⁹ Then shall they afflict you, and kill you; and ye shall be hated by all nations for my name:

¹⁷ Beware of evil men; for they will deliver you up to their councils, and will scourge you in their synagogues. ¹⁸ And ye shall be brought before governors and kings on my account, for a testimony to them and to the nations: ¹⁹ but when they take you up, be not sollicitous how, or what ye shall say; for ye shall be taught in that very instant what ye shall speak: for it is not you that speak, ²⁰ but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh by you. ²¹ Brother shall betray his brother to death, and the father his child: and children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death: ²² and ye shall be hated by all men for professing my name; but he that perseveres to the end shall certainly be saved.

⁶ and others seized his servants, and shamefully abused them, and slew them.

³⁴ For behold I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

⁹ But look to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils, and synagogues: and ye shall be scourged, and set before governors and kings on my account, for a testimony against them. ¹⁰ And the gospel must first be published to all nations. ¹¹ But when they shall lead you to deliver you up, be not anxiously careful beforehand what ye shall speak, neither premeditate: but whatever shall be suggested to you at that very time, this speak: for it is not you that speak, but the holy Spirit. ¹² One brother shall betray another to death, and the father the son: and children shall appear against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. ¹³ And ye shall be hated by all men for my sake: but he that endures to the end shall be saved.

⁴⁹ And therefore the wisdom of God hath said, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute:

¹² But before all these things they will lay hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to synagogues, and prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake:

¹⁶ But ye shall be betrayed even by parents, and brethren, and kindred and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death: ¹⁷ and ye will be hated by all men for my sake.

¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ²⁰ Remember what I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have observed my word, they will also observe yours.

² for they will excommunicate you: yea, the time is coming, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he offers an acceptable service to God.

² being vexed that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. ³ And they laid hands on them, and put them into custody till the next day: for it was now evening.

⁴⁰ So they took his advice, and having called for the apostles and scourged them, they charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. ⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer disgrace for his name.

⁵⁹ And they stoned Stephen calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

¹ About that time Herod the king exerted his power to distress some of the church. ² And he cut off James, the brother of John, with the sword. ³ And seeing that it was pleasing to the Jews, he proceeded to apprehend Peter also, (in the days of unleavened bread:) ⁴ whom he seized and put into prison, delivering him to four quaternions of soldiers to guard him; intending, after the passover, to bring him out to the people. ⁵ Peter was therefore kept in custody: but incessant prayer was made to God for him by the church.

³¹ And as they were going to kill him, a report came to the tribune of the cohort, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar: ³² who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down to them. And when they saw the chiliarch and the soldiers, they left off beating Paul.

¹⁹ And I said, Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and scourged in the synagogues them that believed on Thee. ²⁰ And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also stood by and consented to his death, and kept the clothes of them that slew him. ²¹ But he said unto me, Go away; for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.--- ²² And they heard him to this word, and then they exalted their voice, saying, Away with such a fellow from the earth; for it is not fit that he should live.

²² But we would willingly hear from thee what thou thinkest: for as to this sect, we know that it is every where spoken against.

¹⁴ For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God, which are in Judea, in Christ Jesus, in that ye also have suffered the same things from your own countrymen, as they have from the Jews: ¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; who are displeasing to God, and contrary to all men: ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, thus going on to fill up their sins perpetually: but wrath is coming upon them to extremity.

¹⁶ But if any suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God herein.

¹⁰ Fear none of the things which thou wilt suffer: behold the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall suffer affliction ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

¹³ I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and yet thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr; who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.

⁹ And when He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those that had been slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they maintained. ¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on those that dwell upon the earth? ¹¹ And white robes were given to each of them, and it was told them to rest a little while longer, till the number of their fellow-servants, and their brethren that should be killed as they were, should be complete.

¹⁴ And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they who come out of great affliction, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
