Lamentations 2 Cross References - VIN

1 How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger! He has cast down the beauty of Israel from heaven to the earth and has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger. 2 The Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob without pity. He has thrown down in his wrath the strongholds of the daughter of Judah. He has brought them down to the ground. He has profaned the kingdom and its princes. 3 In fierce anger he has cut off all the horn of Israel. He has drawn back his right hand from before the enemy. And he has burned up Jacob like a flaming fire which devours round about. 4 He has bent his bow like an enemy. He has stood with his right hand as an adversary, and has slain all who were pleasant to the eye. He has poured out his wrath like fire in the tent of the daughter of Zion. 5 The Lord has become as an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces. He has destroyed his strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation in the daughter of Judah. 6 He has broken down his dwelling place like the garden; he has ruined his appointed feasts; the LORD has made them forget in Zion festival and Sabbath, and he has despised in his anger king and priest. 7 The LORD has rejected his altar, he has disowned his sanctuary, and has given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces. They have made a shout in the house of the LORD, as in the day of a solemn assembly. 8 The LORD has determined to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion. He has stretched out the line, he has not withdrawn his hand from destroying. He has made the rampart and wall to lament; they languish together. 9 Her gates are sunk into the ground; he has destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the nations: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD. 10 The elders of the daughter of Zion sit upon the ground and are silent; they send up dust on their heads; they gird on sackcloth. The virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground. 11 ( λ - [Kaf.]) My eyes are worn out from crying, my insides are churning, My emotions pour out in grief because my people are destroyed Children and infants faint in the streets of the city. 12 They tell their mothers, "Where is grain and wine?" When they faint as the wounded in the streets of the city, as their lives fade away in their mothers' bosom. 13 What can I say for you? What can I compare to you, O daughter of Jerusalem? To what can I liken you so that I can comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For your destruction is as vast as the sea; who can heal you? 14 Your prophets had a vision for you, false and worthless; they have not exposed your sin, to restore your fortune; they have seen oracles for you, false and misleading. 15 All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem: 'Is this the city that men called the perfection of beauty, the joy of the whole earth?' 16 All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you; they hiss and gnash the teeth; they say, We have swallowed her up; certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it! 17 the LORD has done what he purposed. He has fulfilled his word that he commanded in the days of long-ago. He has thrown down and has not pitied. And he has caused the enemy to rejoice over you. He has exalted the horn of your adversaries. 18 Their heart cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night: give yourself no relief; let not your eyes rest. 19 Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches! Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift up your hands toward him for the life of your young children, who faint for hunger at the head of every street. 20 ( ψ - [Resh.]) Look, LORD, and take note: To whom you've done this? Should women eat their offspring, the children they have cuddled? Should priests and prophets be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord? 21 The youth and the old man lie on the ground in the streets; my virgins and my young men have fallen by the sword. You have killed them in the day of your anger; you have slaughtered, without pity. 22 You have summoned my horror from all around, as if for a feast day; no one on the day of the LORD's anger is a fugitive and a survivor; whoever I have cared for and reared, my enemy has destroyed.

It was three inches thick and hollow. 22 And there was a crown of brass on it: the crown was five cubits high, circled with a network and apples all of brass; and the second pillar had the same. 23 There were ninety-six pomegranates on the sides. The total number of pomegranates on the surrounding filigree was one hundred. 24 And the captain of the guard took Serayah the chief priest, and Zephanyah the priest second in rank, and the three door-keepers; 25 From the city he also took an army commander, seven men who had access to the king whom he found in the city, the scribe who was in charge of the militia, and sixty common people whom he found in the city. 26 Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah. 27 And the king of Babylon put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. 14 And if you will not listen to Me, and do not do all these commands; 15 and if you reject my statutes and if your inner self abhors my regulations, to not carry out all my commands by your breaking my covenant, 16 I in turn will do this to you: then I will summon onto you horror, the wasting disease, and the fever that wastes eyes and that drains away life; and you shall sow your seed in vain, and your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will set my face against you, and you will be struck before your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you; and you will flee when no one pursues you. 18 "'If you still will not listen to me, I will discipline you seven times for your sins. 19 I will break the pride of your power, and I will make your sky like iron, and your soil like bronze. 20 and your strength will be spent in vain, for your land will not yield its increase, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit. 21 If you walk contrary to me, and will not hearken to me, I will bring seven times more plagues upon you for your sins. 22 "'I will send wild animals among you. They will rob you of your children. They will destroy your cattle, and make you so few that your roads will be deserted. 23 And if over these things you should not be corrected, but should go to me sideways, 24 I also will walk contrary to you, and will strike you seven times for your sins. 25 I will bring the sword on you avenging the vengeance of the covenant. When you will be gathered into your cities then I will send the plague into your midst, and you will be given into the hand of the enemy. 26 When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven and they will deliver your bread again by weight and you will eat and not be satisfied. 27 "'If in spite of this you do not listen to me and still resist me, 28 then I will go against you in hostile anger, and also I myself will discipline you seven times for your sins. 29 so that ye shall eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters. 30 I will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and cast your dead bodies upon the bodies of your idols; and my soul will abhor you. 31 I will lay your cities waste, and will bring your sanctuaries to desolation. I will not take delight in the sweet fragrance of your offerings. 32 And I myself will lay waste the land, and your enemies who are living in it shall be appalled over it. 33 I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw out the sword after you. Your land will be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste. 34 Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies' land. Even then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35 As long as it lies desolate it shall have rest, even the rest which it did not have in your sabbaths, when you lived on it. 36 "'As for those of you who are left, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies: and the sound of a driven leaf will put them to flight; and they shall flee, as one flees from the sword; and they will fall when no one pursues. 37 They will stumble over one another, as it were before the sword, when no one pursues: and you will have no power to stand before your enemies. 38 You will perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies will devour you. 39 "'Those who are left will waste away in the lands of their enemies because of their sins and the sins of their ancestors. 40 "'However if they confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors and the treacherous things they did to oppose me, 41 I also will walk contrary to them and will bring them into the land of their enemies. If then their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they then pay for their iniquity, 42 then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham; and I will remember the land. 43 The land also will be left by them, and will enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them; and they will accept the punishment of their iniquity because they rejected my ordinances, and their soul abhorred my statutes. 44 And in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies I will not reject them, and I will not abhor them to destroy them, to break my covenant with them, because I am the LORD their God. 45 but for their sakes I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD. 46 These are the rules and the regulations and the laws that the LORD gave between himself and the Israelites on Mount Sinai through Moses.

15 "But if you don't obey the LORD your God and faithfully carry out all his commands and statutes that I'm giving you today, then all these curses will come upon you and overwhelm you. 16 You shall be cursed in the city, and cursed in the field. 17 Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed. 18 "The fruit of your womb shall be cursed and the fruit of you ground, the calves of your cattle and the lambs of your flock. 19 You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out. 20 the LORD will send on you cursing, confusion and rebuke in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your doings by which you have forsaken Him. 21 The LORD will cause you to be ill with long-lasting diseases until you are wiped out from the land that you are entering to possess. 22 the LORD shall smite you with attenuation, with fever and inflammation, with hot heat and drought, with blasting and mildew, and they will pursue you until you perish. 23 The sky above your head will become bronze while the ground beneath you will become iron. 24 the LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust. It will come down on you from the sky, until you are destroyed. 25 "the LORD will cause you to be stricken before your enemies. You will go out one way against them, and flee seven ways from them. You will be an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth. 26 Your bodies will be meat for all the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth; there will be no one to send them away. 27 the LORD will strike you with the boil of Egypt and with the tumours, the scurvy and the itch, from which you cannot be healed. 28 The LORD shall strike you with madness, and blindness, and confusion of mind: 29 and you will grope at noonday, as the blind man gropes in darkness. And you will not prosper in your ways. And you will only be oppressed and robbed always and there will be none to save you. 30 You'll be engaged to a woman, but another man will rape her. You'll build a house but you won't live in it. You'll plant a vineyard but you won't harvest it. 31 Your ox will be slain before your eyes and you will not eat of it. Your donkey will be violently taken away from before your face and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies and you will have none to save you. 32 Your sons and your daughters shall be given to other people, and you will be looking on longingly for them all day, but you will be powerless to do anything. 33 A people whom you don't know will devour what your land and labor produces. You'll be only oppressed and discouraged continually 34 so that the sights that you see with your eyes will drive you mad. 35 The LORD shall strike you in the knees, and in the legs, with painful boils that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot unto the top of your head. 36 "the LORD will bring you and your king, whom you set over you, to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods made of wood and stone. 37 And you will become a wonder and a name of shame among all the nations where the Lord will take you. 38 You shall carry much seed out to the field, and you shall gather in little; for the locusts will devour it. 39 You will plant vineyards and dress them, but you will neither drink of the wine, nor harvest, because worms will eat them. 40 You will have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you won't anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives will drop off. 41 You will beget sons and daughters, but they will not be your, for they will go into captivity. 42 »Locusts will take over all your trees and the fruit of your land. 43 The foreigner who is among you will mount up above you higher and higher, and you will come down lower and lower. 44 He will lend to you and you will not lend to him. He will be the head and you will be the tail. 45 All these curses will come on you, and will pursue you and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you didn't listen to the LORD your God's voice, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you. 46 They will be for a sign and for a wonder to you and to your offspring forever. 47 "Because you didn't serve the LORD your God joyfully and wholeheartedly, despite the abundance of everything you have, 48 therefore you will serve your enemies whom Yahweh sends against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in lack of all things. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you. 49 "the LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, as the eagle swoops down, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 A hard-faced nation, who will have no respect for the old or mercy for the young: 51 And it shall consume the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground until you are destroyed, and who will not leave for you any grain, wine, and olive oil, calves of your herds, and lambs of your flock until it has destroyed you. 52 "They will blockade all your cities until the high, fortified walls you trust come down everywhere in your land. They will blockade all the cities everywhere in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. 53 "Because of the hardships your enemies will make you suffer during the blockade, you will eat the flesh of your own children, the sons and daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you. 54 "The kindest and most sensitive man among you will become stingy toward his brother, the wife he loves, and the children he still has left. 55 »He will give none of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all that he has left. These are hardships your enemies will make you suffer during the blockade of all your cities. 56 "The kindest and most sensitive woman among you, so sensitive and tender that she would not even step on an ant, will become stingy toward the husband she loves or toward her own son or daughter. 57 She will eat her afterbirth and her newborn children secretly since there will be nothing left on account of the siege and distress with which your enemy will oppress you in your cities." 58 If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, the LORD your God, 59 then he will inflict extraordinary plagues on you and your children, great and lasting plagues, and severe and lasting illnesses. 60 "He will bring all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded. They will cling to you. 61 "the LORD will also bring you every kind of sickness and plague not written in this Book of the Law. They will continue until you are dead. 62 "You were at one time as numerous as the stars in the sky. But only a few of you will be left. This is because you did not obey the LORD your God. 63 Just as the LORD delighted to prosper and increase you, so now the LORD will delight to destroy, exterminate, and banish you from the land that you are about to enter to possess." 64 "He'll scatter you among the peoples from one end of the earth to the other, and there you'll serve other gods made of wood and stones, which neither you nor your ancestors have known. 65 Among those nations you'll have no rest. There'll be no resting place for the soles of your feet. Instead, the LORD will give you an anxious heart, failing eyesight, and a despairing spirit. 66 You'll cling to life, being fearful by both night and day, with no assurance of survival. 67 In the morning you will say, If only it was evening! And at evening you will say, If only morning would come! Because of the fear in your hearts and the things which your eyes will see. 68 Finally, the LORD will bring you back to Egypt by ship, a place that I said you'll never see again. There you'll try to sell yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you."

Deuteronomy 29:18-23

18 Be alert so there is no man, woman, family, or a tribe whose heart is turning away from the LORD your God to go and serve the gods of those nations. "Be alert so there will be no root among you that produces poisonous and bitter fruit, 19 because when such a person hears the words of this oath, he will bless himself and say: 'I will have a peaceful life, even though I'm determined to be stubborn.' By doing this he will be sweeping away both watered and parched ground alike.' 20 the LORD will never be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger of the LORD and / His jealousy will burn against that man. Every curse which is written in this book will rest on him. the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven. 21 The LORD will set him apart from all the tribes of Israel for destruction, according to the curses of the covenant that were written in this book of the Law." 22 »The next generation of your children and foreigners who come from distant countries will see the plagues that have happened in this land and the diseases the LORD sent here. 23 [that] the whole land of it is brimstone, and salt, [and] a burning, [that] it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which LORD overthrew in his anger, and i

15 But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked; you grew fat, thick and sated. I will see what their end will be; for they are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness. 21 They made me jealous with not God; They irritated me with their vanities: And I will make them jealous with not a people; With a foolish nation will I irritate them. 22 For a fire has been kindled in My anger, and it burns to the lowest Sheol, and consumes the earth and its produce; and sets on fire the foundations of the mountains. 23 I will heap evils upon them, and will spend my arrows among them. 24 While they are wasting by famine, and voracious birds; The burning carbuncle also shall be incurable; I will send against them the teeth of wild beasts, With the venom of serpents, trailing on the ground. 25 Outside the sword will bereave, and in the rooms, terror on both young man and virgin, the nursing infant with the gray-haired man. 26 I said: "I will scatter them, erasing their memory from the human race, 27 Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should misunderstand, and lest they should say, Our hand has triumphed, and the LORD has not done all this.

Lamentations 4:1-9

1 How the gold has grown dim, the pure gold has changed. The stones of holiness are scattered at the head of every street. 2 The precious sons of Zion are weighed against pure gold; how they are counted as earthen vessels, the work of a potter's hand! 3 Even the jackals offer their breast. They nurse their young ones. But the daughter of my people has become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness. 4 The nursing infant's tongue sticks to the roof of his mouth for thirst. The young children ask for bread, but no one gives to them. 5 Those who ate delicacies are destitute in the streets. Those who were brought up in purple embrace ash heaps. 6 The punishment of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of Sodom, which was overturned suddenly without a hand lifted to help her. 7 Her consecrated ones were purer than snow, whiter than milk; their bodies more ruddy than rubies, their appearance was like lapis lazuli. 8 Now their appearance is blacker than soot, they are not recognized in the streets; their skin has shriveled on their bones, it has become dry like wood. 9 Those killed by the sword are better off than those who died of starvation. For these die slowly and waste away from lack of food from the field.

It will be all that he has left. These are hardships your enemies will make you suffer during the blockade of all your cities. 56 "The kindest and most sensitive woman among you, so sensitive and tender that she would not even step on an ant, will become stingy toward the husband she loves or toward her own son or daughter. 57 She will eat her afterbirth and her newborn children secretly since there will be nothing left on account of the siege and distress with which your enemy will oppress you in your cities."

8 But now, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay and you our potter and we are all the work of your hand. 9 Do not be angry very severely, O LORD, nor remember iniquity forever. Behold, look, we beseech you, we are all your people. 10 Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. 11 Our holy and beautiful Temple where our ancestors praised you has been burned to the ground. All that we valued has been ruined. 12 Despite these things, the LORD, will you restrain yourself? Will you be silent and make us suffer beyond measure?

Jeremiah 14:15-18

15 Therefore the LORD says concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, but I didn't send them, yet they say, 'Sword and famine will not be in this land.' Those prophets will be consumed by sword and famine. 16 The people to whom they have prophesied will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword. There will be no one to bury them, their wives, their sons, or their daughters. I'll pour out on them the judgment they deserve.'" 17 You, say this word to them; My eyes drip with tears night and day and they cease not: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breaking - with a mighty stroking stroke. 18 If I go out into the field, I see those slain by the sword! For I'll bring disaster on them, the year of their judgment," declares the LORD. 13 "Among the prophets of Samaria I saw a disgusting thing, for they prophesied by Baal and led my people Israel astray. 14 In the prophets of Jerusalem I have also seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness. They have all become to me as Sodom, and its inhabitants as Gomorrah.” 15 Therefore the LORD of Armies says concerning the prophets: “Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink poisoned water; for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone out into all the land.”
