James 3 Cross References - Whiston

1 My brethren, be not many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation, 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same [is] a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Behold, we put bits in the horses mouth, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever, the governor listeth. 5 In like manner also the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold how little a fire how great a matter it kindleth. 6 And the tongue [is] a fire; a world of iniquity, [so] is the tongue amongst our members, It defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of gehenna. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, of serpents, and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; an unquiet evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we the Lord and Father; and therewith curse we men, who are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My Brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet and bitter? 12 Can the fig-tree, my brethren, bear olive-berries? either a vine, figs? so neither [can] salt water make fresh. 13 Who [is] a wise man and endued with knowledge amongst you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14 But if then ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife [is], there [is] also confusion, and every evil work. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entrated, full of mercy and good fruits, without wavering, without hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Matthew 8:24

24 And behold there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with waves: but he was asleep.

Acts 27:14-38

14 But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called The North-east [wind.] 15 And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let [her] drive 16 And running under a certain island which is called Cauda, we had much work to come by the boat: 17 Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and fearing lest they should fallinto the quick-sands, struck sail, and so were driven. 18 And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next [day] they lightned the ship; 19 And the third [day] they cast out with their own hands the tackling of the ship. 20 And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on [us], all hope that we should be saved, was then taken away. 21 And after long abstinence, Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss. 22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of life among you, but of the ship. 23 For there stood by me this night, the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, 24 saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cesar: and lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. 25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me. 26 Howbeit, we must be cast upon a certain island. 27 But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria about midnight, the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country: 28 And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, found it fifteen fathoms. 29 But fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day. 30 And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship, 31 Paul said to the centurion, and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved. 32 Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off. 33 And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, ye have waited this fourteenth day, and continued fasting, having taken nothing. 34 Wherefore I pray you take meat; for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair perish from the head of any of you. 35 And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all, and when he had broken [it,] he began to eat. 36 Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took meat. 37 And we were in all in the ship, two hundred threescore and sixteen souls. 38 And when they had eaten enough, they lightned the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.

2 Peter 2:18

18 For when they speak great swelling [words] of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that in some measure escape from them who live in error:

Matthew 15:11-20

11 Not all that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man: but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. 12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, knowest thou that the Pharisees were scandalized after they heard this saying? 13 But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. 14 Let these that are blind alone: they be blind leaders. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. 15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. 16 And he said, Are ye also yet without understanding? 17 Do not ye understand, that whatsoever entreth in at the mouth, goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth, come forth from the heart, and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witnesses, blasphemy. 20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15

13 For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 [It is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

9 Whose coming is after the working of Satan, with all power, and signs, and wonders of a lie. 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness, in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth of Christ, that they might be saved. 11 For this cause God sends them strong delusion, that they shall believe a lie: 12 That they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly, of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling [words]; respecters of persons, because of advantage. 17 But beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: 18 That they told you there should come mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
