¹ Moses said to the heads of the tribes of Israel: This is what the LORD has commanded about vows: ² When a man vows a vow to the LORD, or has sworn an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word; he shall do all that has gone out of his mouth. ³ And in case a woman vows a vow to the LORD and binds herself by a bond in the house of her father in her youth, ⁴ but if her father hears her vow or her pledge that she bound on herself and says nothing to her, then all her vows will stand, and every pledge that she binds on her life will stand. ⁵ But if her father forbids her in the day that he hears, none of her vows or of her pledges with which she has bound her soul, shall stand. the LORD will forgive her, because her father has forbidden her. ⁶ "If she has a husband while bound by her vows or a rash promise of her lips, ⁷ and her husband hears of it and is silent on the day he hears it, her vows will stand, and her pledge that she bound upon herself will stand. ⁸ But if on the day her husband hears of it, he forbids her, then he will nullify her vow that she is under, and the rash promise of her lips that she bound on herself; and the LORD will forgive her. ⁹ The vow of a widow or one driven out, all which she binds on her soul shall be confirmed on her. ¹⁰ "If she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath, ¹¹ and her husband heard it but was silent to her, and he did not forbid her, all her vows will stand and every pledge that she bound on herself will stand. ¹² But if her husband nullified them on the day he hears them, all her vows going out of her lips concerning her vows or the pledge on herself will not stand; her husband has nullified them, and the LORD will forgive her. ¹³ Every vow and every bonded oath to humble the soul, her man raises or her man breaks. ¹⁴ But if her husband is completely silent from day to day, then he confirms all her vows or all her pledges that are on her; he confirms them because he was silent to her on the day he heard them. ¹⁵ But if he indeed nullifies them after he hears them, then he will bear her guilt." ¹⁶ These are the laws which the Lord gave Moses in relation to a man and his wife, or a father and a young daughter who is under his authority.

²⁵ Moses chose capable men from all Israel and appointed them as heads over the people, as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.

⁴ A man from each tribe will be with you, each man the head of his family. ⁵ And these are the names of the men who will assist you: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur; ⁶ from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai; ⁷ from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab; ⁸ from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar; ⁹ from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon. ¹⁰ for the sons of Joseph:for Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; for Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur;" ¹¹ From Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni; ¹² from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai; ¹³ from Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran; ¹⁴ from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel; ¹⁵ For Naphtali: Ahira, son of Enan. ¹⁶ These are the ones summoned from the community, the leaders of their ancestors' tribes; they are the heads of Israel's clans.

¹³ Take wise men of understanding who are respected among your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.” ¹⁴ "You answered me: 'The thing you speak is good for us to do.' ¹⁵ So I chose leaders from your tribes, wise and respected men, and I appointed them over you commanders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. ¹⁶ And I commanded your judges at that time, saying, Hear between your brothers; and judge with righteousness between a man and his brother, and his alien. ¹⁷ "You will not show partiality in judgment. You shall hear the small and the great. You will not fear man for the judgment is God's. The case that is too hard for you, bring to me, and I will hear it.'

²⁰ Jacob made a vow. He said: "If God will be with me and will watch over me on my trip and give me food to eat and clothes to wear, ²¹ "and if I return safely to my father's home, then the LORD will be my God. ²² And this stone which I have put up for a pillar will be God's house: and of all you give me, I will give a tenth part to you.

⁷ “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.

⁴ »When you pledge a vow in haste about what you will or will not do, as some people do, and then ignore it; although you know what you said, you will be guilty.

² Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, When a man shall make a special vow, the persons shall be for the LORD by your evaluation. ³ your valuation of a male from twenty years old to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary. ⁴ And if it is a female, the value will be thirty shekels. ⁵ And if it be from five years old to twenty, the valuation of a male shall be twenty shekels, and of a female ten shekels. ⁶ And if the person is from one month to five years old, then the value for a male will be five shekels of silver, and for a female three shekels. ⁷ And if a son, sixty years and above, if a male, your appraisal, fifteen shekels and for the female, ten shekels. ⁸ »‘The person who is too poor to pay the required amount must stand in front of the priest. The priest will determine the amount based on what the person can afford. ⁹ "'If it is an animal, of which men offer an offering to the LORD, all that any man gives of such to the LORD becomes holy. ¹⁰ »‘Do not exchange or substitute animals, a good one for a bad one or a bad one for a good one. If you do exchange one animal for another, then both animals will be holy. ¹¹ If it is any unclean animal, of which they do not offer as an offering to the LORD, then he shall set the animal before the priest; ¹² And let the priest put a value on it, if it is good or bad; whatever value the priest puts on it, so will it be. ¹³ and if the person chuse to redeem it, he shall add a fifth to the valuation. ¹⁴ "'If any man dedicate his house, it shall be holy unto the LORD. And the priest shall set it; whether it be good or bad, and as the priest hath set it, so it shall be. ¹⁵ and if he who dedicated it chuse to redeem it, he shall add thereto a fifth of the money at which it was rated, and it shall be his. ¹⁶ And if a man should hallow to the Lord a part of the field of his possession, then the valuation shall be according to its seed, fifty shekels of silver for a homer of barley. ¹⁷ If he gives his field from the year of Jubilee, the value will be fixed by your decision. ¹⁸ But if some time after, the priest shall reckon the money according to the number of years that remain until the jubilee, and the price shall be abated. ¹⁹ And if he that sanctified the field would redeem it, he shall add to its value the fifth part of the money, and it shall be his. ²⁰ "'If you do not buy it back and it is sold to someone else, it may not be redeemed. ²¹ "'When the field is released in the jubilee year, it will be holy like a field claimed by the LORD. It will become the property of the priest. ²² "'If he dedicates to the LORD a field which he has bought, which is not of the field of his possession, ²³ "'The priest must figure out the field's value until the jubilee year. You will pay its value on that day as something holy, belonging to the LORD. ²⁴ In the year of jubilee the field shall return to him from whom he bought it, to him who owns it in the land. ²⁵ All your valuations shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs to the shekel. ²⁶ However, the first-born of an animal, which should be the LORD's first-born, no man shall sanctify it, whether an ox, or sheep, it is the LORD's. ²⁷ If it be an unclean beast, then let him redeem it as it is set at, and give the fifth part more thereto. If it be not redeemed, then let it be sold as it is rated. ²⁸ However, no devoted thing that a man shall devote to the LORD of all that he has, either of man or animal, or of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed. Every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD. ²⁹ `No devoted thing, which is devoted of man, is ransomed, it is surely put to death. ³⁰ And all the tenth of the land from the seed of the land, from the fruit of the tree, is to the LORD: it is holy to the LORD. ³¹ If a man redeems anything of his tithe, he shall add a fifth part to it. ³² And all the tithe of the herd and of the flock, all that passes under the rod, a tenth shall be holy to the LORD; ³³ "'You must not look to see if it is good or bad or exchange it. If you do exchange it, both the first animal and its substitute will be holy. They may not be bought back.'" ³⁴ These are the commandments the LORD gave Moses on Mount Sinai for the Israelites.

² Then Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD and said, "If thou wilt give this people into our hands, we will destroy their cities."

¹¹ So Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and commander over them. And Jephthah spoke all his words before the LORD at Mizpah.

³⁰ And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD, and he said, "If indeed you will give the Ammonites into my hand, ³¹ whatever comes out from the doors of my house to meet me when I return safely from the Ammonites will be the LORD's, and I will offer it as a burnt offering."

³⁵ When he saw her he tore his clothes and said, Alas my daughter! You have made me very sad and troubled, for I have made a vow to the LORD and I can't go back on it. ³⁶ She said: "If you made a promise to the LORD, do what you said you would do to me, since the LORD has given you revenge on your enemies, the Ammonites."

³⁹ And the two months being expired, she returned to her father, and he did to her as he had vowed, and she knew no man. From thence came a fashion in Israel, and a custom has been kept:

²⁷ You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will pay your vows.

³ he who doesn't slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his friend, nor casts slurs against his fellow man;

²⁵ From you comes my praise in the great assembly. I will pay my vows before those who fear him.

¹⁴ Offer thanksgiving to God; and pay your vows to the Most High.

²⁰ He raises his hands against his friends, he has violated his covenant.

¹² Your vows are on me, God. I will give thank offerings to you.

¹³ I will come to your house with burnt offerings. I will fulfill my vows to you ¹⁴ which my lips promised, and my mouth spoke, when I was in distress.

¹¹ Make vows to the LORD your God, and fulfill them. Let all of his neighbors bring presents to him who is to be feared.

¹⁴ I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.

¹⁸ I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people,

¹⁰⁶ I have sworn, and have confirmed it, that I will obey your righteous ordinances.

²⁵ It is a snare to the man to declare something is holy, and afterward to reconsider his vows.

⁴ When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for he takes no pleasure in fools. Fulfill what you vow! ⁵ It is better not to vow, than to vow and not perform.

¹⁵ "Behold, upon the mountains the feet of him who brings good tidings. Who publishes peace! Keep your feasts, O Judah and perform your vows! The wicked will no more pass through (invade) you. They will be completely destroyed."

³³ Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill your vows to the Lord.’ ³⁴ But I tell you not to swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne;

⁷ That he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. ⁸ Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist." ⁹ The king was grieved, but because of his oaths and his guests, he ordered that her wish be granted

¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’

¹⁸ And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’

¹² When daylight came, the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.

¹⁴ They went to the high priests and elders and said, "We have taken a solemn oath not to taste any food before we have killed Paul.

²¹ Don't believe them, because more than 40 of them are planning to ambush him. They have taken an oath not to eat or drink before they have killed him. They are ready now, just waiting for your consent."

⁶ For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt-offerings.

⁴ For God said: ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ ⁵ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might have received from me is a gift to God' ⁶ he need not honor his father or mother with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

¹⁰ For Moses said, ‘Honor your Father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ ¹¹ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God), ¹² then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother, ¹³ making void the word of God by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do many things like this."

¹ Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

¹⁶ He said to the woman: "I will greatly increase your pains in childbirth; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

⁴ The wife has not power over her body, but the husband; and in the same way the husband has not power over his body, but the wife.

³⁴ women are to be silent in the churches. They are not permitted to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.

²² Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. ²³ For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is himself the Savior. ²⁴ Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

⁷ "'They shall take no wife that is an whore, or polluted, or put from her husband: for a priest is holy unto his God.

³⁷ and then was a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.

² For instance, a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage.

²⁸ And the priest will make atonement for the person who ⌊sinned unintentionally⌋ ⌊before Yahweh⌋, to make atonement for him, and he will be forgiven.

³ But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

²⁹ "And this shall be a lasting statute for you: in the seventh month, on the tenth of the month, you must deny yourselves and you must not do any work, whether the native or the alien who is dwelling in your midst,

²⁷ But on the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement, a holy convocation shall it be unto you, and ye shall fast; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

³² It is a sabbath of rest, and you shall afflict your souls beginning on the ninth day of the month. From evening until evening you shall celebrate your sabbaths.

⁷ `And on the tenth of this seventh month a holy convocation ye have, and ye have humbled your souls; ye do no work;

²¹ And even there at the water beside Ahava, I proclaimed a fast, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and our children and all our substance.

¹³ But when they were sick, I wore sackcloth. I humbled myself with fasting. My prayer returned unanswered.

⁵ Is this the fast that I have chosen? A day for a man to humble his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under himself? Will you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?

⁵ Do not deprive one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

⁹ neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

¹ You wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without a word by the behavior of their wives, ² when they see how pure and reverent you are. ³ Your beauty should not come from outward adornment such as braided hair or gold jewelry or fine clothes, ⁴ but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight. ⁵ For so of old the holy women who hoped in God adorned themselves. They were submissive to their own husbands, ⁶ Thus Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: and you are her daughters, if you do right, and do not give way to fear.

¹ And if anyone does wrong by saying nothing when he is put under oath as a witness of something he has seen or had knowledge of, then he will be responsible:

⁴⁶ "'This is the law about animals, birds, and every living creature that swims in the water and every creature that swarms on the ground. ⁴⁷ To distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.

⁵⁹ This is the law of the plague of leprosy of a woolen or linen garment, either of the warp, or woof, or any leather article, to pronounce it clean or unclean.

⁵⁴ These are the instructions for any kind of mildew or fungus ⁵⁵ And for signs of disease in clothing, or in a house; ⁵⁶ and for a swelling, and for a scab, and for a bright spot; ⁵⁷ to teach when something is unclean and when something is clean. This is the regulation of the infectious skin disease."

³² These are the instructions for any man, who has a discharge or an emission of semen that makes him unclean, ³³ and of her who has her period, and of a man or woman who has a discharge, and of him who lies with her who is unclean.

²⁹ This is the law of jealousies when a woman goes astray, being under the power of her husband, and is defiled; ³⁰ or when a spirit of jealousy comes over a man and he is jealous of his wife, he will present the woman before the LORD,and the priest will do to her all of this law.
