¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, or in tongue only, but in deed and in truth.

⁴¹ Then will He say also to those on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: ⁴² for I was famishing, and ye gave me nothing to eat; I was a-thirst, and ye gave me no drink; ⁴³ I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye took no care of me. ⁴⁴ Then will they also answer Him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee famishing, or a-thirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not relieve thee? ⁴⁵ Then will He reply to them, saying, Verily I tell you, inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the lest of these, ye did it not to me.

⁹ Let love be unfeigned. Abhor that which is evil, cleave to that which is good;

⁴ Charity beareth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity is not insolent, is not puffed up, ⁵ doth not behave indecently, is not selfish, is not easily provoked, ⁶ suspecteth no evil, rejoiceth not at injustice, but rejoiceth in the truth: ⁷ covereth all faults, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

¹³ For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only abuse not this liberty for an occasion to indulge the flesh, but by mutual love serve one another.

¹ Brethren, if a man be overtaken in any fault, do ye, who are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, least thou also shouldst be tempted. ² Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

¹ I therefore, a prisoner for the sake of the Lord, exhort you to walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all humility and meekness; ² and with long-suffering forbear one another in love, ³ endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace: for there is but one body and one Spirit,

¹⁵ but holding the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him, who is the head, even Christ:

³ Incessantly remembering your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father:

¹⁵ If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food; ¹⁶ and one of you say to them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and be ye filled: but ye give them not the necessaries of life, what profit is it to them?

²² Having therefore purified your souls by obedience to the truth, through the Spirit, to brotherly love unfeigned, love one another with a pure heart fervently:

¹ My little children, I write these things unto you, that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

¹ The elder unto the excellent Lady, and her children, whom I love in truth: and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; ² for the sake of the truth which dwelleth in us, and will be with us for ever: ³ grace, mercy, and peace be with you from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. ⁴ I rejoiced greatly that I found among thy children such as walked in truth, as we received commandment from the Father. ⁵ And now I beseech thee, Lady, not as writing to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we may love one another. ⁶ And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it. ⁷ For many deceivers are come out into the world, who disown that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. Such a one is a deceiver and an antichrist. ⁸ Look to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which ye have wrought, but that ye may receive a full reward. ⁹ Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God: but he, that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, hath both the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ Now if any one come unto you, and bringeth not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, nor wish him success: for he, ¹¹ that biddeth him welcome, is partaker of his evil deeds. ¹² Having many things to write unto you, I would not with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and speak mouth to mouth, that our joy may be full. ¹³ The children of thy elect sister salute thee. Amen.

¹ The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth. ² Beloved, I earnestly pray, that thou mayst prosper and be in health, as thy soul prospereth. ³ For I greatly rejoiced, when the brethren came, and bore testimony to thy truth, even as thou walkest in truth. ⁴ And I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth. ⁵ Beloved, thou actest faithfully in whatsoever service thou dost to the brethren, and to strangers too; ⁶ who have borne witness to thy love before the church: whom thou wilt do well in forwarding, as is worthy of God. ⁷ For they went forth for his name's sake, taking nothing of the gentiles. ⁸ We ought therefore to receive such, that we may become fellow-laborers in the truth. ⁹ I wrote to the church: but Diotrephes, who affects the pre-eminence among them, doth not receive us. ¹⁰ Therefore when I come, I will remember his deeds, prating against us with wicked words: and not content with these, he neither receiveth the brethren himself, nor suffers those that would; and casteth them out of the church. ¹¹ Beloved, do not thou follow that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doth good is of God: but he, that doth evil, hath not seen God. ¹² A good testimony is borne to Demetrius by all men, and by the truth itself: yea, and we also bear him like witness, and ye know that our testimony is true. ¹³ I had many things to write: but I would not write to thee with pen and ink; ¹⁴ for I hope to see thee soon, and we shall speak mouth to mouth. ⁽¹⁵⁾ Peace be to thee.
