¹² Rejoyce, and be exceeding glad: for great [is] your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.

¹ Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father in the heavens. ² Therefore, when thou shalt do alms, thou shalt not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may be glorified of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.

⁴ That thine alms may be in secret: and thy father who seeth in scret, himself shall reward thee. ⁵ And when thou shalt pray, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand, and to pray in the synagogues, and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.

¹⁶ Moreover, when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.

⁴¹ He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophets reward. ⁴² And whosoever shall give to drink to one o the least of these, a cup of cold water, in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, his reward shall not be lost.

²⁷ For the Son of man will come in the glory of his Father, with his holy angels; and then he shall reward every one according to his practice.

³⁴ And when the time of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. ³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again therefore, he sent other servants, more than the first: and they did unto them likewise. ³⁷ But last of all, he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.

³¹ Wherefore ye be witnesses unto your selves, that ye are the children of them who have killed the prophets. ³² Ye have also filled up the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the judgment of Gehenna? ³⁴ Therefore behold, I will send prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and [some] of them ye will kill and crucifie, and persecute from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the land, from the blood of righteous Abel, unto the blood of Zacharias, son of Barachias, whom ye have slain between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them who are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth [her] chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

²³ Rejoyce ye in that day, and leap for joy: because your reward [is] great in heaven: In the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

³⁵ But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, desponding nothing: and your reward shall be great and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful, and the evil.

⁴⁷ Wo unto you: for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Bear ye therefore witness that ye do not allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, but ye build [their sepulchres.] ⁴⁹ Therefore I send them prophets and apostles, and [some] of them they will slay and persecute: ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, unto this generation may be required; ⁵¹ From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, the Son of Barachias whom they slew between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, it shall be required of this generation.

³⁴ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto it, how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen her brood under [her] wings, and ye would not?

⁴¹ The apostles therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for [his] name.

⁵¹ Ye stiff necked, and uncircumcised in hearts and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as did also your fathers, so [do] ye. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not they persecuted? and they have slain those who shewed before of the coming of the just one, of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:

²⁵ And at the middle of the night Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

³ And not only this, but we glory in tribulations also, knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

⁸ Now he that planteth, and he that watereth, are one: and every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labour.

¹⁷ For our light and short affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding eternal weight of glory;

¹⁷ Yea, and if my blood be poured out upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

²⁴ Who now rejoice in sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for his body's sake, who is the church:

²⁴ Knowing, that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: ye serve the Lord Christ.

¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and the prophets, and have persecuted us; and please not God, and are contrary to all men:

⁶ But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God, must believe that he is, and is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

²⁶ Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

² My Brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

¹³ But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
