⁴ So some of them were convinced, and they joined Paul and Silas; also quite a number of devout Greeks and not a few women of the first rank.

³⁵ The Jews then said to one another, "Where is He about to go that we shall not find Him? He is not going to our people scattered among the Greeks, and going to teach the Greeks, is He?

⁴¹ So they accepted his message and were baptized, and about three thousand persons united with them on that day. ⁴² And they devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to fellowship with one another, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

⁴⁴ And all the believers lived together and held all they had as common goods to be shared by one another.

²³ When they were turned loose, the apostles went back to their companions and told them what the high priests and elders had said to them.

¹² Many signs and wonders were continuously performed by the apostles among the people. And by common consent they all used to meet in Solomon's portico. ¹³ Not one of those on the outside dared to associate with them, although the people continued to hold them in high regard, ¹⁴ but still a vast number of people, both men and women, who believed in the Lord, continued to join them,

⁴³ and after the congregation had broken up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism allied themselves with Paul and Barnabas, and they kept talking to them and urging them to continue to rely on the unmerited favor of God.

⁵⁰ But the Jews stirred up the devout women of high rank and the men of first rank in town, and so started a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.

¹ At Iconium too they went to the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks came to believe.

⁴ But the masses of the town were divided; some sided with the Jews and some with the apostles.

²² Then the apostles and elders in cooperation with the whole church passed a resolution to select and send some men of their number with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch. These were Judas, who was called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers.

²⁷ So we send Judas and Silas to you, to bring you the same message by word of mouth.

³² Now Judas and Silas, as they were prophets themselves, in a lengthy talk encouraged and strengthened the brothers.

⁴⁰ But Paul selected Silas and set out, after the brothers had committed him to the favor of the Lord.

³ Paul wanted this man to join him in his journey; so on account of the Jews in that district he took him and had him circumcised, for everybody knew that his father was a Greek.

¹² Many of them came to believe, and not a few distinguished Greek women and men.

¹⁷ So he kept up his discussions in the synagogue with the Jews and the pagans who were worshiping there, and also day by day in the public square with any who chanced to be there.

³⁴ Some men, however, joined him and came to believe, among them Dionysius, a member of the city council; also a woman named Damaris, and some others.

⁴ Every sabbath it was Paul's habit to preach in the synagogue and to persuade both Jews and Greeks.

¹⁰ This went on for two years, so that everybody living in the province of Asia, Greeks as well as Jews, heard the Lord's message.

²⁸ as they kept shouting, "Men of Israel, help! help! This is the man who teaches everybody everywhere against our people and the law and this place; yea, more than that, he has actually brought Greeks into the temple and desecrated this sacred place."

²⁴ Some of them were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe.

¹⁷ Therefore: "'Come out of company with them, and separate from them,' the Lord has said, 'And stop touching what is unclean; then I will welcome you, ¹⁸ I will be a Father to you, and you will be sons and daughters of mine,' The Lord Almighty said."

⁵ They did not do as I expected but even more; they first by God's will gave themselves to the Lord, and then to me;
