¹ These things have I spoken unto you, that ye may not be offended: ² for they will excommunicate you: yea, the time is coming, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he offers an acceptable service to God. ³ And these things will they do unto you; because they have not known the Father, nor me. ⁴ But I have told you these things, that when the time cometh, ye may remember that I told you of them. Though I did not tell you of them at the beginning, because I was with you. ⁵ But now I am going away to Him that sent me, and yet none of you asketh me, Whither art thou going? but because I have said these things to you, ⁶ sorrow hath filled your heart. ⁷ Nevertheless I tell you the truth, it is expedient for you that I should go away; for if I go not away, the comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you. ⁸ And when He comes, He will convince the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement: ⁹ of sin, because they believe not on me; ¹⁰ of righteousness, because I am going to my Father and ye shall see me no more; ¹¹ and of judgement, because the prince of this world is judged. ¹² I have yet many things to say to you, but ye cannot bear them now. ¹³ But when the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He will not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that will He speak, and will shew you things to come. ¹⁴ He shall glorify me, for He shall take of mine and shew it unto you. ¹⁵ All that the Father hath are mine: therefore I said, that He shall take of mine and shew it unto you. ¹⁶ A little while and ye shall not see me: and again a little while and ye shall see me, because I am going to the Father. ¹⁷ Some of his disciples therefore said one to another, What is the meaning of this that He saith to us, A little while and ye shall not see me, and again a little while and ye shall see me, and---because I am going to the Father? ¹⁸ they said therefore, What is this little while that He speaks of? we do not understand what He means. ¹⁹ Now Jesus knew that they wanted to ask Him, and therefore said unto them, Are ye enquiring among each other about this, that I said, A little while and ye shall not see me, and again a little while and ye shall see me? ²⁰ Verily I tell you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. ²¹ A woman when she is in labor, hath sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she is delivered of the child, she thinks no more of the anguish, for joy, that a man is born into the world. ²² And ye therefore now have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy shall no one take from you. ²³ And in that day ye shall ask me nothing: but I assure you, that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, He will give it you. ²⁴ Hitherto ye have asked for nothing in my name: ask and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. ²⁵ These things have I spoken to you in parables: but the time is coming when I shall no more speak to you in parables, but tell you with plainness concerning the Father. ²⁶ In that day ye shall ask in my name; and I do not say that I will ask the Father on your behalf. ²⁷ For the Father himself loveth you; because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came from God: and I indeed came from the Father, ²⁸ and am come into the world: but now I am leaving the world again, and am going to the Father. ²⁹ His disciples said unto Him, Now indeed Thou speakest plainly, and usest no parable. ³⁰ Now we are convinced that Thou knowest all things, and hast no need that any one should ask Thee: by this we believe that Thou camest forth from God. ³¹ Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? ³² Behold, the time is coming, and is even now come, that ye shall be dispersed every one his own way, and shall leave me alone: but I am not alone, for the Father is with me. ³³ These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have trouble: but be of good courage, I have overcome the world.

⁴ Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.

²¹ yet hath he no root in himself, and therefore is but for a short season; and when affliction cometh, or persecution on account of the word, he is as soon disgusted.

³⁴ All these things spake Jesus in parables to the multitudes; and at this time He spake nothing to them without a parable: ³⁵ that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables, I will publish things which have been concealed from the foundation of the world.

⁵⁷ So they were prejudiced against Him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is no where less honoured than in his own country, and in his own family.

⁹ Do ye not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves divided among five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? ¹⁰ nor the seven loaves among four thousand, and how many baskets-full ye took away? ¹¹ How is it then that ye do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread, when I bid you to beware of the leaven of the pharisees and of the sadducees?

²² And all things whatsoever ye ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the Son, they said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and seize on his inheritance:

⁹ Then shall they afflict you, and kill you; and ye shall be hated by all nations for my name: ¹⁰ and then will many take offense, and betray one another, and hate one another: and many false prophets will rise up and deceive many:

²⁵ Lo, I have told you before-hand: and therefore if they say to you,

³¹ Then saith Jesus unto them, Ye will all take offence at me this night; for it is written, "I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered:"

⁶² Now the next day after the preparation, the chief priests and pharisees went together to Pilate, saying, Sir, we remember that this impostor, ⁶³ when He was alive, said, After three days I will rise again: ⁶⁴ order therefore the sepulchre to be secured till the third day, least his disciples should come and steal Him away, and tell the people, He is risen from the dead: and so the last error will be worse than the first. ⁶⁵ But Pilate said to them, Ye have a guard of your own, go and make it as secure as ye will. ⁶⁶ So they went and made the sepulchre safe, sealing the stone, and setting a guard to watch it.

¹⁷ And He said unto them, What subjects are these, which ye are discoursing of to one another as ye walk, and why are ye sorrowful?

²¹ But we hoped that it was He that would have delivered Israel: and besides all this, to-day is the third day since these things were done.

³² but He that cometh from heaven, is above all: and what He hath seen and heard, this He testifieth: and yet scarce any one receiveth his testimony.

⁶² What then, if ye should see the Son of man ascending up, where He was before?

¹⁶ Jesus answered them and said, The doctrine that I teach is not mine, but his that sent me. ¹⁷ If any man desire to do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. ¹⁸ He, that speaketh from himself, seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of Him that sent him is true, and there is no imposture in him.

²⁹ But I know Him, for I am from Him, and He hath sent me.

³³ Therefore Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while I am to be among you, and then I shall go to Him that sent me.

³ Who being the refulgence of his glory and the imprest image of his person, and sustaining all things by his powerful word, having by Himself performed the purging away of our sins, sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high.

⁷ As much as she hath glorified herself and indulged to luxury, so much torment and sorrow give her; because she saith in her heart, I sit as a queen, I am not a widow, and I shall see no sorrow.

And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. ³ And every curse shall cease: and the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and his servants shall serve Him. ⁴ And they shall see his face; and his name shall be on their foreheads. ⁵ And there shall be no night there: and they have no need of a candle, nor of the light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light; and they shall reign for ever and ever. ⁶ And he said unto me, These words are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets hath sent his angel to shew unto his servants what must soon be. ⁷ For behold I come quickly: happy is he that keepeth the words of the prophecy of this book. ⁸ And I John am he who saw and heard these things: and when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel, who shewed me these things. ⁹ And he said unto me, See thou do it not: for I am a fellow-servant of thine, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of those who observe the words of this book: worship God. ¹⁰ And he said unto me, Seal not the words of the prophecy of this book; for the time is near. ¹¹ Let him, that is unjust, be unjust still: and let him, that is filthy, be filthy still: and let him, that is righteous, be righteous still; and let him, that is holy, be holy still. ¹² And behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to recompense every one according to his work. ¹³ I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. ¹⁴ Happy are they that do his commandments, so shall they have a right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city. ¹⁵ But without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and every one that loveth and practiseth falshood. ¹⁶ I Jesus have sent my messenger to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am both the root and the offspring of David, the bright and morning star. ¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, Come; and let him that heareth say, Come. And let him, that thirsteth, Come. And let him, that desireth it, take the water of life freely. ¹⁸ I testify to every one that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any one add to these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: ¹⁹ and if any one take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things that are written in this book. ²⁰ He who testifieth these things saith, I surely come quickly. Amen, even so come, Lord Jesus. ²¹ The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
