¹³ And when they were come in to the city, they went up into an upper room, where Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon the zealot, and Jude the brother of James, usually abode. ¹⁴ These all persevered with one accord in prayer and supplication with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brethren. ¹⁵ And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, (now the number of the persons that were together was about an hundred and twenty,) ¹⁶ and said, Men and brethren, it was necessary that this scripture should be fulfilled, which the holy Ghost spake by the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who was guide to them that apprehended Jesus: ¹⁷ for he was numbered with us, and had obtained a part of this ministry. ¹⁸ (Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling down on his face, burst asunder in the middle, and all his bowels gushed out: ¹⁹ (and it was known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field is called in their own dialect, Aceldama, that is, the field of blood:) ²⁰ for it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let none dwell in it; and again, Let another take his office.) ²¹ Wherefore it is necessary that one of these men, who have been conversant with us all the time that the Lord Jesus came in and out among us, ²² from the baptism of John, till the day that He was taken up from us, should be joined with us as a witness of his resurrection. ²³ And they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. ²⁴ And they prayed and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all, shew us, which of these two Thou hast chosen, ²⁵ to take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas is fallen by his transgression, that he might go to his own place. ²⁶ And they gave out their lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the apostles.

³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made this very Jesus, whom ye crucified, both Lord and Christ.

⁴¹ They therefore that received his word with readiness were baptized: and in that same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. ⁴² And they continued stedfast in the apostles doctrine, and fellowship, and in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

⁵ And on the morrow their rulers, and elders, and scribes were gathered together at Jerusalem: ⁶ and with them Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest. ⁷ And when they had set them in the midst, they asked them, By what power, or in what name have ye done this? ⁸ Then Peter filled with the holy Spirit said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, ⁹ and elders of Israel, if we are this day examined about the benefit done to the impotent man, ¹⁰ by what means he is cured, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, but whom God hath raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole. ¹¹ This is the stone that was set at nought by you builders, which is become the head of the corner. ¹² And there is salvation in no other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we can be saved. ¹³ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were plain and illiterate men, they were amazed; and they knew them again that they had been with Jesus: ¹⁴ but seeing the man that was cured standing with them, they had nothing to say against it. ¹⁵ Therefore they ordered them to withdraw from the council, ¹⁶ and conferred among themselves, saying, What shall we do with these men? for that indeed an evident miracle hath been wrought by them is manifest to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But that it may spread no farther among the people, let us severely charge them to speak no more to any man in this name. ¹⁸ So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach in the name of Jesus. ¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, and said, Whether it be right in the sight of God to obey you rather than God, judge ye: ²⁰ for we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. ²¹ So they threatened them more severely, and let them go; not finding how to punish them, because of the people: for they all glorified God for that which was done. ²² For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miraculous cure was wrought.

³³ And when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to put them to death. ³⁴ But a certain pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, held in much esteem by all the people, stood up in the council, and ordered the apostles to be taken out a little while; and then he said unto them,

⁴⁰ So they took his advice, and having called for the apostles and scourged them, they charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

And the Lord said, I am Jesus the Nazarene whom thou art persecuting: it is hard for thee to kick against the goads. ⁶ And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise and go into the city, and it shall be told thee, what thou must do. ⁷ And the men that went along with him, stood astonished, hearing the voice, but seeing no one.

³ Know ye not, that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ, were baptized into his death? ⁴ Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also should walk in newness of life:

²⁹ for those whom he foreknew, He also predetermined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that He might be as the first-born among many brethren: and whom He before ordained, these He also called;

¹³ Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized into the name of Paul? ¹⁴ I thank God that I baptized none of you, except Crispus and Gaius: ¹⁵ so that no one can say I baptized in my own name. ¹⁶ I also baptized indeed the family of Stephanas: but I know not whether I baptized any other.

² Now I commend you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.

²³ For I received from the Lord, that which I also delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread:

⁴ Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit: and there are different offices, but the same Lord: ⁵ and there are diversities of operations, ⁶ but it is the same God who worketh them all in every one.

³⁷ If any one seem to be a prophet, or acted by the Spirit, let him acknowlege that what I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.

⁶ after that He appeared to above five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain yet alive, but some are fallen asleep.

¹⁵ Yea, and we are found false witnesses concerning God, for we have testified of God, that He raised up Christ; whom He did not raise up, if indeed the dead do not rise.

²⁷ for He hath put all things under his feet. But when He saith that all things are put under Him, it is plain that we are to except Him who put all things under Him.

²⁹ Besides, what shall they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why then are they baptized for the dead?

¹¹ Finally, my brethren, farewel: be reformed, be exhorted, be of one mind, live in peace: and the God of love and peace will be with you.

¹⁴ and the love of God, and the communication of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.

²⁷ For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ:

²⁰ which He exerted in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at his own right hand in heavenly places, ²¹ far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: ²² and hath put all things under his feet, and given Him to be head over all things to the church;

¹⁸ For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.

¹¹ And therefore He gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers; to qualify holy men for the work of the ministry, ¹² to the edifying of the body of Christ: ¹³ till we all arrive in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, at perfect maturity, even to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. ¹⁴ That we may be no longer children fluctuating and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the artful insinuations of men, and their crafty methods of deceiving; ¹⁵ but holding the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him, who is the head, even Christ: ¹⁶ from whom the whole body being fitly joined together and compacted by the aid of every joint, according to the operation proportioned to every part, maketh an increase to the edification of itself in love. ¹⁷ This I say therefore, and charge you in the name of the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk,

²⁰ But ye have not so learned Christ; ²¹ if ye have indeed hearkened to Him, and been instructed in Him, as the truth is in Jesus; to put off the old man, ²² which according to your former conversation was corrupted with deceitful lusts, ²³ and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; ²⁴ and to put on the new man, which according to the image of God is created in righteousness, and true holiness. ²⁵ Wherefore putting away lying, speak ye every one truth to his neighbor; for we are all members of one society. ²⁶ Be angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath; ²⁷ and give not the devil room to ensnare you. ²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more; but rather let him labour, doing some good with his hands, that he may have something to bestow on him that hath need of it. ²⁹ Let no corrupt word come out of your mouth; but what is good to useful edification, that it may benefit the hearers. ³⁰ And grieve not the holy Spirit of God whereby ye are sealed to the day of redemption. ³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and fury, and clamor, and calumny, be put away from you, with all malice: and be kind one to another, ³² tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgiveth you.

⁹ Wherefore God hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name above every name: ¹⁰ that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of celestial beings, as well as of those on earth, and of those under the earth; ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹⁶ for by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are on the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers; all were created by Him, and for Him. ¹⁷ He is before all, and by Him all things subsist. ¹⁸ And He is the head of the body, which is the church: who is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in all things He might have the pre-eminence. ¹⁹ For it pleased the Father, that all fulness should dwell in Him;

²³ if so be ye continue grounded and settled in the faith, and be not moved from the gospel, which ye have heard, and which hath been preached throughout the whole creation, of which I Paul am a minister.

²⁸ whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:

¹⁰ And ye are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

¹ As to what remains therefore, my brethren, we intreat and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received instructions from us, how ye ought to walk and to please God, ye would abound therein more and more. ² For ye know what commandments we gave you from the Lord Jesus.

⁶ Now we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to withdraw yourselves from every brother who walketh disorderly, and not according to the instruction which he received from us. ⁷ For ye know how ye ought to imitate us: for we were not disorderly among you; ⁸ neither did we eat any one's bread for nothing; but with labor and toil, working night and day, that we might not be burthensome to any of you. ⁹ Not that we have not power, but that we might give ourselves as an example to you to imitate us. ¹⁰ For when we were with you, we gave you this charge, if any will not work, neither let him eat. ¹¹ For we hear that there are some among you that walk disorderly, doing no work themselves, but very busy in the affairs of others. ¹² Such we charge and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that they work quietly and earn their own bread.

¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, and received up into glory.

¹ Let as many as are servants under the yoke account their own masters worthy of all honor; that the name of God and his doctrine may not be blasphemed: ² and let not those who have believing masters, despise them, because they are brethren; but serve them more readily, because they are faithful and beloved by God, partakers of his grace. ³ These things teach and exhort. If any one teach otherwise, and adhere not to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the doctrine which is according to godliness; ⁴ he is proud, knowing nothing, but is delirious about questions and strifes of words: from which cometh envy, contention, calumnies, wicked suspicions, perverse debates of men corrupted in mind,

¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evils, which some coveting after have been led astray from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me; that by me the gospel might be fully spread, and that all the nations might hear: and so I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

¹ But do thou speak the things which become sound doctrine: ² that aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in the faith, in love, in patience: ³ the aged women likewise in behaviour as becometh saints, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of that which is good; ⁴ that they may instruct the young women to be temperate, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be prudent, ⁵ chaste, keepers at home, good, submissive to their husbands, that the word of God may not be evil spoken of. ⁶ Exhort the young men in like manner to be temperate: ⁷ in all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works, with uncorruptness in teaching, gravity, sound doctrine that cannot be condemned; ⁸ that he who opposeth it may be ashamed, having no evil to say of you. ⁹ Exhort servants to submit to their masters, to be obsequious in all things, ¹⁰ not answering frowardly, not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

² whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds.

¹⁴ Are they not all ministring spirits, sent forth to attend on those who shall be heirs of salvation?

⁸ For in putting all things under Him, He left nothing which was not to be in subjection to Him: though we do not yet see all things subjected to Him.

¹¹ since He that sanctifieth, and they that are sanctified, are all of one. For which cause He is not ashamed to call them brethren, ¹² saying, "I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the congregation will I praise Thee." ¹³ And again, "I will trust in Him:" and again, "Behold, I, and the children which God hath given me." ¹⁴ Seeing then the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also himself in like manner partook of them; that by death He might destroy him that had the empire of death, that is, the devil: ¹⁵ and deliver those who through fear of death were all their life-time subject to bondage. ¹⁶ For indeed He taketh not hold of angels to save them, but of the seed of Abraham. ¹⁷ Whence it behoved Him to be made in all things like unto his brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful high-priest in the things concerning God, to make atonement for the sins of the people: ¹⁸ for as He himself hath suffered, in being tempted, He is able to succour those that are tempted.

¹² to whom it was revealed, that it was not to themselves, but to us they ministered these things, which are now declared unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you, through the holy Spirit sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

¹⁰ who heretofore were not a people, but are now the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. ¹¹ Dearly beloved, I exhort you as strangers and sojourners here, to abstain from carnal lusts, which war against the soul: ¹² having a good conversation among the Gentiles; that whereas they speak against you as evil-doers, they may glorify God in the day of their visitation, on account of the good works which they behold in you. ¹³ Be subject therefore to every human form of government, for the Lord's sake: whether it be to a king as supreme; ¹⁴ or to governors as persons sent by him for the punishment of evil-doers, and the praise of them that do well. ¹⁵ For so is the will of God, that by your good behaviour ye may silence the ignorance of foolish men: ¹⁶ as free, and yet not using your liberty as a cloke for wickedness, but as the servants of God. ¹⁷ Give due honor to all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. ¹⁸ Ye who are servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and mild, but also to the morose: ¹⁹ for this is an evidence of grace, if any one for conscience towards God endure griefs, suffering unjustly.

²¹ The resemblance of which, even baptism, doth also now save us, (not the outward cleansing of filth from the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience towards God) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, ²² who is gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers being made subject to Him.

⁵ And to this giving all diligence, add to your faith fortitude; ⁶ and to fortitude knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience piety; ⁷ and to piety brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection charity. ⁸ For if these be in you and abound, they will not suffer you to be idle, nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ But he, that hath not these, is blind, or short-sighted, having forgot his baptismal purification from his former sins. ¹⁰ Wherefore, my brethren, be the more diligent thus to make your calling and election sure; for if ye do these things ye shall never fall. ¹¹ For so an entrance shall be administered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

² that ye may be mindful of the words formerly spoken by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: knowing this first,

³ And by this we know that we have known Him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

¹⁹ And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. ²⁰ For, if our heart condemn us, God is still greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence towards God: ²² and whatsoever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in his sight. ²³ And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He hath given us a charge to do. ²⁴ And he, that keepeth his commandments, abideth in Him, and He in him: and hereby we know that He abideth in us, even by the Spirit which He hath given us.

⁷ Yea there are three that bear witness, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood:

⁴ John to the seven churches in Asia---Grace and peace be to you, from Him who is, and who was, and who is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; ⁵ and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the first-born from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, ⁶ and hath made us kings and priests to his God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

⁹ Behold, I will give up those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews, and are not, but speak falsely; behold, I will make them come and bow before thy feet, and they shall know that I have loved thee.

¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round the throne and the animals and the elders: and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands; ¹² saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. ¹³ And I heard every creature in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and on the sea, and all that are in them, saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb, for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four animals said, Amen: and the twenty four elders fell down and worshipped Him that liveth to endless ages.

¹ And I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven invested with a cloud: and there was a rainbow on his head, and his face was as the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of the world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Anointed, and He shall reign for ever and ever.

¹⁹ And the temple of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen in his temple: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

¹⁴ These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and those that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

¹ And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was enlightened with his glory.

¹⁶ And He hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, "King of kings, and Lord of lords."

¹⁴ Happy are they that do his commandments, so shall they have a right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city.

²⁰ He who testifieth these things saith, I surely come quickly. Amen, even so come, Lord Jesus. ²¹ The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
