I will send my beloved son: it may be when they see him they will reverence him. ¹⁴ But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. ¹⁵ So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them? ¹⁶ He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, may that never be. ¹⁷ And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? ¹⁸ Whoever shall fall upon that stone, shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. ¹⁹ And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. ²⁰ And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him to the power and authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly: ²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Cesar, or not? ²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, Why tempt ye me? ²⁴ Show me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Cesar's. ²⁵ And he said to them, Render therefore to Cesar the things which are Cesar's, and to God the things which are God's. ²⁶ And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace. ²⁷ Then came to him certain of the Sadducees (who deny that there is any resurrection) and they asked him, ²⁸ Saying, Master, Moses wrote to us, If any man's brother should die, having a wife, and he should die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. ²⁹ There were therefore seven brothers: and the first took a wife, and died without children. ³⁰ And the second took her for a wife, and he died childless. ³¹ And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: And they left no children, and died. ³² Last of all the woman died also. ³³ Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife. ³⁴ And Jesus answering, said to them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: ³⁵ But they who shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage. ³⁶ Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. ³⁷ Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. ³⁸ For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live to him. ³⁹ Then certain of the scribes answering, said, Master, thou hast well said. ⁴⁰ And after that, they durst not ask him any question at all. ⁴¹ And he said to them, How say they that Christ is David's son? ⁴² And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, ⁴³ Till I make thy enemies thy footstool. ⁴⁴ David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son? ⁴⁵ Then in the audience of all the people, he said to his disciples, ⁴⁶ Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; ⁴⁷ Who devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

¹ Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. ¹ And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,

⁴⁷ And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests, and the scribes, and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, ⁴⁸ And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.

¹² And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

¹⁴ And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus upon him. ³⁶ And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. ³⁷ And when he had come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice, for all the mighty works that they had seen. ³⁸ Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. ³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said to him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. ⁴⁰ And he answered and said to them, I tell you, that if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

⁴⁵ And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold in it, and them that bought, ⁴⁶ Saying to them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves.

¹⁸ Then answered the Jews, and said to him, What sign showest thou to us, seeing that thou doest these things?

²² For the Father judgeth no man; but hath committed all judgment to the Son: ²³ That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son, honoreth not the Father who hath sent him. ²⁴ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but hath passed from death to life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say to you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself, so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; ²⁷ And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

⁷ And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name have ye done this? ⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, ⁹ If we this day are examined concerning the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made sound. ¹⁰ Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you sound.

²⁷ But he that did his neighbor wrong, thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?

³⁵ This Moses, whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush. ³⁶ He brought them out, after he had showed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years. ³⁷ This is that Moses, who said to the children of Israel, A prophet will the Lord your God raise up to you of your brethren, like me; him will ye hear. ³⁸ This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him on the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the living oracles to give to us: ³⁹ Whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

⁵¹ Ye stiff-necked, and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye.

² Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. ³ But he answered and said to them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

⁶⁸ And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

²⁵ That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou shalt know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. ²⁶ And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure to thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

⁷ And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? a reed shaken with the wind? ⁸ But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. ⁹ But what went ye out to see? A prophet? yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. ¹⁰ For this is he concerning whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee. ¹¹ Verily, I say to you, among them that are born of women, there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven, is greater than he. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist, until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. ¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. ¹⁴ And if ye will receive it, this is Elijah who was to come. ¹⁵ He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. ¹⁶ But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like to children sitting in the markets, and calling to their fellows, ¹⁷ And saying, We have piped to you, and ye have not danced; We have mourned to you, and ye have not lamented. ¹⁸ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon. ¹⁹ The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a man gluttonous, and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified by her children.

¹¹ And Jesus answered and said to them, Elijah truly will first come, and restore all things: ¹² But I say to you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done to him whatever they pleased: likewise will also the Son of man suffer by them.

²⁸ For I say to you, Among those that are born of women, there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God, is greater than he. ²⁹ And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized by him. ³¹ And the Lord said, To what then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? ³² They are like children sitting in the market-place, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped to you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept. ³³ For John the Baptist came neither eating bread, nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a demon. ³⁴ The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. ³⁵ But wisdom is justified by all her children.

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

¹⁹ And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, to ask him, Who art thou? ²⁰ And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. ²¹ And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? and he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. ²² Then said they to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? ²³ He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah. ²⁴ And they who were sent were of the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they asked him, and said to him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou art not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet? ²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; ²⁷ He it is, who coming after me, is preferred before me, whose shoes' latchet I am not worthy to unloose. ²⁸ These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

¹⁵ John testified concerning him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spoke, He that cometh after me, is preferred before me; for he was before me. ¹⁶ And of his fullness have we all received, and grace for grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

³⁰ This is he of whom I said, after me cometh a man who is preferred before me; for he was before me.

³⁴ And I saw and bore testimony, that this is the Son of God.

²⁶ And they came to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou didst bear testimony, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.

³⁶ He that believeth on the Son, hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

³³ Ye sent to John, and he testified to the truth. ³⁴ But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye may be saved. ³⁵ He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

²⁵ And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

⁹ But what went ye out to see? A prophet? yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.

⁵ And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

²⁶ But if we shall say, From men; we fear the people: for all hold John as a prophet.

⁴⁶ But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.

⁵ But they said, Not on the feast-day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

¹² And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people; for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and departed.

⁷⁶ And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest, for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

²⁶ But what went ye out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he, concerning whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee. ²⁸ For I say to you, Among those that are born of women, there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God, is greater than he. ²⁹ And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

⁴¹ And many resorted to him, and said, John performed no miracle; but all things that John spoke of this man were true.

²⁶ Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

⁹ And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

¹¹ LORD, when thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yes, the fire of thy enemies shall devour them.

⁹ Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. ¹⁰ For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered. ¹¹ And the vision of all is become to you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: ¹² And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.

¹⁴ Therefore behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even an astonishing work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

²⁸ For I beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counselor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.

¹⁹ Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD'S servant? ²⁰ Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.

¹⁸ They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

⁷ Yes, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD. ⁸ How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain he hath made it; the pen of the scribes is in vain. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

¹⁵ And the LORD said to me, Take to thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.

¹⁷ Woe to the idle shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be wholly dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

⁷ For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. ⁸ But ye have departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. ⁹ Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men have loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

³⁹ And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they who see not, may see; and that they who see, may be made blind.

¹⁰ And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: ¹² That they all may be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

⁸ Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹ But they shall proceed no further: for their folly will be manifest to all men, as theirs also was.

³ Knowing this first, that there will come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

¹² He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. ¹³ He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like him. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

¹⁴ Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leadeth the blind, both will fall into the ditch.

⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh for a sign; and there shall no sign been to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them, and departed.

²⁷ And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

³³ And they answered and said to Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

¹⁵ So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes. ¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. ¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring to me, and I will hear it. ¹⁸ And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.

¹⁸ Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

⁸ If there shall arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates: then shalt thou arise, and go up to the place which the LORD thy God shall choose; ⁹ And thou shalt come to the priests the Levites, and to the judge that shall be in those days, and inquire; and they shall show thee the sentence of judgment: ¹⁰ And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall show thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee: ¹¹ According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall show thee, to the right hand, nor to the left. ¹² And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken to the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or to the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt remove the evil from Israel. ¹³ And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously. ¹⁴ When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell in it, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me; ¹⁵ Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, who is not thy brother.

⁸ (80:7)Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. ⁹ (80:8)Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it. ¹⁰ (80:9)Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land. ¹¹ (80:10)The hills were covered with the shade of it, and its boughs were like the goodly cedars. ¹² (80:11)She sent out her boughs to the sea, and her branches to the river. ¹³ (80:12)Why hast thou then broke down her hedges, so that all they who pass by the way do pluck her? ¹⁴ (80:13)The boar from the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; he let out the vineyard to keepers; every one for the fruit of it was to bring a thousand pieces of silver. ¹² My vineyard which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit of it two hundred.

¹ Now will I sing to my well-beloved a song of my beloved concerning his vineyard. My well-beloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: ² And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones of it, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a wine-press therein: and he expected that it would bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. ³ And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard. ⁴ What more could have been done to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I expected that it would bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? ⁵ And now come; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall of it, and it shall be trodden down: ⁶ And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. ⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

²¹ Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine to me?

³³ Hear another parable; There was a certain householder, who planted a vineyard, and hedged it around, and digged a wine-press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a remote country: ³⁴ And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. ³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they did to them in like manner. ³⁷ But last of all he sent to them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. ³⁹ And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him. ⁴⁰ When therefore the Lord of the vineyard cometh, what will he do to those husbandmen? ⁴¹ They say to him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render him the fruits in their seasons. ⁴² Jesus saith to them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? ⁴³ Therefore I say to you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits of it. ⁴⁴ And whoever shall fall on this stone, shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. ⁴⁵ And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke of them. ⁴⁶ But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.

¹⁴ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered to them his goods.

¹ And he began to speak to them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a place for the wine-vat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country. ² And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard. ³ And they caught him, and beat him and sent him away empty. ⁴ And again, he sent to them another servant: and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled. ⁵ And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some. ⁶ Having yet therefore one son, his well-beloved, he sent him also last to them, saying, They will reverence my son. ⁷ But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours. ⁸ And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. ⁹ What therefore will the Lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. ¹⁰ And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: ¹¹ This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? ¹² And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people; for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and departed.

¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

¹ I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. ² Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit, he cleaneth it, that it my bring forth more fruit. ³ Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. ⁴ Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine: no more can ye, except ye abide in me. ⁵ I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. ⁶ If a man abideth not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered: and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. ⁷ If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye may ask what ye will, and it shall be done to you. ⁸ In this is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

⁶ I have planted, Apollos watered: but God hath given the increase. ⁷ So then, neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth: but God that giveth the increase. ⁸ Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labor. ⁹ For we are laborers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

⁸ That the LORD sent a prophet to the children of Israel, who said to them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth from the house of bondage; ⁹ And I delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians, and from the hand of all that oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land; ¹⁰ And I said to you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.

²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to thee?

¹³ Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

¹⁰ Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

¹⁹ Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear. ²⁰ And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood above the people, and said to them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you. ²¹ And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.

¹⁵ And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling-place: ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

²⁶ Nevertheless, they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets who testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.

³⁰ Yet many years didst thou forbear over them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore thou gavest them into the hand of the people of the lands.

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in season; its leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he doeth shall prosper.

³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children; they have received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

²⁴ Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in its season: he reserveth to us the appointed weeks of harvest.

² Then Pashur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.

³ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even to this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened. ⁴ And the LORD hath sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear. ⁵ They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given to you and to your fathers for ever and ever: ⁶ And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt. ⁷ Yet ye have not hearkened to me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.

² Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD'S house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD'S house, all the words that I command thee to speak to them; diminish not a word: ³ It may be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent of the evil, which I purpose to do to them because of the evil of their doings. ⁴ And thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the LORD, If ye will not hearken to me to walk in my law, which I have set before you, ⁵ To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I have sent to you, both rising early, and sending them, but ye have not hearkened; ⁶ Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

²⁰ And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah: ²¹ And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt; ²² And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt. ²³ And they brought forth Urijah from Egypt, and brought him to Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people. ²⁴ Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

²⁶ The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks. ²⁷ Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, who maketh himself a prophet to you?

¹⁵ I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened to me.

¹⁵ Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and beat him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison. ¹⁶ When Jeremiah had entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

⁴ Therefore the princes said to the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt. ⁵ Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not he that can do any thing against you. ⁶ Then they took Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.

⁴ Yet I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate. ⁵ But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.

⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do to thee? O Judah, what shall I do to thee? for your goodness is as the morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away. ⁵ Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth. ⁶ For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice: and the knowledge of God more than burnt-offerings.

³ Therefore say thou to them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye to me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn to you, saith the LORD of hosts. ⁴ Be ye not as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken to me, saith the LORD. ⁵ Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever? ⁶ But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, As the LORD of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.

⁹ Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassions every man to his brother: ¹⁰ And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart. ¹¹ But they refused to hearken, and withdrew the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. ¹² Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts. ¹³ Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:

³⁴ And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. ³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they did to them in like manner.

⁴⁷ Woe to you! for ye build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Truly ye bear testimony, that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchers. ⁴⁹ Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will slay and persecute: ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee; how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathereth her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

¹⁶ Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

⁴ Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit to God.

¹ Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit to himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath multiplied the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.

³⁰ And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. ³¹ Wherefore ye are witnesses to yourselves, that ye are the children of them who killed the prophets. ³² Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? ³⁴ Wherefore behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel, to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them who are sent to thee, how often would I have gathered thy children, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them who showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers;

² But even after we had suffered before, and were shamefully treated, as ye know, at Phillippi, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much contention.

³⁶ And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, and, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: ³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheep-skins, and goat-skins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

⁴ What more could have been done to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I expected that it would bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?

³ It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

⁷ It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.

⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do to thee? O Judah, what shall I do to thee? for your goodness is as the morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.

⁸ How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? my heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.

¹⁷ And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

⁵ While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him.

³⁵ And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life. ¹⁷ For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him may be saved.

³⁵ The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. ³⁶ He that believeth on the Son, hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

⁴ But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

⁹ In this was manifested the love of God towards us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ¹⁰ In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. ¹² No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. ¹³ By this we know that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. ¹⁴ And we have seen and do testify, that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. ¹⁵ Whoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

¹⁸ And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near to them, they conspired against him to slay him. ¹⁹ And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer is coming. ²⁰ Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit; and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him; and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

¹ Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, ³ Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. ⁴ He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. ⁵ Then shall he speak to them in his wrath, and trouble them in his sore displeasure. ⁶ Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

⁸ Ask of me, and I will give thee the heathen for thy inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

²⁷ (89:26)He shall cry to me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.

² Saying, Where is he that is born king of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and have come to worship him. ³ When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And when he had assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where Christ should be born. ⁵ And they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judea: for thus it is written by the prophet, ⁶ And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the princes of Judah: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. ⁷ Then Herod, when he had privately called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. ⁸ And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go, and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. ⁹ When they had heard the king, they departed; and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. ¹⁰ When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. ¹¹ And when they had come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented to him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. ¹² And being warned by God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. ¹³ And when they had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. ¹⁴ When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: ¹⁵ And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken from the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. ¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all its borders, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

⁷ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.

²⁵ The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, if we shall say, From heaven; he will say to us, Why then did ye not believe him?

²¹ The governor answered and said to them, Which of the two will ye that I release to you? They said, Barabbas. ²² Pilate saith to them, What shall I do then with Jesus, who is called Christ? They all say to him, Let him be crucified. ²³ And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. ²⁴ When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. ²⁵ Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

⁴⁷ And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests, and the scribes, and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,

⁵ And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?

¹⁹ And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.

² And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him: for they feared the people.

⁴⁷ Then the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council, and said, What do we? for this man performeth many miracles. ⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come, and take away both our place and nation. ⁴⁹ And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said to them, Ye know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

²³ Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

¹⁵ And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; of which we are witnesses.

¹⁷ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if we suffer with him, that we may be glorified together.

² Hath in these last days spoken to us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

³⁷ But last of all he sent to them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. ³⁹ And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him. ⁴⁰ When therefore the Lord of the vineyard cometh, what will he do to those husbandmen?

⁶ Having yet therefore one son, his well-beloved, he sent him also last to them, saying, They will reverence my son. ⁷ But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours. ⁸ And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. ⁹ What therefore will the Lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others.

¹² Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

³⁶ Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that thou gavest to our fathers to eat the fruit of it and the good of it, behold, we are servants in it: ³⁷ And it yieldeth much increase to the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

⁸ Ask of me, and I will give thee the heathen for thy inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. ⁹ Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

⁸ (21:7)For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved. ⁹ (21:8)Thy hand shall find out all thy enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee. ¹⁰ (21:9)Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thy anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

⁴¹ They say to him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render him the fruits in their seasons.

⁷ But when the king heard of it, he was wroth: and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

²⁷ But those my enemies, who would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas became bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you: but seeing ye reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

²² The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

¹⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

⁹ For behold, the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes; behold, I will engrave the graving of it saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

⁴² Jesus saith to them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?

⁵ And when he had looked around on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

²³ And Jesus looked around, and saith to his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

¹⁰ And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

⁴¹ And when he had come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

³⁷ For I say to you, that this which is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

⁶¹ And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, Before the cock shall crow, thou wilt deny me thrice.

⁴⁴ And he said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

²⁵ But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

¹¹ This is the stone which was set at naught by you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

⁷ To you therefore who believe he is precious: but to them who are disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, ⁸ And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense, even to them who stumble at the word, being disobedient: to which also they were appointed.

¹⁴ And he will be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be insnared, and be taken.

³⁴ Thou sawest till a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces. ³⁵ Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

⁴⁴ And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. ⁴⁵ Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain, without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation of it sure.

³ And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be assembled against it.

³⁴ And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.

⁴⁴ And whoever shall fall on this stone, shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

¹⁶ Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

³ Then assembled the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, ⁴ And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

¹⁴ But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

² And Joab sent to Tekoah, and brought thence a wise woman, and said to her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:

² And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou mayest not be known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and go to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, who told me that I should be king over this people. ³ And take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he will tell thee what shall become of the child. ⁴ And Jeroboam's wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age. ⁵ And the LORD said to Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say to her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she will feign herself to be another woman. ⁶ And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

³² The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. ³³ The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

¹² (38:11)My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my affliction; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

³ Say to God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thy enemies submit themselves to thee.

¹⁵ (81:14)I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.

²⁰ For the terrible one is brought to naught, and the scoffer is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off: ²¹ That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of naught.

¹⁹ But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

¹⁸ Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

¹⁰ For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Perhaps he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

¹⁵ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. ¹⁶ And they sent out to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute to Cesar, or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the tribute-money. And they brought to him a penny. ²⁰ And he saith to them, Whose is this image, and superscription? ²¹ They say to him, Cesar's. Then saith he to them, Render therefore to Cesar, the things which are Cesar's; and to God, the things that are God's. ²² When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left him, and departed.

² And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

² And they watched him, to see whether he would heal him on the sabbath; that they might accuse him.

²⁶ And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace.

²⁸ Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment-hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. ²⁹ Pilate then went out to them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? ³⁰ They answered and said to him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up to thee. ³¹ Then said Pilate to them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said to him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: ³² That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.

³ And through covetousness they will with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

⁷ Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

¹⁹ How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

² The same came to Jesus by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

³⁴ Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, In truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: ³⁵ But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

¹⁷ For we are not as many, who corrupt the word of God: but as from sincerity, but as from God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

¹⁰ For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

⁶ But of these, who seemed to be somewhat, (whatever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat, in conference added nothing to me:

⁴ But as we were allowed by God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, who trieth our hearts. ⁵ For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:

¹⁵ Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, who is not thy brother.

¹³ Be it known now to the king, that, if this city shall be built, and the walls set up again, then they will not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou wilt endamage the revenue of the kings.

¹⁹ And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made in it. ²⁰ There have also been mighty kings over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid to them. ²¹ Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not built, until another commandment shall be given from me. ²² Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

⁷ Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass to this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

⁴ There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.

⁹ When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.

¹ The Pharisees also and the Sadducees came, and, tempting, desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven.

¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

²² But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering, said to them, What reason ye in your hearts?

⁸ But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, Rise, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose, and stood forth.

¹⁶ And others tempting him, sought from him a sign from heaven. ¹⁷ But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.

⁵³ And as he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to solicit him to speak of many things; ⁵⁴ Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something from his mouth, that they might accuse him.

²⁰ And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him to the power and authority of the governor.

²⁴ But Jesus did not commit himself to them, because he knew all men. ²⁵ And needed not that any should testify concerning man: for he knew what was in man.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

⁹ Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents.

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

²⁸ But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me what thou owest.

² And when he had agreed with the laborers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

¹ And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

¹ Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanius the tetrarch of Abilene,

²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Cesar, or not?

² And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cesar, saying, that he himself is Christ a king.

²⁸ And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Cesar.

⁸ While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Cesar have I committed any offense. ⁹ But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go to Jerusalem, and there be judged concerning these things before me? ¹⁰ Then said Paul, I stand at Cesar's tribunal, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest. ¹¹ For if I am an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there is none of these things of which these accuse me, no man may deliver me to them. I appeal to Cesar. ¹² Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed to Cesar? to Cesar thou shalt go.

³² Then said Agrippa to Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed to Cesar.

²² All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Cesar's household.

²¹ My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:

²⁷ Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take the fish that first cometh up: and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: take that, and give to them for me and thee.

²¹ They say to him, Cesar's. Then saith he to them, Render therefore to Cesar, the things which are Cesar's; and to God, the things that are God's.

¹⁷ And Jesus answering, said to them, Render to Cesar the things that are Cesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they wondered at him.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge ye. ²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

²⁹ Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

⁶ For, for this cause ye pay tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. ⁷ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

³¹ Whether therefore ye eat or drink, or whatever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

¹³ Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether to the king, as supreme; ¹⁴ Or to governors, as to them that are sent by him for the punishment of evil-doers, and for the praise of them that do well. ¹⁵ For so is the will of God, that with well-doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: ¹⁶ As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. ¹⁷ Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

¹¹ If any man speaketh let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man ministereth let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ; to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

²² When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left him, and departed.

³⁴ But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were assembled about him.

¹⁷ And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

³⁹ Then certain of the scribes answering, said, Master, thou hast well said. ⁴⁰ And after that, they durst not ask him any question at all.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

¹⁰ For there are many disorderly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

⁶ Then Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

¹² Then they understood that he did not caution them against the leaven of bread, but against the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

²³ The same day came to him the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, ²⁴ Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man shall die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. ²⁵ Now there were with us seven brothers: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased; and having no issue, left his wife to his brother. ²⁶ Likewise the second also, and the third, to the seventh. ²⁷ And last of all the woman died also. ²⁸ Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. ²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. ³¹ But as concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, ³² I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. ³³ And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

¹⁸ Then come to him the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying, ¹⁹ Master, Moses wrote to us, If a man's brother shall die, and leave his wife, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise seed to his brother. ²⁰ Now there were seven brothers: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed. ²¹ And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise. ²² And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also. ²³ In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her for a wife. ²⁴ And Jesus answering, said to them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? ²⁵ For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels who are in heaven. ²⁶ And concerning the dead that they rise; have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke to him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? ²⁷ He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

¹ And as they were speaking to the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them, ² Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

¹⁷ Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him; (which is the sect of the Sadducees) and were filled with indignation,

⁶ But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men, brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question. ⁷ And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

¹² Now if Christ is preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

¹⁷ And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymeneus and Philetus; ¹⁸ Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

⁸ And Judah said to Onan, Go in to thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

¹¹ Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son shall be grown; (for he said, Lest perhaps he die also as his brethren did:) and Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

²⁶ And Judah acknowledged them, and said She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son: and he knew her again no more.

⁵ If brethren shall dwell together, and one of them shall die and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without to a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her to him for a wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. ⁶ And it shall be, that the first-born which she beareth, shall succeed in the name of his brother who is dead, that his name may not become extinct in Israel. ⁷ And if the man shall not like to take his brother's wife, then let his brother's wife go up to the gate to the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up to his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband's brother. ⁸ Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak to him: and if he shall stand to it, and say, I like not to take her, ⁹ Then shall his brother's wife come to him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done to that man that will not build up his brother's house. ¹⁰ And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.

¹¹ And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? shall I bear more sons, that they may be your husbands? ¹² Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have a husband also to-night, and should also bear sons;

²⁰ And if a man shall lie with his uncle's wife, he hath uncovered his uncle's nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.

³⁰ Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

⁴ One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

⁵ For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

² Nevertheless, to avoid lewdness, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. ³ Let the husband render to the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife to the husband. ⁴ The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. ⁵ Defraud ye not one the other, except with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan may not tempt you for your incontinence. ⁶ But I speak this by permission, and not as a commandment. ⁷ For I would that all men were as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift from God, one after this manner, and another after that. ⁸ I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they remain even as I. ⁹ But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn. ¹⁰ And to the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: ¹¹ But if she shall depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. ¹² But to the rest I speak, not the Lord, if any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she is pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. ¹³ And the woman who hath a husband that believeth not, and if he is pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. ¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. ¹⁵ But if the unbelieving departeth, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases; but God hath called us to peace. ¹⁶ For how knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

³¹ For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

⁴ Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but lewd persons and adulterers God will judge.

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. ³ And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

³² And whoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whoever speaketh against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

²⁴ And Jesus answering, said to them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

³⁶ Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

²⁹ And shall come forth; they that have done good to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of damnation.

⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

¹⁵ And have hope towards God, which they themselves also allow, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

⁵ Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

³⁵ Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

⁴ Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

⁸ He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people will he remove from all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.

¹⁴ I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues, O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from my eyes.

⁷ Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.

³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

²⁵ For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels who are in heaven.

¹⁷ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if we suffer with him, that we may be glorified together. ¹⁸ For I reckon, that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. ¹⁹ For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. ²⁰ For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope: ²¹ Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption, into the glorious liberty of the children of God. ²² For we know that the whole creation groaneth, and travaileth in pain together until now: ²³ And not only they, but ourselves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

²⁶ The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

⁴² So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption:

⁴⁹ And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

⁵² In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. ⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. ⁵⁴ So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

²¹ Who will change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like to his glorious body, according to the working by which he is able even to subdue all things to himself.

¹³ But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them who are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others who have no hope. ¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. ¹⁵ For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain to the coming of the Lord shall not precede them who are asleep. ¹⁶ For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: ¹⁷ Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹ Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. ² Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

⁶ And I beheld, and lo, in the midst of the throne, and of the four living beings, and in the midst of the elders stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. ⁷ And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne. ⁸ And when he had taken the book, the four living beings, and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of saints. ⁹ And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals of it: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and language, and people, and nation; ¹⁰ And hast made us to our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. ¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and the living beings, and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; ¹² Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. ¹³ And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be to him that sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four living beings said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshiped him that liveth for ever and ever.

⁹ After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and languages, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; ¹⁰ And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God who sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb. ¹¹ And all the angels stood around the throne, and about the elders and the four living beings, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshiped God, ¹² Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be to our God for ever and ever. Amen.

⁶ Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

⁴ And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away.

² In the midst of the street of it, and on each side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bore twelve kinds of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. ³ And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: ⁴ And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. ⁵ And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

⁹ Then saith he to me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellow-servant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them who keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and thy seed after thee, in their generations, for an everlasting covenant; to be a God to thee and to thy seed after thee.

¹³ And behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land on which thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.

²¹ So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:

⁹ And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD who saidst to me, Return to thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee;

² And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. ³ And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. ⁴ And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. ⁵ And he said, Approach not hither: put off thy shoes from thy feet, for the place on which thou standest is holy ground. ⁶ Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face: for he was afraid to look upon God.

¹⁵ And God said, moreover, to Moses, Thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me to you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial to all generations.

¹⁶ And for the precious things of the earth and fullness of it, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush; let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.

³ And sent his servants to call them that were invited to the wedding: and they would not come. ⁴ Again, he sent other servants, saying, Tell them who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage. ⁵ But they made light of it, and went, one to his farm, another to his merchandise. ⁶ And the remnant took his servants, and treated them spitefully, and slew them. ⁷ But when the king heard of it, he was wroth: and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. ⁸ Then he saith to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they who were invited were not worthy. ⁹ Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, invite to the marriage. ¹⁰ So those servants went out into the highways, and collected all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. ¹¹ And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who had not a wedding-garment: ¹² And he saith to him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. ¹³ Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into utter darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ¹⁴ For many are called, but few are chosen. ¹⁵ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. ¹⁶ And they sent out to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute to Cesar, or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the tribute-money. And they brought to him a penny. ²⁰ And he saith to them, Whose is this image, and superscription? ²¹ They say to him, Cesar's. Then saith he to them, Render therefore to Cesar, the things which are Cesar's; and to God, the things that are God's. ²² When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left him, and departed.

³⁰ And when forty years had expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina, an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. ³¹ When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight; and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came to him, ³² Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

⁵ The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. ⁶ The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a goodly heritage. ⁷ I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night season. ⁸ I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. ⁹ Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. ¹⁰ For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thy Holy One to see corruption. ¹¹ Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.

²³ (22:22)I will declare thy name to my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee. ²⁴ (22:23)Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. ²⁵ (22:24)For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard. ²⁶ (22:25)My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

¹ David's Psalm of praise. I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. ² Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

⁵⁷ As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: ²⁶ And whoever liveth, and believeth in me, shall never die. Believest thou this?

¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

¹⁰ For in that he died, he died to sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth to God. ¹¹ Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²² But now being made free from sin, and having become servants to God, ye have your fruit to holiness, and the end everlasting life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁷ For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. ⁸ For whether we live, we live to the Lord; and whether we die, we die to the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. ⁹ For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and the living.

¹⁶ And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

⁴ For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God towards you.

³ For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then will ye also appear with him in glory.

¹⁶ But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.

¹⁵ Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne will dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will feed them, and will lead them to living fountains of waters: and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.

¹ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

³⁴ But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were assembled about him. ³⁵ Then one of them who was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, ³⁶ Master, which is the great commandment in the law? ³⁷ Jesus said to him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. ³⁸ This is the first and great commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. ⁴⁰ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

²⁸ And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? ²⁹ And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord. ³⁰ And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. ³¹ And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: there is no other commandment greater than these. ³² And the scribe said to him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is no other but he. ³³ And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices. ³⁴ And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said to him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

⁹ And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees' part arose, and contended, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

⁴⁶ And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man, from that day forth, ask him any more questions.

³⁴ And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said to him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

⁶ For to us a child is born, to us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

¹ And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots: ² And the spirit of the LORD will rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

⁵ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice upon the earth. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell in safety: and this is his name by which he shall be called, JEHOVAH OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

¹⁵ In those days, and at that time, will I cause the branch of righteousness to grow up to David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. ¹⁶ In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell in safety: and this is the name by which she shall be called, JEHOVAH our righteousness.

²¹ Then also may my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.

¹ The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

⁴¹ While the Pharisees were assembled, Jesus asked them, ⁴² Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say to him, The son of David. ⁴³ He saith to them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, ⁴⁴ The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thy enemies thy footstool? ⁴⁵ If David then calleth him Lord, how is he his son?

³⁵ And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? ³⁶ For David himself said by the Holy Spirit, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thy enemies thy footstool. ³⁷ David therefore himself calleth him Lord, and whence is he then his son? and the common people heard him gladly.

³⁸ And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. ³⁹ And they who went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

⁴² Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh from the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

³⁰ Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath, that from the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

³ Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh. ⁴ And declared to be the Son of God, with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

¹⁶ I Jesus have sent my angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning-star.

¹ Now these are the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said, ² The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and his word was on my tongue.

¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool.

²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell in it: and, His bishopric let another take.

³⁴ For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he saith himself, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, ³⁵ Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

³³ God hath fulfilled the same to us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. ³⁴ And as concerning that he raised him from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. ³⁵ Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou wilt not suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.

²⁵ For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

¹³ But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool?

⁷ Wherefore (as the Holy Spirit saith, To-day if ye will hear his voice,

¹ Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, ³ Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. ⁴ He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. ⁵ Then shall he speak to them in his wrath, and trouble them in his sore displeasure. ⁶ Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. ⁷ I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said to me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

⁸ (21:7)For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved. ⁹ (21:8)Thy hand shall find out all thy enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee. ¹⁰ (21:9)Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thy anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them. ¹¹ (21:10)Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men. ¹² (21:11)For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform.

⁹ They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.

⁴ For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself to prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. ⁶ Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin. ⁸ Let his days be few; and let another take his office. ⁹ Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let strangers spoil his labor. ¹² Let there be none to extend mercy to him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out. ¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. ¹⁵ Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth. ¹⁶ Because that he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart. ¹⁷ As he loved cursing, so let it come to him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him. ¹⁸ As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones. ¹⁹ Let it be to him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle with which he is girded continually. ²⁰ Let this be the reward of my adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.

⁵ The Lord at thy right hand will strike through kings in the day of his wrath. ⁶ He will judge among the heathen, he will fill the places with the dead bodies; he will wound the heads over many countries.

¹⁴ And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. ¹⁵ And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. ¹⁶ And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. ¹⁷ And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come, and assemble yourselves to the supper of the great God; ¹⁸ That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. ¹⁹ And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, assembled to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshiped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. ²¹ And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceedeth out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

²³ Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

³¹ And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. ³² He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David. ³³ And he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. ³⁴ Then said Mary to the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? ³⁵ And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Highest will overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

¹¹ For to you is born this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

⁵ Whose are the fathers, and from whom according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

¹⁶ And without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

¹⁰ And he called the multitude, and said to them, Hear, and understand:

¹ Then Jesus spoke to the multitude, and to his disciples, ² Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses's seat.

⁵ But all their works they do to be seen by men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, ⁶ And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, ⁷ And greetings in the markets, and to be called by men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

³⁴ And when he had called the people to him with his disciples also, he said to them, Whoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

³⁸ And he said to them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the market-places, ³⁹ And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

²⁰ Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

¹⁵ And he charged them saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

⁴³ Woe to you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

¹ In the mean time, when there was gathered an innumerable multitude of people, so that they trod one upon another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

⁷ And he put forth a parable to those who were invited, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying to them,

¹⁰ Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;

³ Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. ⁴ Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. ⁵ Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

¹⁵ Of whom be thou aware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words.

⁹ I wrote to the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, receiveth us not.

² To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

⁶ If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt: ⁷ Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever. ⁸ Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit. ⁹ Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; ¹⁰ And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

⁷ In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they oppressed the fatherless and the widow.

³¹ And they come to thee as the people come, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

⁷ That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in to the same maid, to profane my holy name:

⁴ Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail, ⁵ Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit? ⁶ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; and even sell the refuse of the wheat?

² And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

⁸ Even of late my people hath risen up as an enemy: ye pull off the robe with the garment from them that pass by securely as men averse to war.

² Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from them, and their flesh from off their bones;

²² But I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. ²³ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. ²⁴ But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, in the day of judgment, than for thee.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees! hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering, to go in.

²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like whitened sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Thus ye also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

⁴⁰ Who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

¹² But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city. ¹³ Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he that knew not, and committed things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For to whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required: and to whom men have committed much, from him they will ask the more.

⁵ For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:

² For men will be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ Without natural affection, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, ⁴ Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; ⁵ Having a form of godliness, but denying its power: from such turn away. ⁶ For of this sort are they who creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts;

¹⁶ They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and to every good work reprobate.

¹ My brethren, be not many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
