¹ The Pharisees and Sadducees came up and to test him asked him to show them a sign from heaven. ² He replied, "In the evening you say, 'It will be fine weather, for the sky is red;' ³ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but not the signs of the times! ⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Then He left them and went away. ⁵ When they crossed to the other side, the disciples forgot to take bread. ⁶ and Jesus said to them, "Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the Sadducees." ⁷ They discussed this among themselves and concluded, “It is because we did not bring any bread.” ⁸ Aware of their conversation, Jesus said, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? ⁹ Do you still not understand? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? ¹⁰ Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? ¹¹ Why do you not see that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!" ¹² Then they understood that He was not telling them to beware of the yeast used in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. ¹³ When Jesus had come to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" ¹⁴ They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” ¹⁵ “But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?” ¹⁶ Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!" ¹⁷ Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father in heaven. ¹⁸ And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it! ¹⁹ I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” ²⁰ Then he warned the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ. ²¹ From that time on Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and that He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. ²² Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him saying, "Never, Lord! This shall never happen to you!" ²³ But Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me. For you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.” ²⁴ Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. ²⁵ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. ²⁶ What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? ²⁷ For the Son of Man will come in His Father’s glory with His angels, and then He will repay each one according to what he has done. ²⁸ Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”

⁷ But when John saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his place of baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? ⁸ Produce fruit worthy of repentance.

²⁰ For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

¹¹ When the Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

¹⁴ But the Pharisees went out and conspired to kill Jesus.

³⁸ Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from you." ³⁹ He answered them, "A wicked and adulterous generation seeks for a sign. But no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

¹ Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked,

⁶ and Jesus said to them, "Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the Sadducees."

¹¹ Why do you not see that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!" ¹² Then they understood that He was not telling them to beware of the yeast used in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

³ Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?"

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went out and plotted to trap Jesus in His words.

¹⁸ But Jesus, knowing their malice, said, Hypocrites! Why do ye try me?

²³ That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him a question,

³⁴ But hearing that He had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees were gathered together. ³⁵ One of them, an expert in the law, tested Him with a question:

⁶² The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and Pharisees assembled before Pilate.

¹¹ Then the Pharisees came and began to argue with Jesus. They tested Him by demanding from Him a sign from heaven. ¹² He sighed deeply and said, "Why does this generation ask for a sign? In truth I tell you no sign will be given to this generation." ¹³ Then He left them, got back into the boat, and crossed to the other side. ¹⁴ Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. ¹⁵ Jesus had been warning them, "Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod!" ¹⁶ And they discussed it with one another, saying, "It is because we have no bread." ¹⁷ Aware of their conversation, Jesus asked them, “Why are you debating about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Do you have such hard hearts? ¹⁸ Do you have eyes but fail to see? Do you have ears but fail to hear? Don't you remember? ¹⁹ When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of broken pieces did you collect?” “Twelve,” they answered. ²⁰ "And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand how many basketfuls of fragments you picked up?" They said, "Seven." ²¹ He said to them, "Do you not yet understand?"

² Some Pharisees came to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"

¹⁵ Should we pay them, or should we not?" But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, "Why do you put me to the test? Bring me a denarius, and let me look at it."

¹⁸ Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him a question.

²⁵ One day an expert in the law stood up to test Him. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

¹⁶ Others tested him demanding a sign from heaven.

²⁹ As the crowds were increasing, Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. ³⁰ For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of man be to this generation.

⁵³ As Jesus was leaving, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him fiercely, interrogating him about many things. ⁵⁴ waiting to catch Him in something He might say.

⁵⁴ And He said to the crowds, "When you see a cloud rising in the west, at once you say, 'It is going to rain,' and it does. ⁵⁵ And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It will be hot,’ and it is. ⁵⁶ You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; but how is it you do not know how to interpret this present time?

²³ He saw through their cunning and said to them,

²⁷ Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him,

³⁰ So they asked Him, “What sign then will You perform, so that we may see it and believe You? What will You do? ³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the desert as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.' "

⁶ They said this to test Him, in order to have a basis for accusing Him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with His finger.

¹ And as they were speaking to the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple,

¹⁷ Then the high priest and all his associates (who belonged to the party of the Sadducees) rose up with jealousy.

⁶ Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees and others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, “Brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee. It is because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial.” ⁷ And when he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor an angel, nor a spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.

²² Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

³² And of the sons of Issachar, having understanding for the times, to know what Israel should do; their heads [are] two hundred, and all their brethren [are] at their command.

²³ Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

⁵ You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

⁵ The blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and good news is preached to the poor.

⁷ You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you:

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.

⁴⁴ A curse on you, because you are like unmarked graves which men walk over without knowing it!"

⁵⁶ You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; but how is it you do not know how to interpret this present time?

¹⁵ Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?

³ And the LORD said, My Spirit shall not always plead with Man; for he indeed is flesh; but his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

¹⁷ Ephraim is joined to idols. Leave him alone!

¹² Even if they rear their children, I will, in turn, make them childless in fact, woe to them when I turn away from them!

¹⁷ And the LORD prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah; and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights

³⁹ He answered them, "A wicked and adulterous generation seeks for a sign. But no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. ⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the huge fish, so the Son of Man shall be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

¹⁴ Disregard them! They are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

¹⁷ And the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region. ¹⁸ As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed kept begging him to let him go with him.

¹² He sighed deeply and said, "Why does this generation ask for a sign? In truth I tell you no sign will be given to this generation."

³⁸ For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in His Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

⁴⁰ With many other words he bore witness and exhorted them, "Save yourselves from this perverse generation."

⁶ But when they began to oppose him and insult him, he shook out his clothes in protest and told them, "Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent. From now on I will go to the gentiles."

³⁹ After he sent the crowds away, he got into a boat and went to the region of Magadan.

¹³ Then He left them, got back into the boat, and crossed to the other side. ¹⁴ Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat.

¹⁵ "You will eat unleavened bread for seven days. The first day you shall remove leaven from your houses. Whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day will be cut off from Israel. ¹⁶ And the first day is a holy convocation and the seventh day becomes a holy convocation to you; work not therein, except what every soul eat - only work that: ¹⁷ "And you will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because on this very day I brought out your divisions from the land of Egypt, and you will keep this day for your generations as a lasting statute. ¹⁸ On the first day, on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, you will eat unleavened bread until the evening of the twenty-first day of the month. ¹⁹ For seven days yeast must not be found in your houses, because anyone eating food with yeast will be cut off from the community of Israel—whether an alien or a native of the land.

¹¹ "'Every grain offering you bring to the LORD must be made without yeast. Do not use yeast or honey in food offered to the LORD.

¹² Then they understood that He was not telling them to beware of the yeast used in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

¹⁵ Jesus had been warning them, "Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod!"

¹ In the meantime, a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling one another. Jesus began to speak first to His disciples: “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

¹⁵ And He said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourselves against every form of greed, for a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

⁶ Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? ⁷ Get rid of the old yeast, that you may be a new unleavened batch, as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. ⁸ Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. ⁹ A little yeast spreads through the whole batch of dough.

¹⁶ But avoid worldly, empty chatter, for those who practice it will become more and more ungodly, ¹⁷ and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,

¹⁶ “Do you still not understand?” Jesus asked. ¹⁷ Do you not yet see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? ¹⁸ But the things which come out of the mouth come from the heart; and they make a man unclean.

¹⁶ And they discussed it with one another, saying, "It is because we have no bread." ¹⁷ Aware of their conversation, Jesus asked them, “Why are you debating about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Do you have such hard hearts? ¹⁸ Do you have eyes but fail to see? Do you have ears but fail to hear? Don't you remember?

¹⁰ And they kept the matter to themselves, discussing what this rising from the dead meant.

⁴⁶ Then an argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.

¹⁴ “No, Lord!” Peter answered, “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

³⁰ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

²⁶ “You of little faith,” Jesus replied, “why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly calm.

³¹ Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of Peter. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?”

¹⁴ Later he appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen him after he had risen.

²⁴ But Jesus did not entrust Himself to them, for He knew all men. ²⁵ He did not need any testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man.

³⁰ Now we know that you know everything and do not need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you have really come from God."

¹³ Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

²³ Then I will strike her children dead, and all the churches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

¹⁷ “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. ¹⁸ "Bring them here to me," He said, ¹⁹ And He instructed the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, He spoke a blessing. Then He broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples to the people. ²⁰ They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. ²¹ Now those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

¹⁶ “Do you still not understand?” Jesus asked. ¹⁷ Do you not yet see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated?

³⁸ "How many loaves have you?" he answered. "Go and see." When they had found out, they said, "Five, and two fishes." ³⁹ Then Jesus directed them to have the people sit in groups on the green grass. ⁴⁰ So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. ⁴¹ And taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to His disciples to serve the people; He also divided the two fish among them all. ⁴² They all ate and were satisfied, ⁴³ and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. ⁴⁴ (The number of men who ate the loaves was five thousand.)

¹⁸ “Are you still so dull?” He asked. “Do you not understand? Nothing that enters a man from the outside can defile him,

¹³ But He said to them, "You give them something to eat." And they said, "We have no more than five loaves of bread and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people." ¹⁴ For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each." ¹⁵ The disciples did so, and made them all sit down. ¹⁶ Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. ¹⁷ They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

²⁵ He said to them, “Foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! ²⁶ Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and enter his glory?" ²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them the things in all the scriptures, concerning himself.

⁹ Here is a boy who has five barley loaves, and two small fishes; but what are they among so many? ¹⁰ Then Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was plenty of grass in the place; so the men sat down, about five thousand in number. ¹¹ Then Jesus took the loaves and the fish, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. ¹² When they had plenty, He said to His disciples, "Pick up the pieces that are left, that nothing be wasted." ¹³ So they collected them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

¹⁹ Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent.

³⁴ “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.” ³⁵ He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. ³⁶ He took the seven loaves and the fish and after giving thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples to the crowds. ³⁷ They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. ³⁸ The number who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.

⁵ “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied. ⁶ So He told the crowd to sit down on the ground; then taking the seven loaves and giving thanks, He broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before the crowd, and they did. ⁷ They had also a few small fishes. These he blessed and told the disciples to distribute them. ⁸ The people ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. ⁹ About four thousand men were present. And having sent them away,

⁴⁰ And He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you not still have [any] faith?”

²¹ He said to them, "Do you not yet understand?"

⁴³ Why do you not understand what I say? Because you are unable to hear My word.

⁴ For God said: ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ ⁵ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might have received from me is a gift to God' ⁶ he need not honor his father or mother with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. ⁷ You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you: ⁸ 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. ⁹ They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.’”

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.

¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You traverse land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are. ¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ ¹⁷ You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes it sacred? ¹⁸ And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’ ¹⁹ You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? ²⁰ Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. ²¹ And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the One who dwells in it. ²² And he who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the One who sits on it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You pay tithes of mint, dill, and cumin, but you have disregarded the weightier matters of the Law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. ²⁴ You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. ²⁶ Blind Pharisee, first wash clean the inside of the cup or dish, and then the outside will be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity. ²⁸ In the same way, on the outside you also appear righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor an angel, nor a spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.

¹³ I beheld in the night vision, and behold, One like the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven, and He came to the Ancient of Days, and was brought near to Him.

²⁰ Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.”

⁶ But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...” Then He said to the paralytic, “Get up, pick up your mat, and go home.”

⁸ For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

³² Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the huge fish, so the Son of Man shall be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

³⁷ He answered them, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man,

⁴¹ The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil,

²¹ Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon.

³¹ When the Son of man comes in his glory and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory,

²⁷ Jesus and his disciples went into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples: "Who do men say I am?" ²⁸ They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets." ²⁹ So he inquired of them, "And who do you say I am?" Peter replied, "You are the Christ."

⁴⁵ For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

¹⁸ One day while Jesus was praying privately and the disciples were with him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say I am?" ¹⁹ They answered, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others one of the ancient prophets who has come back to life." ²⁰ And he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered, "The Christ of God!"

⁵¹ In truth I tell you," he added, "you shall all see Heaven open, and 'the angels of God ascending and descending' upon the Son of Man."

¹⁴ Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

²⁷ and he has given him authority to judge, because he is the Son of Man.

³⁴ The crowd replied, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ will remain forever. So how can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”

⁵⁶ “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him.

¹⁴ Therefore, since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil, ¹⁵ and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. ¹⁶ For surely it is not the angels He helps, but the descendants of Abraham. ¹⁷ So He had to be made like His brothers in every way, that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, in order to make atonement for the sins of the people. ¹⁸ Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

⁵ Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and fearful day of the LORD comes.

² and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead! This is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”

¹⁰ The disciples asked Him, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

¹⁵ Others said, He is Elijah. And others said, He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.

²⁸ They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets."

⁸ by others that Elijah had appeared, and by still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.

¹⁸ One day while Jesus was praying privately and the disciples were with him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say I am?" ¹⁹ They answered, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others one of the ancient prophets who has come back to life."

²¹ They asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" He answered, "No."

¹² Many in the crowds were whispering about Him. Some said, “He is a good man.” But others replied, “No, He deceives the people.”

⁴⁰ On hearing these words, some of the people said, “This is truly the Prophet.” ⁴¹ Others declared, “This is the Christ.” But still others asked, “How can the Christ come from Galilee?

¹⁷ Again they said to the blind man, What have you to say about him for opening your eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.

¹¹ He replied, “The knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.

²⁹ So he inquired of them, "And who do you say I am?" Peter replied, "You are the Christ."

²⁰ And he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered, "The Christ of God!"

²⁶ For what mortal man has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the fire like we did, and lived?

⁷ I will tell of the decree. The LORD said to me, "You are my son. Today I have become your father.

² My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

²⁶ "I hereby decree that in every area of my kingdom men are to fear and tremble before the God of Daniel. For he is the living God, who endures forever. His kingdom is one that will not be destroyed, and his dominion continues forever.

³ The tempter came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

³³ Then those who were in the boat worshipped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."

⁶³ But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

⁵⁴ When the centurion and those with him guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified and said, “Truly this was the Son of God.”

⁶¹ But he was silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.

⁶⁹ "We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."

²⁷ “Yes, Lord,” she answered, “I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.”

³¹ But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: and that believing, you may have life in his name.

³⁶ And as they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?"

²⁰ and at once he began to preach in their synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God.

¹⁵ “Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them.

⁴ and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

³ It is clear that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

¹⁶ What agreement can exist between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.”

⁹ For they themselves report what kind of welcome you gave us, and how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God

¹⁵ so that, if I am detained, you may know how people ought to conduct themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

¹⁰ To this end we labor and strive, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.

² But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. ³ The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. ⁴ Having become as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. ⁵ For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son. Today I have become your Father"? Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"?

³¹ It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

²² But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the joyful assembly

¹⁵ If anyone confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

⁵ Who is it that overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true—in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

¹³ And all your sons will be taught of the LORD and great will be the peace of your sons.

³ "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. ⁵ Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. ⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. ⁷ Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. ⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. ¹⁰ Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

²⁵ At that time Jesus declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. ²⁶ Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. ²⁷ "All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear; ¹⁷ For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

²¹ At that time, Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight. ²² All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son, and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.” ²³ And he turned to his disciples, and said privately: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. ²⁴ For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

³² But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

⁴² Andrew brought him to Jesus, who looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which is translated as Peter).

⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets: ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from Him comes to Me—

⁶ I have revealed Your name to those You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours; You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. ⁷ Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. ⁸ For I have given them the words You gave Me, and they have received them. They knew with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me.

¹⁵ When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." ¹⁶ A second time he said, Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me? He answered, Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. Jesus replied, Tend my sheep. ¹⁷ He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, do you love me? Peter was grieved because he asked him a third time: Do you love me? And he said to him: Lord, you know all things. You know that I love you. Jesus said to him: Feed my sheep.

⁹ Rather, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” ¹⁰ But God has revealed it to us by the Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. ¹¹ For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit which is in him? Even so no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. ¹² We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

⁵⁰ Now I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

¹¹ Now I want you to know, brothers, that the Gospel preached by me is not according to man; ¹² I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

¹⁶ To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with flesh and blood: ¹⁷ and asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in your knowledge of Him. ¹⁸ I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,

⁸ For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God,

⁵ which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets.

¹⁸ May have strength to see with all the saints how wide and long and high and deep it is, ¹⁹ and to know Christ's love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

¹² For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

²⁶ the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. ²⁷ to whom God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

¹⁴ Therefore, since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil,

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, ⁵ who through faith are protected by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹ The elders among you I exhort, who am a fellowelder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, who am also a sharer in the glory that is to be revealed;

¹⁷ '"I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities.

⁴ The king said to them, "I will do what seems best to you." The king stood beside the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.

¹⁷ "Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?

¹³ Have mercy on me, Yahweh. See my affliction by those who hate me, and lift me up from the gates of death,

¹² Those who sit at the gate talk of me and I am the song of the drunkards.

¹⁸ They loathed all food, and even reached the gates of death.

¹ A song of ascents. Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. ² As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people from this time forth and forevermore.

⁵ Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. They shall not be put to shame when they speak with their enemies in the gate.

⁷ Wisdom is too high for a fool: in the gate can he not open his mouth.

⁶ He will be a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who repel the attack at the gate.

¹⁶ Therefore the Sovereign LORD says this: "Look! I am laying a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a founded foundation: 'The one who trusts will not panic.'

¹⁰ I said in the pause of my days, I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the rest of my years.

¹⁷ "Weapons forged against you will not prevail! You will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD.

¹² Then tell him, 'This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "Here is the man whose name is The Branch. He will branch out from where he is and will rebuild the temple of the LORD. ¹³ And he will build the temple of the LORD, and he will bear majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace will be between the two of them." '

² These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;

²³ And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to heaven? No, you will descend to Hades! For if the miracles that were performed in you had happened in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

¹⁷ If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, regard him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

²⁷ My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me; ²⁸ I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one shall snatch them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. ³⁰ I and the Father are one."

⁴⁷ praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

¹ And Saul was there, giving approval to Stephen’s death. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.

³³ Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. ³⁴ Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God—and He is interceding for us. ³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? ³⁶ As it is written: “For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” ³⁷ No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. ³⁸ For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, ³⁹ neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁹ For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. ¹⁰ By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise master builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds. ¹¹ For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

⁵⁵ Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?

⁹ Peter, and John, who were esteemed to be pillars, perceived the favour that was bestowed on me, they admitted me and Barnabas into fellowship, and agreed, that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews.

¹⁹ So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household, ²⁰ built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. ²¹ in whom the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord; ²² And in Him you too are being built together into a dwelling place for God in His Spirit.

¹⁰ His purpose was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,

²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her ²⁶ to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, ²⁷ and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.

³² This mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and the church.

¹⁸ And he is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; so that in all things he might have the pre-eminence.

⁵ For if a man does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?

³ Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. ⁴ For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.

²⁸ Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and offer to God acceptable worship with reverence and awe,

¹⁵ Then the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."

¹ Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. ² I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. ³ And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. ⁴ He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”

¹⁴ And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

²² "'I will lay the key of the house of David on his shoulder. He will open, and no one will shut and he will shut, and no one will open.

¹⁸ I tell you truly, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

²³ If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you withhold forgiveness from anyone, it is withheld.”

¹⁴ Then Peter stood up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and addressed the crowd: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen carefully to my words. ¹⁵ These men are not drunk as you suppose, for it is only nine in the morning. ¹⁶ No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ¹⁷ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out My Spirit on all people; your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. ¹⁸ Even on My servants, both men and women, I will pour out My Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. ¹⁹ I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and clouds of smoke. ²⁰ The sun will be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. ²¹ And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ ²² Men of Israel, listen to this message: Jesus of Nazareth was a man certified by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did among you through Him, as you yourselves know. ²³ He was handed over by God’s set plan and foreknowledge, and you, by the hands of the lawless, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross. ²⁴ But God raised Him from the dead, releasing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for Him to be held in its clutches. ²⁵ David says about Him: ‘I saw the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. ²⁶ Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices, my body also will live in hope, ²⁷ because You will not abandon my soul to Hades, nor will You let Your Holy One see decay. ²⁸ You have made known to me the paths of life, You will fill me with joy in Your presence.’ ²⁹ "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and that his tomb is among us to this day. ³⁰ But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that He would place one of his descendants on his throne. ³¹ he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to hades, nor did his flesh see decay. ³² God has raised this Jesus to life, to which we are all witnesses. ³³ Exalted, then, to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. ³⁴ For David did not ascend into the heavens; yet he saith, "The Lord said to my lord, Sit at my right hand, ³⁵ until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." ' ³⁶ Therefore let all Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ!” ³⁷ When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and asked Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” ³⁸ Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, for all whom the Lord our God will call to himself." ⁴⁰ With many other words he bore witness and exhorted them, "Save yourselves from this perverse generation." ⁴¹ Those who embraced his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to the believers that day. ⁴² They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

³⁴ Then Peter began to speak: “I now truly understand that God does not show favoritism, ³⁵ but welcomes those from every nation who fear Him and do what is right. ³⁶ As to the message which he sent to the children of Israel telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ — who is Lord of all — ³⁷ You know what happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached. ³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him. ³⁹ We are witnesses of everything that He did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. Yet they murdered Him by hanging Him upon a tree. ⁴⁰ but God raised him up on the third day and caused him to be seen, ⁴¹ not by all the people, but by the witnesses God had chosen beforehand, by us who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead. ⁴² And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. ⁴³ All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name.”

⁷ After much discussion, Peter got up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days, God made a choice among you that the Gentiles would hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.

⁴ When you are gathered in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of the Lord Jesus, ⁵ hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.

¹⁰ If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And if I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven it in the presence of Christ for your sake,

⁸ Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ the Living One. I was dead, and behold, now I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of Death and of Hades.

⁷ To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of the One who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What He opens, no one will shut; and what He shuts, no one will open.

¹ Then the fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from heaven to earth, and it was given the key to the pit of the abyss.

⁶ These witnesses have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall during the days of their prophecy, and power to turn the waters into blood, and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish.

¹ Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the Abyss, holding in his hand a great chain. ² He seized the dragon, the ancient serpent who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. ³ He threw him into the pit, and closed it and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that time, he must be released for a short while.

⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

⁹ As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Do not tell anyone about this vision until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

³⁰ And Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about Him.

⁹ As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus admonished them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

²¹ Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.

³⁶ After the voice had spoken, Jesus was alone. The disciples kept silent and at that time told no one about what they had seen.

⁴¹ The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and say to him, "We have found the Messiah!" (which is translated "Christ").

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the One Moses wrote about in the Law, the One the prophets foretold—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

³⁶ Therefore let all Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ!”

²² Who is the liar, if it is not the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, who denies the Father and the Son.

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves His child.

¹ These were the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ² And Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and they had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests. ³ And David, with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their appointments for their service. ⁴ More leaders were located among Eleazar's descendants than among those of Ithamar, so sixteen leaders were appointed from the leaders of the ancestral households of Eleazar's descendants and eight from those of Ithamar. ⁵ And thus were they divided impartially by drawing lots; for there were officiers of the sanctuary, and officiers of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar. ⁶ And Shemaiah the son of Nethanel the scribe, who was of the Levites, wrote them in the presence of the king and the princes and Zadok the priest and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar and the heads of the fathers of the priests and of the Levites, one fathers' house being taken for Eleazar and one taken for Ithamar. ⁷ The first lot fell to Jehoiarib. The second to Jedaiah. ⁸ the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, ⁹ the fifth to Malkijah, the sixth to Mijamin, ¹⁰ the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, ¹¹ the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah, ¹² the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim, ¹³ the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab, ¹⁴ the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer, ¹⁵ the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez, ¹⁶ the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel, ¹⁷ the twenty-first to Jakin, the twenty-second to Gamul, ¹⁸ the twenty-third to Delaiah, and the twenty-fourth to Maaziah. ¹⁹ This was their ordering in their service, to come into the house of the LORD according to the ordinance given to them by Aaron their father, as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded him.

⁷ Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah, and Jediah. These were the leaders of the priests and their associates in the time of Jeshua.

²⁸ Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”

¹² But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him whatever they wished. In the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands.”

²² When they gathered together in Galilee, Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. ²³ They will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised to life.” And the disciples were deeply grieved.

¹⁷ As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside and said, ¹⁸ "We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the high priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death ¹⁹ and will deliver Him to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. And on the third day He will be raised to life.”

²⁸ just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

² “You know that the Passover begins in two days, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

⁴⁷ While Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.

¹² And when he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he made no answer.

⁶³ “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while He was alive that deceiver said ‘After three days I will rise again.’

³¹ Then He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and that He must be killed and after three days rise again.

³¹ because He was teaching His disciples. He told them, “The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill Him, and after three days He will rise.” ³² But they did not understand what he meant, and they were afraid to ask him about it.

³² As they were going up the road to Jerusalem, Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were filled with awe, but those who followed were afraid. Again Jesus took the Twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him: ³³ "We are going up to Jerusalem," he said, "and the Son of man will be betrayed to the high priests and scribes; they will sentence him to death and hand him over to the Gentiles, ³⁴ And they will mock him and spit on him and flog him and kill him, and after three days he will rise."

²² saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up." ²³ Then he said to them all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. ²⁴ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. ²⁵ What good does it do a man to gain the whole world and lose or forfeit himself? ²⁶ If anyone is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. ²⁷ But I tell you truthfully, some who are standing here will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”

³¹ who appeared in glory and were speaking about his departure which he was about to fulfill in Jerusalem.

⁴⁴ "Listen carefully to these words. The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into human hands." ⁴⁵ But they did not understand this remark, and it was hidden from them so that they did not take it in, and they were afraid to ask him about it.

²⁵ But first, he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

³¹ And he took the Twelve aside and said to them, "See! we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything written in the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. ³² He will be handed over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. ³³ and the third day he shall rise again. ³⁴ But the disciples did not understand any of these things. The meaning was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what He was saying.

⁶ He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you while He was still in Galilee: ⁷ 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.'"

⁴⁶ And He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

¹⁹ Jesus answering, said to them, Destroy this temple, and I will rear it again in three days. ²⁰ The Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this sanctuary, and are you going to raise it in three days?" ²¹ (But, by the temple, he meant his body.)

²³ He was handed over by God’s set plan and foreknowledge, and you, by the hands of the lawless, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross. ²⁴ But God raised Him from the dead, releasing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for Him to be held in its clutches. ²⁵ David says about Him: ‘I saw the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. ²⁶ Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices, my body also will live in hope, ²⁷ because You will not abandon my soul to Hades, nor will You let Your Holy One see decay. ²⁸ You have made known to me the paths of life, You will fill me with joy in Your presence.’ ²⁹ "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and that his tomb is among us to this day. ³⁰ But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that He would place one of his descendants on his throne. ³¹ he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to hades, nor did his flesh see decay. ³² God has raised this Jesus to life, to which we are all witnesses.

³ For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, ⁴ that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

¹³ Then the messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, "Please now, the words of the prophet are unanimously favorable to the king. Please let your words be as one word with them, and speak favorably."

¹⁶ Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!" ¹⁷ Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father in heaven.

⁵¹ At this, one of Jesus’ companions drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. ⁵² “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword. ⁵³ Are you not aware that I can call on My Father, and He will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

³² He spoke plainly about this. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

⁶ Then he came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?" ⁷ Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” ⁸ Peter said to Him, You shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.

¹¹ Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, bound his own feet and hands, and said, “The Holy Spirit says: ‘In this way the Jews of Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and hand him over to the Gentiles.’” ¹² When we heard this, we and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. ¹³ Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

¹ Now the serpent was craftier than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman: "Did God really say, you must not eat from any tree in the garden?" ² The woman said to the serpent: "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden. ³ '"However, God did say: 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden. You must not touch it, or you will die.'" ⁴ "You will not die," the serpent said to the woman. ⁵ "God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened. Then you will be like God, knowing good and evil." ⁶ When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

¹⁷ He said to Adam: "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.

²² Then David said, "What is it to me or to you, sons of Zeruiah, that you should be an adversary today? Should anyone be put to death in Israel? Do I not know today that I am king over Israel?"

¹ Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to take a census of Israel.

¹⁴ He will be a sanctuary, but for both houses of Israel, he will be a stumbling stone and a rock that makes them fall. For the people of Jerusalem, he will be a trap and a snare.

¹ And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. ² The LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, Satan. Yes, the LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you. Isn't this a burning stick plucked out of the fire?"

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan. For it is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

⁷ Woe to the world for the causes of sin. These stumbling blocks must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!

³³ But when he had turned about and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get behind me, Satan: for you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things that are of men.

⁸ But Jesus replied, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!”

⁵ Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. ⁶ The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace, ⁷ because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s Law, nor can it do so. ⁸ Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God.

¹³ Therefore let us stop judging one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.

²¹ It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything to cause your brother to stumble.

¹⁴ The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵ The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment.

¹⁴ And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. ¹⁵ It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their actions.

¹⁹ Their destiny is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on worldly things.

² Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

³⁸ and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.

³² And as they were going out, they met a man of Cyrene, named Simon, and compelled him to carry the cross.

³⁴ Then Jesus called the crowd to Him along with His disciples, and He told them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.

²¹ Jesus looking at him loved him and said to him, "One thing you lack. Go sell all that you have and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come follow me."

²¹ Now Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and the soldiers forced him to carry the cross of Jesus.

²⁷ And whoever does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple.

²⁶ As they led Jesus away, they grabbed Simon, a man from Cyrene, as he was coming in from the country, and they put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.

¹⁷ Carrying His own cross, He went out to The Place of the Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha.

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith. “We must endure many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions for the sake of His body, which is the church.

³ so that no one would be unsettled by these afflictions. You yourselves know that we have been destined for this.

¹² In fact, any one who desires to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted;

²⁴ By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as a son of Pharaoh's daughter, ²⁵ He chose to share the bad treatment with the people of God, rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. ²⁶ He thought that being insulted for the sake of the Messiah was of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

¹ Therefore, since Christ suffered in His body, arm yourselves with the same resolve, because anyone who has suffered in his body is done with sin. ² so that he can live the rest of his mortal life guided, not by human desires, but by the will of God.

¹⁴ For if you remain silent now, then relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. Who knows if you haven't come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"

¹⁶ “Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Susa, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”

³⁹ Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

³⁵ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and for the gospel will save it.

³³ Whoever seeks to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.

²⁵ He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

²³ I only know that in town after town the Holy Spirit warns me that chains and afflictions await me. ²⁴ But I consider my life of no value to myself, if only I may finish my course and complete the ministry I have received from the Lord Jesus—the ministry of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.

¹¹ They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even to the death.

⁴ Satan answered the LORD: "Skin for skin! Certainly, a man will give everything he has for his life.

⁸ For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?

⁷ A man cannot at all redeem a brother, nor give to God a ransom for him, ⁸ For the redemption of their life is costly, no payment is ever enough,

⁸ Again the devil took him to a very high mountain, and he showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor, ⁹ “All this I will give You,” he said, “if You will fall down and worship me.”

²⁹ If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

³⁶ What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? ³⁷ Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

²⁵ What good does it do a man to gain the whole world and lose or forfeit himself?

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul will be demanded of you. Then who will have all you have prepared?'

²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus received evil things; but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.

¹¹ He shalams humanity for his deeds, and presents every man according to his ways.

¹² Also to you, Lord, belongs gracious love, because you reward each person according to what he does.

¹² if you say, "Look, we do not know this," does not he who weighs hearts perceive it? And he who keeps your soul, he knows and will repay humankind according to his deeds.

¹⁰ Say you to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked. Disaster is upon them; for the work of his hands will be done to him.

¹⁰ "I, the LORD, search the heart and examine the mind (inner man). I give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.

¹⁹ »You are great in counsel and mighty in deed. Your eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men. You give to everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.

²⁷ '"The king will mourn. The prince will be clothed with despair and the hands of the people of the land will tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct. By their own standards I will judge them. Then they will know that I am the LORD.'"

¹⁰ A stream of fire went out and came out from before Him. A thousand thousands served Him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The judgment was set, and the books were opened.

⁵ "You will flee by the valley of my mountains. For the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel. Yes you will flee the same as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.

⁴¹ Every one who receives a prophet, because he is a prophet, will receive a prophet's reward, and every one who receives a righteous man, because he is a righteous man, will receive a righteous man's reward. ⁴² And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”

⁴⁹ So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous

³⁰ At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.

⁶⁴ “You have said it yourself,” Jesus answered. “But I say to all of you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

⁶² “I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

²⁶ If anyone is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

²⁷ At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

⁶⁹ But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God."

¹¹ “Men of Galilee,” they said, “Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”

⁶ For he will render to everyone according to what he has done,

¹² So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

⁸ But food does not bring us closer to God: We are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.

⁸ because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.

¹⁰ and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, Jesus, who delivers us from the coming wrath.

¹⁶ For the Lord himself will descend from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

⁷ and to grant relief to you who are oppressed, and to us as well, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels ⁸ Taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ who will be punished with everlasting destruction proceeding from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power, ¹⁰ on the day He comes to be glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have believed, including you who have believed our testimony.

¹⁷ Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives in reverent fear during your temporary stay on earth.

¹⁴ Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these, saying: "Behold, the LORD came with many thousands of his holy ones.

⁷ Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him—even those who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. So shall it be! Amen.

¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And there were open books, and one of them was the book of life. And the dead were judged according to their deeds, as recorded in the books.

¹² "Behold, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me, to render to every man according to what he has done. ¹³ I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. ¹⁴ Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. ¹⁵ Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

²³ "When they persecute you in one city, flee to another. I tell you truly, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

³ While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will all this happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?”

²⁷ For as the lightning flashes from the east, and is seen even to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. ²⁸ Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. ²⁹ "Immediately after the distress of those days the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give her light, and the stars will fall from heaven and the powers of heaven will be shaken. ³⁰ At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. ³¹ And He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

⁴² Therefore watch: for you do not know on what day your Lord will come.

¹ And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power."

²⁶ And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.

²⁶ It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not die until he had seen the Lord's Christ.

²⁷ But I tell you truthfully, some who are standing here will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”

⁸ I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

²⁷ At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. ²⁸ When these things begin to happen, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

⁵² Then the Jews said to him, "Now we really know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets, but you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.'

⁹ But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
