¹ Be careful not to perform your righteous acts before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. ² So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward. ³ But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, ⁴ so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ⁵ And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward. ⁶ But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ⁷ But when you pray, do not babble like the heathen, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. ⁸ Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. ⁹ So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, ¹⁰ Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. ¹¹ Give us today our daily bread; ¹² And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors; ¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ ¹⁴ For if you forgive men their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ »If you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. ¹⁶ When you fast, do not be somber like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward. ¹⁷ But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, ¹⁸ so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ¹⁹ Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. ²⁰ But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. ²¹ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ²² The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. ²³ But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! ²⁴ No one can serve two masters: Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. ²⁵ Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? ²⁶ Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? ²⁷ Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his lifespan? ²⁸ And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin. ²⁹ But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? ³¹ Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' ³² For the pagans pursue all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. ³³ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well. ³⁴ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.

¹³ Be sure to return his garment to him at sunset so that he may sleep with it, and he will bless you. It will be a righteous deed before the LORD your God.

¹⁶ He said, "Come with me, and see my zeal for the LORD." So he made him ride in his chariot.

³¹ But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart; he did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam by which he caused Israel to sin.

⁹ He has scattered abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be lifted up with honor.

³¹ And they come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words. But they will not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their unjust gain.

²⁷ Therefore, your majesty, may my advice be acceptable to you: Stop your sinning, do what's right, and put a stop to your wickedness by showing kindness to the oppressed. Perhaps your tranquility will continue."

⁵ "Say to all the people of the land and to the priests: 'When you fasted and lamented in the fifth and seventh months for these seventy years, did you really fast for me?

⁴ And then on that day, each of the prophets will be ashamed because of his vision when he was prophesying, and they will not put on a cloak of hair in order to deceive,

¹⁶ In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

⁴⁶ If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even tax collectors do the same?

⁴⁸ Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.

⁴ so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. ⁵ And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward. ⁶ But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

⁹ So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name,

¹⁶ When you fast, do not be somber like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.

⁴¹ Every one who receives a prophet, because he is a prophet, will receive a prophet's reward, and every one who receives a righteous man, because he is a righteous man, will receive a righteous man's reward. ⁴² And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”

⁶ and Jesus said to them, "Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the Sadducees."

²⁷ For the Son of Man will come in His Father’s glory with His angels, and then He will repay each one according to what he has done.

⁵ But they do all their works to be seen by men. For they make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long,

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.

²⁸ In the same way, on the outside you also appear righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. ²⁹ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous. ³⁰ And you say, 'If we had lived in the days of our forefathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.'

⁴⁰ And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

¹⁵ Jesus had been warning them, "Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod!"

³⁵ Be careful, then, that the light within you is not darkness.

¹ In the meantime, a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling one another. Jesus began to speak first to His disciples: “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

¹⁵ And He said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourselves against every form of greed, for a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

¹⁵ So He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is prized among men is detestable before God.

⁴⁴ How can you believe if you accept glory from one another, yet do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

⁴³ For they loved praise from men more than praise from God.

¹⁷ For if I transact this voluntarily, I have a reward: but if involuntarily, an administration is entrusted to me. ¹⁸ What then is my reward? That in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not use up my rights in preaching it.

⁹ As it is written: “He has scattered abroad His gifts to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.” ¹⁰ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will multiply the harvest of your righteousness.

¹² Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. They only do this to avoid persecution for the cross of Christ.

¹ We must pay closer attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

¹⁰ God is not unjust. He will not forget your work and the love you have shown for His name as you have ministered to the saints and continue to do so.

²⁶ He thought that being insulted for the sake of the Messiah was of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

⁸ Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may receive a full reward.

³⁰ Then he said, I have sinned, yet please honour me now before the elders of my people and before Israel; come back with me so that I may worship the LORD your God.

¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ if I have eaten my morsel alone, and have not shared it with the orphan; ¹⁸ for from my youth I reared the orphan like a father, and from my mother's womb I guided the widow. ¹⁹ If I have seen any perishing for want of clothing, or any needy without covering; ²⁰ If his heart has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

²¹ The wicked borrow, and do not pay back, but the righteous give generously.

¹⁷ He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward his dealing to him.

⁶ Many a man proclaims, each one, his kindness, Yet a faithful man who can find?

² Give a portion to seven, yea even to eight, For you do not know what evil may come upon the earth."

¹⁷ Therefore the Lord will have no joy in their young men, neither will have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is a hypocrite and an evil-doer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

⁶ "I send him against a godless nation. I commission him against the people of my fury to capture booty and to seize plunder, and to trample them down like mud (clay) in the streets.

⁷ "Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house? When you see the naked, should you cover him and not hide yourself from your own flesh?

¹⁰ and if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will be like midday. ¹¹ the LORD will continually guide you. He will satisfy your desire in scorched places and give strength to your bones. You will be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail. ¹² Those among you will rebuild the ancient ruins. You will raise up the age-old foundations. You will be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of the streets in which to dwell.

¹ Put to your lips the trumpet like a vulture over the house of the LORD, because they have broken my covenant and rebelled against my law.

¹⁸ For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

⁵ And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.

⁵ You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

⁷ You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you:

³ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but not the signs of the times!

¹⁸ But Jesus, knowing their malice, said, Hypocrites! Why do ye try me?

⁶ "They love the place of honor at banquets and the prominent seats in the synagogues.

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.

¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You traverse land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are. ¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ ¹⁷ You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes it sacred? ¹⁸ And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’ ¹⁹ You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? ²⁰ Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. ²¹ And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the One who dwells in it. ²² And he who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the One who sits on it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You pay tithes of mint, dill, and cumin, but you have disregarded the weightier matters of the Law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. ²⁴ You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. ²⁶ Blind Pharisee, first wash clean the inside of the cup or dish, and then the outside will be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity. ²⁸ In the same way, on the outside you also appear righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. ²⁹ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous.

⁵¹ and he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁶ He told them, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites. As it is written, 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

³⁹ and to have the chief seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.

²⁴ But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.

⁴² How can you say, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while you yourself fail to see the beam in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

⁴¹ So give what is inside to the poor, and then everything will be clean for you.

⁴³ Woe to you Pharisees! Because you love the first seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.

³³ Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide yourselves with purses that will not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.

⁵⁶ You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; but how is it you do not know how to interpret this present time?

¹⁵ Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?

⁴⁶ "Beware of the scribes! They like to walk around in long robes and love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.

⁴¹ I do not accept glory from men,

¹⁸ The man who speaks on his own authority seeks honor for himself; but the man who seeks the honor of him that sent him is sincere, and there is nothing false in him.

²⁹ Since Judas kept the money bag, some thought that Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the feast, or to give something to the poor.

³⁶ In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which is translated as Dorcas), who was always occupied with works of kindness and charity.

² He and all his household were devout and God-fearing. He gave generously to the people and prayed to God regularly.

⁴ Cornelius stared at him in fear and asked, “What is it, Lord?” The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have ascended as a memorial offering before God.

³¹ and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard. God has remembered your gifts to the poor

²⁹ So the disciples, each according to his ability, decided to send relief to the brothers living in Judea.

¹⁷ After several years, then, I returned to Jerusalem to bring alms to my people and to present offerings.

⁸ if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is giving, let him give generously; if it is leading, let him lead with diligence; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

⁶ Consider this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. ⁷ Each one should give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or from compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. ⁹ As it is written: “He has scattered abroad His gifts to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.” ¹⁰ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will multiply the harvest of your righteousness. ¹¹ You will be enriched in everything, so you can be generous, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. ¹² For this ministry of service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanksgiving to God. ¹³ Because your service in giving proves your love, you will be glorifying God as you obey what your confession of the Messiah's gospel demands, since you are generous in sharing with them and with everyone else. ¹⁴ And in their prayers, their hearts will go out to you because of the surpassing grace of God in you. ¹⁵ Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

¹⁰ All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.

²⁸ He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing good with his own hands, that he may have something to share with the one in need.

⁶ or to seek glory from men (whether from you or from others) —as apostles of Christ we could have been ‘heavy’,

¹⁸ Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, and to be generous and ready to share,

⁷ I take great joy and encouragement in your love, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.

¹⁶ And do not neglect to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

¹⁵ Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. ¹⁶ If one of you tells him, “Go in peace; stay warm and well fed,” but does not provide for his physical needs, what good is that?

¹¹ If anyone speaks, he should speak as one conveying the words of God. If anyone serves, he should serve with the strength God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

¹⁷ If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him? ¹⁸ Little children, let us not love in word or tongue but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ —yes, by this we know that we are of the Truth and may put our hearts at ease in His presence,

⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

³⁰ And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one finds out about this!”

¹⁹ He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear His voice in the streets.

⁴⁴ “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and present the offering Moses prescribed for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”

⁴ For no one who wants to be known publicly acts in secret. Since You are doing these things, show Yourself to the world.”

³⁰ Therefore the LORD the God of Israel says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before Me forever'. But now the LORD says, 'Far be it from Me. Those who honour Me I will honour, and those who despise Me shall be despised.

³ You have tried my heart; you have examined me by night; you have tested me; you found nothing. I have decided that my mouth will not transgress.

²¹ would not God discover this, for he knows the secrets of the heart?

¹ For the music director. Of David. A psalm. O LORD, you have searched me, and you know me. ² You know when I sit down and when I rise up. You understand my thought from afar. ³ Thou measurest my going about and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

¹² even the darkness doesn’t hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you.

¹⁰ "I, the LORD, search the heart and examine the mind (inner man). I give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.

²⁴ Can any hide himself in secret places so that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

⁶ But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

¹⁸ so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

⁴² And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”

³⁴ Then the King will say to those at His right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. ³⁵ For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, ³⁶ I was unclothed and you clothed me, I was ill and you looked after me, I was in prison and you visited me.' ³⁷ Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? ³⁸ When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? ³⁹ When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' ⁴⁰ And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

¹⁷ For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing concealed that will not be known and illuminated.

¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you—you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the proper time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

¹³ Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

²⁴ Now to Him who is able to keep them from stumbling and to present them before His glorious presence without fault and with exultation—

²³ Then I will strike her children dead, and all the churches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

⁸ For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life? ⁹ "Does God listen to his cry when distress comes upon him? ¹⁰ "Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?

² Listen to the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.

¹⁷ Evening, morning, and at noon, I will cry out in distress. He will hear my voice.

⁸ The LORD abhorreth the sacrifice of the ungodly; but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable to him.

⁵ The LORD detests those who are proud; truly they will not go unpunished.

¹⁵ "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you. Even though you offer many prayers, I will not listen because your hands are full of blood.

⁶ Seek the LORD while he may be found. Call on him while he is near. ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

¹² And you will call upon me and you will go and pray to me and I will listen to you.

¹⁰ When Daniel learned that the written document had been signed, he went to an upstairs room in his house that had windows opened facing Jerusalem. Three times a day he would kneel down, pray, and give thanks to his God, just as he had previously done.

⁴ I prayed to the LORD my God, and made this confession, "O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments. ⁵ We have sinned, and have done what is wrong and wicked, and have rebelled, even turning aside from your commandments and from your ordinances. ⁶ "We have not listened to your servants the prophets who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. ⁷ O Lord, righteousness is yours, but shame is on us, even to this day; and on the men of Judah and the people of Jerusalem, and on all Israel, those who are near and those who are far off, in all the countries where you have sent them because of the sin which they have done against you. ⁸ "O LORD, to us belongs shame, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you. ⁹ To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; ¹⁰ and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God by walking in his laws that he gave us through his servants the prophets. ¹¹ "And all Israel transgressed your law and turned aside so as not to listen to your voice, and so the curse and the oath which was written in the law of Moses, the servant of God, has been poured out upon us, because we have sinned against him. ¹² He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us, and against our rulers who ruled us, by bringing on us a great calamity; for under the whole heaven such has not been done as has been done on Jerusalem. ¹³ As it's written in the Law of Moses, all this calamity has befallen us, but we still haven't sought the LORD our God by turning from our lawlessness to pay attention to your truth. ¹⁴ So the LORD watched for the right time to bring the calamity upon us, because the LORD our God is righteous regarding everything he does, but we have not obeyed his voice. ¹⁵ And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and made for Yourself a name, as it is this day; we have sinned; we have done evilly. ¹⁶ Lord, in view of all your righteous acts, please turn your anger and wrath away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain. Because of our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors, Jerusalem and your people have become an embarrassment to all of those around us. ¹⁷ So now, O God, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his requests, and look with favor on your desolate sanctuary, for the sake of the Lord. ¹⁸ My God, turn your ear, and hear; open your eyes, and see our desolation, and the city which is called by your name. For we do not present our petitions before you for our righteousness, but for your great mercy. ¹⁹ O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and do. Defer not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.

² So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.

⁷ Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. ⁸ For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

³⁸ Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.”

²² If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask in prayer.”

²⁵ And when you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive it, so that your Father in Heaven may also forgive your sins.

³⁸ As he taught, he said, "Beware of the scribes! They like to walk around in long robes, to be greeted in the marketplaces,

¹² Then he said to his host, When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers, your kinsmen, or your rich neighbours; lest they invite you in return, and you are repaid. ¹³ But whenever you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; ¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you—you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

¹ Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and never despair.

¹⁰ "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

¹³ But the tax-collector stood at a distance and would not even lift his eyes to heaven, but continued to beat his breast, and say, 'O God, have mercy on me, a sinner!'

⁴⁷ who ‘devour’ widows’ houses, and for a show make long prayers. These will receive more severe judgment.”

²⁴ Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

¹⁸ Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.

² Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful, ³ And pray for us as well, that God may open a door to us for the word, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains,

¹⁷ Pray continually!

⁶ But He gives us more grace. This is why it says: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

¹⁵ And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. ¹⁶ Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

²⁴ And Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him till the morning. ²⁵ And when he saw that he could not prevail against him, he struck his hip socket, so that Jacob's hip socket was sprained as he wrestled with him. ²⁶ The man said, "Let me go, for the day breaks." Jacob said, "I won't let you go, unless you bless me." ²⁷ Then he asked: "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." ²⁸ And he said, Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel: for in your fight with God and with men you have overcome. ²⁹ Jacob said: "Please tell me your name." The man answered: "Why do you ask for my name?" Then he blessed Jacob there.

³³ And he went in and shut the door on the two of them, and prayed to the LORD.

¹⁵ The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.

²⁰ Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you. Hide yourselves for a little while until his rage has passed by.

²⁴ "Before they call I will answer! While they are still speaking I will hear.

⁴ so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

²³ And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,

³⁶ Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." ³⁷ He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. ³⁸ Then He said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.” ³⁹ Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”

⁴⁸ Nathanael said to him, Whence do you know me? Jesus answered, I saw you when you were under the fig tree, before Philip called you.

¹⁷ Jesus said to her, "Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers, and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"

⁴⁰ Then Peter sent them all out of the room. He knelt down and prayed, and turning toward her body, he said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up.

⁹ Around noon the next day, while they were on their way and coming close to the town, Peter went up on the roof to pray.

³⁰ Cornelius answered: “Four days ago, I was in my house praying at this, the ninth hour. Suddenly a man in radiant clothing stood before me

⁵ Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

¹⁴ For this reason I kneel before the Father

²⁶ »So now, O God of Israel, let your word come true that you promised to my father David, your servant. ²⁷ But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain you. How much less this house that I have built! ²⁸ Pay attention to the prayer of your servant and to his request, LORD my God, and listen to the cry and prayer that your servant is praying in your presence today. ²⁹ that your eyes be open toward this house night and day - toward the place of which you say, My name is there: to hearken to the prayer your servant prays toward this place: ³⁰ Listen to the supplication of your servant, and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Yes, hear in heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive. ³¹ "If a man should sin against his neighbor and he is required to take an oath, and he then comes to take an oath in front of your altar in this temple, ³² then hear in heaven, and act, and judge your servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness. ³³ When your people Israel are defeated before the enemy, because they have sinned against you, and shall turn again to you, and confess your name, and pray, and make supplication unto you in this house: ³⁴ then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them again to the land which you gave to their fathers. ³⁵ When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, because thou hast afflicted them; ³⁶ then hear in the heavens and forgive the sin of your servants and of your people Yisra El to direct them the good way to walk and give rain on the land you gave to your people for an inheritance. ³⁷ When there is famine in the land or pestilence or blasting or mildew or locusts or caterpillars, if their enemy besieges them in the land of their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is, ³⁸ Whatsoever prayer and supplication be made by any man, or by all your people Israel, who shall know every man the affliction of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house: ³⁹ then hear from heaven, the place where you reside, and forgive, repaying each person according to all of his ways, since you know their hearts for you alone know the hearts of all human beings ⁴⁰ that they may fear you all the days that they live in the land which you gave to our fathers. ⁴¹ Also for the foreigner who is not from your people Israel, and he comes from a distant land because of your name, ⁴² (for they shall hear of your great name, and of your mighty hand, and of your outstretched arm); when he comes and prays toward this house; ⁴³ then hear in heaven where you reside, and do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the people of the earth may know your name, fear you as do your people Israel, and so they may know that this temple that I have built is called by your name. ⁴⁴ »When your people go to war against their enemies, they pray to you, O the LORD, toward the city you have chosen and the temple I built for your name. ⁴⁵ then hear in Heaven their prayer and their cry, and maintain their cause. ⁴⁶ "If they sin against you (for there is not a person who does not sin) and you are angry with them and you give them to an enemy and they take them captive to the land of the enemy far or near, ⁴⁷ yet if they shall think within themselves in the land where they are carried captives, and repent, and pray to You in the land of their captors saying, We have sinned and have done perversely, we have done wickedly, ⁴⁸ and return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who captured them; and pray to you toward the land you gave their fathers - the city you chose and the house I built for your name: ⁴⁹ then in heaven, the place where you live, hear their prayer for mercy. Do what is right for them. ⁵⁰ »Forgive your people, who have sinned against you. Forgive all their wrongs when they rebelled against you. Cause those who captured them to have mercy on them. ⁵¹ (for they are your people, and your inheritance, which you brought out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace); ⁵² Let your eyes be open to your servant's prayer for grace and to the prayer of your people Israel, hearing them when their cry comes to you. ⁵³ "You the LORD set them apart from all the people of the world. They are your own as you promised through your servant Moses when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt." ⁵⁴ When Solomon had finished all this prayer and supplication to the Lord, he arose from before the altar of the Lord [for he had kneeled down on his knees and spread forth his hands towards heaven]

²⁶ So they took the ox that was given to them, prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from early morning until noon. "Baal! Answer us!" they cried. But there was no response. Nobody answered. So they kept on dancing around the altar that they had made. ²⁷ At noon, Elijah mocked them, and said, “Cry aloud; for he is a god. Either he is deep in thought, or he has gone somewhere, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleeps and must be awakened.” ²⁸ So they called out with a loud voice, and they cut themselves with swords and with spears as was their custom, until the blood poured out over them. ²⁹ When midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the evening offering; but there was no voice, no answer, and nobody paid attention.

² Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and you on earth. Therefore let your words be few. ³ For a dream comes with many cares, and the voice of a fool with many words.

⁷ For in many dreams and vanities, there are many words; Therefore fear the One, Elohim."

³² For the pagans pursue all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them.

¹⁷ If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, regard him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

³⁹ Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”

⁴² He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if this cup cannot go away unless I drink it, let your will be done."

⁴⁴ So He left them and went away once more and prayed a third time, saying the same thing.

³⁴ But when they realized he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison for about two hours, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

⁹ O Lord, all my longing is before you, and my sighing is not hidden from you.

¹⁷ Do not hide your face from your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me speedily. ¹⁸ Draw near and redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies. ¹⁹ You know my reproach and my shame, and my dishonor; my enemies are all before You.

³⁰ For the nations of the world strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them.

²³ In that day you will no longer ask Me anything. Truly, truly, I tell you, whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you. ²⁴ Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. ²⁵ "I have said these things to you in figurative language. The time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but will tell you plainly about the Father. ²⁶ In that day you will ask in My name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. ²⁷ for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

³ Therefore Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke, saying, 'Among those who are close to me I will show myself holy, and in the presence of all the people I will display my glory.'" So Aaron was silent.

²⁶ Your name shall be great forever, and they will say, 'the LORD Almighty is God over Israel'; and the house of your servant David shall be established before you.

⁴³ then hear in heaven where you reside, and do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the people of the earth may know your name, fear you as do your people Israel, and so they may know that this temple that I have built is called by your name.

²⁴ "It will be established and your name will be great forever. Then men will say: "the LORD Almighty, the God over Israel, is Israel's God! And the house of your servant David will be established before you.

⁶ and he said, "O LORD, the God of our fathers, aren't you God in heaven? Aren't you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.

⁵ Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah and Pethahiah said, Stand up and bless the LORD your God from everlasting to everlasting! Blessed be Your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise!

¹⁸ Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds.

⁹ He sent redemption unto his people: he has commanded his covenant forever: holy and awesome is his name.

³ Our God is in heaven. He does whatever he pleases.

³ They called to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty. All the earth is full of his glory."

²⁰ "Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand. That way all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O LORD, are God.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy: "I reside in a high and holy place, and with the contrite and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

¹⁶ For you are our father, although Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us. You, the LORD are our father, Our Redeemer from of old is your name.

⁸ But now, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay and you our potter and we are all the work of your hand.

¹ the LORD says, “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build to me? Where will I rest?

²³ I will sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD,” says the Sovereign LORD, “when I am proven holy in you before their eyes.

²³ And I will magnify myself and sanctify myself and I will make myself known in the eyes of many nations. And they will know that I am the LORD.

¹⁴ For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

⁹ The LORD will be king over all the earth at that time. There will be one LORD, and his name the only one.

¹¹ For from the east to the west, My name shall be great among the nations, and everywhere incense shall be offered to My name; and a pure food offering; for My name shall be great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts.

⁴⁸ Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.

¹⁴ For if you forgive men their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

¹¹ If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

²⁹ Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.

⁹ And do not call anyone on earth your father, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.

²⁹ I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."

¹⁴ “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests!”

¹ Once Jesus was praying in a certain place. After he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples." ² He said to them, "When you pray, say: 'Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. ³ Give us each day our daily bread. ⁴ And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’”

¹⁸ I will get up and go back to my father and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.

²¹ then the son said to him, father, I have sinned against heaven, and against you, I am no longer worthy to be called your son.

⁷ To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁵ For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of sonship, in which we cry, Abba, Father.

¹ Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead—

⁶ Because you are sons, God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

¹⁶ who alone has immortality, residing in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen or can see; to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

¹⁷ Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives in reverent fear during your temporary stay on earth.

¹¹ You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for you have created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.

¹² In a loud voice they said: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!”

⁶ "You alone are the LORD. You alone have made the heavens, the heavens of the heavens, and all of their army, the earth and all that is in it, the waters and all that is in them. You give life to all of them, and the army of the heavens worship you.

⁶ "But I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy hill."

⁸ I delight to do your will, O my God: yes, your law is within my heart.

¹⁹ The LORD has established his throne in heaven and his kingdom rules over all. ²⁰ Bless the LORD, you his angels, you mighty heroes who do his word by obeying the sound of his word. ²¹ Bless the LORD, all you his hosts, you his attendants who do his will.

² In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the highest of the mountains and exalted above the hills. All the nations will stream to it.

⁵ "The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch. He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.

⁴⁴ “In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left to another people; but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.

³⁵ And all the people of the earth are as nothing: he does his pleasure in the army of heaven and among the people of the earth: and no one is able to keep back his hand, or say to him, What are you doing?

¹³ I beheld in the night vision, and behold, One like the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven, and He came to the Ancient of Days, and was brought near to Him.

²⁷ And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, will be given to the people of the holy ones of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and all dominions will serve and obey him.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion. Shout, daughter of Jerusalem. Look, your king comes to you. He is righteous, and having salvation; lowly, and riding on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

² and saying, "Repent! For the kingdom of heaven is near."

¹⁷ From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

²¹ "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.

⁵⁰ For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."

²⁸ Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”

³⁵ Whoever does the will of God is my brother, and sister, and mother."

¹⁰ Blessed, is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!

¹¹ Now while they were listening to these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and they thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately.

³⁸ Blessed is the King that comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!

⁴² “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.”

³⁴ "My food," replied Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me, and to complete his work.

⁴⁰ For it is My Father’s will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

¹⁷ If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether My teaching is from God or whether I speak on My own.

²² After removing Saul, He raised up David as their king and testified about him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after My own heart; he will carry out My will in its entirety.’

¹⁴ When he would not be dissuaded, we fell silent and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”

¹⁴ Then he said: ‘The God of our fathers has chosen you to know His will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear words from His mouth.

² Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.

⁶ And do this not only to please them while they are watching, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.

⁹ For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

¹³ He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son,

³ For it is God’s will that you should be dedicated to Him, [that is], you should avoid sexual immorality.

¹⁸ give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

¹⁴ Are not the angels ministering spirits, sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

⁷ Then I said, ‘Here I am, it is written about Me in the scroll: I have come to do Your will, O God.’”

³⁶ You need to persevere, so that after you have done God’s will, you will receive what He has promised.

²¹ equip you with every good thing to do His will. And may He accomplish in us what is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

¹⁵ For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorance of foolish men.

² so that he can live the rest of his mortal life guided, not by human desires, but by the will of God.

¹⁵ Then the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."

¹⁰ And I heard a great voice in heaven, saying: Now has come the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren, he that accused them before our God day and night, is cast down.

⁶ Then I heard what sounded like the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.

⁴ Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom judgment was given. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony to Jesus and because of the word of God, and who had not worshipped the beast or his image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life, and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

¹⁶ This is what the LORD has commanded: "Each man should gather according to what he can eat. You shall take two quarts for each person in your tent." ¹⁷ The Israelites did this, some gathering much, some little. ¹⁸ They measured it. Those who gathered much did not have too much. Some who gathered less did not have too little. Each had gathered just what he needed. ¹⁹ Then Moses said to them, "No one is to leave any of it until morning." ²⁰ Some of them did not listen to Moses and saved part of it. The next morning it was full of worms and smelled rotten. Moses was angry with them. ²¹ Every morning each one gathered as much as he needed. When the sun grew hot, what was left on the ground melted. ²² On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one; and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. ²³ and he told them, "This is what the LORD said: 'Tomorrow is a Sabbath observance, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil, and put aside whatever remains to be kept for yourselves until morning.'" ²⁴ And they laid it up until the morning, as Moses commanded. And it did not stink and no maggot was in it. ²⁵ And Moses said, Eat that today, because today is a Sabbath to the LORD. Today you will not find it in the field. ²⁶ For six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there won't be any." ²⁷ And it came to pass, that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, and they found none. ²⁸ Then the LORD said to Moses, "How long will you people refuse to keep my commandments and my instructions? ²⁹ You see that the LORD has given you the Sabbath, and so on the sixth day he gives you food for two days. Let each person stay where he is; let no one leave his place on the seventh day." ³⁰ So the people rested on the seventh day. ³¹ The Israelites named it "manna." It was white like coriander seed, and tasted like a wafer made with honey. ³² And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD has commanded: Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread that I gave you to eat in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt. ³³ And Moses said to Aaron, Take a pot and put an omer full of manna in it, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations. ³⁴ As the Lord commanded Moses so Aaron laid it up before the testimony that it might be kept. ³⁵ The Israelites ate manna for 40 years until they came to a land where they could settle. They ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

¹² "I have not departed from the command of his lips. I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

¹⁸ Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope for his loyal love ¹⁹ to deliver their soul from death, to keep them alive in famine.

¹⁰ Young lions lack and go hungry, but those who seek the LORD will never lack any good thing.

⁸ vanity and words of lies, remove far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches; tear my statute bread for me;

¹⁶ This man will dwell on the heights. His refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and he will have water.

⁴ But he answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.' "

³ Give us each day our daily bread.

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the desert as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.' " ³² Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." ³⁴ "Sir," they said, "always give us that bread." ³⁵ Jesus said, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to me will never be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty again. ³⁶ But as I told you, you have seen Me and still you do not believe. ³⁷ All that the Father gives me will come to me, and him who comes to me I will not cast away; ³⁸ For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but to do the will of Him who sent Me. ³⁹ And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall lose none of those He has given Me, but raise them up at the last day. ⁴⁰ For it is My Father’s will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” ⁴¹ Now the Jews began to grumble about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven," ⁴² And they said: Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, I came down out of Heaven? ⁴³ “Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus replied. ⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets: ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from Him comes to Me— ⁴⁶ not that anyone has seen the Father except the One who is from God; only He has seen the Father. ⁴⁷ Truly, truly, I tell you, he who believes has everlasting life. ⁴⁸ I am the bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your forefathers ate the manna in the Desert, and they died. ⁵⁰ Here is the bread that comes down out of Heaven that a man may eat it and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh.” ⁵² Then the Jews began to argue among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" ⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, I tell you most truly, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ for my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. ⁵⁶ Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will live because of me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down from heaven: not as the fathers ate manna, and died: he who eats this bread shall live forever. ⁵⁹ He said this while teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum.

¹² Such we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and eat their own bread.

⁸ But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these.

⁷ "He graciously loves thousands, and forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin. But he does not leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of the ancestors on their children, and on their children's children to the third and fourth generation."

³⁰ Listen to the supplication of your servant, and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Yes, hear in heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive.

³⁴ then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them again to the land which you gave to their fathers.

³⁹ then hear from heaven, the place where you reside, and forgive, repaying each person according to all of his ways, since you know their hearts for you alone know the hearts of all human beings

⁵⁰ »Forgive your people, who have sinned against you. Forgive all their wrongs when they rebelled against you. Cause those who captured them to have mercy on them.

¹² So they said, "We will restore it and will not request anything more. So we will do as you say." Then I called the priests and made them take an oath to do this promise. ¹³ Shaking out the folds of my robe, I said: "So, may God send out from his house and his work every man who does not keep this agreement. Even so let him be sent out and made as nothing." All the people said: "Amen!" They praised the LORD. The people did as they said.

¹ {Of David. Instruction.} Blessed is he [whose] transgression is forgiven, [whose] sin is covered!

⁴ But with you there is forgiveness, so that you may be feared.

¹⁸ "Come now, and let us reason together," says the LORD: "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

¹⁹ O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and do. Defer not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.

¹⁴ For if you forgive men their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ »If you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

²¹ Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times?” ²² Jesus answered, “I tell you, not just seven times, but seventy-seven times! ²³ Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a king, who was minded to settle accounts with his servants. ²⁴ And as he began to settle up, one debtor of ten thousand talents was brought to him. ²⁵ And as he was not able to pay, his master ordered that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. ²⁶ Then the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Have patience with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ ²⁷ His master had compassion on him, forgave his debt, and released him. ²⁸ But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay back what you owe me.’ ²⁹ So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you back.' ³⁰ But he refused. Instead, he went and had him thrown into prison until he could pay his debt. ³¹ When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and went and told their master all that had happened. ³² Then his master called for him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I canceled all of your debt because you begged me to. ³³ Should you not have had mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had on you?’ ³⁴ In his anger, his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should repay all that he owed. ³⁵ That is how My Heavenly Father will treat each of you, unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”

³⁷ Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

⁴⁰ But Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, Teacher,” he said. ⁴¹ “Two men were debtors to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. ⁴² When they were not able to repay him, he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?" ⁴³ “I suppose the one who was forgiven more,” Simon replied. “You have judged correctly.” Jesus said. ⁴⁴ And turning toward the woman, he said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered into your house. You did not give me water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. ⁴⁵ You didn't give me a kiss, but this woman, from the moment I came in, has not stopped kissing my feet. ⁴⁶ You put no oil on my head: but she has put perfume on my feet. ⁴⁷ Therefore I tell you, because her many sins have been forgiven, she has loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.” ⁴⁸ Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

⁴ And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’”

³ "Watch yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. ⁴ And if he should offend you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn to you and say, I repent; forgive him. ⁵ The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith."

³⁸ Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.

⁷ In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

³² Be kind and tender-hearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.

¹³ Bear with each other and forgive any complaint you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. ⁸ If we say we have not sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

¹ After these things, God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” He said, “Here I am.”

¹⁸ The LORD will reign forever and ever."

²² "'May this water that can bring a curse go into your body and make your stomach swell and your uterus drop!'" Then the woman will say: "Amen!" "Amen!"

² "Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way these 40 years in the desert, to humble and test you in order to make known what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

¹⁶ and fed you in the desert with manna that neither you nor your ancestors had known, to humble and test you so that things go well with you later.

¹⁵ Cursed is the man who makes any image of wood or stone or metal, disgusting to the Lord, the work of man's hands, and puts it up in secret. And let all the people say, So be it. ¹⁶ Cursed is he who dishonors his father or his mother! And all the people shall say, Amen! ¹⁷ "'Cursed is he who moves his neighbor's boundary mark. All the people will say: Amen. ¹⁸ 'Cursed is he who leads the blind astray on the road.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ¹⁹ 'Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, fatherless, and widow.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²⁰ 'Cursed is he who lies with his father's wife, because he dishonors his father's bed.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²¹ 'Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with any animal. "Then all the people will respond by saying, 'Amen!' ²² 'Cursed be the one who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²³ Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law! And all the people shall say, Amen! ²⁴ Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor secretly! And all the people shall say, Amen! ²⁵ 'Cursed is he who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²⁶ 'Cursed is he who doesn't uphold the words of this law by doing them.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'”

³⁶ Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, "Amen. May the LORD, the God of my lord the king, say so.

¹⁰ Jabez cried out to the God of Israel: Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain. And God granted his request.

³⁶ Blessed be the LORD the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting!" Then all the people said, "Amen!" and praised the LORD.

¹¹ Yours, O Lord, is the strength and the power and the glory, and the authority and the honour: for everything in heaven and on earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are lifted up as head over all.

¹⁶ The LORD is king forever and ever; nations will perish from his land.

¹³ Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.

² (47:3) For the LORD is most high, awful; a great King over all the earth.

⁷ For God is the king of all the earth; sing a psalm for edification.

¹⁹ Blessed be to his glorious name forever. May the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen!

⁵² Blessed be the LORD forever. Amen and Amen.

⁴⁸ Thanks be to the LORD the God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say amen. Praise the LORD!

⁷ The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. ⁸ The LORD will guard your goings and comings, from this time on and forever.

¹⁰ All your works will give thanks to you, the LORD. Your saints will extol you. ¹¹ They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your might; ¹² To make known to the children of men his mighty acts, and the glorious splendour of his kingdom. ¹³ Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. Your dominion endures throughout all generations. the LORD is faithful in all his words, and loving in all his deeds.

²¹ "I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked. I will redeem you from the grasp of the cruel."

⁶ even the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen. May the LORD do so. May the LORD confirm your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD's house, and all that is exiled from Babylon into this place.

²⁵ You will be driven from men. Your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will eat grass like oxen and will be wet with the dew of heaven. Seven times shall pass over you until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

³⁴ "At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven and my understanding returned to me. I blessed the Most High and I praised and honored the one who lives forever. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation. ³⁵ And all the people of the earth are as nothing: he does his pleasure in the army of heaven and among the people of the earth: and no one is able to keep back his hand, or say to him, What are you doing?

¹⁸ But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.'

³⁷ Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.

¹⁰ Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

⁴¹ “Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”

²⁰ and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

³¹ Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. ³² But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” ³³ But he said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death." ³⁴ But Jesus said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you deny three times that you know me." ³⁵ Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you out without purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered. ³⁶ He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it, and likewise a bag; and let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one. ³⁷ For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about Me is reaching its fulfillment.” ³⁸ So they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” “That is enough,” He answered. ³⁹ Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed Him. ⁴⁰ When he was at the place, he said to them, "Pray that you do not enter into temptation." ⁴¹ And He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, where He knelt down and prayed, ⁴² “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.” ⁴³ Then an angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. ⁴⁴ And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground. ⁴⁵ When Jesus rose from prayer and returned to the disciples, He found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. ⁴⁶ “Why are you sleeping?” He asked. “Get up and pray so that you will not enter into temptation.”

¹⁵ I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one.

¹³ No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.

¹⁶ If you thank God with the spirit, how shall he who fills the place of the ordinary man say Amen to your thanksgiving? For he does not know what you are saying.

²⁰ For all the promises of God are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him, our “Amen” is spoken to the glory of God.

⁷ And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me. ⁸ Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. ⁹ But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.

⁴ who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

¹⁰ and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, Jesus, who delivers us from the coming wrath.

³ But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

¹⁷ Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁵ Which he will bring about in his own time, he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; ¹⁶ who alone has immortality, residing in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen or can see; to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen. ¹⁷ Charge the rich of this world not to be arrogant, nor to set their hopes on such an uncertain thing as riches, but on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth. ¹⁸ The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁴ Therefore, since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil, ¹⁵ and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

³⁶ Others endured mockings and scourgings, still others were delivered to bonds and imprisonment:

⁸ Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

⁹ if all this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.

⁸ He who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

¹⁸ We know that anyone born of God does not keep on sinning; the One who was born of God protects him, and the evil one cannot touch him. ¹⁹ We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the power of the evil one.

¹⁸ the Living One. I was dead, and behold, now I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of Death and of Hades.

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will suffer tribulation for ten days. Be faithful even unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

¹⁰ Because you have kept My command to endure with patience, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.

¹⁴ To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Originator of God’s creation.

¹³ And I heard every creature in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever.”

¹⁴ I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. ¹⁶ Never again will they hunger, never again will they thirst, never shall the sun strike them, nor any scorching heat;" ¹⁷ For the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

¹ After this I heard a sound like the roar of a great multitude in heaven, shouting: “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God!

⁴ The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures bowed down and worshiped God, who was sitting on the throne. They said, "Amen! Hallelujah!"

⁴ He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”

¹³ Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he also will cry, but will not be heard.

¹² And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors;

² For with the same judgment you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

¹³ For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil; for every one who does not work righteousness is not a child of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

³⁵ That is how My Heavenly Father will treat each of you, unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”

¹⁶ David begged God on behalf of the youngster. He fasted, went inside, and spent the night lying on the ground.

²¹ His staff asked him, "What's this about? When the child was alive, you fasted and cried. Now that the child has died, you get up and eat!"

²⁷ When Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

⁴ When I heard these words, I sat down and wept, and mourned several days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,

¹⁶ “Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Susa, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”

¹³ But when they were sick, I wore sackcloth. I humbled myself with fasting. My prayer returned unanswered.

¹⁰ I weep and fast, and I am mocked for it.

²⁴ My knees are weak through fasting, my body is thin and lacks fat.

³ "'Why have we fasted and you do not see? Why have we humbled ourselves and you do not notice? Behold, on the day of your fast you find desire, and mistreat all your workers.' ⁴ Look! You fast to quarrel and strife, and to strike with a wicked fist. You shall not fast as you do today, to make your voice heard on the height. ⁵ Is this the fast that I have chosen? A day for a man to humble his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under himself? Will you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?

³ And I turned to the Lord God, to seek by prayer and petitions, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.

³ saying to the priests of the house of the LORD of hosts and to the prophets, "Should I mourn in the fifth month and keep myself separate as I have done for these many years?" ⁴ Then came the word of the LORD Almighty to me: ⁵ "Say to all the people of the land and to the priests: 'When you fasted and lamented in the fifth and seventh months for these seventy years, did you really fast for me?

¹⁴ You have said, 'It is useless to serve God! What is the gain if we keep his requirements, and if we walk as mourners before the LORD of hosts?

¹⁴ Then John's disciples came to him, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?" ¹⁵ Jesus replied, “How can the attendants of the bridegroom mourn while He is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them; then they will fast.

¹⁸ Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were keeping a fast, and people came and asked Jesus: "Why is it that John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, while yours do not?"

³⁷ and then was a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.

¹² I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all that I get.'

² While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul, for the work to which I have called them." ³ So after they had fasted and prayed, they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

²³ Paul and Barnabus appointed elders for them in each church, and with prayer and fasting they entrusted them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

⁵ Do not deprive one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

⁵ in beatings, imprisonments, and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights, and hunger;

²⁷ in labor and toil and often without sleep, in hunger and thirst and often without food, in cold and exposure.

³ "Wash and perfume yourself and put on your best clothes. Go down to the floor. Make yourself known to the man after he is done eating and drinking.

²⁰ David stood up from the ground and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothing. Then he went to the house of the LORD and worshiped, and he went to his own house. He asked, so they served him food, and he ate.

² Joab sent someone to Tekoa to get a wise woman from there. He told her: "Please act like a mourner. Dress in mourning clothes. Do not use any cosmetic lotions. Act like a woman who has been mourning for the dead for a long time.

⁸ Always be clothed in white garments, and never let your head lack oil!

² At the same time, I, Daniel, mourned for the space of three weeks, ³ I had no pleasing food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, and I put no oil on my body till three full weeks were ended.

⁶ For he will render to everyone according to what he has done,

⁹ So we aspire to please Him, whether we are here in this body or away from it.

¹⁸ For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

²² Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with sincerity of heart and fear of the Lord. ²³ Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as work for the Lord and not for men, ²⁴ because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

⁷ so that your tested faith, much more precious than gold that perishes though tested by fire, may be found to your praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed,

¹³ Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to the king as the supreme authority,

²⁴ "If I've put my confidence in gold, if I've said to gold, 'You're my security,'

⁶ Surely every man walks in a shadow. Surely they are in an uproar in vain. He heaps up and does not know who will gather them.

¹⁰ Do not trust in oppression. Do not become vain in robbery. If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

⁴ Wealth cannot profit on the day of wrath; but righteousness deliver from death.

¹⁶ How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding instead of silver!

⁴ Do not weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint. ⁵ When you fix your gaze on it, it's gone, for it sprouts wings for itself and flies to the sky like an eagle.

²⁶ For to the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who pleases God. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.

¹⁰ Whoever loves money is not satisfied with money, and whoever loves wealth is not satisfied with profit. This also is vanity! ¹¹ When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to see them? ¹² The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep. ¹³ There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth hoarded by its owner to his harm. ¹⁴ Those riches perish by misfortune, and if he has fathered a son, there is nothing in his hand.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.

²¹ Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”

²¹ This is how it will be for anyone who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich toward God.”

²² Now when Jesus heard this, he said to him, You still lack one thing: sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

²⁴ Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!

⁸ But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these. ⁹ But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

¹⁷ Charge the rich of this world not to be arrogant, nor to set their hopes on such an uncertain thing as riches, but on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

⁵ Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”

¹ Come on now, you rich people, cry and wail over the miseries that are coming upon you. ² Your wealth has rotted and moths have eaten your clothing. ³ Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. You have hoarded treasure in the last days.

¹⁵ Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For the things in the world--the cravings of the earthly nature, the cravings of the eyes, the show and pride of life--they all come, not from the Father, but from the world.

⁶ He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge. Respect for the LORD is the key to this treasure.

¹⁹ treasuring up for themselves a firm foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

³⁴ You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you yourselves had a better and permanent possession.

⁵ Listen, my dearly loved brothers; did not God choose those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be wealthy in faith and to inherit the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

⁴ and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you,

⁴ And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

⁹ I know your tribulation and your poverty, (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say they are Jews, and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

²³ Above all else, guard thy heart; for out of it flows the issues of life.

¹⁴ "O Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart so that you may be saved. How long will your wicked thoughts lodge within you?

¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not, Except on your dishonest gain, And on shedding of innocent blood, And on oppression, and on doing of violence."

³⁴ You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.

³⁴ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

²¹ You have no part or share in our ministry, because your heart is not right before God.

⁵ For when we lived according to the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the Law were at work in our bodies, bearing fruit for death. ⁶ But now, by dying to what once held us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code. ⁷ What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "You shall not covet."

¹⁸ So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

¹ Since then you have been raised with Christ, aim at what is above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God; ² Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ³ For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

³ Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁹ I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand, I will pay it backnot to mention that you owe me even your own self.

¹² See to it, my brothers, that no one of you has a wicked, unbelieving heart, that turns away from the ever-living God,

³⁴ Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. ³⁵ Be careful, then, that the light within you is not darkness. ³⁶ If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light."

⁴⁶ And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they ate together with glad and sincere hearts,

³ But I am afraid that just as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

⁵ Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear and sincerity of heart, just as you would show to Christ.

²² Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with sincerity of heart and fear of the Lord.

¹² Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

²⁰ Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! ²¹ Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

²⁰ To the Law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because no light is in them.

¹⁸ They know not, they understand not; for their eyes are daubed over, that they cannot see; their hearts, that they cannot understand. ¹⁹ No one stops to think. No one has enough knowledge or understanding to say: "I burned half of the wood in the fire. I also baked bread over its coals. I roasted meat and ate it. Now I am making the rest of the wood into a disgusting thing and bowing to a block of wood." ²⁰ He feeds on ashes; a deceived mind misleads him. And he cannot save himself, and he cannot say, "Is this not an illusion in my right hand?"

²² “For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”

⁸ How can you say, "We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us?" But, look, the false pen of the scribes has worked falsely. ⁹ The wise men will be put to shame. They'll be dismayed and taken captive. Look, they have rejected the word of the LORD! So what kind of wisdom do they have?

²² The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?'

¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ ¹⁷ You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes it sacred? ¹⁸ And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’ ¹⁹ You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? ²⁰ Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. ²¹ And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the One who dwells in it. ²² And he who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the One who sits on it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You pay tithes of mint, dill, and cumin, but you have disregarded the weightier matters of the Law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. ²⁴ You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. ²⁶ Blind Pharisee, first wash clean the inside of the cup or dish, and then the outside will be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity. ²⁸ In the same way, on the outside you also appear righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

²² Greed, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, haughtiness, folly;

¹⁰ He replied, “The knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, ‘Though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.’

³⁹ Then Jesus declared, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind may see and those who see may become blind.” ⁴⁰ Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard this, and they asked Him, “Are we blind too?” ⁴¹ “If you were blind,” Jesus replied, “you would not be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, your guilt remains.”

²² Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools,

¹⁷ But if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the law and boast of your relation to God ¹⁸ if you know His will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the Law; ¹⁹ if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those in darkness, ²⁰ an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the Law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— ²¹ you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? ²² You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? ²³ You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?

¹⁸ For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. ¹⁹ For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” ²⁰ Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

¹⁴ The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

¹⁸ Let no one deceive himself. If any of you thinks he is wise in this age, he should become a fool, so that he may become wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness.”

¹⁸ They are darkened in their understanding and alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their hearts.

⁸ For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,

¹¹ But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness. He does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

¹⁷ You say, ‘I am rich; I have grown wealthy and need nothing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. ¹⁸ I advise you to buy of me gold that has been refined in the fire, so that you may become rich, and white clothes to put on, to hide your shameful nakedness, and salve to put on your eyes, to make you see.

¹⁵ And if it seems evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods whom your fathers served Beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

¹⁹ Joshua said to the people, You can't serve the LORD; for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God. He will not forgive your disobedience nor your sins. ²⁰ If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, he will turn and bring disaster to you; he will destroy you after he has done good to you."

³ And Samuel said to all the house of Israel, saying, If you are returning to the LORD with all your heart, put aside the alien gods from among you, and the Ashtoreths. And prepare your heart to the LORD, and serve Him only, and He will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

²¹ Elijah came near to all the people, and said, “How long will you waver between the two sides? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” The people didn't say a word.

³³ They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, according to the custom of the nations from where they exiled them. ³⁴ To this day they do after their former customs: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes or after their ordinances, nor after the law and commandment that the LORD commanded the sons of Jacob, whom he named Israel.

⁴¹ Yet these nations feared the Lord and at the same time served their graven images. And even to this day their children and their children's children do as their fathers did.

³⁹ As for you, O house of Israel, thus says the Sovereign LORD: Go you. Serve each one his idols and hereafter also, if you will not listen to me. But you will no more profane my holy name with your gifts and with your idols.

⁵ those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by the LORD and also swear by Malcam,

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan. For it is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

⁹ I tell you, use worldly wealth to make friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, they will welcome you into eternal dwellings.

¹¹ So if you have proved untrustworthy in using your ill-gotten wealth, who will trust you with true riches?

¹³ No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

¹⁶ Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey {— } either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? ¹⁷ But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed. ¹⁸ You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. ¹⁹ I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to escalating wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. ²⁰ For when you were the slaves of sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. ²¹ What fruit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? The outcome of those things is death. ²² But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you reap leads to holiness, and the outcome is eternal life.

¹⁰ Am I now seeking the approval of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.

¹⁰ for Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.

⁴ You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God.

²² Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

²² But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, ‘Raca,’ will be subject to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be subject to the fire of hell. ²³ Therefore if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, ²⁴ leave your gift there before the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. ²⁵ Reconcile quickly with your adversary, while you are still on the way to court. Otherwise he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. ²⁶ Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny. ²⁷ "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery;' ²⁸ But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

²⁷ Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his lifespan? ²⁸ And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin.

³¹ Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'

³⁴ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.

¹⁹ But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say.

²² The seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the worries of this world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

¹⁹ but the cares of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

¹¹ Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Say whatever shall be given you in that hour, for it is not you that will speak but the Holy Spirit.

¹⁴ The seeds that fell among the thorns are those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by the worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and their fruit does not mature.

⁴⁰ But Martha was distracted by all the preparations to be made. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!” ⁴¹ “Martha, Martha,” the Lord replied, “you are worried and upset about many things.

⁴ I tell you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. ⁵ But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear the One who, after you have been killed, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear Him!

⁸ "I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. ⁹ But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God.

¹¹ When you are brought before the synagogues, rulers, and authorities, do not worry about how to defend yourselves or what to say.

²² Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. ²³ Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. ²⁴ Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap; they have no storehouse or barn, yet God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than the birds! ²⁵ Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his lifespan? ²⁶ So if you cannot do this very little thing, why should you worry about the rest? ²⁷ Consider how the lilies grow: They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these. ²⁸ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith! ²⁹ And do not be concerned about what you will eat or drink. Do not worry about it. ³⁰ For the nations of the world strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. ³¹ But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

³² He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, freely give us all things?

³² I want you to be free from concern. The unmarried man is concerned about the work of the Lord, how he can please the Lord.

⁴ No one serving in the military gets mixed up in civilian matters, for his aim is to please his commanding officer.

⁵ Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” ⁶ So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"

⁷ Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.

²⁹ Then God said: "I give you every plant that bears seed on the face of the entire earth. I also give you every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. ³⁰ "Also every beast of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground; everything that has the breath of life in it, I give every green plant for food." It was so. ³¹ God saw all that he had made. It was very good. There was evening, and there was morning, the sixth day.

¹¹ who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?

⁴¹ "Who provides food for the raven when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food?

¹¹ They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild donkeys quench their thirst. ¹² The birds of the sky nest by them, they sing among the branches.

²⁷ They all wait for you to give them their food at the proper time. ²⁸ You give to them; they gather. You open your hand; they are satisfied with good.

¹⁵ The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due time. ¹⁶ You open your hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

⁹ He provides food for the livestock, and for the young ravens when they call.

⁹ Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

²⁹ Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. ³⁰ And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. ³¹ So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

⁶ Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. ⁷ And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

⁵ Behold, you have made my days mere handbreadths. My lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely every man stands as a breath. Selah. ⁶ Surely every man walks in a shadow. Surely they are in an uproar in vain. He heaps up and does not know who will gather them.

¹⁴ I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; and God does it so that they fear before Him.

³⁶ And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black.

²⁵ Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his lifespan? ²⁶ So if you cannot do this very little thing, why should you worry about the rest?

¹⁸ But now God has arranged the members in the body, each one of them, just as he desired.

²⁵ Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

¹⁰ nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the worker is worthy of his food.

¹¹ John replied, “Whoever has two tunics should share with him who has none, and whoever has food should do the same.”

²⁷ Consider how the lilies grow: They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these.

³⁵ Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you out without purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered. ³⁶ He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it, and likewise a bag; and let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one.

⁴ And the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house which he built, ⁵ the food of his table, the seating of his servants, the attendance of his waiters and their attire, his cupbearers, and his stairway by which he went up to the house of the LORD, she was overwhelmed. ⁶ She said to the king: "The report I heard in my country about your acts and your wisdom was true. ⁷ But I did not believe it until I came, and my eyes have seen that not even the half was told me. Thy wisdom and good exceeds the fame which I heard.

⁴ and the food of his table, and the position of his officers, the duty of his servants and their clothing, his cupbearers and their clothing, and his burnt offerings that he offered at the house of the LORD, there was no longer any breath in her. ⁵ She told the king: "What I heard in my country about your words and your wisdom is true! ⁶ but I did not believe their words until I came and saw with my own eyes. And behold, half the greatness of your wisdom was not reported to me; you surpass the rumors that I had heard.

²⁰ All King Solomon's cups were gold. All the utensils for the hall named the Forest of Lebanon were fine gold. Silver was not considered valuable in Solomon's time. ²¹ The king had ships going to Tarshish with Huram's sailors. Once every three years the Tarshish ships would bring gold, silver, ivory, apes, and monkeys. ²² King Solomon was greater in wealth and wisdom than all the other kings of the world.

⁹ and I would have the women dress becomingly, with modesty and self-control, not with plaited hair or gold or pearls or costly clothes, ¹⁰ but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.

² when they see how pure and reverent you are. ³ Your beauty should not come from outward adornment such as braided hair or gold jewelry or fine clothes, ⁴ but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight. ⁵ For so of old the holy women who hoped in God adorned themselves. They were submissive to their own husbands,

⁵ You sweep mortals away in the sleep of death. They sprout again in the morning like grass. ⁶ In the morning it blossoms and grows up; in the evening it is cut down and withers.

⁷ though the wicked spring up as the grass, and all the evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.

⁶ A voice shouts: "Cry out!" And I said: "What shall I cry?" The voice shouts: "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field. ⁷ "The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass. ⁸ "The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever."

²⁶ “You of little faith,” Jesus replied, “why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly calm.

³¹ Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of Peter. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?”

⁸ Aware of their conversation, Jesus said, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread?

¹⁷ “O unbelieving and perverse generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy here to Me.”

⁴⁰ And He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you not still have [any] faith?”

¹⁹ “O unbelieving generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to Me.”

⁴¹ “O unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “How long must I remain with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”

²⁸ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith!

²⁷ Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe.”

¹⁰ But the one who is rich should exult in his low position, because he will pass away like a flower of the field. ¹¹ For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its flower falls and its beauty is lost. So too, the rich man will fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

²⁴ For, “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,

²⁰ "'"You may ask: "What will we eat in the seventh year if we do not plant or bring in our crops?"'" ²¹ "'I will give you my blessing in the sixth year so that the land will produce enough for three years. ²² And in the eighth year you will put in your seed, and get your food from the old stores, till the fruit of the ninth year is ready.

⁹ Amaziah said to the man of God, "But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?" The man of God answered, "The LORD is able to give you much more than this."

³ Trust in the LORD, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.

¹⁸ And they tried God in their heart by asking food for their craving. ¹⁹ Nay, they spoke against God and said, "Can God provide a table in a desert? ²⁰ Yes, he struck the rock and water flowed and streams gushed out, but can he also give food or provide meat for his people?" ²¹ Therefore the LORD heard and he was very angry, and a fire was kindled against Jacob, and his anger also rose up against Israel, ²² because they didn't believe in God and didn't trust in his deliverance. ²³ Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven. ²⁴ and rained down on them manna to eat and gave them the grain of heaven. ²⁵ Man ate the bread of angels. He sent them food to the full. ²⁶ He made an east wind blow in the heavens; and He led out the south wind by His power. ²⁷ He caused meat to rain on them like dust and winged birds as the sand of the sea. ²⁸ And He made them fall amidst their camp, all around to their tents. ²⁹ So they did eat, and were well filled; and He gave them that which they craved. ³⁰ But they were not turned from their desires; and while the food was still in their mouths, ³¹ The wrath of God came on them, and put to death the fattest of them, and put an end to the young men of Israel.

³³ The disciples said to him, "Where can we get enough bread in this uninhabited place to feed such a crowd?"

²⁹ And do not be concerned about what you will eat or drink. Do not worry about it.

¹⁴ from men by your hand, Yahweh, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill the belly of your cherished ones. Your sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

¹³ Like a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.

⁴⁶ If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even tax collectors do the same? ⁴⁷ And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even Gentiles do the same?

⁸ Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

²⁵ But Jesus called them to himself and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions exercise authority over them. ²⁶ not so with you. Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,

¹¹ Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? ¹² Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? ¹³ If ye then, though evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

¹⁷ So I tell you this, and testify to it in the Lord: You must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.

⁵ not in the passion of lust like the heathen, who do not know God;

²⁰ "'"You may ask: "What will we eat in the seventh year if we do not plant or bring in our crops?"'" ²¹ "'I will give you my blessing in the sixth year so that the land will produce enough for three years.

¹¹ And God said to him, Because your request is for this thing, and not for long life for yourself or for wealth or for the destruction of your haters, but for wisdom to be a judge of causes; ¹² "I will do what you have asked. I will give you more wisdom and understanding than anyone has ever had. There has never been nor will ever be anyone like you. ¹³ And I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you all your days.

¹³ And Elijah said to her, Have no fear; go and do as you have said, but first make me a little cake of it and come and give it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.

⁷ That night, God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for what you want me to give you.” ⁸ Solomon said to God, "You have shown great loving kindness to David my father, and have made me king in his place. ⁹ Now, LORD God, your promise to my father David is fulfilled, because you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. ¹⁰ Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of yours?” ¹¹ Then God said to Solomon, "Because this was with your heart and you did not ask for wealth, possessions, honor, and the lives of your enemies, and also did not ask for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge that you might judge my people over whom I have made you king, ¹² Wisdom and knowledge are given to you; and I will give you wealth and honour, such as no king has had before you or ever will have after you.

²⁰ This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah. He did what was good and right and true to the LORD his God. ²¹ And in every work which he undertook in the service of the house of the Lord, and in the law and in the statutes, he sought his God with his whole heart, and did it and prospered.

⁹ Fear the LORD, you holy ones of his; for those who fear him lack nothing. ¹⁰ Young lions lack and go hungry, but those who seek the LORD will never lack any good thing.

¹⁸ The days of the upright are numbered by the Lord, and their heritage will be for ever. ¹⁹ In time of troubles they shall not be shamed, and in days of famine they shall be plentifully fed.

²⁵ I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. ¹² O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you, ² so as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ if, indeed, you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, ⁴ If you seek it as for silver And search for it as for buried treasures, ⁵ then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, ⁸ guarding the paths of the just and protecting the way of his faithful ones. ⁹ Then you will understand what is right, just, and upright every good path.

⁹ Honor the LORD with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase: ¹⁰ So your barns will be filled with abundance, and your vats will burst open with new wine.

²⁴ He shall say, Only in the LORD do I have righteousness and strength; to Him he comes; and they are ashamed, all who are angry with Him.

⁶ In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely. This is his name by which he will be called: the LORD our righteousness.

² "This is what the LORD of hosts says: These people say, 'The time hasn't yet come, the time for the LORD's house to be built.'" ³ Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai, the prophet, saying, ⁴ "Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste? ⁵ For this cause the Lord of armies has said, Give thought to your ways. ⁶ "You sow much and reap little. You eat but you do not have enough! You drink and yet you are not filled. You clothe yourselves but you are not warm. You earns wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it." ⁷ This is what the Lord of armies has said: Give thought to your ways. ⁸ Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house: that I may take pleasure in it, and be glorified, saith the Lord. ⁹ "You looked for much, and, look, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?" says the LORD of hosts, "Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house. ¹⁰ Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld the dew and the earth has withheld its produce. ¹¹ I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on that which the ground produces, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of the hands.”

¹⁶ How, when anyone came to a store of twenty measures, there were only ten: when anyone went to the wine-store to get fifty vessels full, there were only twenty. ¹⁷ I struck you with blight, mildew, and hail in all the work of your hands; yet you did not turn to me,' says the LORD. ¹⁸ "'Pay attention from now on, from this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, when the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid. Pay attention! ¹⁹ Is the seed yet in the barn? Yea, the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not brought forth. From this day I will bless [you].

⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

⁴⁴ The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and in his joy he went and sold all he had and bought that field. ⁴⁵ "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. ⁴⁶ When he found one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

²⁹ And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields on account of my name will receive a hundred times as much, and will inherit eternal life.

²⁹ “Truly I tell you,” said Jesus, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for My sake and for the gospel ³⁰ but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time: houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life.

⁶ They were both upright in the sight of God, blamelessly observing all the Lord's commands and requirements.

³¹ But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

²⁹ “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God ³⁰ who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life."

²⁷ Do not work for food that perishes, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on Him God the Father has placed His seal of approval.”

²⁵ And now I know that none of you among whom I went about preaching the kingdom will ever see my face again.

³¹ Boldly and freely he proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁷ For in the gospel God's righteousness is being revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, "The righteous will live by faith."

²¹ But now the righteousness of God apart from the law has been revealed, being witnessed to by the Law and the Prophets, ²² And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction,

³¹ What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

³ For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness.

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

³⁰ It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.

²² Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Kephas, or the world, or life, or death, or the present, or the future-all things are yours!

²¹ God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

⁹ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christthe righteousness that comes from God and is by faith,

¹³ He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son, ¹⁴ in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

⁵ All of this proves that God's judgment is just, and as a result, you will become worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering.

⁸ Now physical exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, holding promises for both this present life and the one to come.

¹ Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:

¹¹ and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ They measured it. Those who gathered much did not have too much. Some who gathered less did not have too little. Each had gathered just what he needed. ¹⁹ Then Moses said to them, "No one is to leave any of it until morning." ²⁰ Some of them did not listen to Moses and saved part of it. The next morning it was full of worms and smelled rotten. Moses was angry with them.

²⁵ May your shoe latches be iron and bronze, and your days as your strength.

⁴ "You will drink from the brook. I have ordered the ravens to feed you there." ⁵ So he did as the LORD said, living by the Cherith Brook, east of Jordan. ⁶ The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

¹⁴ For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'The jar of flour will not be emptied and the jug of olive oil will not run out until the day the LORD gives rain on the surface of the earth.'" ¹⁵ And she went and did as Elijah told her; and he and she and her house ate for many days. ¹⁶ the pitcher of meal was not consumed, and the jar of oil did not fail, according to the Word of the LORD which He spoke by Elijah.

¹ Elisha said, "Hear the word of the LORD: 'Thus says the LORD, "At this time tomorrow a seah of wheat bread flour will sell for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria.'" ² The personal attendant of the king said to Elisha: "If the LORD could make floodgates in the heavens could this happen?" Elisha replied: "You will see it with your own eyes. But you will not eat from it."

²³ They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

¹¹ Give us today our daily bread;

²⁷ Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

³³ I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith. “We must endure many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

³ so that no one would be unsettled by these afflictions. You yourselves know that we have been destined for this. ⁴ Indeed, when we were with you, we kept warning you that we would suffer persecution; and as you know, it has come to pass.
