⁵² For from this time there shall be five in one family divided, three against two and two against three:

⁴¹ Others said, This is the Messiah. But some said, Shall the Messiah come out of Galilee? ⁴² Hath not the Scripture said, that Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the town whence David was. ⁴³ So there was a division among the people about Him.

¹⁶ Then said some of the pharisees, This man is not of God, because He doth not keep the sabbath: but others said, How can a wicked man do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

¹⁹ There was a division therefore again among the Jews on account of these words. ²⁰ And many of them said, He is a demoniac, and is mad; why do ye hear Him? ²¹ Others said, These are not the words of a demoniac; can a demon open the eyes of the blind?

¹⁸ If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me first. ¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ²⁰ Remember what I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have observed my word, they will also observe yours. ²¹ But all these things will they do unto you, on my account, because they know not Him that sent me.

² for they will excommunicate you: yea, the time is coming, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he offers an acceptable service to God.

⁴³ And when the synagogue was broken up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who addressing themselves to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. ⁴⁴ And on the next sabbath almost all the city came together to hear the word of God. ⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, opposing and reviling him. ⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas boldly said, It was necessary that the word of God should be first spoken to you; but since ye reject it, and judge not yourselves worthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles:

¹ And at Iconium they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great number both of the Jews and of the Greeks believed. ² But the unbelieving Jews stirred up and inflamed the minds of the Gentiles against the brethren. ³ They therefore stayed a considerable time speaking freely of the Lord, who bare witness to the word of his grace, and gave signs and wonders to be done by their hands. ⁴ But the multitude of the city was divided: and some were for the Jews, and some for the apostles:

²⁴ And some regarded the things that were spoken, but others did not believe.
