¹⁰ But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?

¹² so man lies down and doesn’t rise. Until the heavens are no more, they will not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep. ¹³ “Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time and remember me! ¹⁴ If a man dies, will he live again? I would wait all the days of my warfare, until my release should come. ¹⁵ You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire for the work of your hands.

⁷ yet he will perish forever like his own dung. Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’ ⁸ He will fly away as a dream, and will not be found. Yes, he will be chased away like a vision of the night. ⁹ The eye which saw him will see him no more, neither will his place see him any more.

²³ One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. ²⁴ His pails are full of milk. The marrow of his bones is moistened. ²⁵ Another dies in bitterness of soul, and never tastes of good. ²⁶ They lie down alike in the dust. The worm covers them.

³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, That they are led out to the day of wrath?

²⁴ They are exalted; yet a little while, and they are gone. Yes, they are brought low, they are taken out of the way as all others, and are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.

²³ For I know that you will bring me to death, To the house appointed for all living.

⁹ Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns, he will sweep away the green and the burning alike.

¹⁹ How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one wakes up, so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.

² They will spread them before the sun, the moon, and all the army of the sky, which they have loved, which they have served, after which they have walked, which they have sought, and which they have worshiped. They will not be gathered or be buried. They will be like dung on the surface of the earth.

¹² His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
