¹³ Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake, whether it be to the king as supreme, Or to governors,

²¹ They say to him, Cesar's. Then said he to them, Render therefore to Cesar the things that are Cesar's, and to God the things that are God's.

¹⁷ They say to him, Cesar's. And Jesus answering said to them, Render to Cesar the things that are Cesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

¹ Let every soul be subject to the supreme powers, for there is no power but from God; the powers that be, are appointed by God. ² Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the appointment of God; and they that resist shall receive to themselves condemnation. ³ For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Wouldest thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise from it; for he is the servant of God to thee for good. ⁴ But if thou dost that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain; for he is the servant of God, an avenger for wrath against him that doth evil. ⁵ Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. ⁶ For this cause ye pay tribute also: for they are the ministers of God, attending continually on this very thing. ⁷ Render therefore to all their due: tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honour to whom honour.

²⁵ He said, Render therefore to C?sar the things which are C?sar's, and to God the things which are God's.

¹ I exhort therefore, that first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made for all men: ² For kings and all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

¹ Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready for every good work:

¹⁰ But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise government: presumptuous, self-willed; they are not afraid to rail at dignities:

⁸ In like manner these dreamers also defile the flesh, despise authority, rail at dignities. ⁹ Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil, he disputed concerning the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. ¹⁰ But these rail at all the things which they know not: and all the things which they know naturally, as the brute beasts, in these they are defiled.
