Has this ever happened in your days, or in the days of your fathers? ³ Tell ye of it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to another generation. ⁴ What the swarming locust has left, the great locust has eaten. What the great locust has left, the grasshopper has eaten. What the grasshopper has left, the caterpillar has eaten. ⁵ Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth. ⁶ For a nation has come up on my land, strong, and without number. His teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the fangs of a lioness. ⁷ He has laid my vine waste, and stripped my fig tree. He has stripped its bark, and thrown it away. Its branches are made white. ⁸ Mourn like a virgin dressed in sackcloth for the husband of her youth! ⁹ The offering and libation are withheld from the house of the LORD. The priests mourn, the ministers of the LORD. ¹⁰ "The field is laid waste, the land mourns. The grain is destroyed, the new wine dried up, the oil fails. ¹¹ Be ashamed, O you farmers; wail, O you vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field has perished. ¹² The vine is dried up, and the fig trees have become few; the pomegranate, and palm tree, and apple, and all the trees of the field have dried up: for the sons of men have abolished joy. ¹³ Gird yourselves, and lament, you priests: wail, you ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God: for the grain offering and the drink offering is withheld from the house of your God. ¹⁴ Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders, and all the inhabitants of the land, to the house of the LORD, your God, and cry to the LORD. ¹⁵ Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand and it will come as destruction from the Almighty. ¹⁶ Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God? ¹⁷ The seed shrivels under their clods; the storage bins are laid waste, the granaries are broken down, for the grain has dried up. ¹⁸ "How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle wander about because they have no pasture. The flocks of sheep suffer. ¹⁹ To you, O LORD, I cry out, because fire has devoured the pastures of the desert, and flames burned all the trees of the field. ²⁰ Also, the beasts of the field long for you, because the courses of water are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the desert.

² The word of the LORD came to him during the thirteen year of the reign of Ammon's son Josiah, the king of Judah ³ the word of the LORD came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD came upon me.

¹ The word of the LORD that came to Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

¹⁶ No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

²¹ for prophecy never came by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

³² For ask now to the former days which were before thee from the day that God created man upon the earth, and from the end of the heavens to the end of the heavens, Has there been as this great word, or was heard like it? ³³ that a nation hath heard the voice of God speaking out of fire as thou hast heard, and yet lived? ³⁴ Or has a god ever attempted to go to take for himself a nation from the midst of a nation, using trials and signs and wonders and war, with an outstretched arm and with great and awesome deeds, like all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? ³⁵ It was shown to you so that you might know that the LORD is God, and no one else beside Him.

⁸ "Ask the former generations and find out what their fathers learned.

¹² "Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?

¹⁰ "The gray-haired and the aged are on our side, men even older than your father.

⁷ Why do the wicked live? They grow old, and become mighty in power.

¹ {To the chief Musician. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.} Hear this, all ye peoples; give ear, all inhabitants of the world:

¹⁷ the LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah. He will bring the king of Assyria upon you.

¹ Come near, you nations, to hear; and hearken, you people: let the earth hear, and all that is in it; the world, and all things that come forth of it.

²¹ 'Hear this please, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear.'

⁷ Oh how terrible! That time will be worse than any like it. It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be rescued from it.

¹ "At that time Michael will stand up. He is the great prince who stands for the children of your people. There will be a time of trouble that has not happened since the beginning of nations. Then your people will be delivered, every one whos name is found written in the book.

¹ Hear the word of the LORD, O children of Israel, for the LORD has an indictment against the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or loyalty, there is no knowledge of God in the land.

¹ "Hear this, O you priests and pay attention, O house of Israel. Give ear (listen)! O house of the king the judgment is about you. You have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread upon Tabor.

¹⁴ Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders, and all the inhabitants of the land, to the house of the LORD, your God, and cry to the LORD.

² A day of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick darkness, like the dawn spreads on the mountains, a great and strong army! There has been nothing like it from old, and after it nothing will be again for generations to come.

¹ Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole clan that I brought up from the land of Egypt:

¹ Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are in the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their lords, Bring and let us drink.

¹ Hear this word, O ye house of Israel. And why? I must make this moan for you:

² Hear, you peoples, all of you. Listen, O earth and all who are in it and let the Sovereign LORD be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.

¹ I said, "Please listen, you heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: Isn't it for you to know justice?

⁹ Hear this, O rulers of the house of Jacob and leaders of the house of Israel, those detesting justice and perverting all that is right,

⁹ He who has ears, let him hear."

²¹ For at that time there will be great tribulation, unmatched from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be seen again.

⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.'

¹ Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, for I've hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials in order to perform these signs of mine among them, ² so you may tell your children and your grandchildren how I toyed with the Egyptians and about my miraculous signs that I performed among them, so all of you may know that I am the LORD.

¹⁴ And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, 'What is this?' Thou shalt say unto him, 'With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

⁷ Repeat them to your sons, and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you arise.

⁶ Let this serve as a sign among you, so that when your children ask in times to come, 'What do these stones mean to you,' ⁷ then you shall tell them, 'Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.'"

²¹ He spoke to the children of israel: »when your children will ask their fathers in time to come, what these stones mean? ²² Tell your children that Israel crossed that Jordan on dry ground,

¹ [To the Chief Musician for the Sons of Korah, a maschil.] We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work you did in their days, in the times of old.

¹⁸ And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare your strength to this generation, your power to all who are to come.

³ That we have heard and known and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children, telling the next generation the praises of the LORD, and his power and his wonders that he has done. ⁵ He established a decree in Jacob, and established the Law in Israel, that he commanded our ancestors to reveal to their children ⁶ so that the next generation might know— children yet to be born— that they might rise up and tell their children, ⁷ that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God's deeds, but keep his commandments, ⁸ They should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not prepare its heart and whose spirit was not faithful to God.

⁴ One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.

¹⁹ "The living, yes the living praise you, as I am doing today! Fathers tell their children about your faithfulness.

⁴ "'If you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory.

¹² And the Lord said to Moses: Stretch forth thy hand upon the land of Egypt unto the locust, that it come upon it, and devour every herb that is left after the hail. ¹³ And Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind on the land all that day and all that night. When it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. ¹⁴ They invaded all of Egypt and landed all over the country in great swarms. Never before had there been so many locusts, nor would there ever be that many again. ¹⁵ They covered all the ground until it was black with them. They ate all the plants and all the fruit on the trees that the hail had left. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant anywhere in Egypt.

³⁸ You shall carry much seed out to the field, and you shall gather in little; for the locusts will devour it.

⁴² »Locusts will take over all your trees and the fruit of your land.

³⁷ When there is famine in the land or pestilence or blasting or mildew or locusts or caterpillars, if their enemy besieges them in the land of their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is,

²⁸ If there is famine in the land, if there is plague, blight or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatever plague or whatever sickness there is;

¹³ If I shut up the heavens, and there is no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send a plague among My people;

⁴⁶ He gave their crops to grasshoppers and their produce to locusts.

³⁴ He spoke, and the locusts came, and the grasshoppers, without number,

⁴ Your plunder, O nations, is harvested like young devouring locusts; like a swarm of cockroaches men pounce on it.

¹⁴ the LORD Almighty has sworn by Himself, saying, Surely I will fill you with men as with locusts; and they shall lift up a shout against you.

²⁷ Set ye up a standard in the land. Blow the trumpet among the nations. Prepare the nations against her. Call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a marshal against her. Cause the horses to come u

²⁵ "Then I will restore to you the years that the locust swarm devoured, as did the young locust, the other locusts, and the ravaging locust, that great army of mine that I sent among you.

⁹ "I afflicted you with blight and fungus; and the locust swarm devoured the harvest of your gardens, your vineyards, your fig trees, and your olive trees, but you have not returned to me," declares the LORD.

¹ Thus has the Lord God showed me; and behold, a swarm of locusts coming from the east; and behold, one caterpillar, King Gog.

¹⁵ There the fire will devour you. The sword will cut you off. It will devour you like the grasshopper. Multiply like grasshoppers. Multiply like the locust. ¹⁶ You have increased your merchants more than the stars of heaven; like the locust they will shed their skin and fly away. ¹⁷ Your guards are like the locusts, and your officials like the swarms of locusts, which settle on the walls on a cold day, but when the sun appears, they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.

³ And out of the smoke, locusts descended on the earth, and they were given power like that of the scorpions of the earth. ⁴ They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. ⁵ They were not permitted to kill them, but only to torture them for five months, and the torture they inflicted was like the torture of a scorpion when it stings a man. ⁶ In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, but death will escape them. ⁷ The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were victor's crowns that looked like gold, and their faces were like human faces.

⁷ The new wine dries up; the vine languishes. All the merry of heart sigh; ⁸ the joy of the tambourine has stopped. The noise of the jubilant has ceased; the joy of the lyre has stopped. ⁹ They no longer drink wine with a song. The beverage is bitter to its drinkers. ¹⁰ The ruined city lies desolate. The entrance to every house is barred and none may enter. ¹¹ In the streets they cry out for wine. Joy turns to gloom and rejoicing is banished from the earth.

¹⁰ In a year you will tremble, carefree ones, for the vintage will come to an end; the harvest will not come. ¹¹ Tremble you women who are at ease. Be troubled you complacent ones. Undress and put sackcloth on your waist, ¹² Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.

⁸ So, put on sackcloth, mourn and wail, because the burning anger of the LORD has not turned away from us."

² Son of man, prophesy and say, Thus says the Sovereign LORD: Wail, Alas for the day!

¹¹ Be ashamed, O you farmers; wail, O you vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field has perished.

¹³ Gird yourselves, and lament, you priests: wail, you ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God: for the grain offering and the drink offering is withheld from the house of your God.

³ "They cast lots for my people, and traded a boy for a prostitute, and sold a girl for wine, that they may drink.

³ You that put off the day of disaster and bring near a reign of violence! ⁴ lying on ivory beds, stretching out on your couches, eating lambs from the flock, and fattened calves from the stall, ⁵ "You sing idle songs to the sound of the harp and like David you improvise on musical instruments. ⁶ who drink bowls of wine, and they anoint with the best of oils; but they are not grieved for the breaking of Joseph! ⁷ "Therefore you will be captured with the first that go captive. Your feasting and lounging will pass away."

¹⁹ "There was once a rich man, who used to dress in purple and fine linen, and to live in luxury every day.

²³ In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side. ²⁴ So he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. For I am in agony in this fire.’ ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus received evil things; but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.

³⁴ But watch yourselves, or your hearts will be weighed down by dissipation, drunkenness, and the worries of life—and that day will spring upon you suddenly like a snare. ³⁵ For it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ But watch at all times, and pray that ye may be able to escape all the things that are about to come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

¹¹ And do this, understanding the occasion. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. ¹² The night is nearly over; the day is at hand. So let us throw aside the deeds of darkness, and put on the armor of light. ¹³ Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. ¹⁴ But clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about gratifying your physical cravings.

¹ Come on now, you rich people, cry and wail over the miseries that are coming upon you.

³⁴ and a fruitful land into a salt waste because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

¹⁴ a generation whose teeth are like swords, and its jaw teeth like knives, to devour the poor from the earth, and the needy from among men.

²⁵ The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer; ²⁶ Coneys are a people not staunch, Yet they make their home in the crag;" ²⁷ The locusts have no king, yet they advance in ranks.

⁸ and it will sweep onward into Judah. It will overflow and pass through; it will reach even to the neck. And the stretching out of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

¹³ On the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yes, on all the houses of joy in the joyous city:

³ They will not live in the LORD's land Ephraim will return to Egypt, and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.

² A day of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick darkness, like the dawn spreads on the mountains, a great and strong army! There has been nothing like it from old, and after it nothing will be again for generations to come. ³ A fire devoureth before them, and behind them a flame blazeth; the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing escapeth them. ⁴ Their form is like the form of horses, and they are running like war-horses. ⁵ As the noise of chariots, on the tops of the mountains they skip, As the noise of a flame of fire devouring stubble, As a mighty people set in array for battle. ⁶ Before them the peoples are in anguish: all faces turn pale. ⁷ They run like mighty men, they climb the wall like warriors. They each march in his line, and they don't swerve off course. ⁸ "They do not crowd each other. They march every one in his path. They burst through the weapons and do not break ranks. ⁹ "They rush to the city. They run on the wall. They climb into the houses. They enter in at the windows like a thief. ¹⁰ Before them the earth quaketh, the heavens tremble; the sun and the moon are become black, and the stars withdraw their shining. ¹¹ The LORD thunders his voice before his army; for his forces are very great; for he is strong who obeys his command; for the day of the LORD is great and very awesome, and who can endure it?

⁷ The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were victor's crowns that looked like gold, and their faces were like human faces. ⁸ their hair was like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. ⁹ They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. ¹⁰ They had tails and stings like scorpions; it was in their tails that their power lay to harm men for five months.

¹⁵ They covered all the ground until it was black with them. They ate all the plants and all the fruit on the trees that the hail had left. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant anywhere in Egypt.

³³ And he struck their vines and fig trees, and shattered the trees of their territory.

⁶ "It will turn into a desert, neither pruned nor cultivated. It will be covered with thorns and briars. I will command the clouds not to send rain."

⁷ The new wine dries up; the vine languishes. All the merry of heart sigh;

¹³ "I will take away their harvest," declares the LORD. "There are no grapes on the vine, and there are no figs on the fig tree, and the leaves wither, and what I gave to them passed over them." '"

¹² I'll destroy her vines and her fig trees, about which she said, 'These are the earnings that my lovers paid me. I'll make them grow into a forest, and the wild animals will eat from them.'

¹² The vine is dried up, and the fig trees have become few; the pomegranate, and palm tree, and apple, and all the trees of the field have dried up: for the sons of men have abolished joy.

¹⁷ Though the fig tree shall not blossom, and fruit is not on the vines; the work of the olive fails, and the fields make no food; the flock is cut off from the fold, and no herd is in the stalls,

¹⁷ who forsakes the prince of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.

¹² And the Lord, the LORD Almighty, called on that day for weeping and mourning, and for baldness and girding with sackcloth.

⁷ The new wine dries up; the vine languishes. All the merry of heart sigh; ⁸ the joy of the tambourine has stopped. The noise of the jubilant has ceased; the joy of the lyre has stopped. ⁹ They no longer drink wine with a song. The beverage is bitter to its drinkers. ¹⁰ The ruined city lies desolate. The entrance to every house is barred and none may enter. ¹¹ In the streets they cry out for wine. Joy turns to gloom and rejoicing is banished from the earth. ¹² The city is left in ruins; its gate is battered to pieces.

¹¹ Tremble you women who are at ease. Be troubled you complacent ones. Undress and put sackcloth on your waist,

⁴ Have you not just called out to me, 'My father, you are the friend of my youth

¹⁷ Thus says the LORD Almighty: "Consider closely, and call for the wailing women, so that they come, and for the skillful women, so that they come. ¹⁸ And let them make haste and take up a lament over us, so that our eyes may run down with tears, and waters flow from our eyelids. ¹⁹ For a sound of mourning is heard from Zion: 'How we're ruined! Our shame is very great, because we have left the land, because our houses are torn down.'"

¹³ Gird yourselves, and lament, you priests: wail, you ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God: for the grain offering and the drink offering is withheld from the house of your God. ¹⁴ Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders, and all the inhabitants of the land, to the house of the LORD, your God, and cry to the LORD. ¹⁵ Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand and it will come as destruction from the Almighty.

¹² "And even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting, and weeping, and wailing." ¹³ Tear your heart, and not your garments, and turn to the LORD, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relents from sending calamity. ¹⁴ Who knoweth, he may turn and grieve,—and leave behind him, a blessing, a meal-offering and a drink-offering, to the LORD your God?

¹⁰ I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all of your songs to dirges. I will cause all of you to put on sackcloth and to shave all of your heads. I will make that time like mourning for an only son, and its conclusion will be like the end of a bitter day."

¹⁵ Did he not make them one? And the vestige of the spirit remains in him. And why did he make them one? He was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and don't break faith with the wife of your youth.

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded. ⁹ Grieve, mourn, and weep. Turn your laughter to mourning, and your joy to gloom.

¹ the LORD continued: "Bring your brother Aaron and his sons Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar to you from all the Israelites. They will serve me as priests.

¹⁰ As for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken Him; yea, priests are serving the LORD, the sons of Aaron and the Levites, in the work,

⁶ But you will be named the priests of the LORD. Men will call you the ministers of our God. You will eat the wealth of the nations and in their glory you will boast yourselves.

⁴ The roads of Zion mourn without any going to the appointed feasts. All her gates are deserted; her priests sigh; her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.

¹⁶ For these things, I am weeping, my eyes flow with tears; because a comforter is far from me, one to restore my life. My sons are desolate because the enemy has prevailed.

⁴ They will not pour out wine offerings to the LORD, nor will they be pleasing to him. Their sacrifices will be to them as the bread of mourners. All who eat of it will be polluted, for their bread will be for their appetite. It will not come into the house of the LORD.

¹⁶ Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

¹⁴ Who knoweth, he may turn and grieve,—and leave behind him, a blessing, a meal-offering and a drink-offering, to the LORD your God?

¹⁷ Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, "Spare your people, LORD, and do not give your heritage to mockery, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?'"

²⁰ and your strength will be spent in vain, for your land will not yield its increase, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit.

³ The earth will be completely uninhabitable and totally plundered. the LORD has spoken this word. ⁴ The earth mourns and withers; the world languishes and withers; the high people of the earth languish:

¹¹ In the streets they cry out for wine. Joy turns to gloom and rejoicing is banished from the earth.

⁴ How long shall the land be parched, and the grass of every field wither? For the wickedness of those who dwell in it, the animals are consumed, and the birds; because they said, "He shall not see our latter end."

¹¹ »They made it a wasteland. It lies desolate before me. The whole land has become a desert, and no one cares.

² "Judah mourns, and her gates languish. The people mourn for the land, and the cry of Jerusalem goes up. ³ Their nobles send their young people for water. They go to the cisterns, but they find no water. They return with their vessels empty. They're disappointed and dismayed, and they cover their heads in shame. ⁴ The ground is cracked, because there has been no rain in the land. The farmers are disappointed, and they cover their heads in shame. ⁵ Even the doe in the field gives birth and then abandons her young because there is no grass. ⁶ Wild donkeys stand on the barren hills. They pant for air like jackals. Their eyesight fails because there is no vegetation."

³³ "'Joy and gladness are taken from the fruitful orchards and fields and from the land of Moab. I have stopped the flow of wine from the wine presses. No one walks on the grapes with shouts of joy. There are shouts, but they are not shouts of joy.

³ Therefore the land mourns, and all those living in it languish with the animals of the field, and the birds of the heaven, and even the fish of the sea are being swept away.

² Threshing floor and wine vat will not feed them, and new wine will fail her.

⁵ Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

¹¹ On your planting day you make them grow, and in the morning of your sowing you bring them into bloom, yet the harvest will flee in a day of sickness and incurable pain.

¹² "Who is the wise man that may understand this? Who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken? Let him declare it? Why is the land ruined, laid waste like a desert, so that no one passes through?"

³ Their nobles send their young people for water. They go to the cisterns, but they find no water. They return with their vessels empty. They're disappointed and dismayed, and they cover their heads in shame. ⁴ The ground is cracked, because there has been no rain in the land. The farmers are disappointed, and they cover their heads in shame.

¹⁶ Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of the Heavenly Armies, the Lord, says: "There will be dirges in all of the streets; and in all of the highways they will cry out in anguish. They will call the farmer to mourning and those who lament to grieve.

⁵ And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.

²³ Then they reached the valley of Eshcol, where they had cut a branch with a cluster of grapes and carried it on a pole between two men, also pomegranates and figs.

⁷ You have put gladness in my heart more than when their grain and their wine abound.

¹² The righteous will flourish like palm trees; they will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

³ ¶ As the apple tree among the trees of the wild, so is my beloved among the sons. I desired to sit under his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

¹³ Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates with excellent fruits, with henna and spikenard;

⁷ Your stature is like a palm tree, and your breasts are like clusters of fruit. ⁸ I said, "I will climb up into the palm tree. I will take hold of its fruit." Let your breasts be like clusters of the vine, the smell of your breath like apples, ⁹ and your mouth like the best wine, that goes down smoothly for my beloved, gliding through the lips and teeth.

³ You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy. They rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the plunder.

¹⁰ Joy and gladness are taken away from the orchards. No one sings or shouts in the vineyards! No one treads out wine at the presses, for I have put an end to the shouting.

³ A voice shall cry from Horonaim, 'With great wasting and destruction

¹ Do not rejoice, Israel, to jubilation like the nations; for you were unfaithful to your God. You love the wages of a prostitute at every grain threshing floor. ² Threshing floor and wine vat will not feed them, and new wine will fail her.

¹⁰ "The field is laid waste, the land mourns. The grain is destroyed, the new wine dried up, the oil fails.

¹⁷ Though the fig tree shall not blossom, and fruit is not on the vines; the work of the olive fails, and the fields make no food; the flock is cut off from the fold, and no herd is in the stalls, ¹⁸ yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in God my Savior.

¹⁹ Is the seed yet in the barn? Yea, the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not brought forth. From this day I will bless [you].

⁸ And you are to give the meal offering made of these things to the Lord, and let the priest take it to the altar. ⁹ The priest shall take from the meal offering its memorial, and shall burn it on the altar, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to the LORD. ¹⁰ And the remainder of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and to his sons—it is a most holy thing from the offerings made by fire for the LORD.

⁶ "‘Offer these in addition to the monthly burnt offering with its grain offering, and the daily burnt offerings with their proper grain offerings and wine offerings. It is a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the LORD.

¹⁶ David begged God on behalf of the youngster. He fasted, went inside, and spent the night lying on the ground.

²⁷ When Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

¹⁰ I'll weep and mourn for the mountains, and lament for the desert pastures, because they are desolate and no one passes through them. They don't hear the lowing of the cattle. Both the birds of the sky and the animals have fled. They're gone!

¹⁸ '"They will put on sackcloth and they will tremble all over. Their heads will be shaved, and they will all be disgraced.

⁸ Mourn like a virgin dressed in sackcloth for the husband of her youth! ⁹ The offering and libation are withheld from the house of the LORD. The priests mourn, the ministers of the LORD.

⁵ And the men of Ninive believed God and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least. ⁶ The news reached the king of Nineveh and he arose from his throne, took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. ⁷ And he cried out and said in Nineveh by the decree of the king and his great ones, saying, Do not let man or beast, herd or flock taste anything; do not let them feed, nor drink water. ⁸ but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth and cry mightily unto God; and let each one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.

¹ So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

¹³ Do you not know that those who work in the temple get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar?

⁶ who has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

⁴ Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships, and calamities;

²³ Are they servants of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself.) I am more so: in labors more abundantly, in prisons more abundantly, in stripes above measure, and in deaths often.

¹³ He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. ¹⁴ For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.

³⁶ For seven days you must present an offering made by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day it shall be a holy assembly for you, and you shall present an offering made by fire to the LORD; it is a celebration; you must not do any regular work.

¹⁰ All of you stand today in the presence of the LORD your God: your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel, ¹¹ along with your children, your wives, even the foreigner in your camp, including the woodchopper and the water drawer

³ And Jehoshaphat feared, and set his face to seek to the LORD, and proclaimed a fast over all Judah. ⁴ The people of Judah gathered to seek the LORD’s help. They came from every city in Judah.

¹³ All the people from Judah, their infants, wives, and children were standing in front of the LORD.

¹⁸ Day by day, from the first day till the last, he read from the book of the Law of God. They kept the feast for seven days: and on the eighth day there was a holy meeting, as it is ordered in the law.

² The seed of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers. ³ They stood up in their place and read from the book of the law of the LORD their God for a fourth part of the day, and for a fourth they were confessing and worshiping the LORD their God.

¹⁵ Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: ¹⁶ Gather the people. Sanctify the assembly. Assemble the elders. Gather the children, and those who suck the breasts. Let the bridegroom go forth from his room, and the bride out of her chamber.

⁸ but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth and cry mightily unto God; and let each one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.

¹³ the Lord laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming.

⁶ Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; it will come like destruction from Shaddai! ⁷ Therefore all hands will grow slack, and every human heart will melt, ⁸ and they will be dismayed. Pangs and labor pains will seize them; they will tremble like a woman giving birth. They will stare at one another, their faces flushing. ⁹ Look, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger; to make the land a desolation, and to destroy its sinners out of it.

² "Son of man, the Sovereign LORD says to the land of Israel: 'The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land. ³ '"The end is now upon you and I will unleash my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices. ⁴ '"I will not look on you with pity or spare you. I will repay you for your conduct and the detestable practices among you. THEN YOU WILL KNOW THAT I AM the LORD.' ⁵ "The Sovereign LORD says: 'Disaster! An unheard-of disaster is coming. ⁶ '"The end has come! The end has come! It has become active against you. It has come! ⁷ '"Doom has come upon you who dwell in the land. The time has come, the day is near. There is panic, not joy, upon the mountains. ⁸ '"I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices. ⁹ '"I will not look on you with pity or spare you (my eye will not feel sorry for you). I will repay you in accordance with your conduct and the detestable practices among you. Then you will know that it is I, the LORD, who strikes the blow. ¹⁰ '"The day is here! It has come! Doom has burst forth. The rod has budded, and arrogance has blossomed! ¹¹ '"Violence has grown into a weapon for punishing wickedness. None of the people will be left. None of that crowd, none of their wealth, and nothing of value will be left. ¹² The time has come; the day has arrived. Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn; for wrath is on all her multitude.

²² Son of man, what is this saying which you have about the land of Israel, The time is long and every vision comes to nothing? ²³ Therefore say to them, 'Thus says the Sovereign LORD: "I will put an end to this proverb, and they will not quote it as a proverb again in Israel." ' But say to them, 'The days are near, and also the word of every vision.' ²⁴ For there will be no more any false vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel. ²⁵ For I, the LORD, will speak, and the Word that I shall speak shall be done. It shall no more be delayed; for in your days, O rebellious house, I will say the Word and will do it, says the Sovereign LORD. ²⁶ And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ²⁷ Son of man, behold, the house of Israel says, The vision that he sees is for many days to come, and he prophesies of the times that are far off. ²⁸ Therefore say to them, 'Thus says the Sovereign LORD: "None of my words will be prolonged any longer that I speak as a word, and it will be fulfilled!" '" declares the Sovereign LORD.

¹ Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming —it is indeed near. ² A day of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick darkness, like the dawn spreads on the mountains, a great and strong army! There has been nothing like it from old, and after it nothing will be again for generations to come.

¹¹ The LORD thunders his voice before his army; for his forces are very great; for he is strong who obeys his command; for the day of the LORD is great and very awesome, and who can endure it?

³¹ The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.

¹⁶ Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of the Heavenly Armies, the Lord, says: "There will be dirges in all of the streets; and in all of the highways they will cry out in anguish. Why do you long for the day of the LORD? It is darkness, and not light.

¹⁴ The great day of the LORD draws near; it is near and coming very swiftly. The sound of the day of the LORD is bitterness; there, a warrior cries out! ¹⁵ That day is a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, ¹⁶ a day of trumpet and a cry against the fortified cities, and against the high corners. ¹⁷ I will bring distress on men, that they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD, and their blood will be poured out like dust, and their flesh like dung. ¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.

⁴¹ As Jesus approached Jerusalem and saw the city, He wept over it ⁴² and said, “If only you had known on this day what would bring you peace! But now it is hidden from your eyes. ⁴³ For the days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, ⁴⁴ They will level you to the ground—you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.”

⁹ Do not complain about each other, brothers, or you will be condemned. Look! The Judge is standing at the door!

¹⁷ for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"

⁶ and bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the wave offering of your hand, your vows, your freewill offerings and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock. ⁷ and there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye and your households shall rejoice in every work of your hands in which the LORD thy God has blessed thee.

¹¹ then to the place which the LORD your God shall choose, to cause His name to dwell there, you must bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the wave offering of your hand and all your chosen vows which you vow to the LORD. ¹² And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God; you, your sons, your daughters, your menservants, your female servants, and the Levite that is within your gates (because he has no part nor inheritance with you).

¹⁰ "Then celebrate the Festival of Weeks to the LORD your God. Bring a freewill offering in proportion to the blessings the LORD your God has given you. ¹¹ And thou shall rejoice before LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, and the Levite who is within thy gates, and the sojourner, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are in th ¹² "Remember that you were slaves in Egypt. Carefully obey these laws. ¹³ "Celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days after you harvest from your threshing floor and your wine press. ¹⁴ You shall rejoice in your feast, you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow who are within your gates. ¹⁵ For seven days you shall celebrate before the LORD your God at the place where the LORD will choose; for the LORD your God will bless you in all your harvest and in everything you do, and your joy will be complete.

⁴ Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy and I will praise you upon the harp, O God, my God.

³ Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

⁷ Then the relative will cry out: "I am not a healer! I do not have any food or a coat in my home. Do not make me a leader of the people."

⁸ the LORD has sworn by his right hand, and by his mighty arm, "Surely I will never again give your grain as food to your enemies, and surely foreigners shall not drink your new wine at which you have labored." ⁹ But those who have garnered it will eat it and praise the LORD. And those who have gathered it will drink it in the courts of my sanctuary.

⁵ Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth. ⁶ For a nation has come up on my land, strong, and without number. His teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the fangs of a lioness. ⁷ He has laid my vine waste, and stripped my fig tree. He has stripped its bark, and thrown it away. Its branches are made white.

⁶ "I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in every town; yet you haven't returned to me," says the LORD. ⁷ "I withheld rain from you three months before the harvest. I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One received rain. The other did not receive rain and it dried up.

¹⁶ Abraham listened to Ephron. Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the hearing of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the current merchants’ standard.

¹⁰ For you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and have not remembered the rock of your strength. ⁵ Ahab had instructed Obadiah, "Go throughout the land to all of the water springs and to all of the valleys. Maybe we'll find some grass to keep the horses and mules alive. Also, maybe we won't have to kill some of our cattle."

²⁰ Also, the beasts of the field long for you, because the courses of water are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the desert.

²² We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time.

¹⁵ Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me."

¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.

³ A fire devoureth before them, and behind them a flame blazeth; the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing escapeth them.

⁴ Thus the Sovereign LORD showed me and behold, the Sovereign LORD called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land.

⁷ But as for me, I will look to the LORD. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.

¹ Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and never despair.

⁷ And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. ⁷ And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

⁷ But after a while, the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

⁴¹ "Who provides food for the raven when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food?

²¹ The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their food from God.

¹⁵ The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due time.

⁹ He provides food for the livestock, and for the young ravens when they call.
