¹² These are spots in your love-feasts, feeding themselves without fear, when they are feasting with you: clouds without water, carried about by the winds; trees withered and without fruit, twice dead and rooted up; raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame;

⁶ but when the sun rose, they were burnt up, and withered; because they had no root:

¹³ But He answered and said, Every plantation which my heavenly Father hath not planted shall be rooted up.

¹⁹ and seeing a fig-tree by the way, He went up to it, and finding nothing upon it but leaves, He saith to it, Let no fruit ever hereafter grow out of thee: and the fig-tree withered immediately. ²⁰ And the disciples seeing it were amazed and said, How suddenly is the fig-tree withered!

⁶ but when the sun rose, it was burnt up, and withered because it had no root:

²⁰ And in the morning, as they were passing by it, they saw the fig-tree withered from the roots. ²¹ And Peter remembring the tree, saith unto Him, Master, behold, the fig-tree which thou cursedst, is withered.

⁶ And some fell upon stony ground, and as soon as it sprung up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast plenty of goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night shall thy soul be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?

⁴⁵ But if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and begin to beat the men and maid-servants, and drink, and to be drunken:

¹⁹ Now there was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, living voluptuously and splendidly every day.

³⁴ Take heed to yourselves, least at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and the cares of life, and so that day should come upon you unawares:

⁴ Abide therefore in me, and I will abide in you: for as the branch cannot bear fruit of it self, unless it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. ⁵ I am the vine, ye are the branches; he that abideth in me, and I in him, beareth much fruit: but without me ye can do nothing. ⁶ If any one abide not in me, he is cast out as a useless branch and withereth: and they gather them up, and throw them into the fire, and they are burnt.

²⁰ When therefore ye thus assemble together, this is not eating the Lord's supper: ²¹ for in eating every one takes his own supper first; and one is hungry, and another is glutted. ²² What! have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or do ye despise the church of God, and shame those that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.

¹⁴ That we may be no longer children fluctuating and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the artful insinuations of men, and their crafty methods of deceiving;

¹⁹ whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame; who mind earthly things) For our conversation is in heaven,

⁶ Therefore let us not sleep like others, but let us watch and be sober: ⁷ for they, that sleep, sleep in the night; and drunkards are drunk in the night:

⁶ But she that indulgeth to luxury, is dead while she liveth.

⁴ who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the holy Spirit, ⁵ and of the good word of God, ⁶ and the powers of the gospel-age, and yet fall away, should be renewed again to repentance: since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God, and make an open example of Him. ⁷ For as the earth, which imbibeth the rain that is frequently coming upon it, and produceth herbs fit for those by whom it is cultivated, receiveth a blessing from God: ⁸ but that which bringeth forth thorns and briars, is rejected and near to a curse, (whose end is burning) so are they.

⁵ Ye have lived upon earth delicately and luxuriously; ye fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

¹³ who account it a pleasure to riot even in the day; spots and disgraces; revelling in their frauds, while they partake of your feasts: ¹⁴ having eyes full of adultery, and which cannot be restrained from sin: ensnaring unstable souls, and having a heart practised in rapine; cursed people:

¹⁷ These are wells without water, clouds driven by a storm, for whom thick darkness is reserved for ever. ¹⁸ For when they speak swelling words of vanity, they ensnare in the lusts of the flesh, through their lasciviousness, those who had indeed withdrawn from such as deal in error; ¹⁹ promising them liberty, while they themselves are the slaves of corruption: for by whom any one is vanquished, by him he is also enslaved. ²⁰ For if, after they had escaped the pollutions of the world, through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled and vanquished by them, their last state is worse than the first;
