James 1 Cross References - Whiston

1 JAMES a Servant of God, and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. 2 My Brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing [this,] that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have [her] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not[;] and it shall be given him, 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering: for he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea, driven with the wind, and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double-minded man [is] unstable in all his ways. 9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: 10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. 11 For [where] the sun is risen with a burning heat, it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. 12 Blessed [is] the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which He hath promised to them that love him. 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man. 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not therefore err, mybeloved brethren. 17 Every, good gift, and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures. 19 Ye know [it], my beloved brethren. And let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. 20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. 21 Whrefore lay apart all filthiness, and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 If any one be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth [in it,] being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 26 If any man seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion [is] vain. 27 For pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father, is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Then came they and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. 51 And behold one of them who were with Jesus, stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priests, and smote off his ear. 52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place: for all they that take the sword, shall perish with the sword. 53 Or thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angel? 54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? 55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come as against a thief with swords and staves to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. 56 But all this hath been done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook im, and fled. 57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus, led [him] away to Caiphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. 58 But Peter followed him afar off, unto the high priests palace, and went in, and sat with the servants to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus to put him to death.

Romans 5:12-21

12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entred in the world, and death by sin; and so it passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. 13 For until the law, sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come: 15 But not as the offence, so also [is] the free gift. For if through the offence of one, the many be dead; much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16 And not as [it was] by one sin, [so is] the gift: for the judgment [was] by one to condemnation: but the free gift [is] of many offences unto justification of life, 17 For if by one offence, death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace, and of the gift of righteousness, shall reign in life by one Jesus Christ. 18 Therefore as by one offence [it came] upon all men to condemnation: even so by one righteousness [it came] upon all men unto justification of life. 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners: so by the obedience of one man, shall many be made righteous. 20 Moreover, the law entered, that the offence might abound: But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life, by Jesus Christ our Lord.

21 What fruit had ye then in those things, whereof ye are now ashamed? for truly the end of those things [is] death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin [is] death: but the gift of God [is] eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
