⁷ Dearly beloved, let us practice loving one another, because love originates with God, and everyone who practices loving is a child of God and knows God by experience.

³ Now eternal life means knowing you as the only true God and knowing Jesus your messenger as Christ.

⁶ For God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in my heart, to give me the light of the knowledge of God's glory, reflected on the face of Christ.

⁹ but now, since you have come to know God, or rather have come to be known by Him, how can you turn back to your own crude notions, so weak and worthless, and wish to become slaves to them again?

²² But the product of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

⁹ Now as to brotherly love, you have no need of anyone's writing you, for you have yourselves been taught by God to love one another, ¹⁰ as you are practicing it toward all the brothers all over Macedonia. We beg you, brothers, to continue to live better and better;

⁷ For the Spirit that God has given us does not impart timidity but power and love and self-control.

²² Since you have purified your souls by obeying the truth, in sincere love for the brotherhood you must love one another heartily and fervently,

¹⁰ Whoever continues to love his brother is always in the light, and he is no hindrance to others.

²⁹ If you know that He is upright, you must know that everyone who practices uprightness is born of Him.

¹⁰ This is the way to distinguish God's children from the devil's children. No one who fails to do right is God's child, and no one who fails to love his brother. ¹¹ it is so because the message that you have heard from the beginning is this: We should love one another. ¹² We must not be like Cain who belonged to the evil one and butchered his brother. And why did he butcher him? Because his own actions were wicked and his brother's upright. ¹³ You must not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love our brothers. Whoever does not continue to love continues still in death. ¹⁵ Anyone who keeps on hating his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer can have eternal life remaining in him. ¹⁶ We know what love is from the fact that He laid down His life for us; and so we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. ¹⁷ But if anyone has the world's means of supporting life and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how can love to God remain in him? ¹⁸ Dear children, let us stop loving with words or lips alone, but let us love with actions and in truth. ¹⁹ In this way we shall know by experience that we are on the side of the truth, and satisfy our consciences in God's sight, ²⁰ because if our consciences do condemn us, God is greater than our consciences, and He knows everything. ²¹ Dearly beloved, if our consciences do not condemn us, we come with perfect confidence to God, ²² and we obtain from Him whatever we ask for, because we practice obedience to His commands and do what pleases Him. ²³ His command is this, that we should believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and practice loving one another, just as He commanded us to do.

¹² No one has ever seen God; yet if we practice loving one another, God remains in union with us, and our love for Him attains perfection in our hearts,

²⁰ If anyone says, "I love God," and yet habitually hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
