³⁸ For as in the days that were benore the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, till the day that Noah entered into the ark.

³⁰ they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years: take thine ease; eat, drink, and be merry.

⁴⁵ But if that servant say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming, and shall begin to beat the men servants and maidens, and to eat, and drink, and be drunken:

¹⁸ And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said to him, I have bought a field, I must needs go and see it: I pray thee, have me excused. ¹⁹ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. ²⁰ And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the son of man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, till the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded:

³⁴ But take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overloaded with gluttony, and drunkenness, and the cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

¹³ Let us walk decently, as in the day; not in banqueting and drunken entertainments, not in uncleannesses and wantonness, not in strife and envy. ¹⁴ But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the desires thereof.

²⁹ But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that even they that have wives, be as if they had none: And they that weep, as if they wept not; ³⁰ and they that rejoice, as if they rejoiced not; ³¹ and they that buy, as if they possessed not; And they that use this world, as not abusing it; for the fashion of this world passeth away: Now I would have you without carefulness.
