¹ About spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be without information. ² You know that when you were heathen you were in the habit of going off, wherever you might be led, after idols that could not speak. ³ So I want to inform you that no one speaking under the power of the Spirit of God can say, "Jesus is accursed!" and no one except one under the power of the Holy Spirit can really say, "Jesus is Lord!" ⁴ There are varieties of gifts, but the Spirit is the same in all; ⁵ there are varieties of service, but the Lord to be served is the same; ⁶ there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who does all things by putting energy in us all. ⁷ To each of us is given a special spiritual illumination for the common good. ⁸ To one, wise speech is given by the Spirit; to another, by the same Spirit, intelligent speech is given; ⁹ to another, through union with the same Spirit, faith; to another, by one and the same Spirit, power to cure the sick; ¹⁰ to another, power for working wonders; to another, prophetic insight; to another, the power to discriminate between the true Spirit and false spirits; to another, various ecstatic utterances; and to another, the power to explain them. ¹¹ But the one and same Spirit accomplishes all these achievements, and apportions power to each of us as He chooses. ¹² For just as the human body is one and yet has many parts, and all the parts of the body, many as they are, constitute but one body, so it is with Christ. ¹³ For by one Spirit all of us, Jews or Greeks, slaves or freemen, have been baptized into one body, and were all imbued with one Spirit. ¹⁴ For the body does not consist of one part but of many. ¹⁵ If the foot says, "Since I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body," that does not make it any less a part of the body. ¹⁶ If the ear says, "Since I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body," that does not make it any less a part of the body. ¹⁷ If all the body were an eye, how could we hear? If all the body were an ear, how could we smell? ¹⁸ But as it now is, God has placed the parts, every one of them, in the body just as He wanted them to be. ¹⁹ If they were all one part, how could it be a body? ²⁰ But as it now is, there are many parts, but one body. ²¹ The eye cannot say to the hand, "I do not need you," or the hand to the feet, "I do not need you." ²² No, on the contrary, even those parts of the body that seem to be most delicate are indispensable, ²³ and the parts of it we deem devoid of honor we dress with special honor, and our ill-shaped parts receive more careful attention, ²⁴ while our well-shaped parts do not want for anything. Yes, God has perfectly adjusted the body, giving great honor to its apparently inferior parts, ²⁵ so that there is no disharmony in the body, but all the parts have a common care for one another. ²⁶ If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it. If one part receives an honor, all the parts can share its joy. ²⁷ So you are Christ's body, and individually parts of it. ²⁸ And God has placed people in the church, first as apostles, second as prophets, third as teachers, then wonder-workers; then people with power to cure the sick, helpers, managers, ecstatic speakers. ²⁹ Not all are apostles, are they? Not all are prophets, are they? Not all are teachers, are they? Not all are wonder-workers, are they? ³⁰ Not all are people with power to cure the sick, are they? Not all are ecstatic speakers, are they? Not all can explain ecstatic speaking, can they? ³¹ But you must earnestly continue to cultivate your higher spiritual gifts. And yet I will show you a way that is better by far:

¹¹ I am baptizing you in water to picture your repentance. But He that is coming after me is stronger than I am, and I am not fit to carry His shoes. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire;

⁶ "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for being and doing right, for they will be completely satisfied.

⁸ Keep on curing the sick, raising the dead, healing lepers, and driving out demons. You received and gave no pay; you must give and take none.

⁴³ He asked them, "How then does David, under the guidance of the Spirit, call Him Lord, when he says:

¹⁰ And you must not be called 'leaders,' for you have only one Leader, and that is Christ.

¹⁴ "For it is just like a man who was going on a long journey from his homeland, who called to him his slaves and turned his property over to them. ¹⁵ He gave one five thousand dollars, another two thousand, another one thousand, to each in accordance with his ability. Then he started on his long journey. ¹⁶ The man who had received the five thousand dollars at once went out and invested it, and made five thousand more. ¹⁷ In the same way the man who had received the two thousand made two thousand more. ¹⁸ But the man who had received the one thousand went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money. ¹⁹ After a long time the master of those slaves came back and settled accounts with them. ²⁰ The man who had received the five thousand dollars came up and brought him five thousand more, saying, 'You turned over to me five thousand dollars; here are five thousand more I made.' ²¹ His master said to him 'Well done, my good and faithful slave, you have been faithful in the use of a small amount; I will put you in charge of a larger one. Come, share your master's joy!' ²² Then the man who had received the two thousand came up and said, 'Master, you turned over to me two thousand dollars; here are two thousand more I made.' ²³ His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful slave, you have been faithful in the use of a small amount; I will put you in charge of a larger one. Come, share your master's joy!' ²⁴ Then the man who had received the one thousand came up and said, 'Master, I knew you were a hard man, who reaped where you had not sown, who gathered where you had not threshed. ²⁵ So I was afraid, and went off and buried your thousand dollars in the ground. Here is your money.' ²⁶ His master answered him, 'You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reaped where I had not sown and gathered where I had not threshed. ²⁷ So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, so that when I came back I could have collected my principal with interest. ²⁸ So take the thousand dollars away from him and give it to him who has ten thousand. ²⁹ For the man who has will have more given to him, even till it overflows, but from the man who has nothing even what he has will be taken away. ³⁰ And throw the good-for-nothing slave out into the darkness on the outside, where he will weep and grind his teeth.'

³⁹ Jesus said, "Do not try to stop him, for there is no one who will use my name to do a mighty deed, and then be able soon to abuse me.

²² Then Jesus answered them, "Have faith in God! ²³ I solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Get up and throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt at all in his heart, but has faith that what he says will take place, shall have it.

¹⁷ And the following signs will attend those who believe: By using my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in foreign languages; ¹⁸ they will take snakes in their hands; even if they drink anything poisonous, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well."

²⁰ Then they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord kept on working with them and confirming their message by the signs that attended it.

¹⁶ John expressly answered them all, "I am baptizing you in water only, but there is coming the One who is stronger than I am, whose shoestrings I am not fit to untie. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire;

² and then He sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to cure the sick.

⁵ Then the apostles said to the Lord, "Give us more faith." ⁶ Then the Lord said to them, "If you had faith that grows like a mustard seed, you might have been saying to this mulberry tree, 'Pull yourself up by the roots and plant yourself in the sea,' and it would have obeyed you!

⁴⁹ And I will send down upon you what my Father has promised. But you, on your part, must stay right here in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."

In the name of Jesus of Nazareth start walking." ⁷ Then he took him by the right hand and lifted him, and his feet and ankles instantly grew strong, ⁸ and at once he leaped to his feet and started walking; then he went into the temple with them, walking, leaping, and praising God.

²⁹ And now, Lord, give attention to their threats and help your slaves with perfect courage to continue to speak your message, ³⁰ by stretching out your hand to cure people and to perform signs and wonders by the authority of your holy Servant Jesus." ³¹ When they had prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and continued courageously to speak God's message.

⁹ But you are not living on the plane of the lower nature, but on the spiritual plane, if the Spirit of God has His home within you. Unless a man has the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. ¹⁰ But if Christ lives in you, although your bodies must die because of sin, your spirits are now enjoying life because of right standing with God. ¹¹ If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead has His home within you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give your mortal bodies life through His Spirit that has His home within you.

⁶ Yet, when among mature believers we do set forth a wisdom, but a wisdom that does not belong to this world or to the leaders of this world who are passing away; ⁷ rather, we are setting forth a wisdom that came from God, once a covered secret but now uncovered, which God marked off as His plan for bringing us to glory. ⁸ Not one of this world's leaders understands it, for if they had, they would never have crucified our glorious Lord. ⁹ But, as the Scripture says, they are: "Things which eye has never seen and ear has never heard, and never have occurred to human hearts, which God prepared for those who love Him." ¹⁰ For God unveiled them to us through His Spirit, for the Spirit by searching discovers everything, even the deepest truths about God.
