¹ Bel bows down and Nebo stoops low. Their idols are borne by beasts of burden. The images that are carried about are burdensome. They are a burden for the weary. ² They stoop and bow down together. They are unable to rescue the burden and they go off into captivity. ³ "Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel. I have upheld you since you were conceived. I have carried you since your birth. ⁴ Even to your old age I am the same, and to your grey hairs I will carry you: I have made you, and I will bear: I will carry and will save. ⁵ "To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared? ⁶ "Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales. They hire a goldsmith to make it into a god. They bow down and worship it. ⁷ "They lift it to their shoulders and carry it. They set it up in its place and there it stands. From that spot it cannot move. Though one cries out to it, it does not answer. It cannot save him from his troubles! ⁸ "Remember this! Keep it in mind and take it to heart, you rebels. ⁹ "Remember the former things, the things of long ago. I am God, and there is no other. I am God, and there is none like me. ¹⁰ "I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.' ¹¹ I summon a bird of prey from the east. I summon a man to fulfill my purpose from a far off land. What I have said I will bring about. What I have determined (purposed) I will do. ¹² "Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are far from righteousness. ¹³ "I bring near my righteousness. It is not far away. My salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel."

¹² For on that night I will go through the land of Egypt, sending death on every first male child, of man and of beast, and judging all the gods of Egypt: I am the Lord.

³ When the people of Ashdod arose early the next day, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. They took Dagon and set him back in his place.

²⁰ For on that day men will cast to the bats their abominations both of silver and gold, which they made to worship vanities;

⁹ "Look! Here come chariots and horsemen in pairs. Then he said: 'Babylon has fallen! She has fallen! All the idols they worship lie shattered on the ground.'"

⁶ Each helps the other and says to his brother: "Be strong!" ⁷ The craftsman encourages the goldsmith. He who smooths with the hammer spurs on him who strikes the anvil. He says of the welding: It is good. He nails down the idol so it will not topple.

⁵ "They are like scarecrows in cucumber fields. They cannot speak. They must be carried, for they cannot walk! Do not fear them! For they can do no harm and they can do no good."

¹ Against Moab thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is plundered: Kiriathaim is put to shame and taken: the stronghold is put to shame and dismayed. ² The pride of Moab is no more. In Heshbon they plotted evil against her: 'Come and let's eliminate her as a nation.' Madmen will also be silenced, and the sword will pursue you. ³ A voice shall cry from Horonaim, 'With great wasting and destruction ⁴ Moab will be destroyed; her little ones will cry out. ⁵ Indeed, at the ascent of Luhith people will go up with bitter weeping. At the descent of Horonaim the anguished cries over the destruction will be heard. ⁶ Flee, save your lives, and be like the bush in the wilderness. ⁷ But, because you trust in your deeds and your riches, you will also be captured. Chemosh will go out into exile, along with his priests and officials. ⁸ A destroyer will come to every town and no town will escape. The valley will be ruined and the plateau destroyed." This is what the LORD has said! ⁹ Put salt on Moab for she will surely fall. Her towns will become desolate places, without any inhabitants in them. ¹⁰ Cursed is he who does the work of the LORD negligently; and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood. ¹¹ Moab has been at ease from his youth. He has been undisturbed like wine on its dregs and not poured from vessel to vessel. He has not gone into exile. Therefore, his flavor has remained, and his aroma has not changed. ¹² Therefore, behold, the days come, says the LORD, that I will send to him those who pour off and they will pour him off. And they will empty his vessels and smash their jugs. ¹³ And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of their confidence in Bethel. ¹⁴ How can you say, 'we are warriors, and men of might for the battle.' ¹⁵ Moab is plundered and has come up out of her cities. And his chosen young men have gone down to the slaughter, says the King whose name is the LORD Almighty. ¹⁶ The fate of Moab is near, and trouble is coming on him very quickly. ¹⁷ Mourn for him, all who live around him, and all who know his name. Say, 'Oh how the mighty rod is broken, the glorious staff. ¹⁸ Come down from glory and sit on the parched ground, O inhabitant, daughter of Dibon, for the destroyer of Moab has come up against you, he has destroyed your fortifications. ¹⁹ Stand by the road and watch, O inhabitant of Aroer. Ask the man who is fleeing and the woman who is escaping, say, 'What has happened?' ²⁰ Moab was disgraced, for he is broken. Shriek and cry out! Announce in Arnon! that Moab is destroyed ²¹ Judgment has come to the plateau: to Holon and Jahzah, and against Mephaath, ²² Dibon, Nebo, and Beth-diblathaim, ²³ on Kiriathaim, on Beth Gamul, on Beth Meon, ²⁴ and on Karioth, and on Bosor, and on all the cities of Moab far and near. ²⁵ The horn of Moab is cut off and his arm is broken," declares the LORD.

² "Declare and proclaim among the nations. Lift up a banner and proclaim. Don't conceal anything. Say, 'Babylon will be captured. Bel will be disgraced, and Marduk will be destroyed. Her idols will be disgraced, and her filthy images will be destroyed.'

⁴⁴ I'll punish Bel in Babylon, and I'll make what he has swallowed come out of his mouth. The nations will no longer stream to him. Even the wall of Babylon will fall.

⁴⁷ Therefore, look, days are coming when I'll punish the idols of Babylon. Her entire land will be put to shame, and all her slain will fall in her midst.

⁵² "Therefore, look, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I'll punish her idols, and throughout her land the wounded will groan.

¹⁷ The five men who had gone to spy out the land went in there and took the engraved image, the ephod, the household gods and the molten image; and the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred armed men. ¹⁸ When these men went into Micah's house and fetched the engraved image, the ephod, the household gods and the molten image, the priest said to them, What are you doing?

²⁴ He said, “You have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and have gone away! What more do I have? How can you ask me, 'What ails you?'”

¹² "'Did the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my forefathers deliver them? And what about the gods of Gozan, Haran, Rezeph and the people of Eden who were in Tel Assar?

¹⁹ "They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them. But they were not gods! They were only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.

¹⁷ And the rest of it he makes into a god, his graven image; he falls down to it and worships, and prays to it, and says, Deliver me! for you are my god.

²⁰ »Come here, you refugees from the nations. Ignorant people carry wooden idols and pray to gods that cannot save anyone.

¹² He will set fire to the temples of the gods of Egypt. He will burn their idols and take them captive. He will wrap himself with the land of Egypt like a shepherd wraps himself with a garment, and then he will leave from there in peace. ¹³ He will shatter the pillars of Heliopolis in the land of Egypt and will burn the temples of the gods of Egypt with fire."'"

⁷ But, because you trust in your deeds and your riches, you will also be captured. Chemosh will go out into exile, along with his priests and officials.

⁵ The inhabitants of Samaria tremble for the calf of Beth-aven. Indeed, his people will mourn for it, and his idolatrous priests will wail over it— over its glory because it has departed from it. ⁶ It will also be brought to Assyria, as tribute to the great king. Ephraim will obtain disgrace and Israel will be ashamed from his advice.

⁴ 'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt and how I bore you on eagles' wings and I brought you to me.

³¹ and in the wilderness where you saw how the LORD your Elohim carried you, just as a man carries his son, in all the way you went until you came to this place.

¹¹ "Like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, spreads its wings to catch them, and carries them on its wings, ¹² "the LORD alone led his people. No foreign god was with them.

⁹ But you brought me out of the womb. You made me trust while at my mother's breasts. ¹⁰ On you I was cast from the womb. From my mother's belly you have been my God.

⁶ I have relied on you from the womb. You are he who took me out of my mother's womb. I will always praise you.

⁸ Hear, O my people, and I will admonish you; O Israel, if you would but listen to me. ⁹ There shall be no strange god among you, and you shall not bow down to a foreign god. ¹⁰ I am the LORD your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it. ¹¹ But my people would not listen to my voice; and Israel would none of me. ¹² "Therefore I gave them over to their stubborn hearts. They walked in their own counsel. ¹³ O that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!

⁹ Unless the LORD of hosts had left us a few survivors, we would have been as Sodom, and we would have been like Gomorrah.

²² For though your people, Israel, are like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.

¹¹ It will happen in that day that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

⁴ "'Perhaps the LORD your God will hear the words of Rabshakeh. His master the king of Assyria has sent him to reproach the living God! He will rebuke the words the LORD your God has heard. Therefore, offer a prayer for the remnant that survives.'"

¹ But now hear, Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen. ² "'This is what the LORD says, the one who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: 'Do not be afraid, O Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

²¹ Remember these things, O Jacob and Israel, for you are my servant. I have formed you. You are my servant, O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.

¹² "Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are far from righteousness.

¹ Hear this, house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel and came out from the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD, and invoke the God of Israel, but not in truth and not in righteousness.

¹⁷ So says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go. ¹⁸ Oh that you had paid attention to My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

¹ Hearken, ye Coastlands, unto me, And give ear ye peoples afar off,—the LORD, called me, from my birth, From my nativity, made he mention of my name; ² And He made My mouth like a sharp sword; He hid Me in the shadow of His hand, and made Me a polished arrow; He hid me in His quiver;

¹ "Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD. Look to the rock from which you were hewn and to the quarry from which you were dug out.

⁷ "Hear me, you who know what is right, you people who have my law in your hearts. Do not fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and in his pity he redeemed them. He bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

⁶ " 'And I passed by you, and I saw you kicking about in your blood, and I said to you in your blood, "Live! ⁷ "'I made you numerous like plants of the field. You grew up, became tall and reached the age for fine ornaments. Your breasts were formed and your hair had grown. Yet you were naked and bare."' ⁸ And I passed by you, and I looked on you, and, behold, your time was the time of love. And I spread My skirt over you and covered your nakedness. And I swore to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign LORD. And you became Mine. ⁹ And I bathed you in water, and washed your blood from you, and anointed you with oil. ¹⁰ I clothed you also with embroidered work, and put sealskin sandals on you. I dressed you with fine linen and covered you with silk. ¹¹ "'I adorned you with ornaments, put bracelets on your hands and a necklace around your neck.'" ¹² And I put a ring on your nose, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. ¹³ »‘You were adorned with gold and silver. Your dress was of fine linen, silk and embroidered cloth. You ate fine flour, honey and oil; so you were exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty. ¹⁴ And your name went out among the nations, because of your beauty, for it was perfect by My splendor which I had set on you, declares the Sovereign LORD. ¹⁵ "'But you trusted your beauty. You used your fame to become a prostitute. You had sex with everyone who walked by. ¹⁶ "'You took some of your clothes and made your worship sites colorful. This is where you acted like a prostitute. Such things should not happen. They should not occur.

¹⁴ For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even to death.

¹⁸ And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare your strength to this generation, your power to all who are to come.

¹⁴ They will still bear fruit even in old age; they will be luxuriant and green.

²⁶ "They will perish, but you endure. All of them will wear out like a garment; like clothing you will renew them and they will be renewed. ²⁷ But you remain the same; your years never end.

⁴ "Who has done this and carried it through, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD have done this with the first of them and with the last. I am he!"

¹³ Yea, from this day I am He, and no one delivers from My hand. I will work, and who will reverse it?

²⁵ I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake; and I will not remember your sins.

¹⁶ "For I hate divorce," says the LORD, the God of Israel, "and he who covers his clothing with violence," says the LORD of hosts. "You must be attentive to your spirit and you must not be unfaithful."

⁶ For I, the LORD, do not change. Therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

²⁹ For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable.

¹² You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed; but You remain the same, and Your years will never end.”

⁸ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

¹⁷ Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.

¹¹ "Who is like you among the gods, LORD! Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in splendor, and working wonders!

⁸ Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; none are like Your works.

⁶ For who in the skies compares to the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the divine beings?

⁸ O LORD God of hosts, who is like You, O mighty the LORD? Your faithfulness also surrounds you.

⁵ Who is like the LORD our God, who is enthroned on high,

¹⁸ To whom, then, will you compare God? What image will you compare him to?

²⁵ "To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?" says the Holy One.

⁶ There is no one like you, O Lord; you are great and your name is great in power. ⁷ Who would not revere you, O king of the nations? For you it is fitting. For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like you.

¹⁶ The Portion of Jacob is not like them; for He is the Maker of all things; and Israel is the rod of His inheritance. the LORD Almighty is His name.

⁶ who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped,

¹⁵ He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

³ The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

² Aaron said to them, "Tear off the gold rings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters and bring them to me." ³ The people took off their gold earrings and handed them to Aaron. ⁴ And he took from their hand, and he shaped it with a tool, and he made it a cast-image bull calf, and they said, "These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt."

³ He returned the eleven hundred pieces of silver to his mother and she said, I solemnly dedicate my silver to the LORD for my son to make an engraved image and a molten image. Then I will give it back to you. ⁴ So he returned the money to his mother and she took two hundred pieces of it and gave them to the silversmith, who made it into an engraved image and a molten image, and they were put into Micah's house.

²⁸ And the king took counsel, and went, and made two golden heifers, and said to the people, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold, here are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

⁸ Their land is full of idols. They worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made.

¹⁹ As for an idol, a craftsman casts it, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and fashions silver chains for it. ²⁰ A man too poor to present such an offering selects wood that will not rot. He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol that will not topple.

¹² The blacksmith takes a tool and works with it in the coals. He shapes an idol with hammers; he forges it with the might of his arm. He gets hungry and loses his strength. He drinks no water and grows faint. ¹³ The carpenter measures with a line and makes an outline with a red chalk marker. He roughs it out with chisels and marks it with a compass. He shapes it in the form of man in all his glory, that it may dwell in a shrine. ¹⁴ He cut down cedars, or cypress or oak. He let it grow among the trees of the forest, or planted a pine, and the rain made it grow. ¹⁵ It is man's fuel for burning so he takes some to warm himself. He kindles a fire and bakes bread. But he also fashions a god and worships it. Yes he makes an idol and bows down to it. ¹⁶ He burns part of it in the fire. With part of it, he eats meat. He roasts a roast, and is satisfied. Yes, he warms himself and says, Ah! I am warm, I have seen the fire. ¹⁷ And the rest of it he makes into a god, his graven image; he falls down to it and worships, and prays to it, and says, Deliver me! for you are my god. ¹⁸ They know not, they understand not; for their eyes are daubed over, that they cannot see; their hearts, that they cannot understand. ¹⁹ No one stops to think. No one has enough knowledge or understanding to say: "I burned half of the wood in the fire. I also baked bread over its coals. I roasted meat and ate it. Now I am making the rest of the wood into a disgusting thing and bowing to a block of wood."

³ For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the ax. ⁴ They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails, that it not move.

⁹ Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz. It is the work of a craftsman and of the hands of a goldsmith. Violet and purple are their clothing. They are all the work of skilled men.

¹⁴ Everyone is stupid and without knowledge. Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, for his images are false. There is no life in them.

⁵ that whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up. ⁶ "Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into the midst of a blazing furnace." ⁷ Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. ⁸ Therefore at this time some astrologers came forward and they denounced the Jews. ⁹ They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live forever. ¹⁰ You, O king, have made a decree, that every man that hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image; ¹¹ Whoever does not fall down and worship shall be thrown into a blazing fire furnace.' ¹² There are men, Jews, whom you have set over the business of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, do not heed you. They do not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up. ¹³ Then ordered Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and ‘Abed-nego. Then were these men brought before the king. ¹⁴ Nebuchadnezzar said to them: "Is it true Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that you do not serve my god, nor worship the golden image that I set up? ¹⁵ "Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, zither, pipes, and all kinds of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, good! But if you do not worship it you will be thrown into the midst of a blazing furnace that same hour. What god will be able to rescue you from my hand?"

⁴ They appointed kings, but not through me; they made officials, but without my knowledge. With their silver and gold they made idols for themselves for their own destruction. ⁵ Your calf is rejected, O Samaria; my anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of innocence? ⁶ For from Israel it came also. The craftsman made it, but it is not God. For the calf of Samaria shall be splinters.

¹⁸ What does an image profit, for its maker has carved it; a molten image, and a teacher of lies? For does the maker trust in his work on it, to make dumb idols? ¹⁹ Woe to him who says to the wood, 'Wake up!' And to a lifeless stone, 'Arise!' Can he teach? Look, it is covered with gold and silver, and there is no breath within it. ²⁰ But the LORD is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him."

²⁹ "Being then the offspring of God, we should not think that the divine being is like gold, or silver, or stone, a device made by man's design or skill.

¹² the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites oppress you? And ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hands. ¹³ Yet you have forsaken me, and served other gods: why I will deliver you no more. ¹⁴ "Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen! Let them save you in your time of trouble."

²⁶ So they took the ox that was given to them, prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from early morning until noon. "Baal! Answer us!" they cried. But there was no response. Nobody answered. So they kept on dancing around the altar that they had made.

⁴⁰ Then Elijah said to them, "Seize the prophets of Baal; don't let any man of them escape!" So they seized them, and Elijah brought them down to the wadi of Kishon and killed them there.

³⁸ One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer cut him down with the sword. They escaped to the land of Ararat. Esarhaddon his son succeeded him as king.

²⁸ "Where are the gods that you made for yourselves? Let them come and rescue you when you have trouble. You have as many gods as you have cities, Judah!

¹ King Nabuchodonosor made a statue of gold, of sixty cubits high, and six cubits broad, and he set it up in the plain of Dura, of the province of Babylon.

¹⁴ At last they cried out to the LORD, "Please, LORD, do not let us perish because of this man's life, and do not hold us responsible for innocent blood, because you, LORD, have done what pleased you." ¹⁵ So they took up Jonah, and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased its raging. ¹⁶ Then the men feared the LORD greatly, offered a sacrifice to the LORD, and made vows.

²⁹ If only they were wise, they would understand this; they would discern for themselves their end.

And he cannot save himself, and he cannot say, "Is this not an illusion in my right hand?" ²¹ Remember these things, O Jacob and Israel, for you are my servant. I have formed you. You are my servant, O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.

⁷ "'You said: 'I will be a queen for a very long time!' You did not consider these things or remember their outcome.

⁸ But they are one and all senseless and foolish; the teaching of vanities is a stock.

²⁸ Because he considers and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he will surely live. He will not die.

⁵ For this cause the Lord of armies has said, Give thought to your ways.

¹⁷ "Then he came to his senses and said, 'How many of my father's hired men have more food than they can eat, and here I am starving to death!

²⁰ Brothers, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.

¹⁴ for the light is making everything visible. That is why it says, "Wake up, O sleeper! Arise from the dead, and the Messiah will shine on you.''

⁷ Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.

²⁶ There is none like the God of Jeshurun, who rides on the heaven to your help, and in His majesty on the clouds.

⁷ You are the LORD, the God who chose Abram and brought him from Ur of the Chaldeans and named him Abraham. ⁸ and foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give unto his seed the land of the Cananites, Hittites, Amorites, Perezites, Jebusites, and Girgashites - and hast made good thy words: for thou art righteous, ⁹ You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heard their cry by the Red Sea. ¹⁰ and showed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, and against all his servants, and against all the people of his land; for you knew that they dealt proudly against them, and made a name for yourself, as it is this day. ¹¹ And you divided the sea before them, and they passed through the sea on dry ground, but their pursuers you threw into the depths like a stone into mighty waters. ¹² and you led them by day by a pillar of cloud; and by night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein to go: ¹³ "You came down also on Mount Sinai, and spoke with them from heaven, and gave them right ordinances and true laws, good statutes and commandments, ¹⁴ and made known to them your holy Sabbath, and commanded them commandments, statutes, and a law, by Moses your servant, ¹⁵ and gave them bread from the heavens for their famine; and brought them water from the rock for their thirst; and said to them to go in to possess the land which you lifted your hand to give them. ¹⁶ "But they our ancestors became arrogant and stubborn, refusing to listen to your commands. ¹⁷ They refused to listen and did not remember your wonders that you did among them. They stiffened their neck and in their rebellion determined to return to their slavery. But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abundant in loyal love, so you did not abandon them. ¹⁸ Yes, when they had made themselves a molded calf, and said, 'This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,' and had committed awful blasphemies; ¹⁹ Even then, in your great mercy, you did not give them up in the waste land: the pillar of cloud still went before them by day, guiding them on their way, and the pillar of fire by night, to give them light, and make clear the way they were to go. ²⁰ You gave also your good Spirit to instruct them, and did not withhold your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst. ²¹ Yea, forty years You sustained them in the wilderness. They lacked nothing; their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell. ²² And you gave them kingdoms and nations and allotted them a portion. They took into possession the land of Sihon king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan. ²³ You made their children numerous like the stars of the heavens and brought them to the land that you told their ancestors to enter in order to take possession. ²⁴ So the children went in and took possession of the land. You subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites; you gave them into their hand, and their kings and the nations of the land to do with them according to their pleasure. ²⁵ They conquered fortified cities and fertile ground, possessing houses filled with all kinds of good things, wells already dug, with vineyards, olive orchards, and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate, were satiated, and were well nourished, delighting themselves in your great goodness. ²⁶ "Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against you, and cast your law behind their back, and killed your prophets that testified against them to turn them again to you, and they committed awful blasphemies. ²⁷ So you delivered them into the control of their enemies, who oppressed them. But when they were oppressed, they cried out to you, and you heard from heaven. In your great compassion you gave them deliverers who rescued them from the control of their enemies. ²⁸ But after they had rest, they again did evil before you. Therefore you left them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them. Yet when they returned and cried to you, you heard from heaven and many times you delivered them according to your mercies, ²⁹ You admonished them to return to your law, but they acted arrogantly, and would not listen to your commands. They sinned against your regulations, which if anyone obeys, he will live by them. They turned away, being stubborn and stiff-necked, and they did not listen. ³⁰ You were patient with them for many years, warning them by your Spirit through your prophets. But they would not listen, so you turned them over to the control of people in other lands. ³¹ But for Your great mercies, You did not consume nor forsake them; for You are a gracious and merciful God. ³² "Now therefore, our God, the great, mighty, and awesome God, who keeps the covenant and gracious love, don't let all of the difficulties seem trifling to you, all of hardships that have come upon us, upon our kings, upon our leaders, upon our priests, upon our prophets, upon our ancestors, and upon all of your people from the time of the kings of Assyria until this day. ³³ You are righteous in all that is happening to us, because you have acted faithfully while we have practiced evil. ³⁴ Our kings, our officials, our priests, and our ancestors did not keep your law and did not listen to your commandments and statutes that you declared to them. ³⁵ And in their kingdom and in the greatness you gave to them, and in the wide and fertile land that you gave before them, they did not serve you and did not turn from their evil deeds. ³⁶ Behold, we are slaves today, even the land that You gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its good, behold, we are slaves in it. ³⁷ But now its abundant produce belongs to the kings whom you placed over us because of our sin. They also have power over our bodies and our herds at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

¹ A maskil of Asaph. Listen, O my people, to my teaching. Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. ² I will open my mouth in parables. I will utter dark sayings of old, ³ That we have heard and known and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children, telling the next generation the praises of the LORD, and his power and his wonders that he has done. ⁵ He established a decree in Jacob, and established the Law in Israel, that he commanded our ancestors to reveal to their children ⁶ so that the next generation might know— children yet to be born— that they might rise up and tell their children, ⁷ that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God's deeds, but keep his commandments, ⁸ They should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not prepare its heart and whose spirit was not faithful to God. ⁹ The sons of Ephraim, armed with archers, turned back on the day of battle. ¹⁰ They did not keep God's covenant, and refused to live by his Law. ¹¹ They forgot what he had done, and the wonderful works that he had showed for them. ¹² He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. ¹³ He divided the sea, and led them through; He made the waters to stand as in a bottle. ¹⁴ He led them with the cloud by day and with a light of fire by night. ¹⁵ He split the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. ¹⁶ And he brought streams out of the rock and caused water to flow down like rivers. ¹⁷ Yet they still continued to sin against him. They rebelled against the Most High in the desert. ¹⁸ And they tried God in their heart by asking food for their craving. ¹⁹ Nay, they spoke against God and said, "Can God provide a table in a desert? ²⁰ Yes, he struck the rock and water flowed and streams gushed out, but can he also give food or provide meat for his people?" ²¹ Therefore the LORD heard and he was very angry, and a fire was kindled against Jacob, and his anger also rose up against Israel, ²² because they didn't believe in God and didn't trust in his deliverance. ²³ Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven. ²⁴ and rained down on them manna to eat and gave them the grain of heaven. ²⁵ Man ate the bread of angels. He sent them food to the full. ²⁶ He made an east wind blow in the heavens; and He led out the south wind by His power. ²⁷ He caused meat to rain on them like dust and winged birds as the sand of the sea. ²⁸ And He made them fall amidst their camp, all around to their tents. ²⁹ So they did eat, and were well filled; and He gave them that which they craved. ³⁰ But they were not turned from their desires; and while the food was still in their mouths, ³¹ The wrath of God came on them, and put to death the fattest of them, and put an end to the young men of Israel. ³² In spite of all of this, they kept on sinning and didn't believe in his marvelous deeds. ³³ And he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror. ³⁴ When he slew them, they sought him, and turned them early, and inquired after God. ³⁵ They remembered that God was their rock, that the Most High was their defender. ³⁶ But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue. ³⁷ Their hearts were not loyal to him. They were not faithful to his promise. ³⁸ But he, being merciful, forgave their iniquity and didn't destroy them; He restrained his anger and didn't vent all his wrath. ³⁹ for he remembered that they were flesh, a passing wind that does not return. ⁴⁰ How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and vexed him in the wasteland! ⁴¹ Again they put God to the test, and gave pain to the Holy One of Israel. ⁴² They did not remember his power and the day he freed them from their oppressor, ⁴³ when he performed his miraculous signs in Egypt, his wonders in the fields of Zoan. ⁴⁴ when he turned their rivers to blood so they could not drink from their streams. ⁴⁵ He sent among them flies that devoured them and frogs that destroyed them. ⁴⁶ He gave their crops to grasshoppers and their produce to locusts. ⁴⁷ He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees with sleet. ⁴⁸ He gave up their cattle to the hail, and their flocks to bolts of fire. ⁴⁹ He sent against them his fierce anger, rage and indignation and trouble, a band of destroying angels. ⁵⁰ He cleared a path for his anger. He did not spare them from death but handed their life over to the plague. ⁵¹ And he struck all the first-born in Egypt, the firstfruits of strength in the tents of Ham; ⁵² and brought out his people like sheep, and led them like a flock in the desert, ⁵³ He led them safely, so that they weren't afraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies. ⁵⁴ He brought them to the border of his sanctuary, to this mountain, which his right hand had taken. ⁵⁵ He drove out nations before them and allotted their tribal inheritance, settling the tribes of Israel in their tents. ⁵⁶ But they tested and rebelled against God Most High and did not keep his statutes. ⁵⁷ They fell away and were as disloyal as their ancestors. They became unreliable, like a defective bow; ⁵⁸ And so they grieved him with their high places, and provoked him with their images. ⁵⁹ God heard and he was very angry and rejected Israel utterly. ⁶⁰ And He leaveth the tabernacle of Shiloh, The tent He had placed among men, ⁶¹ And he gave his strength into captivity and his splendor into the hand of the enemy. ⁶² He also gave his people over to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance. ⁶³ Fire devoured their young men; and their maidens had no marriage–song ⁶⁴ Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep. ⁶⁵ Then the LORD awoke as from sleep, Like a master jubilant from wine." ⁶⁶ And he beat back his enemies; he gave them over to perpetual scorn. ⁶⁷ He rejected the tent of Joseph. He did not choose the tribe of Ephraim, ⁶⁸ But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved. ⁶⁹ And he built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that he established forever. ⁷⁰ He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds; ⁷¹ From following the suckling-ewes, he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² David shepherded them with a devoted heart, and led them with skillful hands.

¹ O give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name. Make known among the peoples his practices. ² Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; talk of all His wonderful works. ³ Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice. ⁴ Seek ye the LORD and his strength: seek his face always. ⁵ Remember His wonders that He has done, His miracles, and the judgments of His mouth, ⁶ O seed of Abraham, His servant, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones. ⁷ He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. ⁸ He remembered his covenant forever, the word he commanded to a thousand generations. ⁹ Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac; ¹⁰ He presented it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant. ¹¹ saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the portion of your inheritance; ¹² When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it. ¹³ they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. ¹⁴ He suffered no man to do them wrong, yea, for their sake He reproved kings: ¹⁵ "Do not touch my anointed ones. Do my prophets no harm." ¹⁶ He called for a famine on the land, He destroyed the piles of food. ¹⁷ He sent a man before them. Joseph was sold for a slave. ¹⁸ They bruised his feet with shackles. His neck was locked in irons, ¹⁹ until his word came to pass; till the oracle of the Lord tried him. ²⁰ The king sent and released him, even the ruler of peoples, and let him go free. ²¹ He made him master of his house, and ruler of all his possession. ²² To bind his princes at his pleasure, and teach his elders wisdom. ²³ Then Israel came to Egypt. Jacob lived as a foreigner in the land of Ham. ²⁴ And he made his people very fruitful. He also made them stronger than their enemies. ²⁵ He turned their heart to hate his people, to conspire against his servants. ²⁶ He sent Moses, his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. ²⁷ They performed his signs among them, his wonders in the land of Ham. ²⁸ He sent darkness, and made it dark. And they rebelled against his words. ²⁹ He turned their waters into blood, and caused their fish to die. ³⁰ Their land swarmed with frogs, even in the rooms of their kings. ³¹ He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and gnats in all their country. ³² He turned their rain into hail, into flaming fire in their land. ³³ And he struck their vines and fig trees, and shattered the trees of their territory. ³⁴ He spoke, and the locusts came, and the grasshoppers, without number, ³⁵ They consumed every green plant in their land, and devoured the fruit of their soil. ³⁶ He struck also all the firstborn in their land, the first fruits of all their manhood. ³⁷ He brought Israel out with silver and gold, and no one among his tribes stumbled. ³⁸ Egypt was glad when they departed, because the fear of them had fallen upon them. ³⁹ He spread out a cloud as a covering, And fire, to give light by night, ⁴⁰ They asked, and he brought quail, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. ⁴¹ He opened a rock, and water gushed out flowing like a river in the desert. ⁴² For He remembered His holy word and His servant Abraham; ⁴³ He brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with a song of joy. ⁴⁴ He gave them the lands of other nations. They inherited what others had worked for. ⁴⁵ that they might keep his statutes, and observe his laws. Praise the LORD.

⁴ He has made his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate.

⁹ Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

⁵ I am the LORD, and there is no other. Besides me, there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not known me; ⁶ So that they know from the rising of the sun, And from the west, that there is none besides Me, I am the LORD, and there is none else,

¹⁴ This is what the LORD says: "The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush, and those tall Sabeans will come over to you and will be yours. They will walk behind you. They will come to you in chains. They will bow down before you and plead with you. They will say: 'God is with you and there is no other. There is no other god!'

¹⁸ the LORD says: "Who created the heavens? He who is God. He fashioned and made the earth. He founded it and he did not create it to be empty but formed it to be inhabited." He says: "I am the LORD, and there is no other.

²¹ Declare and bring near; yea, let them consult together. Who has revealed this of old; who has told it from then? Is it not I, the LORD? And there is no God other than Me; a just God and a Savior; there is none except Me. ²² Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.

⁵ "To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?

¹⁷ For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth and the former things will not be remembered, nor come into mind.

⁷ "Therefore, the time is coming," declares the LORD, "when people will no longer say, 'As surely as the LORD lives who brought up the Israelites from the land of Egypt,' ⁸ but they'll say, 'As surely as the LORD lives who brought the descendants of the Israelites from the land of the north and from all the lands where I had driven them and brought them into the land.' Then they'll live in their own land."

⁶ "We have not listened to your servants the prophets who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. ⁷ O Lord, righteousness is yours, but shame is on us, even to this day; and on the men of Judah and the people of Jerusalem, and on all Israel, those who are near and those who are far off, in all the countries where you have sent them because of the sin which they have done against you. ⁸ "O LORD, to us belongs shame, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you. ⁹ To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; ¹⁰ and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God by walking in his laws that he gave us through his servants the prophets. ¹¹ "And all Israel transgressed your law and turned aside so as not to listen to your voice, and so the curse and the oath which was written in the law of Moses, the servant of God, has been poured out upon us, because we have sinned against him. ¹² He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us, and against our rulers who ruled us, by bringing on us a great calamity; for under the whole heaven such has not been done as has been done on Jerusalem. ¹³ As it's written in the Law of Moses, all this calamity has befallen us, but we still haven't sought the LORD our God by turning from our lawlessness to pay attention to your truth. ¹⁴ So the LORD watched for the right time to bring the calamity upon us, because the LORD our God is righteous regarding everything he does, but we have not obeyed his voice. ¹⁵ And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and made for Yourself a name, as it is this day; we have sinned; we have done evilly.

¹⁵ And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed. He will bruise your head and you will bruise his heel.

² "I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing. ³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

¹⁰ The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. To him will the obedience of the peoples be.

²² "Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine by a spring. His branches run over the wall. ²³ The archers have fiercely attacked him, and shot at him, and hated him: ²⁴ »His bow stayed steady! His arms remained limber because of the help of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the name of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel, ²⁵ even by the God of your father, who will help you, by the Almighty, who will bless you, with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb. ²⁶ »The blessings of your father are greater than the blessings of the oldest mountains and the riches of the ancient hills. May these blessings rest on the head of Joseph, on the crown of the prince among his brothers.

¹⁷ I see him, but not now. I see him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob. A scepter will rise out of Israel, and shall strike through the corners of Moab, and crush all the sons of Sheth. ¹⁸ Edom will be a captive; Seir, its enemies, will be a captive, and Israel will be acting courageously. ¹⁹ One from Jacob shall hold sway, and will destroy the survivors of the city. ²⁰ And he looked at Amalek, uttered his oracle, and said, "Amalek is first of the nations, but his future will be forever ruin." ²¹ He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable and said, Your dwelling place is strong, your nest is set in the rock. ²² But still the Kenites will be wasted, till Asshur takes you away prisoner. ²³ And he took up his oracle, and said, Alas, who shall live when God does this! ²⁴ "Ships will come from the coast of Kittim. They will afflict Asshur and will afflict Eber. They will also come to destruction."

²⁴ For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. ²⁵ "When you have had children and grandchildren and you have grown old in the land and you act corruptly and you make a divine image of the form of anything and you do evil in the eyes of the LORD your God, thus provoking him to anger, ²⁶ I call Heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land which you are crossing over Jordan to possess. You shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed. ²⁷ The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the nations, where the LORD will drive you. ²⁸ There you will serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell. ²⁹ But if from there you shall seek the LORD your God, you shall find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. ³⁰ "When you are in trouble (distress) and all these things happen to you in the latter days, turn to the LORD your God and obey his voice. ³¹ For the LORD your God is a merciful God. He will not fail you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which he swore to them.

¹⁵ "But if you don't obey the LORD your God and faithfully carry out all his commands and statutes that I'm giving you today, then all these curses will come upon you and overwhelm you. ¹⁶ You shall be cursed in the city, and cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed. ¹⁸ "The fruit of your womb shall be cursed and the fruit of you ground, the calves of your cattle and the lambs of your flock. ¹⁹ You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out. ²⁰ the LORD will send on you cursing, confusion and rebuke in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your doings by which you have forsaken Him. ²¹ The LORD will cause you to be ill with long-lasting diseases until you are wiped out from the land that you are entering to possess. ²² the LORD shall smite you with attenuation, with fever and inflammation, with hot heat and drought, with blasting and mildew, and they will pursue you until you perish. ²³ The sky above your head will become bronze while the ground beneath you will become iron. ²⁴ the LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust. It will come down on you from the sky, until you are destroyed. ²⁵ "the LORD will cause you to be stricken before your enemies. You will go out one way against them, and flee seven ways from them. You will be an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ Your bodies will be meat for all the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth; there will be no one to send them away. ²⁷ the LORD will strike you with the boil of Egypt and with the tumours, the scurvy and the itch, from which you cannot be healed. ²⁸ The LORD shall strike you with madness, and blindness, and confusion of mind: ²⁹ and you will grope at noonday, as the blind man gropes in darkness. And you will not prosper in your ways. And you will only be oppressed and robbed always and there will be none to save you. ³⁰ You'll be engaged to a woman, but another man will rape her. You'll build a house but you won't live in it. You'll plant a vineyard but you won't harvest it. ³¹ Your ox will be slain before your eyes and you will not eat of it. Your donkey will be violently taken away from before your face and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies and you will have none to save you. ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to other people, and you will be looking on longingly for them all day, but you will be powerless to do anything. ³³ A people whom you don't know will devour what your land and labor produces. You'll be only oppressed and discouraged continually ³⁴ so that the sights that you see with your eyes will drive you mad. ³⁵ The LORD shall strike you in the knees, and in the legs, with painful boils that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot unto the top of your head. ³⁶ "the LORD will bring you and your king, whom you set over you, to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods made of wood and stone. ³⁷ And you will become a wonder and a name of shame among all the nations where the Lord will take you. ³⁸ You shall carry much seed out to the field, and you shall gather in little; for the locusts will devour it. ³⁹ You will plant vineyards and dress them, but you will neither drink of the wine, nor harvest, because worms will eat them. ⁴⁰ You will have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you won't anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives will drop off. ⁴¹ You will beget sons and daughters, but they will not be your, for they will go into captivity. ⁴² »Locusts will take over all your trees and the fruit of your land. ⁴³ The foreigner who is among you will mount up above you higher and higher, and you will come down lower and lower. ⁴⁴ He will lend to you and you will not lend to him. He will be the head and you will be the tail. ⁴⁵ All these curses will come on you, and will pursue you and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you didn't listen to the LORD your God's voice, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you. ⁴⁶ They will be for a sign and for a wonder to you and to your offspring forever. ⁴⁷ "Because you didn't serve the LORD your God joyfully and wholeheartedly, despite the abundance of everything you have, ⁴⁸ therefore you will serve your enemies whom Yahweh sends against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in lack of all things. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you. ⁴⁹ "the LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, as the eagle swoops down, a nation whose language you will not understand, ⁵⁰ A hard-faced nation, who will have no respect for the old or mercy for the young: ⁵¹ And it shall consume the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground until you are destroyed, and who will not leave for you any grain, wine, and olive oil, calves of your herds, and lambs of your flock until it has destroyed you. ⁵² "They will blockade all your cities until the high, fortified walls you trust come down everywhere in your land. They will blockade all the cities everywhere in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. ⁵³ "Because of the hardships your enemies will make you suffer during the blockade, you will eat the flesh of your own children, the sons and daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you. ⁵⁴ "The kindest and most sensitive man among you will become stingy toward his brother, the wife he loves, and the children he still has left. ⁵⁵ »He will give none of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all that he has left. These are hardships your enemies will make you suffer during the blockade of all your cities. ⁵⁶ "The kindest and most sensitive woman among you, so sensitive and tender that she would not even step on an ant, will become stingy toward the husband she loves or toward her own son or daughter. ⁵⁷ She will eat her afterbirth and her newborn children secretly since there will be nothing left on account of the siege and distress with which your enemy will oppress you in your cities." ⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, the LORD your God, ⁵⁹ then he will inflict extraordinary plagues on you and your children, great and lasting plagues, and severe and lasting illnesses. ⁶⁰ "He will bring all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded. They will cling to you. ⁶¹ "the LORD will also bring you every kind of sickness and plague not written in this Book of the Law. They will continue until you are dead. ⁶² "You were at one time as numerous as the stars in the sky. But only a few of you will be left. This is because you did not obey the LORD your God. ⁶³ Just as the LORD delighted to prosper and increase you, so now the LORD will delight to destroy, exterminate, and banish you from the land that you are about to enter to possess." ⁶⁴ "He'll scatter you among the peoples from one end of the earth to the other, and there you'll serve other gods made of wood and stones, which neither you nor your ancestors have known. ⁶⁵ Among those nations you'll have no rest. There'll be no resting place for the soles of your feet. Instead, the LORD will give you an anxious heart, failing eyesight, and a despairing spirit. ⁶⁶ You'll cling to life, being fearful by both night and day, with no assurance of survival. ⁶⁷ In the morning you will say, If only it was evening! And at evening you will say, If only morning would come! Because of the fear in your hearts and the things which your eyes will see. ⁶⁸ Finally, the LORD will bring you back to Egypt by ship, a place that I said you'll never see again. There you'll try to sell yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you."

¹¹ The counsel of the LORD stands fast forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

⁶ The LORD does whatever pleases him in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all its deep regions.

²¹ There are many plans in a man's heart, but the LORD's counsel will prevail.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

²² "Bring in your idols to tell us what is going to happen. Tell us what the former things were, so that we may consider them and know their final outcome. Or declare to us the things to come. ²³ "Tell us what the future holds, so we may know that you are gods. Do something, whether good or bad, so that we will be shocked and filled with fear.

⁷ "'Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people, and what is yet to come yes, let him foretell what will come.

²¹ Declare and bring near; yea, let them consult together. Who has revealed this of old; who has told it from then? Is it not I, the LORD? And there is no God other than Me; a just God and a Savior; there is none except Me.

¹¹ I summon a bird of prey from the east. I summon a man to fulfill my purpose from a far off land. What I have said I will bring about. What I have determined (purposed) I will do.

³⁵ And all the people of the earth are as nothing: he does his pleasure in the army of heaven and among the people of the earth: and no one is able to keep back his hand, or say to him, What are you doing?

²³ Everyone who does not heed His words will be completely cut off from among the people.’

²⁷ For in truth both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed, ²⁸ They carried out what Your hand and purpose had decided beforehand would happen.

³⁹ But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God.”

¹⁸ that have been known for ages.’

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable his judgments, and his ways past finding out! ³⁴ Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counsellor?

⁹ he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, ¹⁰ as a plan for the fullness of time, to bring all things in heaven and on earth together in Christ. ¹¹ In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will,

¹⁷ So when God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath.

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of humankind, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? And has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

² "Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, 'The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he has commanded me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

¹³ "But he is One who can change him? He does whatever he wants to do.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man praises you. The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

²⁴ Yea, Thy testimonies are my delight, they are my counsellors.

² Raise a signal on a bare hill, lift up your voice to them; wave the hand and may they enter the gateways of the noblemen. ³ I have commanded My holy ones; I have also called My warriors for My anger, those who rejoice in My highness. ⁴ A sound, a noise is on the mountains, the likeness of many people! A sound of the roar of the kingdoms, of nations gathering! the LORD Almighty is mustering an army for battle.

²⁴ the LORD Almighty has sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so it shall come to pass; and as I have purposed, it shall stand; ²⁵ To break Assur in my land, and upon my mountain I will tread him down: and his yoke was removed from off them, and his burden shall remove from off their shoulder. ²⁶ This is the plan that is determined for the whole earth. This is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations. ²⁷ For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who shall reverse it? And His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

⁷ When he sees chariots, horsemen in pairs, riders on donkeys, riders on camels, let him listen diligently, very diligently." ⁸ Then the lookout shouted: "Lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and every night I stay at my post. ⁹ "Look! Here come chariots and horsemen in pairs. Then he said: 'Babylon has fallen! She has fallen! All the idols they worship lie shattered on the ground.'"

¹⁵ What can I say? For he has spoken to me, and he himself has done it. I will walk slowly all my years because of the bitterness of my soul.

² "Who has stirred up one from the east, calling him in righteousness to his service? He hands nations over to him and subdues kings before him. He turns them to dust with his sword, to windblown chaff with his bow.

²⁵ "I have stirred up one from the north, and he comes! One from the rising sun calls on my name. He treads on rulers as if they were mortar, as if he were a potter treading the clay.

²⁸ "'I say of Cyrus: 'He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please. He will say of Jerusalem, 'Let it be rebuilt,' and of the Temple, 'Let its foundations be laid.'"

¹³ I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will make all his ways straight. He shall build my city, and he shall let my exiles go free, not for price nor reward,” says the LORD of Armies.

¹⁴ "Gather together, all of you, and listen. What idol has revealed such things? the LORD loves Cyrus. He will carry out the LORD's plan against Babylon. He will use his strength against the Babylonians. ¹⁵ I, even I, have spoken, yes, I have called him. I have brought him and he will make his way prosperous.

²⁹ "Summon many to Babylon, all those who bend the bow. Camp all around her, let no one escape. Repay her according to her deeds. Do to her just as she has done. For she has behaved arrogantly against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.

⁴⁵ Listen to what the LORD is going to do against Babylon and the things he intends to do to the land of the Babylonians. He will surely drag away the little ones of the flock. He will surely destroy the pasture because of the Babylonians.

²⁰ You are My war club and weapons of war, for with you I will shatter nations and with you I will destroy kingdoms. ²¹ and with you, I shatter the horse and his rider; and with you, I shatter the chariot and his rider; ²² and with you, I shatter man and woman; and with you, I shatter aged and lad; and with you, I shatter the youth and the virgin; ²³ I'll smash the shepherd and his flock with you. I'll smash the farmer and his team of oxen with you. I'll smash governors and officials with you. ²⁴ "Before your eyes I'll repay Babylon and all the inhabitants of Chaldea for all the evil that they did in Zion," declares the LORD. ²⁵ "Look, I'm against you, destroying mountain, who destroys the whole earth," declares the LORD. "I'll stretch out my hand against you and roll you down from the crags. And I'll make you a burned-out mountain. ²⁶ And they will not take from you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations, but you will be desolate forever, says the LORD. ²⁷ Set ye up a standard in the land. Blow the trumpet among the nations. Prepare the nations against her. Call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a marshal against her. Cause the horses to come u ²⁸ Prepare the nations for holy war against her, the kings of the Medes, with their governors and all their officials, and every land of their dominion. ²⁹ The land quakes and writhes because the LORD's purposes against Babylon stand firm, to make the land of Babylon a waste without inhabitants.

⁴ On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all of your troops, and the peoples who are with you, to birds of prey, birds of every wing, and animals of the field I will give you as food.

²⁸ They carried out what Your hand and purpose had decided beforehand would happen.

¹¹ In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will,

¹¹ according to the eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹ {To the chief Musician. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.} Hear this, all ye peoples; give ear, all inhabitants of the world:

⁵ Valiant men lie plundered, they have slept their last sleep. None of the men of war can lift their hands.

¹⁵⁰ Those who pursue a wicked purpose draw near; they are far from your law.

¹⁵⁵ Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek your statutes.

²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ May you turn to my argument! Behold, I shall pour out my spirit upon you; I will make my words known to you.

¹ Doesn’t wisdom cry out? Doesn’t understanding raise her voice? ² On the top of high places by the way, where the paths meet, she stands. ³ Beside the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entry doors, she cries aloud: ⁴ "To you men, I call. I send my voice to the sons of mankind. ⁵ You simple, understand prudence! You fools, be of an understanding heart!

²³ Listen and hear My voice; pay attention and hear My word:

³ "Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel. I have upheld you since you were conceived. I have carried you since your birth.

⁴ I know that you are stubborn, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your forehead bronze.

⁵ the LORD says: "What bad thing (injustice) did your fathers find in me that they went so far away from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless (lead astray) themselves.

¹¹ But they refused to pay attention, turned their backs, and stopped listening. ¹² "They made their hearts hard like flint and would not listen to the law, and the words that the LORD Almighty sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Great anger came from the LORD Almighty!"

¹³ "You have spoken arrogant words against me," says the LORD. "Yet you ask, 'What did we say against you?' ¹⁴ You have said, 'It is useless to serve God! What is the gain if we keep his requirements, and if we walk as mourners before the LORD of hosts? ¹⁵ Now we call the proud blessed; indeed, evildoers prosper. They even tempt God and escape.'

⁵¹ You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit, just as your fathers did.

¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

¹⁷ You say, ‘I am rich; I have grown wealthy and need nothing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. ¹⁸ I advise you to buy of me gold that has been refined in the fire, so that you may become rich, and white clothes to put on, to hide your shameful nakedness, and salve to put on your eyes, to make you see.

⁷ Oh that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion. When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, may Jacob rejoice, may Israel be glad.

¹ For the Chief Musician. By the sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

⁵ God is within her. She shall not be moved. God will help her at dawn.

² "Truly God is my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid. the LORD… the LORD is my strength and my song! He has become my salvation."

¹⁶ Therefore the Sovereign LORD says this: "Look! I am laying a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a founded foundation: 'The one who trusts will not panic.'

⁷ "'Bring everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.'

²³ Sing, you heavens, for the LORD has done it. Shout, you lower parts of the earth. Break out into singing, you mountains, O forest, all of your trees, for the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and will glorify himself in Israel.

⁵ "My righteousness is near. My salvation is on the way and my arm (power) will bring justice to the nations. The islands will look to me and wait in hope for my arm (power).

²¹ "Then all your people will be righteous and they will possess the land everlastingly. They will be the seedlings I have planted, the honored work of my hands.

³ to give for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, to show his glory.

¹¹ For as the earth comes out with its bud, and as the garden causes that which is sown to grow; so the Sovereign LORD will cause righteousness and praise to grow before all the nations.

¹¹ Look, the LORD has proclaimed to the end of the earth, "Say to the daughter of Zion, 'Look, your salvation comes. Look, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.'"

⁹ "Jerusalem will be my source of joy, praise, and honor. All the nations on earth will hear about all the blessings that I will give to Jerusalem. They will be afraid and tremble because of all the prosperity that I will provide for it.'"

¹⁷ "And truly you will know that I am the LORD your God, dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain. Then Jerusalem will be holy, and no foreigners will invade her again.

³ For the vision is still for an appointed time, but it speaks to the end, and it does not lie. Though it lingers, wait for it; because it will surely come. It will not tarry.

⁸ Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house: that I may take pleasure in it, and be glorified, saith the Lord.

¹⁰ All I have is Yours, and all You have is Mine; and in them I have been glorified.

¹⁷ For in the gospel God's righteousness is being revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, "The righteous will live by faith."

²¹ But now the righteousness of God apart from the law has been revealed, being witnessed to by the Law and the Prophets, ²² And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction, ²³ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ²⁴ and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, ²⁵ God presented Him as an atoning sacrifice through faith in His blood, in order to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance He had passed over the sins committed beforehand. ²⁶ He did this to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and to justify the one who has faith in Jesus.

³ For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. ⁴ For Christ is the end of the law, so that there may be righteousness for every one who believes. ⁵ For Moses describeth the righteousness which is by the law, The man who doth these things shall live by them. ⁶ But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down) ⁷ Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.) ⁸ But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: ⁹ that if you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰ For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved. ¹¹ For the Scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame." ¹² For there is no difference between Jew and Greek: The same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on Him, ¹³ for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” ¹⁴ How then can they call on the One they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? ¹⁵ And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

⁶ to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One.

¹⁰ on the day He comes to be glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have believed, including you who have believed our testimony.

¹² To the end that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you and you in him, according to the grace of our God, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

³⁷ For in a very little while, “He who is coming will come and will not delay.

⁶ For it stands in Scripture: “See, I lay in Zion a stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone; and the one who believes in Him will never be put to shame.”
