¹ After the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked the LORD (YHWH), saying: "Who will go first to fight against the Canaanites for us?" ² And the LORD said, `Judah does go up; lo, I have given the land into his hand.. ³ And Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot so that we may fight against the Canaanites. And I likewise will go with you into your lot. So Simeon went with him. ⁴ And Judah went up, and the LORD gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, and they defeated ten thousand men at Bezek. ⁵ And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought against him, and struck the Canaanites and the Perizzites. ⁶ Adoni-bezek fled and they chased him, caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his big toes. ⁷ Adoni-bezek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table; just as I have done, so God has repaid to me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there. ⁸ The men of Judah fought against Jerusalem and took it, putting it to the sword, and set the city on fire. ⁹ Afterwards the men of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who lived in the hill country, in the South and in the lowland. ¹⁰ They attacked the Canaanites who inhabited Hebron (formerly known as Kiriath-arba) and fought Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai. ¹¹ From there they advanced against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher: ¹² And Caleb said, I will give Achsah, my daughter, as wife to the man who overcomes Kiriath-sepher and takes it. ¹³ And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; so he gave him his daughter Achsah for his wife. ¹⁴ When she came to him she persuaded him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey Caleb said to her: "What do you wish?" ¹⁵ And she said to him, "Give me ⌊a gift⌋; you have given me the land of the Negev, and give me also a spring of water." And Caleb gave to her the upper and lower spring. ¹⁶ And the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, went up from the city of palm-trees with the sons of Judah to the desert of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and he went up and dwelt with the people: ¹⁷ And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah. ¹⁸ The army of Judah captured Gaza and its territory, Ashkelon and its territory, and Ekron and its territory. ¹⁹ And the LORD was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain because they had chariots of iron. ²⁰ So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses,—and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak. ²¹ And the children of Judah did not make the Jebusites who were living in Jerusalem go out; the Jebusites are still living with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem. ²² The house of Joseph also attacked Bethel: and the LORD was with them. ²³ For when they were besieging the city, which before was called Luza, ²⁴ The spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said to him: "Show us the entrance into the city, and we will show you mercy." ²⁵ He showed them the entrance into the city and they put the city to the sword, but they let the man go and all his family. ²⁶ The man went into the land of the Hittites and built a city and called it Luz, which is its name to this day. ²⁷ Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean, Taanach, Dor, Ibleam or Megiddo and their surrounding settlements; the Canaanites continued to dwell in that land. ²⁸ And whenever Israel became strong, they put the Canaanites to forced work, without driving them out completely. ²⁹ Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them. ³⁰ Zebulun didn't drive out the inhabitants of Kitron or Nahalol, but the Canaanites lived among them and became subject to forced labour. ³¹ Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, Sidon, Ahlab, Aczib, Helbah, Aphik, or Rehob, ³² And the Asherite dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they drove not out ³³ Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh or Beth-anath, but lived in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and Beth-anath became forced labor for them. ³⁴ The Amorites pressed the descendants of Dan to the hill country, and they did not allow them to come down to the plain; ³⁵ And the Amorites desired to dwell in Mount Heres in Aijalon and in Shaalbim; yet when the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, they made them tributaries. ³⁶ The border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upward.

³⁰ You will put the Urim and the Thummim into the breastplate of judgment, and they will come to be on Aaron's heart when he enters before the LORD. Thus Aaron will bear the judgment of the sons of Israel on his heart before the LORD continually.

²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before LORD. At his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the sons of Israel with him, even

²⁹ And after those things, Joshua the son of Nave, the servant of the Lord died at the age of a hundred and ten years; ³⁰ They buried him in the territory of his inheritance, at Timnath-Serah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.

²⁷ Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean, Taanach, Dor, Ibleam or Megiddo and their surrounding settlements; the Canaanites continued to dwell in that land.

¹ Now these are the nations that the LORD left to test the Israelites who had not known all the wars of Canaan. ² He did this to teach warfare to the generations of the children of Israel who had not had previous battle experience. ³ the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon up to Lebo-Hamath. ⁴ They were left to test Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the LORD's commandments, which he commanded their fathers by Moses. ⁵ The Israelites lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, ⁶ They took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods.

¹⁸ The Israelites went up to Bethel and asked counsel of God. They said, Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin? the LORD said, Judah first.

²⁸ and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron ministered before it), Shall we yet again go out to fight against Benjamin our brother, or not? the LORD said, Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.

⁹ Then Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, said: I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub. ¹⁰ Ahimelech inquired of the LORD for him, gave him provisions, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine."

⁹ When David learned that Saul was plotting evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here." ¹⁰ David said, "LORD God of Israel. Your servant has definitely heard that Saul intends to come to Keilah to destroy the town because of me.

⁸ "Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies. Your father's sons will bow down before you. ⁹ Judah is a lion's whelp. My son, you have risen up from the prey; he stoops, he crouches like a lion; and like a lioness, who can rouse him? ¹⁰ The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. To him will the obedience of the peoples be.

³ "On the east side, facing the rising sun, the armies led by Judah will camp under their flag. The leader for the people of Judah is Nahshon, son of Amminadab.

¹² And he who brought his offering the first day was Nahshon the son of Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah;

⁶⁸ But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved. ⁶⁹ And he built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that he established forever. ⁷⁰ He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;

¹⁴ For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.

⁵ Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has triumphed to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

¹¹ Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. And its rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war. ¹² His eyes are a flame of fire, and on his head are many crowns. He had a name written which no one knows but he himself. ¹³ He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is The Word of God. ¹⁴ The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses, and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. ¹⁵ And from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God, the Almighty. ¹⁶ and on his robe and on his thigh he has this name written-- 'KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.'

³³ And she conceived again, and bare a son, and said. Because the LORD heard that, I, was I hated, he gave me, this one also. So she called his name Simeon.

¹ And the second lot came out for the children of Simeon; and their inheritance was in the midst of the lots of the children of Judah.

¹⁷ And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

¹¹ He said, "If the Arameans prove too strong for me, then you are to help me. If the Ammonites prove too strong for you, then I will come help you.

²⁸ I'll send hornets ahead of you and they'll drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites before you. ²⁹ I shall not drive them out from before you in one year lest the land should become desolate, and the field animal be many against you.

² and when the LORD your God delivers them up before you and you defeat them, then you must utterly destroy them. You must make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them,

³ You should know today that the LORD your God is the one crossing ahead of you as a devouring fire; he will destroy them, and he will subdue them before you; so you will dispossess them, and you will destroy them quickly, just as the LORD promised you.

⁸ And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them, for I have given them into your hand; no one will withstand you. ⁹ So after an all-night march from Gilgal, Joshua attacked them by surprise. ¹⁰ the LORD threw them into confusion before Israel. They were killed in a great battle at Gibeon. They were chased along the road that goes up to Beth-horon. They were slaughtered all the way to Azekah, and Makkedah.

⁶ And the LORD said to Joshua, Do not fear before them, for about this time tomorrow I will give all of them up wounded before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. ⁷ So Joshua and his entire fighting force approached them suddenly by the waters of Merom and attacked them. ⁸ and Yah Veh gives them into the hand of Yisra El who smites them and pursues them to great Sidon and to Misrephoth Mayim and to the valley of Mispeh from the rising; they smite them until no survivors survive:

⁸ And when he numbered them in Bezek, the sons of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

⁶ Jonathan said to his armor bearer, "Come, let's go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised ones. Perhaps the LORD will work for us, since nothing prevents the LORD from delivering, whether by many or by a few."

¹⁰ But if they say, 'Come up to us,' then we will go up, for Yahweh has given them into our hand, and this will be the sign for us."

⁴⁶ Today the LORD shall shut you up into my hand, and I shall strike you, and take off your head from you and give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the earth today. And all the earth shall know that there is a God for Israel. ⁴⁷ and all this assembly do know that not by sword and by spear does the LORD save, that the battle [is] the LORD's, and He has given you into our hand..

⁶ And the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth-Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up, and the Lord will give it into the king`s hand.

¹⁵ When he came to the king, the king asked him, "Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-Gilead to the battle, or shall we refrain?" He said to him, "Go up and triumph, and the LORD will give it into the hand of the king."

²³ And if there is serious injury, you will give life in place of life, ²⁴ eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, ²⁵ burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

¹⁹ If anyone injures his neighbor; as he has done, so shall it be done to him: ²⁰ fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has injured someone, so shall it be done to him. ²¹ "'Whoever kills an animal shall replace it, but whoever kills a human being shall be put to death.

³³ And Samuel said, As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women. And Samuel cut Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

¹ Woe to you who destroy for you have not been destroyed! Woe to you who betray for you who have not been betrayed! When you stop destroying you will be destroyed; when you stop betraying you will be betrayed.

¹ Do not judge, or you will be judged. ² For with the same judgment you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

³⁷ Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. ³⁸ Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

¹⁵ They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts accusing or else excusing them

¹³ For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

¹⁰ If anyone is going into captivity, into captivity he goes. If anyone is to be killed by the sword, by the sword he is to be killed. Here is the patient endurance and the faith of the saints.

⁶ for they shed the blood of your people and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink, as they deserve."

⁶³ And the Jebusite dwelt in Jerusalem, and the children of Juda could not destroy them; and the Jebusites dwelt in Jerusalem to this day.

²¹ And the children of Judah did not make the Jebusites who were living in Jerusalem go out; the Jebusites are still living with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem.

³⁶ And Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to Hebron, and made an attack on it;

²¹ At that time Joshua came and exterminated the Anakites from the hill country, from Hebron, Debir, Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel; Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

¹³ ⌊According to the commandment of Yahweh to Joshua⌋, he gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh a plot of ground among the descendants of Judah, Kiriath Arba, which is Hebron (Arba was Anak's father). ¹⁴ Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak. ¹⁵ From there he went up against the people of Debir: now the name of Debir before that was Kiriath-sepher. ¹⁶ Then Caleb said, "I will give my daughter Achsah in marriage to the one who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it." ¹⁷ And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother, took it: so he gave him his daughter Achsah for his wife. ¹⁸ Sometime later, she came to Othniel and persuaded him to ask her father for a field. As she dismounted from her donkey, Caleb asked her, "What do you want?" ¹⁹ She replied, "Give me a blessing, since you have given me the land of the Negev. Give me also some springs of water." So he gave her the upper and lower springs. ²⁰ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of juda.

²² They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai the descendants of the Anakites were. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

³³ There we saw the Nephilim (the descendants of Anak came from the Nephilim), and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their eyes."

¹⁵ Now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba, after the greatest man among the Anakim. Then the land had rest from war.

¹⁶ The king is not saved by great force; a mighty man is not saved by great strength. ¹⁷ It is vain to trust in a horse for deliverance, even with its great strength, it cannot deliver.

¹¹ I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to the intelligent, nor yet favour to men of knowledge; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

²³ [J] Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom: nor the mighty man boast of his strength; neither let the rich man boast of his riches:

³⁸ And Joshua and all Israel with him went on to make an attack on Debir; ³⁹ And he took it, with its king and all its towns: and he put them to the sword, giving every person in it to the curse; all were put to death: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir and its king.

¹⁵ From there he went up against the people of Debir: now the name of Debir before that was Kiriath-sepher. ¹⁶ Then Caleb said, "I will give my daughter Achsah in marriage to the one who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it." ¹⁷ And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother, took it: so he gave him his daughter Achsah for his wife.

²⁵ The men of Israel said, Have you seen this man who keeps coming up? He comes up to defy Israel. The king has promised to give great riches to the man who kills him, and will give him his daughter and make his father's house free in Israel.

²³ Saul's servants told David this. David said, Does it seem to you a light thing to be the king's son-in-law, since I am a poor man, and little known?

⁹ And when the sons of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the sons of Israel, Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, who saved them.

¹¹ Please take my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he accepted.

¹⁸ Then Abigail hurried and took two hundred loaves of bread, two containers of wine, five sheep ready dressed, five seahs of parched grain, one hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on donkeys.

²⁷ Let this gift which your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who follow my lord.

⁵ So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to visit you beforehand and make arrangements for the bountiful gift you had promised. This way, your gift will be prepared generously and not begrudgingly.

⁷ Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is tended receives the blessing of God.

⁹ Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

¹ ¶ Now as Moses shepherded the sheep of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, he led the flock to the backside of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

¹⁸ And Moses went back to Jethro, his father-in-law, and said to him, Let me go back now to my relations in Egypt and see if they are still living. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

¹ Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father-in-law, heard all that God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, and how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.

⁷ When Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, he bowed low and kissed him, and they greeted one another. Then they went into the tent.

¹² And Jethro, Moses` father-in-law, took a burnt-offering and sacrifices for God; and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses` father-in-law in the presence of God.

¹⁴ When Moses' father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, "What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, with all the people standing around you from morning until evening?" ¹⁵ Moses said to his father-in-law, "Because the people come to me to seek God's will. ¹⁶ When they have a matter, they come to me, and I judge between one and another, and I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws. ¹⁷ Moses' father-in-law said to him, "What you are doing is not good.

²⁷ Moses sent his father-in-law on his way, and he went to his own land.

²⁹ Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, We are journeying to the place of which the LORD said, 'I will give it to you'. Come with us, and we will treat you well; for the LORD has spoken good concerning Israel. ³⁰ He said to him, "I will not go; but I will depart to my own land, and to my relatives." ³¹ "Please do not leave us," Moses said. "You know where we can camp in the desert. You can be our guide. ³² "If you come with us, we will share with you all the blessings that the LORD gives us."

¹ When the Canaanite king of Arad, dwelling in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming by way of Atharim, he fought against Israel and captured captives from him.

²¹ He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable and said, Your dwelling place is strong, your nest is set in the rock. ²² But still the Kenites will be wasted, till Asshur takes you away prisoner.

³ and the Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar.

¹⁴ the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;

¹³ He gathered to himself the Ammonites and Amalekites, and he went and defeated Israel, and they took possession of the city of palms.

¹¹ Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, even from the children of Hobab, Moses' brother-in-law, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak in Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh.

¹⁷ Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, because there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

⁶ Saul said to the Kenites, Go away from among the Amalekites so that I don't destroy you with them, for you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

¹⁶ At that time King Ahaz sent to the king of Assyria to help him,

² Go to the family of Archabin and thou shalt bring them to the house of the Lord, into one of the courts, and give them wine to drink.

⁴⁵ Then the Amalekite and the Canaanite, who dwelt in that hill-country, came down, and smote them and beat them down, even unto Hormah.

³ the LORD heard them and helped them conquer the Canaanites. The Israelites completely destroyed them and their cities, and named the place Hormah.

³ And Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot so that we may fight against the Canaanites. And I likewise will go with you into your lot. So Simeon went with him.

¹⁰ Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

³¹ And I will stretch your bounds from the Red Sea even to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the river. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.

²² An Anakim was not left in the land of the sons of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, they were left

³ from the Shihor, which is east of Egypt, up to the border of Ekron to the north, which is reckoned as Canaanite; there are five Philistine rulers: the Gazites, Ashdodites, Ashkelonites, Gittites, Ekronites, and the Avvim.

⁴⁵ Ekron with their towns and villages. ⁴⁶ from Ekron even to the sea, all that were by the side of Ashdod, with their villages. ⁴⁷ Ashdod and its towns and villages, Gaza and its towns and villages as far as the River of Egypt, and the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea.

³ the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon up to Lebo-Hamath.

¹ And Samson went to Gaza and saw a prostitute there and went in to her. ² The people of Gaza discovered that Samson was there. They surrounded the place and waited for him all night long at the city gate. They were quiet all night, thinking: "We will wait until daybreak and kill him."

²¹ And the Philistines seized him, gouged his eyes, and brought him to Gaza. They tied him up with bronze shackles, and he became a grinder in the prison.

¹⁷ These are the gold tumors that the Philistines returned as a guilt offering to the LORD: one for Ashdod, one for Gaza, one for Ashkelon, one for Gath, and one for Ekron.

² And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man. And he was in the house of the Egyptian, his master.

²¹ But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

⁷ And he took six hundred select chariots and all the chariots of Egypt and officers over all of them. ⁸ And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and he chased after the Israelites. (Now the Israelites were going out boldly.) ⁹ The Egyptians pursued them. All the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen, and his army overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baal Zephon. ¹⁰ As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians bearing down on them! Extremely frightened, the Israelites cried out to the LORD. ¹¹ They also said to Moses, "Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you took us out to die in the desert? What have you done to us, by bringing us out of Egypt? ¹² "Did we not say in Egypt: Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert." ¹³ Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never, ever see again. ¹⁴ The LORD will fight for you, and you shall be still." ¹⁵ Then the LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move out! ¹⁶ And you raise your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it so that the sons of Israel may go in the midst of the sea on dry ground. ¹⁷ "I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. ¹⁸ "Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen." ¹⁹ Then the angel of God, who was going in front of the camp of Israel, moved behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front of them and stood behind them, ²⁰ It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet it gave light by night. So the one did not come near the other all night. ²¹ Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. the LORD swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night and turned the sea into dry land. The waters were divided. ²² The Israelites went through the middle of the sea on dry ground. The water stood like a wall on their right and on their left. ²³ The Egyptians pursued them. Pharaoh's horses, chariots, and cavalry followed them into the sea. ²⁴ Just before dawn, the LORD looked down from the column of fire and smoke and threw the Egyptian camp into a panic. ²⁵ He made the wheels of their chariots wobble so that they drove them with difficulty. The Egyptians said, "Let's flee from Israel because the LORD is fighting for them and against us." ²⁶ And the LORD said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen. ²⁷ Moses held out his hand over the sea. At daybreak the water returned to its normal level. The Egyptians tried to escape from the water. But the LORD threw them into the sea. ²⁸ The water returned and covered the chariots, the drivers, and all the Egyptian army that had followed the Israelites into the sea. None of them were left. ²⁹ On the other hand, the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on both sides. ³⁰ On that day the LORD delivered Israel from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead along the seashore. ³¹ And Israel saw the great hand that the LORD displayed against Egypt, and the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in Moses his servant.

⁵ No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you nor forsake you.

⁹ Haven't I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid. Don't be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

¹² Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.

¹ When Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph, ² and to the kings who were in the north in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the Shephelah, and in Naphoth Dor in the west, ³ to the Canaanites in the east and west, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, and the Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah. ⁴ They came out with all their troops and many horses and chariots. Their army was more numerous than the sand of the seashore. ⁵ And all these kings joined forces, and they came and camped together by the waters of Merom to fight with Israel. ⁶ And the LORD said to Joshua, Do not fear before them, for about this time tomorrow I will give all of them up wounded before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. ⁷ So Joshua and his entire fighting force approached them suddenly by the waters of Merom and attacked them. ⁸ and Yah Veh gives them into the hand of Yisra El who smites them and pursues them to great Sidon and to Misrephoth Mayim and to the valley of Mispeh from the rising; they smite them until no survivors survive: ⁹ Joshua did to them as the LORD told him. He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire.

¹² So now give me this hill country that the LORD spoke of on that day, for you heard on that day that the Anakites were there, with great and fortified cities. Perhaps the LORD is with me, and I will drive them out just as the LORD promised."

¹⁶ And the children of Joseph said, The hill-country is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites living in the valley have iron war-carriages, those in Beth-shean and its towns as well as those in the valley of Jezreel. ¹⁷ And Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, "You are many people and have great power; you will not have one allotment only; ¹⁸ "The mountain will be yours. For it is a wood, and you will cut it down. The farthest limits will be yours. You will drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they are strong."

² And the LORD said, `Judah does go up; lo, I have given the land into his hand..

²⁷ Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean, Taanach, Dor, Ibleam or Megiddo and their surrounding settlements; the Canaanites continued to dwell in that land. ²⁸ And whenever Israel became strong, they put the Canaanites to forced work, without driving them out completely. ²⁹ Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them. ³⁰ Zebulun didn't drive out the inhabitants of Kitron or Nahalol, but the Canaanites lived among them and became subject to forced labour. ³¹ Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, Sidon, Ahlab, Aczib, Helbah, Aphik, or Rehob, ³² And the Asherite dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they drove not out

¹² The angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, "The LORD is with you, mighty warrior." ¹³ Gideon said to him Oh, my lord, if the LORD is with us why then has all this happened to us? Where are all His wondrous works which our fathers told us of, saying 'Didn't the LORD bring us up from Egypt?' But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hand of Midian.

¹⁰ David continued to grow more powerful because the LORD God of Hosts was with him.

⁷ And the LORD was with him. He was blessed wherever he went. And he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and did not serve him.

⁷ the LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

⁹ He makes wars cease to the end of the earth. He breaks the bow, and shatters the spear. He burns the chariots in the fire.

¹¹ the LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

¹² In God we will do strength and he will tread down our adversaries.

¹⁴ Therefore the LORD will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel (God with us).

¹⁰ ⌊Make a plan⌋, but it will be frustrated! Speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us!

¹⁰ "'Do not fear for I am with you! Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.'

¹⁴ "Do not be afraid, O worm Jacob, O little Israel, for I will help you. This is the declaration of the LORD, your Redeemer, and the Holy One of Israel. ¹⁵ "See I will make you into a threshing sledge, new and sharp, with many teeth. You will thresh the mountains and crush them. You will reduce the hills to chaff.

²³ “Behold! The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel” (which means, “God with us”).

³⁰ But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me!" ³¹ Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of Peter. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?”

¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" ²⁰ “Because you have so little faith.” He answered. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

³¹ What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

¹³ I can do anything through him who gives me strength.

²⁴ »My servant Caleb has a different attitude and has wholeheartedly followed me, I will bring him to the land he already explored. His descendants will possess it.

³⁶ "'Except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see it. I will give him and his descendants the land he walks on. This is because he followed the LORD wholeheartedly.

⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land on which your feet have trodden shall be your inheritance, and your children's forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God. ¹⁰ And now, as you see, the Lord has kept me safe these forty-five years, from the time when the Lord said this to Moses, while Israel was wandering in the waste land: and now I am eighty-five years old. ¹¹ I am still strong this day, as when the lord sent me: just so strong am i now to go out and to come in for war. ¹² So now give me this hill country that the LORD spoke of on that day, for you heard on that day that the Anakites were there, with great and fortified cities. Perhaps the LORD is with me, and I will drive them out just as the LORD promised." ¹³ Joshua blessed Caleb the son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron for an inheritance. ¹⁴ Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel wholeheartedly.

¹³ ⌊According to the commandment of Yahweh to Joshua⌋, he gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh a plot of ground among the descendants of Judah, Kiriath Arba, which is Hebron (Arba was Anak's father). ¹⁴ Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak.

¹¹ They gave them Kiriath Arba, named after the father of Anak (that is, Hebron), in the hill country of Judah, with its suburbs around it. ¹² But the fields and the villages thereof he had given to Caleb the son of Jephone for his possession.

¹⁰ They attacked the Canaanites who inhabited Hebron (formerly known as Kiriath-arba) and fought Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

¹¹ And first came up the lot of the children of Benjamin by their families, to possess the land between the children of Juda, and the children of Joseph. ¹² Their northern border began at the Jordan and went up to the slope of Jericho on the north and continued into the hill country to the west; it ends at the wilderness of Beth Aven. ¹³ And from there the line goes south to Luz, to the side of Luz which is Beth-el, then down to Ataroth-addar, by the mountain to the south of Beth-horon the lower. ¹⁴ From the hill that lies before Beth-horon southward; and it ended at Kirjath-baal, which is Kirjath-jearim, a city of the children of Judah: this was the west quarter. ¹⁵ The southern side began at the outskirts of Kiriath Jearim. The border went out westward, and went out to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah. ¹⁶ The border went down to the farthest part of the mountain that lies before the Valley of Ben Hinnom, which is in the valley of Rephaim northward. It went down to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of the Jebusite southward, and went down to En Rogel. ¹⁷ It extended northward, went out at En Shemesh, and went out to Geliloth, which is opposite the ascent of Adummim. It went down to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben. ¹⁸ And it passed on to the north to the shoulder of Beth Arabah, and went down to the Arabah. ¹⁹ The border passes on to the slope of Beth-hoglah to the north and ends at the north bay of the Salt Sea at the south end of the Jordan. This is the southern border. ²⁰ The Jordan forms its border on the eastern side. This is the inheritance of the tribe of Benjamin, its borders that surrounds them, according to their families. ²¹ The towns belonging to the tribe of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keriz, ²² Beth Arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel, ²³ Avvim, Parah, Ophrah, ²⁴ Kephar Ammoni, Ophni, and Geba; twelve cities and their villages. ²⁵ Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth, ²⁶ Mizpeh, Kephirah, Mozah, ²⁷ Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah, ²⁸ and Zelah, Eleph, and Jebusi (it [is] Jerusalem), Gibeath, Kirjath:fourteen cities and their villages. This [is] the inheritance of the sons of Benjamin, for their families.

⁸ The men of Judah fought against Jerusalem and took it, putting it to the sword, and set the city on fire.

¹⁰ But the man wouldn't stay that night; he got up and departed, and went towards Jebus (that is Jerusalem) with his two saddled donkeys and his concubine. ¹¹ When they were by Jebus, the day was almost gone, and the servant said to his master, "Please come and let us stop at this city of the Jebusites, and spend the night in it." ¹² His master said to him, We won't go into the city of a foreigner whose people are not Israelites; we will go on to Gibeah.

⁶ The king and his men went to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived in that region. The Jebusites told David: "You will never get in here. Even the blind and the lame could turn you away. In other words he could not enter there." ⁷ David captured the fortress of Zion, the city of David. ⁸ At that time, David had said, "Whoever intends to attack the Jebusites will have to climb up the water shaft to attack the lame and blind, who hate David." Therefore they say, "The blind and lame shall never come into the house." ⁹ David occupied the fortress, naming it the City of David. He built up the surroundings from the terrace ramparts inward.

²⁴ »His bow stayed steady! His arms remained limber because of the help of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the name of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,

¹⁰ for the sons of Joseph:for Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; for Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur;"

³² Of the sons of Joseph, of the sons of Ephraim, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' house, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, everyone able to go out to war:

⁴ For the sons of Joseph were two tribes—Manasseh and Ephraim. And a portion was not given to the Levites in the land, but only cities to dwell in, and their outskirts for their cattle and their herds.

¹ The allotment of the descendants of Joseph went from the Jordan by Jericho, at the waters of Jericho to the east, into the wilderness, going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel; ² It went out from Bethel to Luz, and passed along to the border of the Archites to Ataroth; ³ It proceeded westward to the territory of the Japhletites as far as the territory of lower Beth-horon, then toward Gezer, ending at the Mediterranean Sea. ⁴ Manasseh and Ephraim, the descendants of Joseph, received their inheritance.

¹⁹ And the LORD was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain because they had chariots of iron.

²⁹ Along the borders of Manasseh were Beth Shan, Taanach, Megiddo and Dor, together with their villages. The descendants of Joseph son of Israel lived in these towns.

⁸ Of the tribe of Zebulun, 12,000; Of the tribe of Joseph, 12,000; Of the tribe of Benjamin, 12,000.

¹⁹ And he called the name of the city Bethel, which before was called Luza.

⁶ And Jacob came to Luz in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people with him.

³ Jacob said to Joseph, God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

¹ Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men from Acacia Grove as spies, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and entered the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and spent the night there.

² Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth Aven, east of Bethel, and he said to them, "Go up and spy out Ai." And the men went up and spied out Ai.

² The children of Dan sent five men of their family, men of valour, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to search it, and they said to them, Go, explore the land! They came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.

¹² Now therefore, I pray you, swear to me by the LORD, since I have showed you kindness, that you will also show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token: ¹³ and you will spare my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all that belongs to them; you will deliver our lives from death." ¹⁴ And the men said to her, "Our lives for yours. If you do not report this business of ours, we will show you loyalty and faithfulness when the LORD gives us the land."

¹⁵ David said to him, Will you lead me down to this raiding party? He said, Swear to me by God that you will neither kill me nor deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will take you down to them.

²² Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute's house, and bring the woman and all that she has out from there, as you swore to her.” ²³ And the young men, the spies, went in and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brothers, and all whom she had; yea, they brought all her family, and set them outside the camp of Israel. ²⁴ Then, after burning up the town and everything in it, they put the silver and gold and the vessels of brass and iron into the store-house of the Lord's house. ²⁵ But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute and her family and all who were with her, and she has lived in the midst of Israel until this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

⁶ The LORD had made the Assyrian army hear the sounds of chariots, horses, and a large army, so they told one another, "Look! The king of Israel has hired the kings of the Hittites and the Egyptians to come attack us!"

¹⁷ A war-carriage might be got from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty: they got them at the same rate for all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Aram.

³² You shall not make a covenant with them or with their gods.

¹¹ Within the territories of Issachar and Asher, Manasseh possessed Beth Shan and Ibleam, along with their surrounding towns, as well as Dor (the one on the coast), Endor, Taanach, Megiddo, and their surrounding towns. ¹² Yet the sons of Manasseh were not able to occupy these cities, but the Canaanites wanted to live in that land. ¹³ And it happened, when the Israelites grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor but never drove them out completely.

²⁵ And from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach and Gath-rimmon with their grass-lands, two towns.

¹ After the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked the LORD (YHWH), saying: "Who will go first to fight against the Canaanites for us?"

¹⁹ Kings came; they fought; then the kings of Canaan fought in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of silver.

⁹ But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and the cattle, and the fat ones and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldnʼt utterly destroy them; but everything that was despised and rejected, that they utterly destroyed.

³⁴ They did not destroy the peoples, as the LORD commanded them, ³⁵ but they mingled with the nations and learned their works,

¹⁰ Cursed is he who does the work of the LORD negligently; and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.

¹⁰ They didn't drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwell in the midst of Ephraim to this day, and became servants to do forced labour.

¹⁶ Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had attacked and captured Gezer, burned it down, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and then gave it as a dowry for his daughter, Solomon's wife.

¹⁵ It included Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem: twelve cities with their villages.

²⁴ And the fifth heritage came out for the tribe of Asher by their families. ²⁵ The territorial boundary included Helkath, Hali, Beten, Achshaph, ²⁶ Allammelech, Amad, and Mishal, and on the west Carmel and Shihor-libnath, ²⁷ Then it turns eastward to Beth-dagon and touches Zebulun and the valley of Yiptah-El to the north to Beth Emeck and Neiel; it continues to Cabul from the north, ²⁸ Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah as far as Great Sidon. ²⁹ The border turned to Ramah, to the fortified city of Tyre; and the border turned to Hosah. It ended at the sea by the region of Achzib; ³⁰ Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob: Twenty and two cities with their villages.

³² And the sixth lot came out for Nephthaleim, ³³ Their border was from Heleph, from the oak in Zaanannim, Adami-nekeb, and Jabneel, to Lakkum. It ended at the Jordan. ³⁴ And turning west to Aznoth-tabor, the limit goes out from there to Hukkok, stretching to Zebulun on the south, and Asher on the west, and Judah at Jordan on the east. ³⁵ The fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Chinnereth, ³⁶ Adamah, Ramah, Hazor, ³⁷ Kedesh, Edrei, En Hazor, ³⁸ Iron, Migdal-el, Horem, Beth-anath, and Beth-shemesh, for a total of nineteen towns and their villages.

³⁰ Zebulun didn't drive out the inhabitants of Kitron or Nahalol, but the Canaanites lived among them and became subject to forced labour.

³⁵ And the Amorites desired to dwell in Mount Heres in Aijalon and in Shaalbim; yet when the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, they made them tributaries.

²⁴ Therefore the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

⁴⁷ The boundary of the children of Dan went too little for them: therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, put it to the sword and occupied it. They lived there and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

¹ In those days there was no king in Israel. And in those days the tribe of the Danites was seeking an inheritance for itself to inhabit. For to that day it had not fallen to them by inheritance among the tribes of Israel.

¹² Then Joshua spoke to the LORD, on the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to the Israelites, and he said in the sight of Israel, "Sun in Gibeon, stand still, and moon, in the valley of Aijalon."

⁴² Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah,

¹² and he died and was buried in Aijalon, in the country of Zebulun.

⁹ Ben Deker, in Makaz, in Shaalbim, Beth Shemesh, and Elon Beth Hanan;

⁴ "It will turn southward toward Akrabbim Pass and continue on through Zin as far south as Kadesh Barnea. It will turn northwest to Hazar Addar and on to Azmon,

² Their southern border was from the end of the salt sea, from the bay facing southward; ³ and it went out southward of the ascent of Akrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and went up by the south of Kadesh Barnea, and passed along by Hezron, went up to Addar, and turned about to Karka;
