John 20:1-10

1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning while it was still dark, Mary of Magdala went to the tomb, and she saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. 2 So she ran away and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus tenderly loved, and said to them, "They have taken away the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have put Him." 3 So Peter and the other disciple left the city and started for the tomb. 4 And they both kept running, but the other disciple outran Peter and got to the tomb first. 5 And he stooped down and peered in and saw the bandages lying on the ground, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came running up behind him, and he went inside, and saw the bandages lying on the ground, 7 but the handkerchief which had been over His face was not lying with the bandages, but was folded up by itself in another place. 8 So then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, went inside and saw, and he came to believe it. 9 For they had not previously understood the Scripture which said that He must rise from the dead. 10 So the disciples went home again.
