¹ “Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine. ² Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted out of the ore. ³ Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness. ⁴ He breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth. ⁵ As for the earth, out of it comes bread. Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire. ⁶ Sapphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold. ⁷ That path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon’s eye seen it. ⁸ The proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there. ⁹ He puts his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots. ¹⁰ He cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing. ¹¹ He binds the streams that they don’t trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings out to light. ¹² “But where will wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man doesn’t know its price; Neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ The deep says, ‘It isn’t in me.’ The sea says, ‘It isn’t with me.’ ¹⁵ It can’t be gotten for gold, neither will silver be weighed for its price. ¹⁶ It can’t be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. ¹⁷ Gold and glass can’t equal it, neither will it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention will be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies. ¹⁹ The topaz of Ethiopia will not equal it, nor will it be valued with pure gold. ²⁰ Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky. ²² Destruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’ ²³ “God understands its way, and he knows its place. ²⁴ For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky. ²⁵ He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure. ²⁶ When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder, ²⁷ then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out. ²⁸ To man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”

¹¹ The name of the first is Pishon: it flows through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; ¹² and the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and onyx stone are also there.

¹⁵ “My lord, listen to me. What is a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver between me and you? Therefore bury your dead.”

²² As the camels had done drinking, the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold,

⁴⁸ Solomon made all the vessels that were in Yahweh’s house: the golden altar and the table that the show bread was on, of gold; ⁴⁹ and the lamp stands, five on the right side, and five on the left, before the inner sanctuary, of pure gold; and the flowers, the lamps, and the tongs, of gold; ⁵⁰ the cups, the snuffers, the basins, the spoons, and the fire pans, of pure gold; and the hinges, both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, of the temple, of gold.

²¹ All king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. None were of silver, because it was considered of little value in the days of Solomon.

² Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, the bronze for the things of bronze, iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood; also onyx stones, stones to be set, stones for inlaid work, of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance. ³ In addition, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, since I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, I give it to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, ⁴ even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, with which to overlay the walls of the houses; ⁵ of gold for the things of gold, and of silver for the things of silver, and for all kinds of work to be made by the hands of artisans. Who then offers willingly to consecrate himself today to Yahweh?”

⁶ Yahweh’s words are flawless words, as silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times.

³ The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Yahweh tests the hearts.

²¹ The crucible is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but man is refined by his praise.

¹⁰ Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver. I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.

⁹ I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will test them like gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say, ‘It is my people;’ and they will say, ‘Yahweh is my God.’”

² “But who can endure the day of his coming? And who will stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like launderers’ soap; ³ and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer to Yahweh offerings in righteousness.

⁷ that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

²² Zillah also gave birth to Tubal Cain, the forger of every cutting instrument of bronze and iron. Tubal Cain’s sister was Naamah.

²² However the gold, and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

⁹ a land in which you shall eat bread without scarcity, you shall not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper.

¹⁴ Now, behold, in my affliction I have prepared for Yahweh’s house one hundred thousand talents of gold, one million talents of silver, and bronze and iron without weight; for it is in abundance. I have also prepared timber and stone; and you may add to them.

²¹ before I go where I will not return from, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death; ²² the land dark as midnight, of the shadow of death, without any order, where the light is as midnight.’”

²² He uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death.

¹⁶ “Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the recesses of the deep? ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?

⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures:

¹³ I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under the sky. It is a heavy burden that God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with.

¹³ Behold, isn’t it of Yahweh of Armies that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?

³³ But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.

⁸ “His lord commended the dishonest manager because he had done wisely, for the children of this world are, in their own generation, wiser than the children of the light.

¹¹ God said, “Let the earth yield grass, herbs yielding seeds, and fruit trees bearing fruit after their kind, with their seeds in it, on the earth;” and it was so. ¹² The earth yielded grass, herbs yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, with their seeds in it, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.

²⁹ God said, “Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree, which bears fruit yielding seed. It will be your food.

¹⁴ He causes the grass to grow for the livestock, and plants for man to cultivate, that he may produce food out of the earth: ¹⁵ wine that makes the heart of man glad, oil to make his face to shine, and bread that strengthens man’s heart.

²⁵ When he has leveled its surface, doesn’t he plant the dill, and scatter the cumin seed, and put in the wheat in rows, the barley in the appointed place, and the spelt in its place? ²⁶ For his God instructs him in right judgment and teaches him. ²⁷ For the dill are not threshed with a sharp instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned over the cumin; but the dill is beaten out with a stick, and the cumin with a rod. ²⁸ Bread flour must be ground; so he will not always be threshing it. Although he drives the wheel of his threshing cart over it, his horses don’t grind it. ²⁹ This also comes out from Yahweh of Armies, who is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in wisdom.

¹³ You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz, emerald, chrysolite, onyx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and beryl. Gold work of tambourines and of pipes was in you. They were prepared in the day that you were created. ¹⁴ You were the anointed cherub who covers. Then I set you up on the holy mountain of God. You have walked up and down in the middle of the stones of fire.

¹⁰ They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was like a paved work of sapphire stone, like the skies for clearness.

¹⁶ It can’t be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

¹⁴ His hands are like rings of gold set with beryl. His body is like ivory work overlaid with sapphires.

¹¹ “You afflicted, tossed with storms, and not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in beautiful colors, and lay your foundations with sapphires.

¹⁹ “What is the way to the dwelling of light? As for darkness, where is its place,

²⁴ By what way is the lightning distributed, or the east wind scattered on the earth?

³³ Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out!

⁴ He rebukes the sea, and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers. Bashan languishes, and Carmel; and the flower of Lebanon languishes. ⁵ The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, yes, the world, and all who dwell in it. ⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the fierceness of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken apart by him.

²³ In all hard work there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.

⁴ by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure.

⁹ You uncovered your bow. You called for your sworn arrows. Selah. You split the earth with rivers.

⁸ He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not burst under them.

²⁵ I have dug and drunk water, and with the sole of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt.”

²⁷ who says to the deep, ‘Be dry,’ and ‘I will dry up your rivers;’

² “I will go before you and make the rough places smooth. I will break the doors of bronze in pieces and cut apart the bars of iron. ³ I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that it is I, Yahweh, who calls you by your name, even the God of Israel.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each man will get his praise from God.

⁹ Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”

²⁰ Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding?

²⁸ To man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”

⁶ Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts. You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.

⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures: ⁵ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

¹⁹ By wisdom Yahweh founded the earth. By understanding, he established the heavens.

²³ All this I have proved in wisdom. I said, “I will be wise;” but it was far from me. ²⁴ That which is, is far off and exceedingly deep. Who can find it out? ²⁵ I turned around, and my heart sought to know and to search out, and to seek wisdom and the scheme of things, and to know that wickedness is stupidity, and that foolishness is madness.

¹⁹ For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise. I will bring the discernment of the discerning to nothing.” ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Hasn’t God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

³ in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.

⁵ But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

⁵ God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁷² The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.

¹⁴ For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her.

¹¹ For wisdom is better than rubies. All the things that may be desired can’t be compared to it.

¹⁸ With me are riches, honor, enduring wealth, and prosperity. ¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, my yield than choice silver.

¹⁶ How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

²³ Buy the truth, and don’t sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.

¹⁶ When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done on the earth (even though eyes see no sleep day or night), ¹⁷ then I saw all the work of God, that man can’t find out the work that is done under the sun, because however much a man labors to seek it out, yet he won’t find it. Yes even though a wise man thinks he can comprehend it, he won’t be able to find it.

¹¹ I said, “I won’t see Yah, Yah in the land of the living. I will see man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

⁸ He was taken away by oppression and judgment. As for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living and stricken for the disobedience of my people?

⁴⁴ “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field. ⁴⁵ “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls, ⁴⁶ who having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

³³ Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out! ³⁴ “For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?”

¹³ Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding.

¹⁰ Receive my instruction rather than silver, knowledge rather than choice gold. ¹¹ For wisdom is better than rubies. All the things that may be desired can’t be compared to it.

¹⁷ I love those who love me. Those who seek me diligently will find me.

¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, my yield than choice silver.

²⁰ and the fourth row a chrysolite, an onyx, and a jasper. They shall be enclosed in gold in their settings.

⁴ even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, with which to overlay the walls of the houses;

⁹ Kings’ daughters are among your honorable women. At your right hand the queen stands in gold of Ophir.

¹² I will make people more rare than fine gold, even a person than the pure gold of Ophir.

For had they known it, they wouldn’t have crucified the Lord of glory. ⁹ But as it is written, “Things which an eye didn’t see, and an ear didn’t hear, which didn’t enter into the heart of man, these God has prepared for those who love him.” ¹⁰ But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. ¹¹ For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God, except God’s Spirit. ¹² But we received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might know the things that were freely given to us by God. ¹³ We also speak these things, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. ¹⁴ Now the natural man doesn’t receive the things of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to him, and he can’t know them, because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵ But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is judged by no one.

³ My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart will utter understanding. ⁴ I will incline my ear to a proverb. I will solve my riddle on the harp.

²⁵ At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.

¹⁷ For most certainly I tell you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which you see, and didn’t see them; and to hear the things which you hear, and didn’t hear them.

³⁵ that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”

⁷ Yahweh’s law is perfect, restoring the soul. Yahweh’s covenant is sure, making wise the simple.

⁵ Great is our Lord, and mighty in power. His understanding is infinite.

¹⁴ Counsel and sound knowledge are mine. I have understanding and power.

²² “Yahweh possessed me in the beginning of his work, before his deeds of old. ²³ I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, before the earth existed. ²⁴ When there were no depths, I was born, when there were no springs abounding with water. ²⁵ Before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was born; ²⁶ while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the beginning of the dust of the world. ²⁷ When he established the heavens, I was there. When he set a circle on the surface of the deep, ²⁸ when he established the clouds above, when the springs of the deep became strong, ²⁹ when he gave to the sea its boundary, that the waters should not violate his commandment, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, ³⁰ then I was the craftsman by his side. I was a delight day by day, always rejoicing before him, ³¹ rejoicing in his whole world. My delight was with the sons of men.

²⁷ All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.

²¹ In that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.” ²² Turning to the disciples, he said, “All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son desires to reveal him.”

¹⁸ “All of God’s works are known to him from eternity.

³⁰ Because of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:

²⁵ to God our Savior, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.

⁹ For Yahweh’s eyes run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. You have done foolishly in this; for from now on you will have wars.”

¹³ Yahweh looks from heaven. He sees all the sons of men. ¹⁴ From the place of his habitation he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,

³ Yahweh’s eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

¹⁰ Indeed, who despises the day of small things? For these seven shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. These are Yahweh’s eyes, which run back and forth through the whole earth.”

⁶ I saw in the middle of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the middle of the elders, a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.

¹⁵ Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up. Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth.

⁷ He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightnings with the rain. He brings the wind out of his treasuries.

¹² Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and marked off the sky with his span, and calculated the dust of the earth in a measuring basket, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

²⁶ Behold, God is great, and we don’t know him. The number of his years is unsearchable.

³² He covers his hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark.

³ He sends it out under the whole sky, and his lightning to the ends of the earth.

¹¹ Yes, he loads the thick cloud with moisture. He spreads abroad the cloud of his lightning.

²⁵ Who has cut a channel for the flood water, or the path for the thunder storm,

²⁷ to satisfy the waste and desolate ground, to cause the tender grass to grow?

³ Yahweh’s voice is on the waters. The God of glory thunders, even Yahweh on many waters. ⁴ Yahweh’s voice is powerful. Yahweh’s voice is full of majesty. ⁵ Yahweh’s voice breaks the cedars. Yes, Yahweh breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. ⁶ He makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young, wild ox. ⁷ Yahweh’s voice strikes with flashes of lightning. ⁸ Yahweh’s voice shakes the wilderness. Yahweh shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. ⁹ Yahweh’s voice makes the deer calve, and strips the forests bare. In his temple everything says, “Glory!” ¹⁰ Yahweh sat enthroned at the Flood. Yes, Yahweh sits as King forever.

⁸ lightning and hail, snow and clouds; stormy wind, fulfilling his word;

²² Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, Yahweh our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.

⁷ “I also have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One field was rained on, and the field where it didn’t rain withered.

¹ Ask of Yahweh rain in the spring time, Yahweh who makes storm clouds, and he gives rain showers to everyone for the plants in the field.

²² “Yahweh possessed me in the beginning of his work, before his deeds of old. ²³ I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, before the earth existed. ²⁴ When there were no depths, I was born, when there were no springs abounding with water. ²⁵ Before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was born; ²⁶ while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the beginning of the dust of the world. ²⁷ When he established the heavens, I was there. When he set a circle on the surface of the deep, ²⁸ when he established the clouds above, when the springs of the deep became strong, ²⁹ when he gave to the sea its boundary, that the waters should not violate his commandment, when he marked out the foundations of the earth,

⁶ Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who shall hear all these statutes and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”

²⁹ The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

¹⁴ Depart from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it.

¹⁰ The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. All those who do his work have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

⁷ The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

⁷ Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil.

⁴ “I call to you men! I send my voice to the sons of mankind. ⁵ You simple, understand prudence! You fools, be of an understanding heart!

²⁶ while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the beginning of the dust of the world. ²⁷ When he established the heavens, I was there. When he set a circle on the surface of the deep, ²⁸ when he established the clouds above, when the springs of the deep became strong, ²⁹ when he gave to the sea its boundary, that the waters should not violate his commandment, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, ³⁰ then I was the craftsman by his side. I was a delight day by day, always rejoicing before him, ³¹ rejoicing in his whole world. My delight was with the sons of men. ³² “Now therefore, my sons, listen to me, for blessed are those who keep my ways.

¹⁰ The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

¹⁴ The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death.

¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

¹³ This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.

¹⁶ Wash yourselves. Make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil.

¹⁹ However God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.”

¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. ¹⁶ For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

¹¹ Let him turn away from evil and do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it.
