² for they will excommunicate you: yea, the time is coming, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he offers an acceptable service to God.

²⁸ And be not afraid of them, who can only kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him, who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

⁹ Then shall they afflict you, and kill you; and ye shall be hated by all nations for my name:

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and reject you, and reproach you, and cast out your name as infamous on account of the Son of man.

²¹ Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the time is coming, when ye shall worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.

²² These things said his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed, that if any one confessed Him to be Christ, he should be turned out of the synagogue.

³⁴ They answered, and said unto him, Thou wast wholly born in sins, and dost thou teach us?

⁴² There were however many of the chief rulers that believed on Him; but because of the pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be excommunicated.

³³ And when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to put them to death.

¹³ and they set up false witnesses; who said, This man is continually speaking blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law. ¹⁴ For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and change the rites which Moses delivered to us.

⁵⁶ and he said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.

¹ But Saul still breathing out threatnings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, came to the high priest, and desired of him letters to the synagogues at Damascus, ² that if he should find any of this persuasion, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

³ ---I am indeed a Jew, born at Tarsus in Cilicia, but educated in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, accurately instructed in the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, as ye all are this day. ⁴ And I persecuted those of this persuasion even unto death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

¹⁹ And I said, Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and scourged in the synagogues them that believed on Thee. ²⁰ And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also stood by and consented to his death, and kept the clothes of them that slew him. ²¹ But he said unto me, Go away; for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.--- ²² And they heard him to this word, and then they exalted their voice, saying, Away with such a fellow from the earth; for it is not fit that he should live. ²³ And as they were bawling out, and throwing off their clothes, and casting up dust into the air,

⁹ I indeed once thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus the Nazarene: ¹⁰ which I also did in Jerusalem; and I shut up many of the saints in prison, having received authority for it from the chief priests; and when they were put to death I gave my voice against them. ¹¹ And often punishing them in all the synagogues, I compelled them to blaspheme, and being excessively enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

² For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they have not submitted themselves to the righteousness which is of God.

¹³ We are made as the filth of the world, and the refuse of all things to this day.

¹³ For ye have heard of my conversation formerly in Judaism, that I outragiously persecuted the church of God, and laid it waste: ¹⁴ and I made a proficiency in Judaism above many of the same age with me in my own nation, being excessively zealous for the traditions of my fathers.

⁶ as to zeal persecuting the church, as to the righteousness of the law blameless: but those things,
