²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to thee? ²⁵ And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself. ²⁶ And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son; ²⁷ And say, Thus saith the king, Put this man in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction, and with water of affliction, until I come in peace. ²⁸ And Micaiah said, If thou shalt return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

⁷ Be not wise in thy own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like him.

¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor man that hath understanding searcheth him out.

¹ Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, who were of Jerusalem, saying, ² Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. ³ But he answered and said to them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

¹ The Pharisees also and the Sadducees came, and, tempting, desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven. ² He answered and said to them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. ³ And in the morning, It will be foul weather to-day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? ⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh for a sign; and there shall no sign been to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them, and departed.

²³ And when he had come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things; and who gave thee this authority? ²⁴ And Jesus answered and said to them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁵ The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, if we shall say, From heaven; he will say to us, Why then did ye not believe him? ²⁶ But if we shall say, From men; we fear the people: for all hold John as a prophet. ²⁷ And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

¹⁵ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. ¹⁶ And they sent out to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute to Cesar, or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the tribute-money. And they brought to him a penny. ²⁰ And he saith to them, Whose is this image, and superscription? ²¹ They say to him, Cesar's. Then saith he to them, Render therefore to Cesar, the things which are Cesar's; and to God, the things that are God's. ²² When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left him, and departed. ²³ The same day came to him the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, ²⁴ Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man shall die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. ²⁵ Now there were with us seven brothers: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased; and having no issue, left his wife to his brother. ²⁶ Likewise the second also, and the third, to the seventh. ²⁷ And last of all the woman died also. ²⁸ Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. ²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. ³¹ But as concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, ³² I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

¹³ And one of the company said to him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. ¹⁴ And he said to him, Man, who made me a judge, or a divider over you? ¹⁵ And he said to them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. ¹⁶ And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: ¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to deposit my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I deposit all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast abundance of goods laid up for many years; take thy ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? ²¹ So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

²³ Then said one to him, Lord, are there few that are saved? And he said to them, ²⁴ Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. ²⁵ When once the master of the house hath risen, and hath shut the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us; and he will answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are: ²⁶ Then ye will begin to say, We have eaten and drank in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. ²⁷ But he will say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are: depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. ²⁸ There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves excluded. ²⁹ And they will come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and will sit down in the kingdom of God. ³⁰ And behold, there are last, who shall be first; and there are first who shall be last.

⁷ So when they continued asking him, he raised himself, and said to them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

²⁶ Then they said to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thy eyes? ²⁷ He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: Why would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? ²⁸ Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God spoke to Moses: as for this man, we know not whence he is. ³⁰ The man answered and said to them, Why, herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened my eyes. ³¹ Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man is a worshiper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. ³² Since the world began hath it not been heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. ³³ If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.

²⁵ For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, (lest ye should be wise in your own conceits) that blindness in part hath happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles shall be come in.

¹⁶ Be of the same mind one towards another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

¹³ This testimony is true: wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
