¹⁴ Among them was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple goods from the town of Thyatira, and she stayed to listen to us. She was already a worshiper of God, and the Lord so moved upon her heart that she accepted the message spoken by Paul.

⁴⁵ Then He opened their minds so that they might continue to understand the Scriptures,

⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him to me; then I myself will raise him to life on the last day. ⁴⁵ In the prophets it is written, 'And all men will be taught by God.' Everyone who ever listens to the Father and learns from Him will come to me.

²⁰ There were some Greeks among those who were coming up to worship at the feast,

²⁷ So he got up and went. Now there was an Ethiopian official, a member of the court of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, her chief treasurer, who had come to Jerusalem to worship,

² a religious man, too, who revered God with all his household, who was always liberal in his many deeds of charity to the people, and who had the habit of praying to God.

²¹ And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a large number of people believed and turned to the Lord.

⁷ So he moved into the house of a pagan named Titus Justus, who worshiped the true God; his house was next to the synagogue.

¹⁶ So one's destiny does not depend on his own willing or strenuous actions but on God's having mercy on him.

⁶ I did the planting, Apollos did the watering, but it was God who kept the plants growing. ⁷ So neither the planter nor the waterer counts for much, but God is everything in keeping the plants growing.

¹⁴ Besides, their minds were made dull; for to this day that same veil remains unlifted, whenever they read the Old Covenant; because it is only through union with Christ that it is removed. ¹⁵ Indeed, to this very day, whenever Moses is read, a veil hangs over their hearts, ¹⁶ but whenever anybody turns to the Lord, the veil is removed,

⁴ In their case, the god of this world has blinded the eyes of the unbelievers, to keep the glorious light of the good news of Christ, who is the likeness of God, from dawning upon them. ⁵ For I am not proclaiming myself but Christ Jesus as Lord, and myself a slave of yours for Jesus' sake. ⁶ For God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in my heart, to give me the light of the knowledge of God's glory, reflected on the face of Christ.

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may grant you the Spirit to give wisdom and revelation which come through a growing knowledge of Him, ¹⁸ by having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, so that you may know what the hope is to which He calls you, how glorious rich God's portion in His people is,

¹³ for it is God Himself who is at work in you to help you desire it as well as do it.

¹⁶ You must avoid being misled, my dearly loved brothers. ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect boon is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, in whom there is no variation or changing shadow.

¹¹ "Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea."

¹⁸ "To the messenger of the church in Thyatira write: 'The Son of God, whose eyes are like coals of fire, and whose feet are like bronze refined to white heat, speaks as follows: ¹⁹ "I know what you are doing, I know your love and faithfulness, your service and patient endurance, and I know that you are now working harder than you did at first. ²⁰ But I hold it against you that you are tolerating that Jezebel of a woman who claims to be a prophetess, and by her teaching is misleading my slaves to practice immorality and to eat meat that has been sacrificed to idols. ²¹ I have given her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her immorality. ²² See! I am going to lay her on a bed of sickness, and bring down to great and pressing sorrow those who practice immorality with her, unless they repent of their practices; ²³ and I will surely strike her children dead. So all the churches will know that I am He who searches men's inmost hearts, and that I will repay each of you for exactly what you have done. ²⁴ But to the rest of you at Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching and have not learned the 'deep things' of Satan -- as they speak of them -- to you I say, I have no extra burden to lay on you,

⁷ "To the messenger of the church in Philadelphia write: 'The Holy and True One, who carries the keys of David, who opens and no one can shut, who shuts and no one can open, speaks as follows:

²⁰ I am now standing at the door and knocking. If anyone listens to my voice and opens the door, I will be his guest and feast with him, and he with me.
