¹ To this Job replied, ² I have heard many things like these; Miserable comforters are you all. ³ Will windy words like yours never end? What is upsetting you that you keep on arguing? ⁴ I also could speak as you do; if your soul were in my soul's place. I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you. ⁵ [But] I would encourage you with my mouth, and the solace of my lips should assuage [your pain]. ⁶ If I speak, my pain is not relieved; and if I cease, how much will leave me? ⁷ "Surely now he has worn me out; you have devastated all my company. ⁸ "You have shriveled me up. It has become a witness. And my leanness rises up against me. It testifies to my face. ⁹ When in his wrath he threw me down and gnashed his teeth at me; the darts of his executioners fell upon me. ¹⁰ People gaped at me with mouths wide open; they slap me in their scorn and gather together against me. ¹¹ God has delivered me over to the ungodly, throwing me into the control of the wicked. ¹² »I was at ease, but he shattered me. He has grabbed me by the neck and has shaken me to pieces. He has also set me up as his target. ¹³ "His arrows surround me. Without mercy he splits my kidneys open. He pours out my gall on the ground. ¹⁴ He breached me breach upon breach; he rushes at me like a warrior. ¹⁵ I have sewed sackcloth on my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust. ¹⁶ My face is red with weeping. Deep darkness is on my eyelids, ¹⁷ Though my hands have done no violent acts, and my prayer is clean. ¹⁸ "Earth, do not cover my blood. Let my cry have no place to rest. ¹⁹ "Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my advocate is on high. ²⁰ My scorners are my friends; my eye pours out tears to God. ²¹ O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleads for his friend! ²² "For when a few years are past, I shall go the way of no return.

⁶ Is ever tasteless food eaten without salt? or is there any flavor in the white of an egg?

²⁵ How forceful are right words! but what does your arguing prove?

² "Are all these words to go unanswered? Is this talker to be vindicated? ³ "Should your idle talk reduce men to silence? Should no one rebuke you when you mock?

⁴ For, in truth, ye, do besmear with falsehood, Worthless physicians, all of you! ⁵ "If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom.

² "How long will you torment me, and crush me with words? ³ These ten times, have ye reviled me, Shameless ye wrong me.

² How have you helped the powerless, or saved the arm with no strength? ³ How you have counseled one without wisdom, And the reality of things you have abundantly made known!"

²⁶ For they persecute those whom you have struck, and they brag about the pain of those you have wounded.

¹⁶ The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel;

¹⁹ My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,

²⁶ "Do you mean to correct what I say? Do you treat the words of a despairing man as wind?

² "How long will you say such things? Your words are a blustering wind.

² "Should a wise man answer with empty notions or be filled with the hot east wind?

³ "I hear a rebuke that dishonors me. Therefore my understanding inspires me to reply.

³ His anger was also kindled against his three friends because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job. ⁴ Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job, because they were older than he. ⁵ But when he saw that the three were not able to answer, he was exceedingly angry. ⁶ Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite answered: "I am young in years, and you are aged; therefore I was timid and afraid to declare my opinion to you.

⁴⁶ No one could answer him at all, and from that day on no one dared to ask him another question.

¹¹ They must be silenced, for such men upset whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach, for the sake of dishonest gain.

⁸ and soundness of speech that can’t be condemned, that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us.

²¹ This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him: "The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

² "If only my anguish could be weighed and all my misery be placed on the scales! ³ "It would surely outweigh the sand of the seas, no wonder my words have been impetuous. ⁴ "The Almighty's arrows are in me. My spirit drinks in their poison. God's terrors set themselves against me. ⁵ "Does a wild donkey bray when it has grass, or an ox bellow when it has fodder?

¹⁴ "A despairing man should have the devotion of his friends, even though he forsakes his reverence for the Almighty.

¹⁶ therefore Job opens his mouth in empty talk— without knowledge he multiplies words."

⁷ All who see me deride me; they bust out the lip, they shake the head,

¹⁴ You made our defeat a proverb among the nations so that people shake their heads at us.

²⁵ I am become also a taunt unto them; when they see me, they shake their head.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking; but he who holds back his lips is wise.

¹⁴ A fool moreover multiplies words. No man knows what has been, nor what will be. Who shall tell him what will come after him?

¹⁶ They make their land into a desolate place, an object of lasting scorn. All who pass by will be appalled and will shake their heads.

¹⁵ All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem: 'Is this the city that men called the perfection of beauty, the joy of the whole earth?'

¹⁵ This is the city of rejoicing that lived securely; the one saying in her heart, "I am, and there is none besides me." How she has become a desolation, a lair for wild animals! Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his fist.

¹² In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the prophets.

³⁹ And those who passed by hurled insults at him, wagging their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”

¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.

²⁶ If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

³ Look, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened weak hands. ⁴ Your words have supported him who was falling, you have strengthened the feeble knees.

²⁵ "I chose their way, and sat as chief. I lived like a king among his troops, like one who comforts mourners.

¹⁴ Wait for the LORD; be strong and let thy heart take courage: yea, wait for the LORD.

⁹ Perfume and incense will gladden a heart, and the pleasantness of one's friend is ⌊personal advice⌋.

¹⁷ As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

³ Strengthen the weak hands, and make the feeble knees firm. ⁴ Tell those who have a fearful heart, "Be strong. Do not be afraid. Look, your God will come with vengeance, God's retribution. He will come and save you.

¹ Brothers, if someone is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him with a spirit of gentleness. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

¹ "I loathe my very life. I will therefore give free rein to my complaint and speak out in my bitterness.

¹ To the director: To Jeduthun. A psalm of Asaph.. I cry out to God! I cry out to God and he hears me. ² In the day of my trouble, I sought the Lord: my hand was stretched out in the night, and slacked not; my soul refused to be comforted. ³ I remember God and I murmur, I muse, and my spirit swooneth. ¹⁵ Ever since I was young, I have been suffering and near death. I have endured your terrors, and now I am in despair. ¹⁶ Your burning anger has swept over me. Your terrors have destroyed me. ¹⁷ They came around me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me. ¹⁸ You have taken my loved ones and friends far away from me. Darkness is my only friend!

¹⁵ And the Sabeans rushed in, and took all away, and slew the servants with the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell thee. ¹⁶ While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” ¹⁷ While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you." ¹⁸ While he was still speaking, there also came another and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house. ¹⁹ when a strong wind came straight out of the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people, and they died. I alone escaped to tell you!"

¹⁷ There the wicked cease from turmoil, and there the weary are at rest;

³ So am I allotted months of futility for me, And nights of misery have they assigned to me.

¹⁶ I loathe my life; I would not live alway: Let me alone; for my days are vanity.

⁵ when the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were around me, ⁶ When I bathed my steps in cream, and the rock poured out near me streamlets of oil! ⁷ "When I went out to the gate of the city, when I took my seat in the square, ⁸ The young men saw me, and went away, and the old men got up from their seats; ⁹ Nobles would resfrain from speaking, covering their mouths with their hands. ¹⁰ The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth. ¹¹ For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it commended me: ¹² For I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the perishing came on me; and I made the widow's heart to sing. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my justice was as a robe and a turban. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. ¹⁶ "I was a father to the needy! My bow is renewed in my hand.' ²¹ "Men listened to me, waited, and kept silence for my counsel. ²² After I had spoken, they spake not again, and, upon them, used my speech to drop; ²³ They waited for me as for the rain. Their mouths drank as with the spring rain. ²⁴ Were I to laugh at them, they would not believe it; and the light of my face has not failed. ²⁵ "I chose their way, and sat as chief. I lived like a king among his troops, like one who comforts mourners.

⁶ I am worn out from groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. ⁷ My eyes grow weak with sorrow. I am weak because of all my foes.

¹¹ My son, do not reject the LORD's discipline, and do not despise his correction, ¹² because the LORD corrects the person he loves, just as a father corrects the son he delights in.

⁴ The Sovereign LORD has given Me the tongue of the learned, to know to help the weary with a word. He wakens morning by morning, He wakens the ear to hear as the learned.

¹³ Therefore will I begin to smite you; I will destroy you in your sins.

²¹ I went away full, but the LORD brought me back empty-handed! Why call me Naomi when the LORD has testified against me and Shaddai has brought calamity upon me?"

¹⁷ "'You bring new witnesses against me and increase your anger toward me. Your forces come against me wave upon wave.

²⁰ I'm a pile of skin and bones; I have barely escaped by the skin of my teeth."

¹⁵ And he gave them their request, but sent a wasting disease into their souls.

²⁴ My knees are weak through fasting, my body is thin and lacks fat.

¹⁶ Therefore the Lord, the LORD of Armies, will send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory a burning will be kindled like the burning of fire.

¹⁶ From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs: 'Glory to the righteous.' But I say: I waste away, I waste away, woe is me! The treacherous deal treacherously; yea, the treacherous deal very treacherously.

²⁷ and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.

¹⁶ "'If I hold my head high, you stalk me like a lion and again display your awesome power against me. ¹⁷ "'You bring new witnesses against me and increase your anger toward me. Your forces come against me wave upon wave.

²⁴ Why do you hide your face, and consider me your enemy?

²⁷ "You fasten my feet in shackles. You keep close watch on all my paths by putting marks on the soles of my feet.

⁴ "You tear yourself to pieces in your anger! Is the earth to be abandoned for your sake? Or must the rocks be moved from their place?

¹¹ His anger burns against me; he regards me as his adversary.

¹⁶ Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed their teeth at me.

¹² The wicked plotteth against the righteous, and gnasheth his teeth against him.

²² "Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you into pieces, and there be none to deliver.

¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you; they hiss and gnash the teeth; they say, We have swallowed her up; certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it!

¹⁰ He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in hiding.

¹⁴ For, I, will be as a lion unto Ephraim, and as a young lion to the house of Judah,—I, I, will tear in pieces, and depart, I will carry off, and none be able to rescue.

¹ "Come, and let us return to the LORD; for he has torn us to pieces, and he will heal us; he has injured us, and he will bind up our wounds.

⁸ Do not rejoice against me, O my enemy; for if I have fallen, I shall arise; if I sit in darkness, the LORD is my light.

⁵⁴ When they heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him.

²⁴ Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah came near and slapped Micaiah on the cheek and said, "When did the Spirit of the LORD pass from me to speak with you?"

²³ Then Zedekiah the son of Kenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, "Which way did the Spirit of the LORD come from me to speak to you?"

¹³ they gape on me with their mouths as a tearing and a roaring lion.

¹⁶ For dogs have surrounded me; a gang of evil-doers has encircled me. They pierced my hands and my feet. ¹⁷ I can count all my bones. People stare and gloat over me.

¹⁵ Yet, when I stumbled, they rejoiced and gathered together. They gathered together against me. Unknown attackers tore me apart without stopping.

²¹ They open their mouths against me and say: Aha! Aha! Our own eyes have seen it.

²¹ They gather together against the righteous, condemning the innocent to death.

⁶ I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spittle.

³⁰ Let him give his cheek to him who strikes him; let him be filled with insults.

¹ Now marshal yourselves as troops. He has laid siege to us. They will strike the judge of Israel on the cheek with a rod.

⁶⁷ Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Some slapped him,

³⁵ The people stood watching, and the rulers sneered at Him, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.” ³⁶ The soldiers mocked him and offered him vinegar,

²² When he said this, one of the attendants who stood near struck him and said, "Is that the way you answer the high priest?"

²⁷ For in truth both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed,

² At this, the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth.

²⁰ In fact, you even put up with anyone who enslaves you or exploits you or takes advantage of you or exalts himself or strikes you in the face.

¹⁸ You have explained how you treated me well, in that the LORD delivered me into your hand but you didn't kill me.

⁷ So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head.

¹⁴ But the wicked one travails with evil, he conceives malice and gives birth to lies.

¹² Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen up against me, such as breathe out violence.

⁸ You have not handed me over to the hand of the enemy. You have set my feet in a large place.

⁴ He has made my flesh and my skin old. He has broken my bones.

⁴ who have risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them.

²³ The archers have fiercely attacked him, and shot at him, and hated him:

²⁰ the LORD will never be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger of the LORD and / His jealousy will burn against that man. Every curse which is written in this book will rest on him. the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven.

⁴ "The Almighty's arrows are in me. My spirit drinks in their poison. God's terrors set themselves against me.

¹⁰ "Then I would still have this consolation, my joy in unrelenting pain, that I had not denied the words of the Holy One.

²⁷ "I will see him with my own eyes, not with someone else's. My heart fails inside me!

²⁵ "He pulls it out of his back, the gleaming point out of his liver. Terrors will come over him.

¹² If a man doesn't relent, he will sharpen his sword; he has bent and strung his bow. ¹³ He has also prepared for himself deadly weapons. He makes ready his flaming arrows.

⁸ He attacked them viciously and slaughtered many of them, then he went and lived in the cave in the rock of Etam.

⁷ Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me.

³ Surely he turns his hand against me again and again all day long. ⁴ He has made my flesh and my skin old. He has broken my bones. ⁵ He has besieged and engulfed me with bitterness and hardship.

⁷ They run like mighty men, they climb the wall like warriors. They each march in his line, and they don't swerve off course.

³⁴ Then Jacob rent his cloaths and put on sackcloth on his loins and mourned for his son many days.

¹⁰ Those who contend with the LORD will be broken to pieces. He will thunder against them in heaven. the LORD will judge the ends of the earth and he will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed.

²⁷ When Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

¹⁹ He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.

⁵ then let the enemy pursue and overtake me, trample my life to the ground, and lay me in the dust.

⁵ Do not lift up your horn on high; do not speak with a stiff neck.

¹⁰ I will cut off all the horns of the wicked, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.

¹² And the Lord, the LORD Almighty, called on that day for weeping and mourning, and for baldness and girding with sackcloth.

⁷ My eyes have grown weak from grief; and my whole body is as thin as a shadow.

⁹ Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in distress. My eye wastes away with grief, [yea], my soul and my body.

³ When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.

³ I am weary with my crying. My throat is dry. My eyes fail looking for my God.

³ For my days vanish like smoke, And my bones burn hot like glowing embers." ⁴ My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread. ⁵ Because of the sound of my groaning my bones cling to my skin.

⁹ I have eaten ashes as food and mixed my drink with tears

³ The cords of death compassed me, and the pains of Sheol gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow

¹⁴ There were many who were appalled at him and his appearance was disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness.

¹⁶ For these things, I am weeping, my eyes flow with tears; because a comforter is far from me, one to restore my life. My sons are desolate because the enemy has prevailed.

¹ And when out of the belly of the great fish, Jonas prayed to the Lord his God, ² and said, "I called from my distress to the LORD, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried for help— you heard my voice. ³ For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current surrounded me; all Your breakers and Your waves passed over me. ⁴ I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.' ⁵ The waters encompassed me up to my neck; the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. ⁶ (2:7) To the bottoms of the mountains did I go down; the earth closed her bars about me for ever: when thou broughtest up my life from the pit, O Lord my God! ⁷ When my life was ebbing away from me, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, to your holy temple. ⁸ Those who cling to vain idols leave behind the gracious love that could have been theirs. ⁹ But as for me, with a voice of thanksgiving I will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance is the LORD's!" ¹⁰ And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry [land].

³⁴ And He said to them: “My soul is overwhelmed with grief, to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch.”

⁵ "But if you will look to God and plead with the Almighty, ⁶ if you are pure and upright, even now he will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your rightful place.

¹⁴ if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,

²⁰ "All his days the wicked man suffers torment and the ruthless through all the years stored up for him.

³⁴ »The company of the godless will be barren. And fire will consume the tents of those who love bribes.

²⁷ "Look, I know your thoughts, the devices with which you would wrong me. ²⁸ You ask, 'Where is the noble person's house?' and 'Where are the tents where the wicked live?'

⁵ "Is not your wickedness great? There is no end to your iniquities. ⁶ For thou hast taken a pledge of thy brother for nought, and stripped off the clothing of the naked. ⁷ You've neglected to give water to the weary, and you've withhold food from the hungry. ⁸ "The powerful possess the land, and the favored live in it. ⁹ "You have sent widows away empty-handed. You crush the arms of the orphans.

⁶ "I will maintain my righteousness and never let go of it! My conscience will not reproach me as long as I live. ⁷ "May my enemies be like the wicked, my adversaries like the unjust!

¹ "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman. ² "What is man's lot from God above, his heritage from the Almighty on high? ³ "Is it not ruin for the wicked, disaster for those who do wrong? ⁴ "Does he not see my ways and count my every step? ⁵ "If I have walked in falsehood or my foot has hurried after deceit ⁶ "let God weigh me on honest scales and he will know that I am blameless. ⁷ "If my steps have turned from the path, if my heart has been led by my eyes, or if my hands have been defiled, ⁸ then may others eat what I have sown, and may my crops be uprooted. ⁹ "If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or if I have lurked at my neighbor's door, ¹⁰ then may my wife grind another man's grain, and may other men sleep with her. ¹¹ "For that would have been shameful (a crime), a sin to be judged. ¹² for it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase. ¹³ If I have slighted the cause of my man servant or maid servant when they had a controversy with me, ¹⁴ what then will I do when God rises up? When he visits, what will I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he who made me in the womb make him? Did not the same one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ if I have eaten my morsel alone, and have not shared it with the orphan; ¹⁸ for from my youth I reared the orphan like a father, and from my mother's womb I guided the widow. ¹⁹ If I have seen any perishing for want of clothing, or any needy without covering; ²⁰ If his heart has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; ²¹ If I have raised a hand against the fatherless, because I had around me greater support: ²² Then let my arm fall from my shoulder-blade, and my arm be broken from the bone. ²³ For I feared destruction from God, against whose highness I could have no power. ²⁴ "If I've put my confidence in gold, if I've said to gold, 'You're my security,' ²⁵ If I have rejoiced over my great riches, and because my hand had gotten much. ²⁶ if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor, ²⁷ and I was secretly enticed, and my hand threw them a kiss, ²⁸ this also would be an iniquity for the judges; for I would have denied the God above. ²⁹ "If I have rejoiced at the ruin of the one who hated me or have exulted when evil overtook him— ³⁰ For I have not given my mouth to sin, by wishing a curse to his soul. ³¹ If the men of my tent did not say, Who has not had full measure of his meat? ³² the stranger did not sleep in the street, for I opened my doors to the traveler; ³³ if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart, ³⁴ Have I feared large crowds? Have my family's contempt ever terrified me so that I remained silent and wouldn't go outside." ³⁵ Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold my mark. Let the Almighty answer me, and my Accuser write an indictment. ³⁶ "Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; I would bind it on me like a crown. ³⁷ "I would give him an account of all my steps. Like a prince I would approach him. ³⁸ If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together; ³⁹ If I have eaten its yield without payment, and caused the death of its owners; ⁴⁰ let thorns come forth instead of wheat, and weeds instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

³ O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, ⁴ if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me, or oppressed my enemy without cause, ⁵ then let the enemy pursue and overtake me, trample my life to the ground, and lay me in the dust.

¹⁷ All this has befallen us, though we have not forgotten you, and we have not been false to your covenant. ¹⁸ Our hearts have not turned away; our steps have not swerved from your path. ¹⁹ Nevertheless, you crushed us in the lair of jackals, and covered us in deep darkness. ²⁰ If we have forgotten the name of our God, or spread out our hands to a strange god, ²¹ would not God discover this, for he knows the secrets of the heart?

¹⁸ If I cherished sin in my heart, the Lord wouldn’t have listened. ¹⁹ But God hath heard me; and considered the voice of my prayer.

⁸ The LORD abhorreth the sacrifice of the ungodly; but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable to him.

⁶ Their webs cannot become clothing, and they cannot cover themselves with their works. Their works are works of iniquity, and deeds of violence are in their hands.

⁸ but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth and cry mightily unto God; and let each one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.

⁸ Therefore, I want men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.

¹¹ "Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.

⁵ and neither cover their perversity nor wipe away their sin from your face: for they vex you in front of the builders.

⁹ "Does God listen to his cry when distress comes upon him?

¹⁵ "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you. Even though you offer many prayers, I will not listen because your hands are full of blood.

²¹ Behold! the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose (reveal) the bloodshed upon her. She will conceal her slain no longer.

⁹ Then you will call, and the LORD will answer. You will cry for help, and he will say, 'Here I am.' “If you take away from among you the yoke, finger pointing, and speaking wickedly; ¹⁰ and if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will be like midday.

²⁹ O land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD.

⁷ ""Her blood is in her midst. She placed it on the bare rock. She did not pour it on the ground to cover it with dust.

³ And when you do ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may squander it on your pleasures. ⁴ You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God.

⁵⁰ If you mistreat my daughters, and if you take wives besides my daughters, when there is no man with us, see—God is a witness between me and you."

⁵ He said to them, "The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand." They said, "He is witness."

² "Rulership and awe belong to God. He establishes order in the heights of heaven.

⁵ Who is like the LORD our God, who is enthroned on high,

⁹ God, whom I serve with my spirit in preaching the gospel of His Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you

¹ I speak the truth in Christ. I am not lying. My conscience testifies for me in the Holy Spirit

²³ I call God as my witness that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth.

³¹ The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who should be praised forever, knows that I am not lying.

⁵ For, as you know, we never used flattery nor a pretext for greed God is witness

¹⁰ You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous, and blameless our conduct was among you who believed.

⁴ "I have become a laughingstock to my friends! I called upon God and he answered. Yet I am a mere laughingstock, though righteous and blameless! ⁵ "Men at ease have contempt for misfortune as the fate of those whose feet are slipping.

⁴ I also could speak as you do; if your soul were in my soul's place. I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you.

² »Mockers surrounded me. My eye dwells on their provocation.

⁴ In return for my love they accuse me, though I am in prayer.

² I pour out my complaint before him. I tell him my troubles.

⁴ He struggled with the angel and won. Jacob cried and pleaded with him. Jacob found him at Bethel, and he talked with him there. ⁵ even the LORD, the God of hosts; The LORD is his name of renown.

¹¹ But they were filled with rage, and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus. ¹² In those days, Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and He spent the night in prayer to God.

⁷ During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.

³⁴ »Let God remove his rod from me. Do not let dread of him terrify me. ³⁵ [Then] I will speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.

³ "But I want to speak to the Almighty and to argue my case with God.

²² "Then summon me and I will answer, or let me speak, and you reply.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! I would come even unto his dwelling-place; ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ "I would learn what he would answer and perceive what he would say to me. ⁶ Would he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There an upright man might put his cause before him; and I would be free for ever from my judge.

³⁵ Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold my mark. Let the Almighty answer me, and my Accuser write an indictment.

¹ the LORD SPEAKS TO JOB: ² Shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? Let him that disputes with God answer this. ³ Then Job answered the LORD, ⁴ Behold, I am slight; how can I reply to You? I place my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ I spoke once, but I cannot answer twice. I will proceed no further."

¹⁰ That which is hath already been named; and what man is, is known, and that he cannot contend with him that is mightier than he.

⁹ Woe to him who fights with the One who formed him! A potsherd among the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to its former, What are you making? Or does your work say, He has no hands?

²⁰ But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?”

⁹ A cloud vanishes, and it goes away, so he who goes down to Sheol will not come up. ¹⁰ He shall turn back no more to his house, and his place shall know him no more.

⁵ "Man's days are determined. You have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed.

¹⁰ "On the other hand man dies and is laid low. He breathes his last and is no more!

¹⁴ "If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait for my change (release) to come.

⁵ They are afraid of heights, and terrors are on the road. The almond tree blossoms, and the grasshopper draws itself along, and desire fails because man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about in the streets.
