⁴² Do not go up, for the LORD is not among you; do not be smitten before your enemies.

⁴² But the LORD said to me, Say to them, Do not go up, nor fight, for I am not among you, you will be beaten by your enemies.

⁸ Lord, what am I to say, now that Israel has run away from its enemies?

¹² Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.

¹ [To the Chief Musician for the Sons of Korah, a maschil.] We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work you did in their days, in the times of old. ² You with your hand drove out the nations, but them you planted. You harmed the peoples, but them you let spread out. ³ For not with their sword did they possess the land, and their arm did not give them victory. Rather it was your right hand and your arm and the light of your presence, because you delighted in them. ⁴ You are my King, my God, who commands victories for Jacob. ⁵ Through you we push down our tribulators; through your name we trample them who rise against us. ⁶ For I do not trust my bow, and my sword cannot give me victory. ⁷ You saved us from our adversaries. You put to shame those who hate us. ⁸ In God will we boast all the day, and we will praise thy name for ever. Selah. ⁹ Yet you have rejected and disgraced us. You do not even go along with our armies. ¹⁰ You make us retreat from the enemy. Those who hate us rob us at will. ¹¹ You give us over to be butchered like sheep and scatter us among the nations.
