¹ Then said the high priest, Are these things so? And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken.

⁶¹ At last came two false witnesses, And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. ⁶² And the high priest rising up said to him, Answerest thou nothing? What do these witness against thee?

⁵⁸ saying, We heard him say, I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. ⁵⁹ And neither so was their evidence sufficient. Then the high priest standing up in the midst, ⁶⁰ asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing?

¹⁹ Then the high priest asked Jesus of his disciples and of his doctrine. ²⁰ Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I was continually teaching in the synagogue and in the temple, whither all the Jews resort, and in secret have I said nothing. ²¹ Why askest thou me? Ask them that heard me, what I said to them: behold, they know what I said.

³³ Then Pilate returned into the palace, and called Jesus, and said to him, Art thou the king of the Jews? ³⁴ Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this of thyself? or did others tell it thee of me? ³⁵ Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thy own nation, even the chief priests, have delivered thee to me.

¹³ And set up false witnesses who said, This man ceaseth not to speak words against the holy place and the law. ¹⁴ For we have heard him say, That Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and change the rites which Moses delivered us.
