1 One day as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes, together with the elders, came up to him
2 Tell us by what authority thou dost these things? or who it is that gave thee this authority?
3 Jesus responded: "I also will ask you a question. Tell me,
4 John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or from men?”
5 They discussed this among themselves: "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?'
6 But if we say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
7 So they answered that they didn't know where it was from.
8 Jesus said: "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."
9 He began to tell the people this parable. "A man planted a vineyard, and rented it out to some farmers, and went on a journey for a long time.
10 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants, that they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
11 He sent another servant; him also they beat and treated shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.
12 He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him, and threw him out.
13 Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.'
14 But when the laborers saw him, they reasoned with themselves, saying, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.
15 So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
16 He will come and destroy those tenants, and give the vineyard to others." When they heard this, they said, "May this never be!"
17 But Jesus looked directly at them and said, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’ ?
18 Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.”
19 The scribes and the high priests were eager to lay hands on him at that very time, for they knew that he had aimed the illustration at them; but they were afraid of the people.
20 Keeping a close watch on Him, they sent spies, who pretended to be innocent, so that they might latch on to some thing He said, so as to hand Him over to the power and the authority of the governor.
21 So they questioned Him, saying: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and you do not show favoritism but teach the way of God in truth.
22 Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
23 He saw through their cunning and said to them,
24 "Show me a florin. Whose head and title are on it?"
25 Jesus said to them: Then, give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's.
26 And they were unable to trap Him in His words before the people; and astonished at His answer, they fell silent.
27 Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him,
28 and asked him, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no child, the man should marry the widow and have children for his brother.
29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a wife, but died childless.
30 The second
31 and the third married her, and in the same way all seven died, leaving no children.
32 Finally, the woman died, too.
33 So then, in the resurrection, whose wife will she be? For all seven were married to her.”
34 Jesus said, "The sons of this age marry, and are given in marriage.
35 but those who are considered worthy of a place in that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.
36 neither can they die, for they are like angels and are children of God, since they are children of the resurrection.
37 But: that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at The Bush, since he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
38 He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for to Him all are alive.”
39 Some of the scribes answer, saying, Doctor, you say well.
40 They didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.
41 Then he said to them, How do they say that the Christ is the son of David,
42 David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,
43 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." '
44 David then calls him Lord. So how can he be his son?"
45 While all the people were listening, Jesus said to the disciples:
46 "Beware of the scribes! They like to walk around in long robes and love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.
47 who ‘devour’ widows’ houses, and for a show make long prayers. These will receive more severe judgment.”

25 Truly, truly, I tell you, the hour is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
10 This is the one of whom it is written, 'Look, I send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.'
11 Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subject to violence, and the violent lay claim to it.

2 He dug it up, gathered out its stones, planted it with the choicest vine, built a tower in its midst, and also cut out a winepress in it. He looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes.
3 And now, dweller of Jerusalem, and man of Judah, judge, pray, between Me and My vineyard,
4 What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I looked for it to yield grapes, did it yield wild grapes?
5 Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled down.
6 "It will turn into a desert, neither pruned nor cultivated. It will be covered with thorns and briars. I will command the clouds not to send rain."
7 For the vineyard of the LORD Almighty is the house of Israel, and the man of Judah is the plantation of his delight. And he waited for justice, but look! Bloodshed! For righteousness, but look! A cry of distress!
Jeremiah 2:21
21 I planted you myself as a choice vine, from the very best seed. How did you turn against me into a degenerate and foreign vine?
Matthew 21:33-46
33 Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
34 When the harvest time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get his fruit.
35 But the tenants seized his servants. They beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.
36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them the same way.
37 Finally, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.
38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance!’
39 So they took him, and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
40 Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?"
41 “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they declared, “and will rent out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his fruits in their seasons.”
42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’ ?
43 Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.
44 He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.”
45 When the chief priests and Pharisees heard Jesus’ parables, they knew He was speaking about them.
46 So they wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the people, because they regarded him as a prophet.
Matthew 25:14
14 "For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them.
Mark 12:1-12
1 Then Jesus began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a wine vat, and built a watchtower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants, to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.
3 But they took him, beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.
4 Then he sent them another servant, and they struck him over the head and treated him shamefully.
5 He sent still another, and this one they killed. He sent many others; some they beat and others they killed.
6 He had one left, a beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.'
7 But those tenants said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
8 And they took him, and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.
9 What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.
10 Have you never read this Scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
11 From the Lord came this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.'"
12 So they started looking for a way to arrest Him, because they knew He had spoken the parable against them, but they were in fear of the crowd. Then they left Him and went away.

12 So He said, “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to lay claim to his kingship and then return.
John 15:1-8
1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
2 He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful.
3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
4 Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.
5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing.
6 If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned.
7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
8 This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples.
1 Corinthians 3:6-9
6 I planted the seed and Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
8 He who plants and he who waters are one in purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.
9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.
Judges 6:8-10
8 the LORD sent a prophet to them, and he said to them, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'I brought you up from Egypt and brought you out of slavery,
9 I delivered you from the hand of Egypt and from the hand of all your oppressors, and drove them out from before you; and I gave you their land.

21 But the people conspired against him, and at the direct orders of the king they stoned him to death in the courtyard of the LORD's temple.
2 Chronicles 36:15-16
15 The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:

4 "the LORD has sent all his servants the prophets to you. Yet, you have not listened or paid attention to them."
5 Turn, everyone of you, from his evil way, and from your evil practices, and you shall dwell in the land which I gave to you and your fathers, forever and ever.
6 "Do not follow other gods to serve and worship them. Do not make me furious about the idols your hands have shaped. Then I will not harm you."

3 Perhaps they will listen and turn back each from his evil way, and I will relent of the disaster that I am planning to do to them because of their evil deeds.
4 Say to them, "This is what the LORD says: 'If you don't listen to me to follow my Law which I've set before you,
5 to listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I have sent to you, over and over again, though you have not listened,
6 then I will make this house like Shiloh, and this city I will make a curse for all the nations of the earth.'" '"

22 And Jehoiakim the king sent Elnathan, the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt.

4 "Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Return from your evil ways and your evil deeds!" ' But they did not hear and they did not pay attention to me," declares the LORD.
5 Where are your fathers, and the prophets? Will they live forever?

47 Woe to you! You build tombs for the prophets, but it was your fathers who killed them.
48 So you witness that you approve of the deeds of your fathers; for they killed them, and you build their tombs.

30 And you say, 'If we had lived in the days of our forefathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.'
31 So you testify against yourselves that you are the sons of those who murdered the prophets.
32 Fill up, then, the measure of the sins of your fathers.
33 You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape the sentence of hell?
34 Because of this, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and others you will flog in your synagogues and persecute in town after town.
35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
36 I tell you truly all this will come on this generation.

9 This is how God’s love was revealed among us: God sent His one and only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.
10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
11 Dear friends, if God has so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
13 We know that we live with him and he with us, because he has given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world.

8 He also sent them to Bethlehem, telling them, "Go and make a careful search for the child, and when you have found him report to me, so that I may go and worship him too."
9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stood over the place where the Child was.
10 When they saw the star, they were very glad,
11 On coming into the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, and of frankincense, and of myrrh.
12 And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew to their country by another route.
13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.”

11 But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

17 Now if we are children, we are heirs heirs of God and co-heirs with the Messiah if, in fact, we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be revealed in us.
19 For the creation waits with eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but by the will of him who subjected it in hope;
21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time.
23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
1 Corinthians 15:42
42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead: What is sown is perishable; it is raised imperishable.

49 And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so also shall we bear the likeness of the heavenly man.
1 Corinthians 15:52-54
52 in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
53 For the perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
Philippians 3:21
21 who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17
13 Now then, brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who have ‘fallen asleep’, so that you don’t grieve like the rest, who have no hope.
14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.
15 For this we say to you by a word of the Lord, that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will absolutely not precede those who have fallen asleep;
16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever.
1 John 3:1-2
1 Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.
2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is.
Revelation 5:6-14
6 Then I saw a Lamb who appeared to have been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the sevenfold Spirit of God sent out into all the earth.
7 And he came and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne.
8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb; each one had a harp, and they had golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
9 They sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slaughtered. With your blood you purchased people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on the earth."
11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels about the throne, and about the beasts and the elders, and I heard thousand thousands,
12 In a loud voice they said: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!”
13 And I heard every creature in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever.”

11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God,
12 saying, "Amen! Praise and glory, and wisdom and thanksgiving, and honor and power and strength be to our God forever and ever. Amen!"

4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
5 And there will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light; and they will reign for ever and ever.

2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire coming from the middle of a bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire but that it was not burning up.
3 Moses said, “I will go now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.”
4 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from the center of the bush, "Moses! Moses!" He said, "Here I am."
5 "Do not come any closer," God said. "Remove your sandals from your feet, because the place where you are standing is holy ground."
6 Then he said, "I am the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.

15 God also said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites, 'The LORD, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob sent me to you.' This is my name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered from generation to generation.

4 Again, he sent other servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner. My oxen and fatlings have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
5 But they paid no attention and went off, one to his estate, another to his business,
6 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.
7 The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited were not worthy.
9 Go therefore to the crossroads and invite to the banquet as many as you can find.’
10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered everyone they could find, both evil and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 "When the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.
12 ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But the man was speechless.
13 Then the king told the servants, ‘Tie him hand and foot and throw him outside into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 For many are invited but few are chosen.'"
15 Then the Pharisees went out and plotted to trap Jesus in His words.
16 They sent their disciples to Him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are honest and that You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You defer to no one, because You pay no attention to external appearance.
17 Tell us, then, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
18 But Jesus, knowing their malice, said, Hypocrites! Why do ye try me?
19 Show me the coin used for the tax." They brought him a denarius.
20 He asked them, "Whose head is this, and whose inscription?"
21 “Caesar’s,” they answered. So Jesus told them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
22 When they heard this, they were amazed. Then they left him and went away.

37 Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.'
31 A second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
32 “Right, Teacher,” the scribe replied. “You have stated correctly that God is One and there is no other but Him,
33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices."

28 In the same way, on the outside you also appear righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

14 But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.

4 Treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God;
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And turn away from these.
6 They are the kind of people who enter homes and influence [morally] weak-willed women, loaded down with sins, [and] led on by all kinds of evil desires.
