¹¹ And the LORD said to him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD. ¹² Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

¹⁵ And thou shalt speak to him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

³¹ And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they compassed about him to fight: but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.

²⁷ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, who hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:

¹¹ O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thy ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cup-bearer.

¹⁷ LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thy ear to hear:

³⁶ Incline my heart to thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.

⁹ A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

²¹ There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

²⁴ Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

¹ The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

⁷ But the LORD said to me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatever I command thee thou shalt speak. ⁸ Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. ⁹ Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said to me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

²³ O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

³⁹ And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: ⁴⁰ And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

²⁶ A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. ²⁷ And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

¹⁹ But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak, for it shall be given to you in that same hour what ye shall speak. ²⁰ For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

¹¹ And when they bring you to the synagogues, and before magistrates, and powers, be not solicitous how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: ¹² For the Holy Spirit will teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

¹⁴ Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer. ¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

¹⁶ But thanks be to God, who put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.

¹³ For it is God who worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

¹⁶ Do not err, my beloved brethren. ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. ¹⁸ Of his own will he hath begotten us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures.

² (36:1)To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD. The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

²⁵ There is a way that seemeth right to a man, but the end of it is the ways of death.

² Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

¹² If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and will not he render to every man according to his works?

¹² There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.

⁷ The way of the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just.

²² For though thou shalt wash thee with niter, and take thee much soap, yet thy iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD. ²³ How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

¹⁰ I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

¹⁵ And he said to them, Ye are they who justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men, is abomination in the sight of God.

⁹ And he spoke this parable to certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

⁷ What shall we say then? Is the law sin? By no means. No, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. ⁸ But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. ⁹ For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

¹⁸ And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he who searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give to every one of you according to your works.

⁸ I would seek to God, and to God would I commit my cause:

²⁸ Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established to thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

⁴ Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he will give thee the desires of thy heart. ⁵ Commit thy way to the LORD; trust also in him; and he will bring it to pass.

²⁵ Therefore I say to you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment? ²⁶ Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? ²⁷ Which of you by anxious care can add one cubit to his stature? ²⁸ And why are ye anxious for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field how they grow? they toil not, neither do they spin? ²⁹ And yet I say to you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ Wherefore, if God so clotheth the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? ³¹ Therefore be not anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or what shall we drink? or, with what shall we be clothed? ³² (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. ³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. ³⁴ Therefore be not anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be solicitous for the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is its own evil.

²² And he said to his disciples, Therefore I say to you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

⁷ Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

³⁰ That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they will be brought forth to the day of wrath.

⁷ Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; verily, I have made him.

²¹ This people have I formed for myself; they shall show forth my praise.

²² What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much long-suffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

³⁶ For from him, and by him, and to him are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

⁸ And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense, even to them who stumble at the word, being disobedient: to which also they were appointed.

³ And through covetousness they will with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

⁹ The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust to the day of judgment to be punished:

¹¹ Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honor, and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

¹² (40:17)He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his male organs are wrapped together.

¹⁶ These six things doth the LORD hate: yes, seven are an abomination to him: ¹⁷ A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

²¹ Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down upon it. ⁸ And the LORD said to Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and shunneth evil?

²⁸ And to man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹⁰ (85:9)Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.

¹⁶ A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

²⁷ The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

²⁸ Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upheld by mercy.

²⁷ Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thy iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

¹⁸ Who is a God like to thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. ¹⁹ He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. ²⁰ Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn to our fathers from the days of old.

⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and behold, all things are clean to you.

² Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit, he cleaneth it, that it my bring forth more fruit.

⁹ And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

¹ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

²¹ Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

²² Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

⁴¹ And Esau hated Jacob, because of the blessing with which his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

³¹ What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

¹⁸ But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing to God.

¹⁰ That ye may walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

²⁰ Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.

²¹ Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

²² And whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

¹⁶ A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

¹⁶ Better is little with the fear of the LORD, than great treasure and trouble with it.

⁶ The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro by them that seek death. ⁷ The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.

¹⁰ Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain. ⁷ For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. ⁸ And having food and raiment, with these let us be content. ⁹ But they that will be rich, fall into temptation, and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

²³ The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

³ The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. ⁴ And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

²⁸ And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

⁶ (45:5)Thy arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; by which the people fall under thee. ⁷ (45:6)Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the scepter of thy kingdom is a scepter of justice.

¹ A Psalm for Solomon. Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness to the king's son. ² He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment. ³ The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. ⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

⁴ The king's strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

⁵ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice upon the earth. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell in safety: and this is his name by which he shall be called, JEHOVAH OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

⁴ They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

⁷ Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness on the earth,

¹² Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

³⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in weight, in measure of length or of capacity. ³⁶ Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

¹³ Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small: ¹⁴ Thou shalt not have in thy house divers measures, a great and a small: ¹⁵ But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have; that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

¹ A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.

¹⁰ Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

²³ Divers weights are an abomination to the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

¹⁰ Ye shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath.

⁷ (12:6)Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.

⁵ Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

¹¹ Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?

¹⁶ For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination to the LORD thy God.

¹⁸ Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

⁵ Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

⁹ He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

¹⁴ The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.

⁴⁸ But he that knew not, and committed things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For to whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required: and to whom men have committed much, from him they will ask the more.

¹¹ And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

⁵ Whoever privily slandereth his neighbor, him will I cut off: him that hath a high look and a proud heart I will not suffer. ⁶ My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me. ⁷ He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.

³⁵ The king's favor is towards a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.

¹¹ He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

³¹ Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day. ³² But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away my head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him? ³³ And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down to him: and he said, Behold, this evil is from the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

¹¹ An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

¹² The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favor is as dew upon the grass.

² The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoever provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.

⁴ If the spirit of the ruler riseth against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offenses.

¹³ Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king. ¹⁴ Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said to them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do ye not serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? ¹⁵ Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands? ¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. ¹⁷ If it is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thy hand, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, be it known to thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. ¹⁹ Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was wont to be heated. ²⁰ And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. ²¹ Then these men were bound in their coats, their hose, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²² Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire killed those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. ²³ And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²⁴ Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spoke, and said to his counselors, Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said to the king, True, O king. ²⁵ He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt: and the form of the fourth is like the son of God.

²⁷ And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

⁴ And I say to you, my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, who after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, Fear him.

²⁰ And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon. But they came with one accord to him, and having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace, because their country was nourished by the king's country.

²⁰ Now then we are embassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

²³ And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain. ²⁴ If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

⁶ (4:5)Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.

⁶ (21:5)His glory is great in thy salvation: honor and majesty hast thou laid upon him.

⁵ (30:4)Sing to the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

⁶ He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.

³ Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he will come to us as the rain, as the latter and former rain to the earth.

¹ Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD will make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.

²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou wilt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

¹³ Man knoweth not the price of it; neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me. ¹⁵ It cannot be obtained for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price of it. ¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. ¹⁷ The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies. ¹⁹ The topaz of Cush shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. ²⁰ Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air. ²² Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame of it with our ears. ²³ God understandeth the way of it, and he knoweth its place. ²⁴ For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven; ²⁵ To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure. ²⁶ When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder: ²⁷ Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out. ²⁸ And to man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹²⁷ Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yes, above fine gold.

¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared to her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

¹⁰ Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. ¹¹ For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

¹² For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: but the excellence of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

²¹ So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

²⁴ Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. ²⁵ Let thy eyes look right on, and let thy eyelids look straight before thee. ²⁶ Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. ²⁷ Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

⁹ He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

¹⁶ He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

⁸ And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called, The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the way-faring men, though fools, shall not err therein.

¹³ But he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.

³⁵ But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

¹⁶ And in this I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offense towards God, and towards men.

¹⁰ Not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. ¹¹ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, ¹² Teaching us, that denying ungodliness, and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and piously, in this present world; ¹³ Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Savior Jesus Christ; ¹⁴ Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

³⁹ But we are not of them who draw back to perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

²¹ Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

²⁴ Now to him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

¹⁰ Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

⁵ And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.

⁶ So Haman came in. And the king said to him, What shall be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honor? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself?

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.

² When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

¹⁹ He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.

¹² Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be abased, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

¹⁰ Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. ¹¹ Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered? ¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?

³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.

³⁰ The king spoke, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty? ³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom hath departed from thee. ³² And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou shalt know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. ³³ The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws. ³⁴ And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honored him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation: ³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say to him, What doest thou? ³⁶ At the same time my reason returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and brightness returned to me; and my counselors and my lords sought to me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me. ³⁷ Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

²² And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thy heart, though thou knewest all this;

²⁴ Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.

³ The pride of thy heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? ⁴ Though thou shalt exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou shalt set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.

³³ Peter answered and said to him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. ³⁴ Jesus said to him, Verily I say to thee, that this night, before the cock shall crow, thou wilt deny me thrice. ³⁵ Peter said to him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

⁷⁴ Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crowed.

²⁰ Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high-minded, but fear:

⁶ Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

¹⁸ (34:17)The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

⁶ Though the LORD is high, yet hath he respect to the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

³ Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

¹³ For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: ¹⁴ And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped. ¹⁵ Shall the ax boast itself against him that heweth with it? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that moveth it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it, or as if the staff should lift itself, as if it were no wood.

¹² Therefore I will divide to him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul to death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

¹⁵ For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

³ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

⁵¹ He hath shown strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. ⁵² He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. ⁵³ He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent away empty.

¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

³⁸ And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find such a man as this is, a man in whom the spirit of God is? ³⁹ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shown thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: ⁴⁰ Thou shalt be over my house, and according to thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

²⁰ And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was entreated by them; because they put their trust in him.

¹² Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

⁸ (34:7)The angel of the LORD encampeth around them that fear him, and delivereth them.

¹ A Song of degrees. They that trust in the LORD, shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.

⁵ Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:

³⁵ For whoever findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favor from the LORD.

¹⁵ Good understanding giveth favor: but the way of transgressors is hard.

² A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

⁸ He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

¹⁹ That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. ²⁰ Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

³ Through wisdom is a house built; and by understanding it is established: ⁴ And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. ⁵ A wise man is strong; and a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

³ Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. ⁴ Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

¹⁸ And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious to you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

⁷ Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be anxious in the year of drouth, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

¹⁹ And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore they stood before the king. ²⁰ And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times superior to all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. ²¹ And Daniel continued even to the first year of king Cyrus.

²⁸ Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

²³ (6:22)My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocence was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

¹² That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. ¹³ In whom ye also trusted, after ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

¹² Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there hath been none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like to thee.

² (45:1)To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made concerning the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

⁸ The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

⁷ The lips of the wise diffuse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

²³ The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips. ²⁴ Pleasant words are as a honey-comb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

¹⁵ My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

⁹ Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

¹⁰ The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

⁴ The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth my ear to hear as the learned.

²² And all bore him testimony, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

⁴⁶ The officers answered, Never man spoke like this man.

¹⁹ For your obedience is come abroad to all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise to that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

¹¹ The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

¹⁴ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

² The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

²⁸ The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

⁴ The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the well-spring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

¹⁴ Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leadeth the blind, both will fall into the ditch.

¹⁶ Woe to you, ye blind guides, who say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor. ¹⁷ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? ¹⁸ And whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. ¹⁹ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ Whoever therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things upon it. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth in it. ²² And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth upon it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ye ought to have done, and not to leave the others undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel. ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

³⁹ And he spoke a parable to them; Can the blind lead the blind? will they not both fall into the ditch? ⁴⁰ The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect, shall be as his master.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but hath passed from death to life.

⁶³ It is the spirit that reviveth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak to you, they are spirit, and they are life.

⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

¹⁷ Bow down thy ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart to my knowledge. ¹⁸ For it is a pleasant thing if thou keepest them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh. ³⁵ A good man, out of the good treasure of the heart, bringeth forth good things: and an evil man, out of the evil treasure, bringeth forth evil things.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

² My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distill as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

¹⁰ (19:9)The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

¹⁰³ How sweet are thy words to my taste! yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

⁸ It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

²² For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

¹⁸ There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

²³ A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

²⁶ The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

¹⁶ Yes, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

¹³ My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honey-comb, which is sweet to thy taste: ¹⁴ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

¹¹ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. ¹² As an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

¹¹ Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honey-comb; honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

¹⁶ Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

¹⁹ Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith to them, Peace be to you. ²⁰ And when he had so said, he showed to them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad when they saw the Lord. ²¹ Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be to you: as my Father hath sent me, even so I send you.

¹⁵ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth to counsel is wise.

²⁶ The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

¹² There is a way which seemeth right to a man, but the end of it are the ways of death.

¹⁵ Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we in agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not reach us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves: ¹⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. ¹⁷ Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding-place. ¹⁸ And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it. ¹⁹ From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

⁴⁷ Then the Pharisees answered them, Are ye also deceived? ⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers, or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who know not the law are cursed.

⁴⁰ And some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these words, and said to him, Are we blind also?

⁹ I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

⁵ Examine yourselves, whether ye are in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye are reprobates?

¹² If thou art wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

²³ In all labor there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

⁷ All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

¹¹ And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; ¹² That ye may walk honestly towards them that are without, and that ye may have need of nothing.

⁸ Neither did we eat any man's bread for naught; but wrought with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: ⁹ Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves a pattern to you to follow us. ¹⁰ For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. ¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busy-bodies. ¹² Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

¹⁷ Now therefore know and consider what thou wilt do: for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him.

¹⁴ From men who are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, who have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes. ¹⁵ As for me, I shall behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, demoniacal. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

¹¹ Saul also sent messengers to David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal, David's wife, told him, saying, If thou dost not save thy life to-night, to-morrow thou wilt be slain.

¹⁹ Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon? ²⁰ Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king's hand. ²¹ And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the LORD; for ye have compassion on me.

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. ¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: ¹³ We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: ¹⁴ Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

¹² To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; ¹³ Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; ¹⁴ Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; ¹⁵ Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

³¹ Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

¹⁷ Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.

⁶ And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not show you my opinion. ⁷ I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

¹ My son, forget not my law; but let thy heart keep my commandments; ² For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

⁶ Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children is their fathers.

⁹ Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

⁸ The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy.

²⁹ He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

¹⁹ Better it is to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

¹¹ The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

²⁸ He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

²¹ Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹ Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

¹⁹ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

²¹ To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me on my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father on his throne.

And Kohath begat Amram. ⁵⁹ And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bore to Levi in Egypt: and she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister. ⁶⁰ And to Aaron was born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ⁶¹ And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD. ⁶² And those that were numbered of them were twenty and three thousand, all males from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel. ⁶³ These are they that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho. ⁶⁴ But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

⁴¹ Therefore Saul said to the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped. ⁴² And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.

¹ And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts to dwell in other cities.

¹⁸ The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

²⁶ Many seek the ruler's favor; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.

⁷ And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

²⁶ And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
