⁷ "Zelophehad's daughters are right. You must give them property of their own among their father's relatives. Turn their father's property over to them.

¹ The leaders of the families of the clans of descendants of Gilead the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, of the clans of the descendants of Joseph came near and spoke before Moses and before the leaders of the families of the Israelites. ² And they said: the LORD commanded my lord to give the land for inheritance by lot to the sons of Israel. And my lord was commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters.

⁴ They came to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the princes, saying, “the LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers.” Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father.

⁵ A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

¹¹ Leave your orphans. I will let them live. And your widows, let them trust in me."
