³³ as the Scripture says: "See, I put on Zion a stone for causing people to stumble, a rock to trip them on, but no one who puts his faith in it will ever be put to shame."

⁴² Then Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures: 'That stone which the builders threw away has become the cornerstone; this is the work of the Lord and seems wonderful to us!'

⁴⁴ Who ever falls upon that stone will be broken to pieces, but whomever it falls upon will be crushed to powder."

⁵ and hope never disappoints us; for through the Holy Spirit that has been given us, God's love has flooded our hearts.

They keep on stumbling over the message, because they are disobedient to it, and this is their appointed doom.

²⁸ And now, dear children, I repeat, you must continue to live in union with Him, so that if He is unveiled, we may have unshaken confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame when He comes.
