⁶ the LORD works righteousness and judgments for all the oppressed.

¹⁴ "Don't take advantage of a hired person who is poor and needy, whether he's your fellow citizen or a foreigner who lives in your city. ¹⁵ Pay his wages that same day before the sun sets, because he is poor and his livelihood depends on it. Otherwise, he may cry out to the LORD against you, and you will incur guilt."

¹³ "Here is the fate God accords the wicked. This is the heritage a ruthless man receives from the Almighty: ¹⁴ "No mater how many his children, their fate is the sword. His offspring will never have enough to eat. ¹⁵ "The plague will bury those who survive him. Their widows will not weep for them. ¹⁶ "Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay, ¹⁷ what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver. ¹⁸ "The house he builds is like a moth's cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman. ¹⁹ He lieth down rich, but will do so no more; he openeth his eyes, and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest snatches him away in the night. ²¹ "The east wind carries him off. He is gone and it sweeps him out of his place. ²² "It hurls itself against him without mercy as he flees headlong from its power. ²³ It claps its hands over him, and it hisses at him from its place.

⁹ the LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a place of safety in times of trouble.

¹⁴ But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless. ¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked and evil one; search out his wickedness until You find none. ¹⁶ The LORD is king forever and ever; nations will perish from his land. ¹⁷ LORD, you heard the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen them, you will listen carefully, ¹⁸ to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may terrify no more.

⁵ Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise, says the LORD; I will set him in safety from those who malign him.

⁴ May he defend the afflicted of the people and deliver the children of the poor, but crush the oppressor.

¹² For he will deliver the needy who crieth, and the afflicted, who hath no helper;

³¹ for he stands at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those judging his life.

⁷ He executes justice for the oppressed. He gives food to the hungry. the LORD sets the prisoners free.

³¹ He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

²² Do not exploit the poor, because he is poor; and do not crush the needy in court; ²³ for the LORD will plead their cause, and strip the soul of those who plunder them.

¹⁰ Do not move the ancient boundary stone. Do not encroach on the fields of the fatherless:

⁴ that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, "How the oppressor has ceased. How the attacker has ceased." ⁵ The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers, ⁶ He whose rod was on the peoples with an unending wrath, ruling the nations in passion, with an uncontrolled rule. ⁷ All the earth is at rest and is quiet; they break out into singing. ⁸ the trees of Lebanon also rejoice against you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, From the time that you have been laid low, no one has come up to cut us down. ⁹ Hell from below is moved for you, to meet you at your coming. It stirs up the dead for you, all the he-goats of the earth. It has raised from their thrones all the kings of the nations. ¹⁰ They will all answer and say to you, Have you also become weak as we? Have you become like us? ¹¹ "'Your pride has been brought down to the grave along with the music of your harps. Maggots are spread out like a bed under you, and worms cover you.' ¹² How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn. How you are cut down to the ground, who laid the nations low. ¹³ You said in your heart, "I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mountain of assembly, in the far north. ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds. I will make myself like the Most High." ¹⁵ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the pit. ¹⁶ Those who see you will stare at you. They will ponder you, saying, "Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms; ¹⁷ who made the world like a desert and tore down its cities and did not let his prisoners go home?' ¹⁸ All the kings of the nations sleep in glory, each one in his own house. ¹⁹ But you are thrown from your grave like a despised branch, like the covering of the slain, those pierced by the sword, those who go down into the stones of the Pit, like a dead body trampled under foot. ²⁰ You will not join them in burial, because you have destroyed your land. You have killed your people. The offspring of evildoers will not be mentioned forever. ²¹ prepare thy sons for slaughter, for the sins of their fathers; that they may not rise and possess the land, and fill the World with wars. ²² For I will rise up against them, says the LORD Almighty, and cut off from Babylon the name and remnant, and son, and grandson, says the LORD. ²³ "And I will make her a possession of the hedgehog, and pools of water, and I will sweep her away with the broom of destruction," declares the LORD Almighty. ²⁴ the LORD Almighty has sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so it shall come to pass; and as I have purposed, it shall stand; ²⁵ To break Assur in my land, and upon my mountain I will tread him down: and his yoke was removed from off them, and his burden shall remove from off their shoulder. ²⁶ This is the plan that is determined for the whole earth. This is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations. ²⁷ For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who shall reverse it? And His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? ²⁸ This burden was in the year king Ahaz died: ²⁹ You must not rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken, for a viper will come forth from the root of the snake, and its fruit will be a flying serpent. ³⁰ The firstborn of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant will be killed. ³¹ Wail, gate! Cry, city! Melt, Philistia, all of you! For smoke is coming from the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks. ³² What will they say to the kings of the nation? That the LORD has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people will take refuge.

⁶ Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke ⁷ "Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house? When you see the naked, should you cover him and not hide yourself from your own flesh?

⁶ if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your own hurt: ⁷ then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your ancestors forever and ever. ⁸ "Look, you're trusting in deceptive words that cannot benefit. ⁹ Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations? ¹¹ "Has this house, called by my name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Behold, I, even I, have seen it," declares the LORD. ¹² "But go to my place in Shiloh, where I made my name dwell from the beginning, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel. ¹³ Now, because you have done all these things," declares the LORD, "I spoke to you over and over again, but you didn't listen. I called to you, but you didn't answer. ¹⁴ Just as I did to Shiloh, I'll do to the house in which you trust and which is called by my name, the place that I gave to you and your ancestors. ¹⁵ And I will drive you from my presence, as I have driven out your brethren, the whole seed of Ephraim.

⁷ In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow.

¹² They take a bribe among you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD. ¹³ And behold, I have struck My palm against your unjust gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst. ¹⁴ Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I will deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken it and will do it.

¹ Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand. ² They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and they take them away. They oppress a man and his house; a man and his inheritance. ³ Therefore, thus says the LORD: Look! I am planning disaster against this family from which you will not be able to remove your necks. You will not walk proudly, for it is a time of disaster.

² you who despise good and love evil, who tear off the skin of my people, along with the flesh from their bones. ³ Who eat the flesh of my people? They strip their skin and they break their bones; and spread them as for the caldron and as flesh within the caldron. ⁴ "They will cry to the LORD but he will not answer them. In fact, he will hide his face from them at that time because they have done evil things."

⁶ But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you? Is it not they who drag you into court?

¹ Come on now, you rich people, cry and wail over the miseries that are coming upon you. ² Your wealth has rotted and moths have eaten your clothing. ³ Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. You have hoarded treasure in the last days. ⁴ Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. ⁵ You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter. ⁶ You have condemned and murdered the just; he does not resist you.
