¹³ who before was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and an oppressor. But I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief: and the grace of our Lord superabounded,

⁴⁷ And that servant, who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself to do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes;

³⁴ And Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his garments, and cast lots for them.

³⁹ And Jesus said, I am come into this world to execute judgement; that they who see not, may see; and that they who say they see, may be made blind. ⁴⁰ And some of the pharisees who were present, heard these words, and said to Him, Are we blind also? ⁴¹ Jesus replied, If ye were blind, ye would not have sin: but now ye say, We see; your sin therefore remaineth.

¹⁷ And now, brethren, I know that ye did it through ignorance, as did also your rulers:

³ But Saul made havock of the church, entring into the houses, and dragging out men and women, committed them to prison.

¹ But Saul still breathing out threatnings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, came to the high priest, and desired of him letters to the synagogues at Damascus,

⁵ And he said, Who art Thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus the Nazarene whom thou art persecuting: it is hard for thee to kick against the goads.

¹³ And Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many of this man, how much mischief he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:

⁴ And I persecuted those of this persuasion even unto death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

⁹ I indeed once thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus the Nazarene: ¹⁰ which I also did in Jerusalem; and I shut up many of the saints in prison, having received authority for it from the chief priests; and when they were put to death I gave my voice against them. ¹¹ And often punishing them in all the synagogues, I compelled them to blaspheme, and being excessively enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

²⁰ Now the law made some entrance, that the offence might appear to abound; but where sin abounded, grace hath superabounded; that as sin had reigned in death, ²¹ so grace might reign through righteousness, unto eternal life, by Jesus Christ our Lord.

³⁰ For as ye were heretofore disobedient to God, but have now obtained mercy in their disobedience: ³¹ so these also in your mercy have now been disobedient, that they themselves might be the objects of mercy.

²⁵ But concerning single persons I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgement as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.

⁹ not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

¹³ For ye have heard of my conversation formerly in Judaism, that I outragiously persecuted the church of God, and laid it waste:

⁶ as to zeal persecuting the church, as to the righteousness of the law blameless: but those things,

¹⁶ But for this end I obtained mercy, that in me a chief sinner Jesus Christ might display his long-suffering, for an example to those who should afterwards believe on Him to eternal life.

¹⁶ Let us therefore come with freedom to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace for our seasonable help.

⁴ who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the holy Spirit, ⁵ and of the good word of God, ⁶ and the powers of the gospel-age, and yet fall away, should be renewed again to repentance: since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God, and make an open example of Him. ⁷ For as the earth, which imbibeth the rain that is frequently coming upon it, and produceth herbs fit for those by whom it is cultivated, receiveth a blessing from God: ⁸ but that which bringeth forth thorns and briars, is rejected and near to a curse, (whose end is burning) so are they.

²⁶ For if we sin wilfully after having received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins; ²⁷ but a dreadful expectation of judgement, and a fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. ²⁸ If any one that violateth the law of Moses, dieth without mercy under two or three witnesses, ²⁹ of how much greater punishment, think ye, shall he be counted worthy, who hath trampled under foot the Son of God, and accounted the blood of the covenant, by which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and abused the Spirit of grace?

¹⁰ who heretofore were not a people, but are now the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

²¹ for it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than when they knew it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² But it is happened to them according to the true proverb, The dog is returned to his own vomit, and, The swine that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
