¹ For this cause, I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

¹² But before all these they will lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.

³³ Then the chief captain came near and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains: and inquired who he was, and what he had done.

¹⁸ So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me to him, and prayed me to bring this young man to thee, who hath something to say to thee.

²⁹ And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

¹⁷ And it came to pass, that after three days, Paul called together the chief of the Jews. And when they were assembled, he said to them, Men, brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. ¹⁸ Who when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me. ¹⁹ But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal to Cesar; not that I had aught to accuse my nation of. ²⁰ For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

¹ Now I Paul myself beseech you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold towards you:

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often.

² Behold, I Paul say to you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing.

¹¹ And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then hath the offense of the cross ceased.

¹³ Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

¹ I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation by which ye are called,

²⁰ For which I am an embassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

⁷ Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.

¹³ So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places; ¹⁴ And many of the brethren in the Lord, becoming confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. ¹⁵ Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife; and some also from good will. ¹⁶ The one preach Christ from contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:

²⁴ Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

³ At the same time praying also for us, that God would open to us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

¹⁸ The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen.

¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men: ¹⁶ Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

⁸ Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:

⁹ In which I suffer trouble, as an evil-doer, even to bonds; but the word of God is not bound. ¹⁰ Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

¹ Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellow-laborer,

⁹ Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

²³ There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil will cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful to death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
