4 that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, "How the oppressor has ceased. How the attacker has ceased." 5 The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers, 6 He whose rod was on the peoples with an unending wrath, ruling the nations in passion, with an uncontrolled rule. 7 All the earth is at rest and is quiet; they break out into singing. 8 the trees of Lebanon also rejoice against you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, From the time that you have been laid low, no one has come up to cut us down. 9 Hell from below is moved for you, to meet you at your coming. It stirs up the dead for you, all the he-goats of the earth. It has raised from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 They will all answer and say to you, Have you also become weak as we? Have you become like us? 11 "'Your pride has been brought down to the grave along with the music of your harps. Maggots are spread out like a bed under you, and worms cover you.' 12 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn. How you are cut down to the ground, who laid the nations low. 13 You said in your heart, "I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mountain of assembly, in the far north. 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds. I will make myself like the Most High." 15 But you are brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the pit. 16 Those who see you will stare at you. They will ponder you, saying, "Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms; 17 who made the world like a desert and tore down its cities and did not let his prisoners go home?' 18 All the kings of the nations sleep in glory, each one in his own house. 19 But you are thrown from your grave like a despised branch, like the covering of the slain, those pierced by the sword, those who go down into the stones of the Pit, like a dead body trampled under foot. 20 You will not join them in burial, because you have destroyed your land. You have killed your people. The offspring of evildoers will not be mentioned forever. 21 prepare thy sons for slaughter, for the sins of their fathers; that they may not rise and possess the land, and fill the World with wars. 22 For I will rise up against them, says the LORD Almighty, and cut off from Babylon the name and remnant, and son, and grandson, says the LORD. 23 "And I will make her a possession of the hedgehog, and pools of water, and I will sweep her away with the broom of destruction," declares the LORD Almighty. 24 the LORD Almighty has sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so it shall come to pass; and as I have purposed, it shall stand; 25 To break Assur in my land, and upon my mountain I will tread him down: and his yoke was removed from off them, and his burden shall remove from off their shoulder. 26 This is the plan that is determined for the whole earth. This is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations. 27 For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who shall reverse it? And His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? 28 This burden was in the year king Ahaz died: 29 You must not rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken, for a viper will come forth from the root of the snake, and its fruit will be a flying serpent. 30 The firstborn of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant will be killed. 31 Wail, gate! Cry, city! Melt, Philistia, all of you! For smoke is coming from the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks. 32 What will they say to the kings of the nation? That the LORD has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people will take refuge.

When you see the naked, should you cover him and not hide yourself from your own flesh?

Behold, I, even I, have seen it," declares the LORD. 12 "But go to my place in Shiloh, where I made my name dwell from the beginning, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel. 13 Now, because you have done all these things," declares the LORD, "I spoke to you over and over again, but you didn't listen. I called to you, but you didn't answer. 14 Just as I did to Shiloh, I'll do to the house in which you trust and which is called by my name, the place that I gave to you and your ancestors. 15 And I will drive you from my presence, as I have driven out your brethren, the whole seed of Ephraim.

I, the LORD, have spoken it and will do it.

You will not walk proudly, for it is a time of disaster.

They strip their skin and they break their bones; and spread them as for the caldron and as flesh within the caldron. 4 "They will cry to the LORD but he will not answer them. In fact, he will hide his face from them at that time because they have done evil things."

Their corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. You have hoarded treasure in the last days. 4 Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and murdered the just; he does not resist you.
