³ For the protection by Pharaoh will be to you for shame, and the ones relying upon Egypt for scorn.

⁵ "Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be afraid and put to shame.

¹⁶ The makers of idols will be put to shame and disgraced. They will go off into disgrace together. ¹⁷ the LORD will save Israel with an everlasting salvation. You will never be put to shame or disgraced, to ages everlasting.

⁵ This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the person who trusts in mankind, who makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the LORD. ⁶ And he will be like a juniper in the wilderness, and he will not see when good comes, and he will dwell in the parched places in the desert, in a land of salt flats, where no one lives.

⁵ Pharaoh's army had come out of Egypt, and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard the report about them, they withdrew from Jerusalem. ⁶ Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet: ⁷ "This is what the LORD the God of Israel says: 'Say this to the king of Judah, who sent you to get advice from me: "Pharaoh's army has come out to help you. But it will go back to Egypt, its own land. ⁸ "Then the Babylonians will return. They will attack the city, capture it, and burn it down." ⁹ This is what the LORD says: "Don't deceive yourselves by saying, 'The Chaldeans will surely go away from us,' for they won't go. ¹⁰ "Even if you would defeat the entire Babylonian army so that they had only a few badly wounded men left in their tents, they would get up and burn down this city!"’"

⁵ And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.

¹¹ For the Scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame."
