² So, as a dire disturbance and a serious discussion had been created between Paul and Barnabas and them, they decided that Paul and Barnabas and some others from their number should go up to Jerusalem to confer with the apostles and elders about this question.

⁹ So there was a vociferous yelling until some of the scribes, belonging to the party of the Pharisees, got up and fiercely contended, "We find nothing wrong with this man. Suppose a spirit or angel has really spoken to him!"

¹ Now I appeal to you in person, by the gentleness and fairness of Christ, I, Paul, who am so "condescending when face to face with you, but so courageous toward you when far away!"

⁴ for the weapons used in my warfare are not mere human ones, but through my God are mighty for demolishing fortresses.

²² But the product of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

² with perfect humility and gentleness, with patience, lovingly bearing with one another,

³ Stop acting from motives of selfish strife or petty ambition, but in humility practice treating one another as your superiors.

¹⁴ Practice doing everything without grumbling and disputing,

¹³ forbearing one another and freely forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; just as the Lord has freely forgiven you, so must you also do.

⁷ Instead we were little children among you; we were like a mother nursing her children.

² So the pastor must be a man above reproach, must have only one wife, must be temperate, sensible, well-behaved, hospitable, skillful in teaching; ³ not addicted to strong drink, not pugnacious, gentle and not contentious, not avaricious,

¹¹ But you, as a man of God, must be fleeing always from these things; you must constantly strive for uprightness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.

¹ Paul, a slave of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to stimulate faith in God's chosen people and to lead them on to a full knowledge of religious truth,

⁷ For as God's trustee a pastor must be above reproach, not stubborn or quick-tempered or addicted to strong drink or pugnacious or addicted to dishonest gain,

⁹ and a man who continues to cling to the trustworthy message as he was taught it, so that he may be competent to encourage others with wholesome teaching and to convict those who oppose him.

² to stop abusing anyone, to be peaceable, fair-minded, showing perfect gentleness to everybody.

¹ James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, sends greetings to the twelve tribes that are scattered over the world.

¹⁹ You must understand this, my dearly loved brothers. Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to get angry; ²⁰ for a man's anger does not produce the uprightness that God requires.
