¹² "All things, therefore, whatsoever ye wish that men should do to you, so do ye also to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

³⁹ A second like it is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. ⁴⁰ On these two commandments hangs the whole law, and the prophets."

²⁹ Jesus answered, "The first is, 'Hear, O Israel; the Lord is our God, the Lord is One; ³⁰ and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your mind and with all your strength.' ³¹ A second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." ³² The scribe said to Him, "Well, Teacher, Thou didst say truly that He is One, and there is not another beside Him; ³³ and to love Him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as himself, is much more than all the whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices." ³⁴ And Jesus, seeing that he answered discreetly, said to him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God." And no one any more dared to question Him.

³¹ "And as ye wish that men should do to you, do ye also to them in like manner.

⁸ Owe no one anything, but to love one another; for he that loves another has fulfilled the law. ⁹ For this, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not kill," "You shall not steal," "You shall not covet;" and, if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." ¹⁰ Love works no ill to one's neighbor: therefore, love is a fulfillment of the law.

¹³ For ye were called to freedom, brethren; only use not your freedom for an occasion to the flesh, but through love serve one another; ¹⁴ for the whole law has been fulfilled in one word, in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

⁵ But the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and of faith unfeigned;

¹⁰ For whosoever keeps the whole law, but stumbles in one point, has become guilty of all. ¹¹ For He Who said, "Do not commit adultery," said also, "Do not kill." Now, if you do not commit adultery, but kill, you have become a transgressor of the law. ¹² So speak, and so do, as those who are about to be judged by a law of liberty. ¹³ For the judgment is without mercy to him who showed no mercy: mercy exults over judgment.
