³ For the wicked one boasts about his own desire; he blesses the greedy and despises the LORD.

⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my soul shall be filled with them; I will draw my sword; my hand will destroy them.

³⁰ I will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and cast your dead bodies upon the bodies of your idols; and my soul will abhor you.

¹⁹ because when such a person hears the words of this oath, he will bless himself and say: 'I will have a peaceful life, even though I'm determined to be stubborn.' By doing this he will be sweeping away both watered and parched ground alike.'

¹⁹ The LORD saw it and became jealous, provoked by his sons and daughters.

²¹ Saul answered: "May the LORD bless you for being so kind to me!

²⁴ "If I've put my confidence in gold, if I've said to gold, 'You're my security,'

⁶ You destroy speakers of lies. A man of bloodshed and deceit the LORD abhors.

²¹ They open their mouths against me and say: Aha! Aha! Our own eyes have seen it.

⁶ those who put confidence in their wealth and boast about their great riches?

¹¹ Their tombs are their homes forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves. ¹² But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure. He is like the animals that perish. ¹³ This is the destiny of those who are foolish, and of those who approve their sayings. Selah.

¹⁸ Though while he lived he blessed his soul-- and men praise you when you do well for yourself--

¹ For the music director. A maskil of David. When Doeg the Edomite came and informed Saul. And he said to him, "David has come to the house of Ahimelech." Why do you boast about evil, O mighty man? The loyal love of God endures ⌊continually⌋.

⁸ They scoff and speak with malice; in arrogance, they threaten oppression. ⁹ They set their mouth against heaven; and their tongue passed on over the earth.

⁴ They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers boast.

⁴ Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive with them.

⁷ But this is not what is in his mind, and this is not his design; but his purpose is destruction, and the cutting off of more and more nations. ⁸ For he says, Are not my commanders all like kings? ⁹ Is not, Calno, like Carchemish? Is not, Hamath, like Arpad? Is not, Samaria, like Damascus? ¹⁰ As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, whose graven images excelled those of Jerusalem and of Samaria, ¹¹ shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols as I have done to Samaria and her idols?

²³ "Who is it you have insulted and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? It is against the Holy One of Israel!

¹⁷ For I was angry and struck him for the iniquity of his gain; I hid Myself and was angry; yet he went, turning in his heart's way.

¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not, Except on your dishonest gain, And on shedding of innocent blood, And on oppression, and on doing of violence."

⁷ A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud. ⁸ Ephraim said, "Surely I have become rich, I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won't find in me any iniquity that is sin."

¹⁰ Am I to let the stores of the evil-doer go out of my memory, and the short measure, which is cursed? ¹¹ Shall I be pure with dishonest scales, and with a bag of deceitful weights? ¹² Her rich people are filled with violence, and her inhabitants tell lies their tongues speak deceitfully!

⁹ Woe to him who robs evil booty for his house, to set his nest on high, to be delivered from the hand of evil!

⁵ Their buyers slaughter them, and go unpunished. Those who sell them say, 'Blessed be the LORD, for I am rich;' and their own shepherds do not pity them. ⁶ For I will have no more pity for the people of the land, says the Lord; but I will give up everyone into his neighbour's hand and into the hand of his king: and they will make the land waste, and I will not keep them safe from their hands. ⁷ So I became shepherd of the flock marked for slaughter, paying attention to the oppressed of the flock. I took two staffs naming one "Pleasant" and the other one "Union" and then I pastured the flock. ⁸ In a single month I got rid of three shepherds because I grew tired of them, and they despised me.

¹⁵ and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?” And they set out for him thirty pieces of silver. ¹⁶ From then on he kept looking for an opportunity to betray Him.

¹⁵ And He said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourselves against every form of greed, for a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

¹⁹ Then I will say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take it easy. Eat, drink, and be merry!”’

¹⁴ The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all of this and were scoffing at Jesus. ¹⁵ So He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is prized among men is detestable before God.

²⁹ They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and hatred. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips,

³² Though they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

⁵ For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure, or greedy person (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

⁵ Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire and greed, which is idolatry.

⁹ But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

² People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, ³ unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, ⁴ Treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God;

¹³ Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.”

¹⁶ As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

¹⁵ Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
