²⁰ The sons of Judah were, by their families:through Shelah the Shelanite family; through Perez the Perezite family; through Zerah the Zerahite family.

⁵ She yet again bore a son, and named him Shelah. He was at Chezib when she bore him.

¹¹ And Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, Live as a widow in your father's house until my son Shelah is grown. For he said, Lest he also die like his brothers. And Tamar went and lived in her father's house.

He was named Perez. ³⁰ Then his brother, who had the scarlet thread on his wrist, came out and he was given the name Zerah.

¹² The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

¹⁸ Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez became the father of Hezron; ¹⁹ Hezron fathered Ram, and Ram fathered Amminadab. ²⁰ Amminadab begat Nahshon, Nahshon begat Salmon, ²¹ Salmon became the father of Boaz, and Boaz became the father of Obed. ²² and Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.

³ The sons of Judah: Er, Onan and Shelah. These three were born to him by a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua. Er, Judah's firstborn was wicked in the LORD's sight; so the LORD put him to death. ⁴ Tamar, Judah's daughter-in-law, bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all. ⁵ The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul. ⁶ The sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol and Darda five in all. ⁷ The son of Carmi: Achar, who brought trouble on Israel by violating the ban on taking devoted things. ⁸ The son of Ethan: Azariah.

²¹ The sons of Shelah son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, Laadah the father of Mareshah and the clans of the linen workers at Beth Ashbea,

⁴ And some from the descendants of Judah and Benjamin lived in Jerusalem. From the descendants of Judah: Athaiah son of Uzziah, son of Zechariah, son of Amariah, son of Shephatiah, son of Mahalalel, from the descendants of Perez;

⁶ All of the descendants of Perez who lived in Jerusalem numbered 468 men of valor.

²⁴ Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, a descendant of Zerah son of Judah, represented the king in all matters concerning the people.

³ Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar; Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Aram,
