⁸ Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.

⁷ The path of the righteous is level. O upright One, you make the way of the righteous smooth.

³ Therefore, brothers, select from among you seven men confirmed to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will appoint this responsibility to them

²² They said: "We come from Cornelius the centurion, a righteous man who respects God. He has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews. A holy angel told him to have you come to his house so he could hear what you have to say."

¹² There a man named Ananias, a devout observer of the Law, highly respected by all the Jews who lived there,

²⁹ No, a man is a Jew because he is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise does not come from men, but from God.

⁹ Love must be sincere. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good. ¹⁰ Be devoted to one another with brotherly love; honour one another more than yourselves; ¹¹ Never be lacking in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord. ¹² Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, persistent in prayer. ¹³ Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality. ¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. ¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. ¹⁶ Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited. ¹⁷ Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in the eyes of everybody. ¹⁸ If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace with everybody. ¹⁹ Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” ²⁰ On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.” ²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

³ For rulers are not a terror for those who do good works, but to those who do evil. Do you want to have no fear of the one in authority? do that which is good, and you shall have his praise:

¹³ Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the proper time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

¹ If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a ringing gong or a clanging cymbal. ² If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. ³ If I give all I have to the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. ⁴ Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. ⁵ It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs. ⁶ Love does not rejoice with evil, but rejoices with the truth. ⁷ endures all, trusts all, hopes all, abides all: ⁸ Love never fails; but where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. ⁹ For we know in part and we prophesy in part, ¹⁰ But when perfection comes, what is imperfect will pass away. ¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. ¹² Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. ¹³ And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.

⁸ through glory and dishonor, evil report and good report; true, yet regarded as impostors;

¹⁸ And we are sending along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his preaching of the gospel;

²¹ For we are taking great care to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord, but also in the eyes of men.

⁷ Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong—not that we will appear to have stood the test, but that you will do what is right, even if we appear to have failed.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

²⁵ Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are members of one another.

⁹ for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.

¹⁴ Stand firm then, with the belt of truth fastened around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed,

¹ Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.

⁵ Behave wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.

¹² so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anyone.

²¹ but test everything; hold on to the good. ²² Avoid every kind of evil.

² for kings and all those in authority, so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.

⁴ [He must] manage his own family well and, with dignity, keep his children in subjection [or, “respectful”].

⁷ He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. ⁸ Deacons likewise must be dignified, not insincere, not devoted to much wine, not fond of dishonest gain,

¹¹ In the same way, the women must be serious, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.

¹² Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example for other believers in your speech, behavior, love, faithfulness, and purity.

² older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.

¹⁰ and well known for good deeds such as bringing up children, entertaining strangers, washing the feet of the saints, imparting relief to the afflicted, and devoting herself to every good work.

⁸ Instead, he must be hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.

² Older men are to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in endurance.

⁷ In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,

¹⁴ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, zealous for good deeds.

¹⁴ Our people must also learn to devote themselves to good deeds, so that they may help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful.

² This is why the ancients were commended.

¹⁸ Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way.

²⁷ Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.

²² Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth, so that you have a genuine love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart.

¹² Conduct yourselves with such honor among the Gentiles that, though they slander you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us.

⁸ Above all, love one another deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

³ His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. ⁴ Through these he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, seeing that you have escaped the corruption that is in the world caused by evil desires. ⁵ For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; ⁶ and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; ⁷ and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

¹ Beloved, this is now my second letter to you. Both of them are reminders to stir you to wholesome thinking

³ And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

¹⁸ Little children, let us not love in word or tongue but in deed and in truth.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
