⁷ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous ones who have no need of repentance.

¹³ And if he happens to find it, assuredly I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.

³² I have not come to call righteous people to repentance, just sinners.”

¹⁰ Just so, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

²⁹ But in answer he said to the father: ‘Just look at how many years I have been serving you without ever transgressing your commandment; yet you never gave me even a young goat that I might celebrate with my friends.

³² But it was right that we celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and came to life; he was lost and is found.’”

¹⁵ So He said to them: “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. That which is exalted among men is an abomination before God.

⁹ Then He told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised the rest: ¹⁰ “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and started praying to himself like this: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like all the rest—robbers, unjust, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.

⁹ Once upon a time, without law, I was actually ‘alive’; but when the commandment came, the sin came to life and I died.

⁶ with respect to zeal, persecuting the Church; with respect to the righteousness that is in the law, blameless. ⁷ But such things as were gain to me, these I have considered loss for the sake of the Christ.
