He turns it wherever he will. ² Every way of a man seemeth right to himself: but the Lord weigheth the hearts. ³ To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. ⁴ Lofty eyes, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin. ⁵ The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty. ⁶ A fortune gained by deceit is a fleeting vapor and a deadly snare. ⁷ The violence of the wicked will drive them away, because they refuse to do what is right. ⁸ The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright. ⁹ It's better to live in a corner on the roof than to share a house with a contentious woman. ¹⁰ The wicked person desires evil. His neighbor finds no favor in his eyes. ¹¹ When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge. ¹² The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin. ¹³ Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he also will cry, but will not be heard. ¹⁴ A gift in secret pacifies anger, and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath. ¹⁵ To do justice is joy to the righteous, But ruin to workers of iniquity. ¹⁶ The man who strays from the way of intelligence Comes to rest in the assembly of the Rephaim. ¹⁷ He who loves pleasure will be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil will not be rich. ¹⁸ The wicked are a ransom for the righteous and the unfaithful for the upright. ¹⁹ Better to dwell in a desert land, than with a woman, quarrelsome and provoking. ²⁰ Precious treasures and oil are found where the wise live, but a foolish man devours them. ²¹ He who pursues righteousness and love find life, prosperity and honor. ²² A wise man attacks the city of the mighty, and pulls down the stronghold in which they trust. ²³ He who guards his mouth and his tongue Keeps his soul from distresses. ²⁴ "Proud and haughty mocker" is his name. He acts with overbearing pride. ²⁵ What the lazy person craves will kill him, because his hands refuse to work. ²⁶ All day he craves a craving, but the righteous will give and not hold back. ²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is hateful, how much more when he brings it with an evil intent! ²⁸ A false witness will perish, but whoever listens will testify successfully. ²⁹ The wicked man puts up a bold appearance, but the upright thinks about what he is doing. ³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD. ³¹ The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with the LORD.

²² They joyfully kept the feast of unleavened bread for seven days. the LORD filled them with joy by turning the heart of the king of Assyria to them to give them help in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.

²⁷ Blessed be the LORD, the God of our fathers, who has put this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. ²⁸ and who extended to me loyal love before the king and his counselors, and before all of the mighty officials of the king. I took courage, for the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered leaders from Israel to go up with me.

¹¹ O Lord, please let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight to revere in your name. Please, let your servant be successful this day and give him compassion before this man." I was cupbearer for the king.

⁴ The king answered, "What do you want?" So I prayed to the God of heaven

¹⁵ You opened up spring and stream. You dried up mighty rivers.

⁴ Mightier than the rumblings of many waters, mightier than the mighty breakers of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty.

²⁵ He turned their heart to hate his people, to conspire against his servants.

⁴⁶ He also made them to be pitied by all those who carried them captive.

³ The sea looked and fled; the Jordan turned back;

⁵ What was it, you sea, that you fled? You Jordan, that you turned back?

¹ To mortals belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the answer of the tongue.

⁹ A man's heart plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.

²⁴ A man's steps are directed by the LORD; how then can anyone understand his own way?

¹⁹ Look! I am about to do a new thing! Now it sprouts! Do you not perceive it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.

²⁷ who says to the deep, 'Be dry,' and 'I will dry up your rivers;'

³⁵ And all the people of the earth are as nothing: he does his pleasure in the army of heaven and among the people of the earth: and no one is able to keep back his hand, or say to him, What are you doing?

¹⁰ and rescued him from all his troubles. He granted Joseph favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, who appointed him ruler over Egypt and all his household.

⁴ The third angel poured out his bowl upon the rivers and the springs of water, and they became blood.

¹² The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the East.

⁷ But the LORD said to Samuel, Don't look at his appearance or height, because I have rejected him. I do not look at the things man looks at; man looks at the outward appearance but the LORD looks at the heart.

² For he flatters himself in his own eyes, too much to detect and hate his sin.

² All the ways of a man are open to his eyes: the Lord is the weigher of spirits.

²⁵ There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

⁶ Many a man proclaims, each one, his kindness, Yet a faithful man who can find?

¹² if you say, "Look, we do not know this," does not he who weighs hearts perceive it? And he who keeps your soul, he knows and will repay humankind according to his deeds.

¹² A generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.

¹⁰ "I, the LORD, search the heart and examine the mind (inner man). I give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.

¹⁵ So He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is prized among men is detestable before God.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ¹² I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all that I get.'

²⁴ But Jesus did not entrust Himself to them, for He knew all men. ²⁵ He did not need any testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man.

³ If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

²² Obey the message; do not merely listen to it, and deceive yourselves.

²³ Then I will strike her children dead, and all the churches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

²² And Samuel said, Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice! To listen is better than the fat of rams!

⁸ I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices. Your burnt offerings are continually before me.

⁸ The LORD abhorreth the sacrifice of the ungodly; but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable to him.

¹¹ What is the abundance of your sacrifices to me? says the LORD. I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals and I do not delight in the blood of bulls and ram-lambs and goats. ¹² When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth; they are become a burden unto me; I am weary to bear them, ¹⁵ "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you. Even though you offer many prayers, I will not listen because your hands are full of blood. ¹⁶ "Wash yourselves! Become clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight. Stop doing evil. ¹⁷ Learn to do well—Seek justice, Correct the oppressor,—Vindicate the fatherless, Plead the cause of the widow,

²¹ Thus says the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, "Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. ²² But when I brought your fathers out of Egypt, I spake no word unto them of burnt offerings and sacrifices: ²³ but I did give them this command: Obey me and I'll be your God, and you will be my people. Walk in all the ways that I command you so it will go well for you.

⁶ For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt-offerings.

⁶ With what shall I come before the LORD and bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? ⁷ Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? ⁸ He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

³³ To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices."

⁴ The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek. All his thoughts are "There is no God."

¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood;

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil. I hate: pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is hateful, how much more when he brings it with an evil intent!

¹³ A generation, whose eyes are lofty, and their eyelids lifted up on high.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the pride of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

¹⁷ And every man shall be brought low, and the pride of men shall fall: and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.

¹⁶ Moreover LORD said, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with outstretched necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet,

¹⁴ I tell you, this man, rather than the Pharisee, went home justified. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

²³ But the one who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that is not from faith is sin.

⁵ Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

⁴ Lazy hands bring poverty, but hard-working hands lead to wealth.

⁴ The lazy person craves, yet receives nothing, but the desires of the diligent are satisfied.

²⁹ He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.

²¹ An inheritance quickly obtained at the beginning will not be blessed at the end.

²³ Keep well informed of the condition of your flocks and pay attention to your herds, ²⁴ Riches are not forever: and a crown does not endure for every generation. ²⁵ The hay is removed, and the new growth appears, the grasses of the hills are gathered in. ²⁶ The lambs will be for thy clothing, and the goats the price for a field. ²⁷ There will be plenty of goats' milk for your food, for your family's food, and for the nourishment of your servant girls.

²² A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn't know that poverty waits for him.

²⁸ He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing good with his own hands, that he may have something to share with the one in need.

¹¹ Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, ¹² so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anyone.

³⁶ "But he who sins against me wrongs himself. All who hate me love death."

² Treasures of wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death.

¹¹ Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow.

¹⁴ "It's no good, it's no good," says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.

⁸ He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

⁸ vanity and words of lies, remove far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches; tear my statute bread for me;

¹¹ Like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay is one who amasses wealth without justice. In the middle of his days it will leave him, and at his end he will prove to be a fool."

³¹ Cast away from you all your sins by which you have sinned; and make you a new heart and a new spirit; for why will you die, O house of Israel?

⁹ But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

¹¹ They must be silenced, for such men upset whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach, for the sake of dishonest gain.

³ And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from long ago their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep.

¹⁶ His trouble comes back on his head, and his violence comes down on his skull.

¹⁶ the LORD is known [by] the judgment he hath executed: the wicked is ensnared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.

¹⁸ but these people lie in wait for their own blood. They ambush only themselves. ¹⁹ Such is the way of all those who seek illicit gain it takes away the lives of those who possess it.

⁶ Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

²¹ He who pursues righteousness and love find life, prosperity and honor.

²² Do not exploit the poor, because he is poor; and do not crush the needy in court; ²³ for the LORD will plead their cause, and strip the soul of those who plunder them.

²³ Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves. Every one loves a bribe and runs after gifts. They do not defend the orphan and the legal dispute of the widow does not come before them. ²⁴ Therefore the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, says: "Ah, I will get relief from my adversaries, and avenge myself of my enemies;

⁹ Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations? ¹¹ "Has this house, called by my name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Behold, I, even I, have seen it," declares the LORD.

¹⁵ And I will drive you from my presence, as I have driven out your brethren, the whole seed of Ephraim.

¹⁸ ‘»As for his father, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother and did what was not good among his people, he will die for his iniquity.

¹³ And behold, I have struck My palm against your unjust gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst. ¹⁴ Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I will deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken it and will do it.

⁹ Hear this, O rulers of the house of Jacob and leaders of the house of Israel, those detesting justice and perverting all that is right, ¹⁰ he who builds Zion with blood and Jerusalem with wickedness. ¹¹ Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on the LORD, and say, “Isn’t the LORD among us? No disaster will come on us.” ¹² Therefore, because of you, Zion will be plowed up like a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble, and the temple Mount like a forest high place."

³ He responded to me, "This is the curse that is going out over the surface of the whole earth, because, according to this side of the scroll, all thieves will be ejected, and according to the other side of the scroll, all liars will be ejected." ⁴ I will cause it to go out," says the LORD of hosts, "and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name; and it will remain in the midst of his house, and will destroy it with its timber and its stones."

⁶ Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on the sons of disobedience.

⁵ the LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become. Every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. ⁶ the LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth. His heart was grieved with pain.

¹² God saw how corrupt the earth had become. All the people on earth had corrupted their ways.

¹⁴ "What is man, that he could be pure? Or he who is born of woman, that he could be righteous? ¹⁵ "If God places no trust in his holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in his eyes, ¹⁶ how much less man, who is vile and corrupt, who drinks up evil like water!

² the LORD looked down from Heaven on the sons of men, to see if there were any who understood and sought God. ³ They have all gone aside. They have together become corrupt. There is no one who does good, no, not one.

¹⁵ whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways,

²⁶ The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the thoughts of the pure are pleasing.

²⁹ Look! This alone I found: God made mankind upright, but they have devised many schemes."

³ There is a tragedy that infects everything that happens on earth: a common event happens to everyone. In fact, the hearts of human beings are full of evil. Madness remains in their hearts while they live, and afterwards they join the dead.

¹⁰ Many shall be purified, cleansed and refined; but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand.

⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

³³ Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.

⁹ He made no distinction between us and them, for he cleansed their hearts by faith.

³ for you are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and dissension among you, are you not worldly? Are you not walking in the way of man?

² in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience. ³ We all lived among them at one time in the cravings of our flesh, indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath.

¹⁵ To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are corrupted and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

¹⁴ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, zealous for good deeds.

³ For at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, misled, enslaved to all sorts of desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

⁵ he saved us, not by deeds of righteousness that we have done, but because of his mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

²² Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth, so that you have a genuine love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart. ²³ For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you know that every one who does right has been born of him.

³ And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

⁴ A worthy woman is the crown of her husband, but a disgraceful wife is as rottenness in his bones.

¹⁷ Better is a dinner of herbs, where love is, than a fattened calf with hatred.

¹ Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife.

¹³ A stupid son is woe to his father, And a quarrelsome wife like a persistent leaking."

¹⁹ Better to dwell in a desert land, than with a woman, quarrelsome and provoking.

²⁴ It's better to live in a corner on the roof than in a house with a contentious woman.

¹⁵ A continual dropping on a rainy day and a contentious wife are alike: ¹⁶ restraining her is like restraining the wind, or like grasping oil in his right hand.

⁸ Ask your young men and they will tell you. Therefore let my young men find grace in your eyes, for we come at a good time. Please give whatever you can to your servants and to your son David'. ⁹ David's young men came to Nabal and told him all this in David's name, and then they waited. ¹⁰ Nabal answered David's servants, Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters these days. ¹¹ Should I take my food, my water, and my meat that I've slaughtered for my shearers and give it to men who came from who knows where?"

⁴ He plans sin on his bed. He puts himself on a way that is not good. He does not reject evil.

² Your tongue devises woes, Like a honed razor, you who practice deceit." ³ You love evil more than good, lying rather than speaking the truth. Selah.

⁵ Well will it be with the man who is kind, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with justice.

⁹ He has scattered abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be lifted up with honor.

²⁹ Do not plot harm against your neighbor who dwells in confidence beside you.

¹² The wicked desires the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes.

¹³ Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he also will cry, but will not be heard.

⁶ For the fool speaks foolishness, and his heart works iniquity, to do ungodliness; and to speak error against the LORD, to make the hungry soul empty; and he causes the drink of the thirsty to fail. ⁷ And a scoundrel, his weapons are evil; he plans evil devices to ruin the poor with words of deception even when the speech of the needy is right. ⁸ But the noble thinks noble things; and by noble things he shall stand.

² you who despise good and love evil, who tear off the skin of my people, along with the flesh from their bones. ³ Who eat the flesh of my people? They strip their skin and they break their bones; and spread them as for the caldron and as flesh within the caldron.

²¹ For from within the hearts of men come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, ²² Greed, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, haughtiness, folly;

⁶ These things took place as examples to keep us from craving evil things as they did.

¹³ For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

¹ What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you? ² You crave what you do not have. You kill and covet, but are unable to obtain it. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask. ³ And when you do ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may squander it on your pleasures. ⁴ You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God. ⁵ Or do you think the Scripture says without reason that the Spirit He caused to dwell in us yearns with envy?

⁴ Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. ⁵ You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter. ⁶ You have condemned and murdered the just; he does not resist you.

¹⁶ For the things in the world--the cravings of the earthly nature, the cravings of the eyes, the show and pride of life--they all come, not from the Father, but from the world.

³⁴ And all Israel around them fled at their cry. For they said, Lest the earth swallow us up.

¹¹ »All Israel will hear and be afraid, and will never again do such a wicked thing among you.

²¹ All the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall remove the evil from among you. All Israel shall hear, and fear.

⁷ But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly they shall be wounded. ⁸ Their own tongues shall ruin them; all who see them will shake their heads. ⁹ All mankind shall be afraid. They shall declare the work of God, and shall wisely ponder what he has done.

⁵ Let the wise listen and increase their learning; let the person of understanding receive guidance

⁹ Counsel a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will add to his learning.

¹⁴ A discerning mind seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on stupidity.

¹ An unfriendly man pursues selfishness, and defies all sound judgment.

¹⁵ The heart of the discerning gets knowledge; the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

²⁵ Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.

⁵ On hearing these words, Ananias fell down and died. And great fear came over all who heard what had happened.

¹¹ And great fear came over the whole church and all who heard about these events. ¹² The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people, and with one accord the believers gathered together in Solomon’s Colonnade. ¹³ None of the rest dared join them, although the people held them in high esteem. ¹⁴ And multitudes both of men and women believing were the more added to the Lord:)

⁶ These things took place as examples to keep us from craving evil things as they did. ⁷ Do not be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written: “The people sat down to eat and to drink, and got up to revel in idolatry.” ⁸ We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. ⁹ We should not test Christ, as some of them did, and were killed by snakes. ¹⁰ And do not complain, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroying angel. ¹¹ Now these things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come.

¹ We must pay closer attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. ² For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every transgression and disobedience received its just punishment, ³ how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,

²⁸ Anyone who rejected the Law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

¹³ In that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

²⁹ When God destroyed the cities of the plain, God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the middle of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot lived.

³ I have seen a fool taking root, but suddenly I cursed his dwelling.

¹⁵ "He leans on his web, but it gives way! He clings to it, but it does not hold.

¹⁴ "He is torn from the security of his tent and marched off to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ "Fire resides in his tent; burning sulfur is scattered over his dwelling. ¹⁶ "His roots dry up below and his branches wither above. ¹⁷ "The memory of him perishes from the earth. He has no name in the street. ¹⁸ "He is driven from light into darkness and is banished from the world. ¹⁹ "He has no offspring or descendants among his people, no survivor where once he lived. ²⁰ "Men of the west are appalled at him. Men of the east are seized with horror. ²¹ "This is the dwelling of an evil man! This is the place of one who does not know God!"

²⁸ You ask, 'Where is the noble person's house?' and 'Where are the tents where the wicked live?' ²⁹ Have ye not asked the wayfarers? and do ye not regard their tokens: ³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, that they are led forth to the day of wrath?

¹³ "Here is the fate God accords the wicked. This is the heritage a ruthless man receives from the Almighty: ¹⁴ "No mater how many his children, their fate is the sword. His offspring will never have enough to eat. ¹⁵ "The plague will bury those who survive him. Their widows will not weep for them. ¹⁶ "Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay, ¹⁷ what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver. ¹⁸ "The house he builds is like a moth's cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman. ¹⁹ He lieth down rich, but will do so no more; he openeth his eyes, and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest snatches him away in the night. ²¹ "The east wind carries him off. He is gone and it sweeps him out of his place. ²² "It hurls itself against him without mercy as he flees headlong from its power. ²³ It claps its hands over him, and it hisses at him from its place.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading like a green tree in its native soil: ³⁶ yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not; and I looked for him, but he could not be found.

⁵ but God will pull you down forever. He will snatch you and tear you away from your tent, and he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

⁴³ Whoever is wise, let him observe these things; Let them consider the benignities of the LORD."

³ The integrity of the upright guideth them; but the cunning of the treacherous destroyeth them. ⁴ Wealth cannot profit on the day of wrath; but righteousness deliver from death. ⁵ The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way, but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

⁶ Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

¹¹ The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

³² The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.

⁹ Who is wise that he can understand these things? Who is discerning that he knows them? The ways of the LORD are right, and the righteous walk in them; but transgressors stumble in them.

¹¹ "I overthrew your cities, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. You've become like a burning ember, snatched from the fire, but you have not returned to me," declares the LORD.

⁹ Woe to him who robs evil booty for his house, to set his nest on high, to be delivered from the hand of evil! ¹⁰ You have plotted shame for your house, cutting off many peoples and sinning against your life. ¹¹ For the stone from the wall shall cry out, and the cross-beam from the wood shall answer it. ¹² "Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed and establishes a city with iniquity!

⁵ For all that, God was not pleased with most of them—their carcasses were scattered around the desert!

⁴ For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; ⁵ if He did not spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly people, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, among the eight; ⁶ if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, reducing them to ashes as an example of what is coming on the ungodly; ⁷ and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men ⁸ (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— ⁹ if all this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.

⁶ By water the then-existing world was deluged and destroyed, ⁷ But by the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

⁷ "If there should be a poor man among your relatives in one of the cities of the land that the LORD your God is about to give you, don't be hard-hearted or tight-fisted toward your poor relative. ⁸ But let your hand be open to give him the use of whatever he is in need of. ⁹ "Be careful not to think this wicked thought to yourselves: 'The seventh year, the year of remission, is drawing near,' and you show ill will toward your poor relative and not give to him. He may then call to the LORD on account of you, and you will be guilty of sin. ¹⁰ You must surely give to him, and your heart must not be grieved when you give to him, because for this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you put your hand to. ¹¹ For the poor will never cease out of the land. Therefore I command you to surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land.

¹ And a cry of the people and their wives will be great against their brethren the Jews. ² Yes, they who say, We, our sons and our daughters, are many; and we take crop to eat and live. ³ Others were saying, "We're having to mortgage our fields, our vineyards, and our homes so we can buy grain during this famine." ⁴ And others there were that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards. ⁵ Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. We are powerless, and our fields and vineyards belong to others."

¹³ Shaking out the folds of my robe, I said: "So, may God send out from his house and his work every man who does not keep this agreement. Even so let him be sent out and made as nothing." All the people said: "Amen!" They praised the LORD. The people did as they said.

⁴¹ They cried, but there was none to save; even to the LORD, but he did not answer them.

⁴ Their venom is like the venom of a serpent, Like a deaf cobra that has contracted its ear,

²⁸ Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;

²⁷ He who gives to the poor will not lack. But he who hides his eyes will have many curses.

⁶ Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke ⁷ "Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house? When you see the naked, should you cover him and not hide yourself from your own flesh? ⁸ »Your light will break out like the dawn. Your recovery will speedily spring forth. Your righteousness will go before you and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. ⁹ Then you will call, and the LORD will answer. You will cry for help, and he will say, 'Here I am.' “If you take away from among you the yoke, finger pointing, and speaking wickedly;

¹⁶ But then you turned around and profaned my name when each of you took back his male and female slaves whom you had set free according to their desire, and you forced them to become male and female slaves."' ¹⁷ "Therefore, this is what the LORD says: 'You haven't obeyed me by each of you proclaiming a release for your brothers and neighbors. Now I'm going to proclaim a release for you,' declares the LORD, 'a release to the sword, to plague, and to famine, and I'll make you a horrifying sight to all the kingdoms of the earth.

⁹ Thus saith the Lord Almighty, Execute just judgment and shew mercy and compassion one to another; ¹⁰ And do not oppress the widow, or the fatherless, the alien, or the poor. And do not devise evil in your heart, of a man against his brother. ¹¹ But they refused to pay attention, turned their backs, and stopped listening. ¹² "They made their hearts hard like flint and would not listen to the law, and the words that the LORD Almighty sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Great anger came from the LORD Almighty!" ¹³ "'I cried, and they would not listen. Now they will cry, and I will not listen,' said the LORD Almighty!

¹⁴ For if you forgive men their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

² For with the same judgment you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

³⁰ But he refused. Instead, he went and had him thrown into prison until he could pay his debt. ³¹ When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and went and told their master all that had happened. ³² Then his master called for him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I canceled all of your debt because you begged me to. ³³ Should you not have had mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had on you?’ ³⁴ In his anger, his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should repay all that he owed. ³⁵ That is how My Heavenly Father will treat each of you, unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”

⁴¹ Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. ⁴² For I was hungry, and you gave me nothing to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me nothing to drink: ⁴³ I was a stranger and you did not take me in; I was naked and you did not clothe me; I was sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ ⁴⁴ Then they will answer, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or needing clothes, or sick, or in prison, and did not wait on you?' ⁴⁵ Then the King will answer, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.’ ⁴⁶ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

²⁵ After the master of the house gets up and shuts the door, you will stand outside knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door for us.’ But he will reply, ‘I do not know where you are from.’

⁵⁷ At this they covered their ears, cried out in a loud voice, and rushed together at him.

¹³ For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment. ¹⁴ What good is it, my brothers, if someone claims to have faith, but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? ¹⁵ Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. ¹⁶ If one of you tells him, “Go in peace; stay warm and well fed,” but does not provide for his physical needs, what good is that?

²⁰ And say moreover, Behold, your servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face; perhaps he will accept me.

¹¹ Then their father Israel said to them, "If it must be so then do this. Take some of the best products of the land in your bags and take them down to the man as a gift—a little balm and honey, aromatic gum and myrrh, and pistachios and almonds.

³⁵ Then David accepted what she brought him. He said: "Go home in peace. I have listened to what you said and I grant your request."

⁸ A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it; wherever he turns, he prospers.

²³ A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.

¹⁶ A man's gift widens the way for him, And guides him before the great."

⁶ Many will seek the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.

³ But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, ⁴ so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

¹² For I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the perishing came on me; and I made the widow's heart to sing. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my justice was as a robe and a turban. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. ¹⁶ "I was a father to the needy! I championed the cause of the stranger. ¹⁷ I broke the fangs of the wicked, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

⁸ I delight to do your will, O my God: yes, your law is within my heart.

¹ Praise Yah! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD; he takes great delight in his commands.

¹⁶ I am delighted with your statutes; I will not forget your word.

⁹² If your law had not been my delight I would have perished in my affliction.

²⁰ For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another?

²⁹ The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the upright, but it is a destruction to evildoers.

¹² The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin.

¹² I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice, and to do good as long as they live.

⁵ You greeted the one who gladly does right and remembers your ways. You were angry because we sinned. We continued to sin for a long time. Can we still be saved?

²³ Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Get away from me, you evildoers!'"

⁴¹ The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil, ⁴² And they will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²⁷ But he will tell you, 'I don't know where you come from. Get away from me, all you evildoers!' ²⁸ “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God, but you yourselves being thrown out.

³⁴ "My food," replied Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me, and to complete his work.

²² For in my inner being I delight in God’s Law.

¹⁴ Like sheep, they are laid in the grave. Death will shepherd them. The upright will rule them in the morning. Their forms will decay in the grave, far away from their comfortable homes.

⁵ And those who turn aside to their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them with the evildoers. Peace be upon Israel.

¹⁸ For her house leads down to death, and her paths down to the realm of the dead. ¹⁹ None who go to her return, nor do they reach the paths of life.

²⁶ For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, all her slain are a mighty host ²⁷ Her house is the way to the grave, going down to the chambers of death.

¹⁸ But he doesn't know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

²⁰ One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

⁶ and those who turned back from following the LORD, and who did not seek the LORD, and did not inquire of him."

¹⁹ And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

¹ As for you, you were dead in your trespasses and sins,

⁴ It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, ⁵ who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age— ⁶ and then have fallen away—to be restored again to repentance, because they themselves are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to open shame.

²⁶ If we deliberately go on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins remains, ²⁷ but only a terrifying prospect of judgment and a raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

³⁸ But my righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul is not well pleased with him."

²¹ It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to know it and turn their backs on the holy commandment that was committed to them. ²² Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud.”

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they did not belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But their departure made it clear that none of them belonged to us.

¹² These are breakers at your love-feasts, feasting with you without fear, feeding themselves, clouds without water driven about by winds, autumnal trees without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots,

¹⁰ lest strangers feast on your wealth, and your labors enrich another man's house. ¹¹ and you groan at your end, when your flesh and body are consumed,

²⁰ Precious treasures and oil are found where the wise live, but a foolish man devours them.

²¹ for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

¹³ After a few days, the younger son got everything together and journeyed to a distant country, where he squandered his wealth in wild living. ¹⁴ And after he had spent everything, there was a severe famine throughout that country, and he began to be in need. ¹⁵ So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. ¹⁶ He would gladly have filled his stomach with the carob pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

²⁴ So he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. For I am in agony in this fire.’ ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus received evil things; but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.

⁶ But she who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives.

⁴ Treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God;

⁸ The righteous person is delivered from trouble; it comes upon the wicked instead.

³ For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I have given Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your stead. ⁴ Since you have been precious and honored in my sight, and I have loved you, therefore I will give people in your place, and nations instead of your life.

⁴ He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows. We considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. ⁵ But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.

⁸ "My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. ⁹ "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

¹⁸ For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body, but made alive in the spirit,

⁶ And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away, and be at rest; ⁷ I would run far away. I would stay in the desert.

⁵ Woe is me, that I live in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! ⁶ I have lived too long with those who hate peace.

⁹ It's better to live in a corner on the roof than to share a house with a contentious woman.

² Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place for traveling men, that I might leave my people and go away from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.

¹⁵ "He will spit out the riches he swallowed. God will make his stomach vomit them up.

¹⁸ "What he toiled for he must give back uneaten. He will not enjoy the profit from his trading.

⁵ You prepare a table before me, even in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

³ Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.

²² The blessing of the LORD makes rich and he adds no grief to it.

⁶ In the house of the righteous is much treasure, but the income of the wicked brings trouble.

¹⁹ Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to accept his lot, and to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.

¹¹ Wisdom together with a heritage is good, and a profit to those who see the sun.

¹⁹ A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh life merry; but money answereth everything.

⁸ Ten men from the group pleaded with Ishmael: "Do not kill us! We have wheat, barley, olive oil, and honey hidden in the country." So he left them alone and did not kill them along with the others.

¹⁹ Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. ²⁰ But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

³ The foolish ones took their lamps, but took no oil with them. ⁴ But the wise ones took oil in flasks along with their lamps.

⁸ The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

⁴⁵ The good man brings good things out of the good treasure of his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil treasure of his heart. For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.

¹⁴ And after he had spent everything, there was a severe famine throughout that country, and he began to be in need.

¹ Jesus also said to His disciples, “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions.

¹⁹ "There was once a rich man, who used to dress in purple and fine linen, and to live in luxury every day. ²⁰ Near his gateway there had been laid a beggar named Lazarus, who was covered with sores, ²¹ and longing to be fed from what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² Now it happened that the poor man died, and the angels carried him into AbrahamÆs bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. ²³ In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side.

⁹ The way of the wicked is hateful to the LORD, but He loves him who pursues righteousness.

⁴ By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honor, and life.

¹ "Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD. Look to the rock from which you were hewn and to the quarry from which you were dug out.

³ Let us acknowledge the LORD. Let us press on to know the LORD. As surely as the sun rises, The LORD will appear. He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain that waters the earth."

⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

⁷ To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life. ⁸ But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger. ⁹ There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil, first for the Jew, then for the Greek; ¹⁰ but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, first for the Jew, then for the Greek.

¹⁹ Let us therefore pursue the things that tend to peace, and to mutual edification.

⁵⁸ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

¹² Not that I have already obtained this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

²¹ but test everything; hold on to the good.

¹¹ But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

²² Flee the lusts of youth; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

⁷ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. ⁸ In the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing.

¹⁴ Strive for peace with all men, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

⁷ so that your tested faith, much more precious than gold that perishes though tested by fire, may be found to your praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed,

⁶ The king and his men went to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived in that region. The Jebusites told David: "You will never get in here. Even the blind and the lame could turn you away. In other words he could not enter there." ⁷ David captured the fortress of Zion, the city of David. ⁸ At that time, David had said, "Whoever intends to attack the Jebusites will have to climb up the water shaft to attack the lame and blind, who hate David." Therefore they say, "The blind and lame shall never come into the house." ⁹ David occupied the fortress, naming it the City of David. He built up the surroundings from the terrace ramparts inward.

¹⁶ Then a wise woman cried out in the city, Hear, hear, I pray you, tell Joab to come here, that I may speak with him. ¹⁷ Joab came over and the woman asked him, "Are you Joab?" "I am," he answered. So she told him, "Listen to what your servant has to say!" "I'm listening," he replied. ¹⁸ Then spake she, saying,—They, used to speak, in former times, saying, Enquire, in Abel! And, so, they ended it. ¹⁹ I am among those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why will you swallow up the LORD's inheritance?” ²⁰ Joab answered, “Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy. ²¹ The matter is not so. But a man of the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David. Deliver him only, and I will depart from the city." The woman said to Joab, "Look, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall." ²² Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri and threw it out to Joab. And he blew the trumpet and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

⁵ A wise man is strong; and a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

¹⁹ Wisdom makes a wise man stronger than ten rulers in a town.

¹³ I also observed this example of wisdom on earth, and it seemed important to me: ¹⁴ There was a small city with only a few mortals in it, And a great king came against it and surrounded it, And he built great siege works against it." ¹⁵ but there was found therein, a man, poor [but] wise, and, he, delivered the city by his wisdom,—yet, no one, remembered that poor man. ¹⁶ And I said, Wisdom is better than strength; but the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. ¹⁷ The softly spoken words of the wise are to be heard rather than the shouts of a ruler of fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking; but he who holds back his lips is wise.

¹³ An evil man is trapped by sinfulness of lips, but the righteous shall come out of trouble.

³ He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

²⁷ He that hath knowledge spareth his words; and a man of understanding is of a cool spirit. ²⁸ Even a fool is thought to be wise when he remains silent; he is thought to be prudent when he keeps his mouth shut.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat its fruit.

²⁶ If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless.

² We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to control his whole body. ³ When we put bits into the mouths of the horses to make them obey us, we can guide the whole animal. ⁴ Consider ships as well. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot is inclined. ⁵ So also the tongue is a small member and makes great boasts. Behold, how great a forest is set on fire by a little spark! ⁶ The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. ⁷ All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. ⁹ With the tongue we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, this should not be! ¹¹ Can both fresh water and bitter water flow from the same spring? ¹² My brothers, can a fig tree grow olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. ¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good conduct, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

⁵ When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel and bow down to him, he flew into a rage. ⁶ he was greatly inflamed with wrath, and determined to destroy all the Jews throughout the whole kingdom of Artaxerxes.

¹ Blessed is the man who doesn't walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers;

²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?

¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

¹² Before shattering, a man's heart is haughty, but humility goes before honor.

²⁹ Penalties are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the back of fools.

⁸ The end of a thing is better than its start, and a gentle spirit is better than pride. ⁹ Do not be quick in your spirit to anger, for anger lodges in the bosom of fools.

⁶ We have heard of the pride of Moab—exceedingly proud— of his arrogance, pride, and insolence; ⌊his boasting is not true⌋.

²⁹ We have heard of the pride of Moab —he is very proud— his height, and his pride, and his arrogance, and the haughtiness of his heart.

¹⁶ When Herod saw that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was filled with rage. Sending orders, he put to death all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, according to the time he had learned from the Magi.

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: ⁷ It has no commander, officer, or ruler ⁸ but prepares its provisions in the summer and gathers its food in the harvest. ⁹ How long will you lie down, lazy man? When will you get up from your sleep? ¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest! ¹¹ and your poverty will come on you like a bandit and your desperation like an armed man.

²⁴ The hands of the diligent ones shall rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.

²⁷ The lazy one does not start after his game, but the wealth of a hard worker is precious.

¹⁹ The way of the sluggard is like a thorn patch, but the path of the upright is a highway.

²⁴ The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, and will not so much as bring it back to his mouth.

⁴ The sluggard will not plough by reason of the winter; he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside. I will be killed in the streets."

³⁰ I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding: ³¹ Look, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I myself set my heart on what I was perceiving; I took admonition from what I saw: ³³ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest: ³⁴ So loss will come on you like an outlaw, and your need like an armed man.

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road. A fierce lion roams the streets."

¹⁶ A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven [men] that answer discreetly.

²⁶ But his master answered him, 'You wicked and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed?

²⁶ He is always generous and lends freely. His descendants are a blessing.

⁴² Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

³⁰ Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what is yours, do not demand it back. ³¹ Do to others as you would have them do to you. ³² If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. ³³ And if you do good to those doing good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do the same. ³⁴ And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. ³⁵ But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. ³⁶ Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

³³ I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. ³⁴ You yourselves know that these hands of mine have ministered to my own needs and those of my companions. ³⁵ In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

⁷ But just as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness, and in the love we inspired in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving. ⁸ I am not speaking this as a command, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others. ⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.

⁹ As it is written: “He has scattered abroad His gifts to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.” ¹⁰ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will multiply the harvest of your righteousness. ¹¹ You will be enriched in everything, so you can be generous, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. ¹² For this ministry of service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanksgiving to God. ¹³ Because your service in giving proves your love, you will be glorifying God as you obey what your confession of the Messiah's gospel demands, since you are generous in sharing with them and with everyone else. ¹⁴ And in their prayers, their hearts will go out to you because of the surpassing grace of God in you.

⁵ For, as you know, we never used flattery nor a pretext for greed God is witness ⁶ or to seek glory from men (whether from you or from others) —as apostles of Christ we could have been ‘heavy’, ⁷ But we were gentle among you, like a mother nursing her little children. ⁸ We cared so deeply that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our own lives as well. That is how beloved you have become to us. ⁹ Surely you remember, brothers, our toil and exertion, because working night and day, so as not to burden any of you, we proclaimed the Gospel of God to you.

¹² I thought, 'The Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal but I've not sought the favor of the LORD,' so I forced myself to offer the burnt offering." ¹³ Then Samuel said to Saul, "You have behaved foolishly! You have not kept the command of the LORD your God which he commanded you. For then, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.

²¹ But the people took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of the devoted things, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal. ²² And Samuel said, Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice! To listen is better than the fat of rams! ²³ For rebellion is like the sin of divination; arrogance is like iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you from being king!"

⁸ I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices. Your burnt offerings are continually before me. ⁹ I have no need for a bull from your stall, nor male goats from your pens. ¹⁰ For every animal of the forest is Mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. ¹¹ I know every bird of the mountains, and every moving creature in the field is mine. ¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it. ¹³ Do I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

⁹ Whoever turns away from listening to the Law even his prayer is detestable.

¹¹ What is the abundance of your sacrifices to me? says the LORD. I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals and I do not delight in the blood of bulls and ram-lambs and goats. ¹² When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth; they are become a burden unto me; I am weary to bear them, ¹⁵ "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you. Even though you offer many prayers, I will not listen because your hands are full of blood. ¹⁶ "Wash yourselves! Become clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight. Stop doing evil.

³ He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog's neck; he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig's blood; he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations:

²⁰ "What purpose does frankincense come to me from Sheba and the sweet cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable and your sacrifices are not pleasing to me."

¹¹ "Has this house, called by my name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Behold, I, even I, have seen it," declares the LORD. ¹² "But go to my place in Shiloh, where I made my name dwell from the beginning, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can’t stand your solemn assemblies. ²² Yes, even if you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them, and I will not look at the fellowship offerings of your fattened animals.

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.

¹ "Do not spread false rumors. Do not help a guilty person by offering false testimony.

¹⁶ When a malicious witness takes the stand against a man and accuses him, ¹⁷ then the two men to whom the legal dispute pertains shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who are in office in those days. ¹⁸ "The judges must make a thorough investigation. If it is found that the witness lied when he testified against the other Israelite, ¹⁹ then work to him as he intrigued to work to his brother: thus you burn the evil from among you.

¹⁹ a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

¹⁹ Truth’s lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only momentary.

⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished; he who pours out lies shall not go free.

⁹ A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes lies will perish.

¹⁸ Like a club and sword and a sharp arrow is a man who bears false witness against his neighbor.

¹⁵ “You are out of your mind,” they told her. But when she kept insisting it was so, they said, “It is his angel.”

¹⁷ When I was planning this, did I do it lightly? Or do I make my plans in a fleshly manner so that in the same breath I say, "Yes, Yes" and "No, No"? ¹⁸ But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.” ¹⁹ For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was proclaimed among you by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not “Yes” and “No,” but in Him it has always been “Yes.” ²⁰ For all the promises of God are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him, our “Amen” is spoken to the glory of God.

¹³ As it is written, I believed, and therefore I have spoken; so we, with the same spirit of faith, also believe, and therefore speak;

⁸ This teaching is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.

⁵ Oh that my ways were steadfast to obey your statutes!

⁵⁹ I considered my ways, and turned my steps to your statutes.

⁵ The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way, but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

¹⁴ Blessed is the man who always fears; but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.

¹ He that is stiff necked and will not be reformed, shall suddenly be destroyed without any help.

² "Look up to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been ravished? You have sat beside the road, waiting for them like a nomad in the desert. And you have polluted the land with your fornication and your wickedness. ³ Therefore rain showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come. Yet you have the forehead of a woman prostitute, you refuse to be ashamed.

³ O LORD, are not Your eyes for the truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain. You consumed them, yet they refused to take correction. They made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to return.

¹² Were they ashamed when they had done hateful things? They were not even at all ashamed, nor did they know how to blush. So they shall fall among those who fall. In the time of their punishment they will stumble, says the LORD.

¹⁶ "We refuse to listen to what you have told us in the name of the LORD. ¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatever thing goes out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings, and our rulers, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. And we had plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

²⁸ Because he considers and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he will surely live. He will not die.

⁵ For this cause the Lord of armies has said, Give thought to your ways.

¹⁵ Now, please consider from this day and backward, before a stone was laid on a stone in the LORD's temple.

¹⁸ "'Pay attention from now on, from this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, when the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid. Pay attention! ¹⁹ Is the seed yet in the barn? Yea, the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not brought forth. From this day I will bless [you].

¹⁷ "Then he came to his senses and said, 'How many of my father's hired men have more food than they can eat, and here I am starving to death! ¹⁸ I will get up and go back to my father and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.

¹¹ Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus make a way for us to come to you;

²¹ There are many plans in a man's heart, but the LORD's counsel will prevail.

⁵ "'Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah's son have plotted your ruin. They say: ⁶ "'"Let us invade Judah. Let us tear it apart and divide it among us. Let us make the son of Tabeel king over Judah." ⁷ "'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "It will not take place! It will not happen!

⁹ Make an uproar, you peoples, and be broken in pieces! Listen, all you from far countries: dress for battle, and be shattered! Dress for battle, and be shattered! ¹⁰ ⌊Make a plan⌋, but it will be frustrated! Speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us!

²⁷ For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who shall reverse it? And His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

¹⁰ "I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.' ¹¹ I summon a bird of prey from the east. I summon a man to fulfill my purpose from a far off land. What I have said I will bring about. What I have determined (purposed) I will do.

²³ [J] Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom: nor the mighty man boast of his strength; neither let the rich man boast of his riches:

¹³ But the men rowed hard to regain the land; but they could not; for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them.

²⁷ For in truth both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed, ²⁸ They carried out what Your hand and purpose had decided beforehand would happen.

³⁹ But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God.”

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness.” ²⁰ And again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”

⁸ and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall;" they stumble because they disobey the wordas they were desstined to do.

³ But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.

⁸ To the LORD belongs deliverance; may your blessing be over your people. Selah

⁷ Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

¹⁷ It is vain to trust in a horse for deliverance, even with its great strength, it cannot deliver. ¹⁸ Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope for his loyal love

²⁰ Our God is a God of deliverances, and to the the Sovereign LORD belong escapes from death.

¹⁰ You who gives salvation to kings, who delivers His servant David from the evil sword.

¹⁰ He takes no delight in the strength of the horse, nor any pleasure in the legs of a man.

¹¹ I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to the intelligent, nor yet favour to men of knowledge; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

¹ Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD!

²³ Surely, an illusion comes from the hills, the turmoil on the mountains. Surely, in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.
