1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of the Emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was governor of Galilee, and his brother Philip was governor of the territory of Iturea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was governor of Abilene,
2 in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the message of God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the desert.
3 And he went all over the Jordan valley, preaching a baptism conditioned on repentance to obtain the forgiveness of sins,
4 as it is written in the sermon-book of the prophet Isaiah: "Here is a voice of one shouting in the desert, 'Get the road ready for the Lord, make the paths straight for Him.
5 Every ravine must be filled up, and every mountain and hill leveled down; the crooked places must become straight roads, and the rough roads must be made smooth,
6 And all mankind must see the salvation of God.'"
7 So he used to say to the crowds that continued to come out there to be baptized by him: "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to escape from the wrath that is coming?
8 Produce, then, fruit that is consistent with the repentance that you profess, and do not even begin to say within yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our forefather,' for I tell you, God can raise up descendants for Abraham even out of these stones.
9 Now the axe is already lying at the roots of the trees. Every tree, then, that fails to bear good fruit is to be cut down and thrown into the fire."
10 So the crowds were asking him this question, "What then ought we to do?"
11 He answered them, "The man who has two shirts must share with him who has none, and the man who has food must do the same."
12 Then even the tax-collectors came to be baptized, and said to him, "Teacher, what ought we to do?"
13 So he said to them, "Stop collecting any more than is prescribed for you."
14 Then some soldiers too were asking him, "What ought we too to do?" So he said to them, "Never extort money from anyone, never make a false accusation, and always be satisfied with your wages."
15 Now while the people were on tiptoe in their expectations, and they were all arguing in their hearts about John whether he was himself the Christ,
16 John expressly answered them all, "I am baptizing you in water only, but there is coming the One who is stronger than I am, whose shoestrings I am not fit to untie. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire;
17 His winnowing-fork is in His hand, and He will clean out His threshing-floor, and store His wheat in His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with fire inextinguishable."
18 So with many and varied exhortations John continued to proclaim the good news to the people.
19 But Herod the governor, because he was repeatedly reproved by him for Herodias his brother's wife, and for all the wicked deeds that Herod had done,
20 added this on top of it all, that he put John in prison.
21 Now when all the people had been baptized, and when Jesus had been baptized and was still praying, heaven opened
22 and the Holy Spirit came down upon Him in bodily form as a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are my Son, my Beloved! In you I am delighted!"
23 Now Jesus Himself was about thirty years old when He began His work; He was the son, as was supposed, of Joseph, the son of Eli,

30 the son of Symeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,
31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,
32 the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Sala, the son of Nahshon,
33 the son of Admin, the son of Arni, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,
34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
35 the son of Serug, the son of Ragau, the son of Peleg, the son of Heber, the son of Shelah,
36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Maleleel, the son of Cainan,

John 1:33-36

John 3:28-29
28 You can bear testimony to me yourselves that I said, 'I am not the Christ, but I have been sent as His announcer.'
29 It is the bridegroom who has the bride, but the bridegroom's friend, who stands outside and listens to him, is very happy to hear the bridegroom's voice. So this happiness of mine is running over.
John 3:29-29
29 It is the bridegroom who has the bride, but the bridegroom's friend, who stands outside and listens to him, is very happy to hear the bridegroom's voice. So this happiness of mine is running over.
30 He must grow greater and greater, but I less and less."
31 He who comes from above is far above all others. He who springs from earth belongs to the earth and speaks of earth. He who comes from heaven is far above all others.
32 He continues to bear testimony to what He has actually seen and heard, and yet no one accepts His testimony.
33 Whoever does accept His testimony has certified with a seal that God is true.
34 For He whom God has sent continues to speak the words of God, for God continues to give Him the Spirit without measure.
35 The Father loves His Son and has put everything in His hands.
36 Whoever trusts in the Son possesses eternal life, but whoever refuses to trust in the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God continues to remain on him.
John 6:42
42 And they said, "Is He not Jesus, Joseph's son, whose father and mother we know? So how can He say, 'I have come down out of heaven'?"
John 7:38
38 Whoever continues to believe in me will have, as the Scripture says, rivers of living water continuously flowing from within him."
John 8:33
33 They answered Him, "We are Abraham's descendants and we never have been anybody's slaves. How can you say to us, 'You will be set free'?"
John 8:39
39 They answered Him, "Our father is Abraham." Jesus said to them, "If you are Abraham's children, you must be practicing what Abraham did.
John 8:44
44 You sprang from the devil, your real father, and you want to practice your father's wishes. He was a murderer from the very start, and he does not stand by the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks out of his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
John 10:24
24 So the Jews surrounded Him and kept asking Him, "How much longer are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are really the Christ, tell us so plainly."
John 11:49-51
49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing about this;
50 you do not take into account that it is for your own welfare that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should be destroyed."
51 Now he did not say this on his own authority, but because he was high priest that year he uttered this prophecy from God, that Jesus was to die for the nation,

27 so that they might search for God, possibly they might grope for Him, and find Him, though He is really not far from any of us.
28 For it is through union with Him that we live and move and exist, as some of your own poets have said, "'For we are His offspring too.'
29 Since then we are God's offspring, we ought not to suppose that His nature is like gold or silver or stone or anything carved by man's art and thought.

Romans 4:16
16 So it is conditioned on faith, that it might be in accordance with God's unmerited favor, so that the promise might be in force for all the descendants of Abraham, not only for those who belong to the law party but also for those who belong to the faith group of Abraham. He is the father of us all,

9 For the commandments, "You must not commit adultery; you must not murder; you must not steal; you must not have an evil desire," and any other commandment if there is any, are summed up in this command, "You must love your neighbor as you do yourself."
10 Love never does a wrong to one's neighbor; so love is the perfect satisfaction of the law.

1 Corinthians 15:45
45 This is the way the Scripture puts it too, "The first man Adam became a living creature." The last Adam has become a life-giving Spirit.
1 Corinthians 15:47
47 The first man was made of the dust of the earth; the second Man is from heaven.
2 Corinthians 7:10-11
10 For the sorrow that comes in accordance with the will of God results in repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regrets, but the sorrow the world produces results in death.
11 For see what this very sorrow, suffered in accordance with the will of God, has done for you! How earnest it has made you, how concerned to clear yourselves, how indignant, how alarmed, how much it made you long to see me, how loyal to me, how determined to punish the offender! At every point you have cleared yourselves in the matter.
2 Corinthians 8:3-14
3 For they have given, I can testify, to the utmost of their ability, and even beyond their ability. Of their own accord,
4 with earnest entreaty, they kept on begging me for the favor of sharing in this service that is being rendered to God's people.
5 They did not do as I expected but even more; they first by God's will gave themselves to the Lord, and then to me;
6 so that I insisted that Titus, as he had formerly commenced it, should bring to completion this gracious contribution among you too.
7 Yes, just as you are growing rich in everything else, in faith, expression, knowledge, perfect enthusiasm, and the love inspired in you by us, you must see to it that you grow rich in this gracious contribution too.
8 I am not saying this in the spirit of a command, but I am simply trying to test the genuineness of your love by the enthusiasm of others.
9 For by experience you know the unmerited favor shown by our Lord Jesus Christ; that although He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, in order that by His poverty you might become rich.
10 Now I will give you my opinion on this matter. For this is for your interest, because you were not only the first to do anything about it, but the first to want to do so; you started it a year ago.
11 Now finish doing it too, so that your readiness to finish it may be just like your readiness to start it, in accordance with what you have.
12 If a man is ready and willing to give, his gift is acceptable in accordance with what he has, not with what he does not have.
13 For I do not want it to be a relief for others and a burden on you,
14 but through an equalizing of matters in the present crisis I do want your abundance to relieve their need, that some day their abundance may relieve your need, so that equality may exist --

Galatians 5:22-24

1 Thessalonians 2:15-16
15 who killed the Lord Jesus and persecuted the prophets and us; and who continue to displease God and show themselves in opposition to all mankind,
16 by trying to keep us from speaking to the heathen, so that they may be saved, so as always to fill to the brim the cup of their sins. But at last God's wrath has come upon them.
1 Timothy 6:8-10
8 If we have food and clothes we will be satisfied.
9 But men who keep planning to get rich fall into temptations and snares and many foolish, hurtful desires which plunge people into destruction and ruin.
10 For the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil, and some men in reaching after riches have wandered from the faith and pierced their hearts with many a pang.

Hebrews 6:7-8
7 For a piece of ground that drinks in the rains so frequently falling on it, and continues yielding vegetation useful to those for whose sakes it is cultivated, receives from God His blessings.
8 But if it continues to yield thorns and thistles, it is considered worthless and in danger of being cursed, and its final fate is burning.
Hebrews 6:10
10 For God is not so unjust as to forget the work you have done and the love you have shown His name in the service you have rendered for your fellow-Christians, and still are doing.
Hebrews 6:18

27 A religious worship that is pure and stainless in the sight of God the Father is this: To look after orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep one's own self unstained by the world.
James 2:15-26
15 If some brother or sister is thinly clad and has no food for the day,
16 and one of you says to him, "Blessings on you, keep warm, eat until you have aplenty," without giving him the things that are needed for the body, what good does it do?
17 So faith by itself, if it has no deeds to back it up, is dead.
18 But someone may say, "You have faith, and I have good deeds. Show me your faith without any good deeds, but I will show you mine by my good deeds."
19 Do you believe in one God? Very well; the demons, too, believe that, and shudder.
20 But, O senseless man, are you willing to learn that faith without good deeds is worthless?
21 Was not our forefather Abraham shown to be upright by his good deeds, namely, by offering Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 You see that faith cooperated with his good deeds, and by his good deeds faith was made complete;
23 and so the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham put his faith in God, and it was credited to him for uprightness, and he was called God's friend."
24 You see that a man is shown to be upright by his good deeds, and not merely by his faith.
25 Was not even Rahab the prostitute shown to be upright by her good deeds, namely, by entertaining the scouts and sending them off by a different road?
26 Just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without good deeds is dead.
