⁴ For there have crept in some men, who have been of old described as under this condemnation, impious people, that turn the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and deny God the only Lord, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁵ but while men were asleep, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away.

³ and this is life eternal, to know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.

²³ Who, when he was come, and saw the grace of God, rejoiced, and exhorted them all with steadiness of heart to adhere to the Lord.

²⁴ Forasmuch as we have heard, that some who went out from us, have troubled you by their discourses, unsettling your minds, saying, ye must be circumcised, and keep the law; to whom we gave no such commission;

¹ What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? ² God forbid! how shall we, who are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

²¹ Hath not the potter power over the clay, out of the same mass to make one vessel to honor and another to dishonor? ²² And what if God, though resolved to shew his displeasure at last, and to make known his power, yet bore with much long-suffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction?

⁴ and that because of the false brethren clandestinely introduced, who had crept in as spies upon our liberty, which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

¹³ For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only abuse not this liberty for an occasion to indulge the flesh, but by mutual love serve one another.

¹⁴ That we may be no longer children fluctuating and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the artful insinuations of men, and their crafty methods of deceiving;

¹⁵ which He will manifest in his own times, who is the blessed and only potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords, ¹⁶ who alone hath immortality, dwelling in light inaccessible, whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.

⁶ For of these are they who insinuate themselves into families, and captivate weak women, that are laden with sins,

¹⁵ To the pure indeed all things are pure; but to the polluted and unbelieving nothing is pure; even their mind and conscience is polluted. ¹⁶ They profess to know God, but in works deny Him, being abominable and disobedient, and to every thing that is good void of understanding.

¹¹ For the grace of God, that bringeth salvation, hath appeared to all men; ¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness, and worldly desires, we should live soberly, and righteously, and piously in this present world;

¹⁵ looking to it, least there be any one falling short of the grace of God, least any root of bitterness springing up should be troublesome, and by it many be defiled: ¹⁶ least there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one repast gave away his birthright.

⁸ and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence. These stumble at the word through unbelief, unto which also they were appointed.

¹⁶ as free, and yet not using your liberty as a cloke for wickedness, but as the servants of God.

¹⁸ And if the righteous be saved with difficulty, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

¹ But there were indeed false prophets among the people of old, as there will be also among you false teachers, who will privately introduce pernicious heresies, denying even the Lord that bought them, and bringing upon themselves swift destruction, ² And many will follow their pernicious tenets, on whose account the way of truth will be reproached: ³ and by artful speeches they will make sale of you for gain. Whose judgement is long since hastening, and their destruction doth not slumber.

⁵ (but preserved Noah an eighth person, a preacher of righteousness,) bringing a deluge upon the world of the ungodly; ⁶ and reducing the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha to ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those that should afterwards be impious;

¹⁰ especially those who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise authority; who, being audacious and self-willed, are not afraid to speak evil of dignities:

¹⁸ For when they speak swelling words of vanity, they ensnare in the lusts of the flesh, through their lasciviousness, those who had indeed withdrawn from such as deal in error; ¹⁹ promising them liberty, while they themselves are the slaves of corruption: for by whom any one is vanquished, by him he is also enslaved. ²⁰ For if, after they had escaped the pollutions of the world, through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled and vanquished by them, their last state is worse than the first; ²¹ for it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than when they knew it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² But it is happened to them according to the true proverb, The dog is returned to his own vomit, and, The swine that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

⁷ But the heavens and the earth, that now are, by the same Word are kept in store, reserved unto fire on the day of judgement and destruction of ungodly men.

²² Who is a liar, if not he who denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, that denieth the Father as well as the Son;

¹⁵ to pass judgement upon all, and to convict all the ungodly among them of all their wicked works, which they have impiously committed, and of all the hard things which impious sinners have spoken against Him.

⁴ O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: and all the nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy righteous judgements are made manifest."
