² In arrogance, the wicked hunt down the weak. They are caught in the schemes that they devise.

¹² For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride, for the curses and lies which they utter.

⁵ Oh that my ways were steadfast to obey your statutes!

⁶⁹ The arrogant smear me with lies; I keep your precepts with my whole heart.

⁸⁵ The proud have dug pits for me, contrary to your law.

¹²² Ensure your servant's well-being. Don't let the proud oppress me.

⁵ The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah.

²² The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly.

¹² And this shall happen: when the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, "I will punish the arrogance of the king of Assyria and his haughtiness." ¹³ For he has said, “By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I have understanding. I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures. Like a valiant man I have brought down their rulers.

¹³ You said in your heart, "I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mountain of assembly, in the far north.

¹⁶ Those who see you will stare at you. They will ponder you, saying, "Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms;

² Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the arrogant (egotistical) men said to Jeremiah: "You are telling a lie! the LORD our God has not sent you to say: 'You are not to enter Egypt to reside there."
