² And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering, said to him, Thou sayest it.

² Saying, Where is he that is born king of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and have come to worship him.

¹¹ And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said to him, Thou sayest. ¹² And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. ¹³ Then saith Pilate to him, Hearest thou not how many things they testify against thee? ¹⁴ And he answered him to not a word; so that the governor marveled greatly.

⁹ But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release to you the King of the Jews?

¹² And Pilate answered, and said again to them, What will ye then that I shall do to him whom ye call the King of the Jews?

¹⁸ And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

²⁶ And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

² And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cesar, saying, that he himself is Christ a king. ³ And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.

²⁹ Pilate then went out to them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? ³⁰ They answered and said to him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up to thee. ³¹ Then said Pilate to them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said to him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: ³² That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die. ³³ Then Pilate entered into the judgment-hall again, and called Jesus, and said to him, Art thou the King of the Jews? ³⁴ Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing from thyself, or did others tell it thee concerning me? ³⁵ Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thy own nation, and the chief priests, have delivered thee to me: What hast thou done? ³⁶ Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. ³⁷ Pilate therefore said to him, Art thou a King then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a King. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. ³⁸ Pilate saith to him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and saith to them, I find in him no fault.

¹⁹ And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. ²⁰ Many of the Jews then read this title: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. ²¹ Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. ²² Pilate answered, What I have written, I have written.
